Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Fragolina · 02/01/2008 15:25

Nice to have you back on mixedmama, hope the tens machine gets things going for you. Congrats to Beller - dying to hear all the details.

Naetha, I can so sympathise with the boredom and discomfort. I tihnk I've found myself a little solution though, I got Dh to treat me to some posh shower stuff, so I seem to spend ages in the shower every day, with gorgeous smelling soaps, then takes just as long to put cream on everywhere afterwards (seeing as my surface area has tripled lately!), then I might have a face mask/tidy eyebrows or file nails....and before I know it most of the afternoon has gone by and I'm feeling pretty chilled out, and a little spoiled and pampered, for not a lot of money.

Does seem quite a while between midwife appointments for you Naetha - not sure what to suggest. Is seeing a hospital midwice an option?

I think we're finally getting somewhere with baby names ...well nothing's decided yet, but we have managed to come up with a few more alternatives.

mixedmama · 02/01/2008 15:27

Naetha - I went cinema by myself last time round for the first time in my life and quite enjoyed it. I have had so many clary sage baths that I guess he will just arrive when he arrives. even been having daily sex, which tbh is becoming quite diffcult. Had MW just now and baby is not even engaged altho she said maybe as it is my second, may not engage until labour. Have a sweep booked for next Tuesday so suppose I just have to keep waiting.

madmouse · 02/01/2008 15:34

Hi all

MM good to see you , sorry you are still waiting, here's hoping it will be soon. Thanks for letting us know Babybel has arrived. Can't wait to hear from Beller.

Naetha you are feeling fed up and that you cannot get appointments when you need them most. Whinge on, I bet we all will have more and more to whinge about except the lucky ones who have had their babies.

Sabinar, you go! Are your contracting regularly now?

Am feeling excited , mw has just been for the home birth appointment and all is well and ready to roll. BP/urine ok and baby has started to engage (still 4/5 palpable, but at 36 weeks that is respectable!) so I have now forgiven him for all the pelvic pains and pressure he is producing. One more week and then they will be on call for my home birth, eeek. We talked baths and plastic sheets and all sorts. Now we just need to make a trip to B&Q for some sheeting.

LuckySalem · 02/01/2008 16:09

Hey all,

Congratulations Beller - can't wait to hear the details.
Sabinar & Lillyloo - Good luck, hope all goes well for you me dears!
Naetha - I'm with you on being bored, i'm not officially due till tomorrow but feel overdue already, lol.
PCM - Glad your excited and that your LO is here soon.

Me & DP are going for a curry out tonight as it might be the last night we can go out together for a while.

Hope your all ok, XXX

fluffymummy · 02/01/2008 16:22

Hi all,

Can't believe I'm back at work today...what planet was I on when I thought that working until 38.5 weeks was a good idea? Oh well, at least its quiet as half the company are still on leave (scottish company, and today is a bank holiday there still) - and did I mention that I'm 'working from home' whilst looking after ds as nanny is ill? Even so, I've got another week and a bit of struggling to get into real clothes and shoes (shoes are the big issue for me at the moment, nothing fits anymore! ) and am trying to figure out why I thought that an extra week of paid leave at the end of my ML was worth this insanity!!

NYE was fun and it was great to go to a real party. The drive home from Tower Bridge took forever tho...even so, it was quite fun to get home at 2.30 in the morning and not have to worry about dcs - I think its going to be quite a while before that happens again!!!

Beller - so excited to hear your news, please post soon!

MrsMc - welcome back, but we need one of your special posts...

Lucky - any time now...

Naetha - I know exactly how you feel...ds was 2 weeks late and I didn't have the energy (let alone money etc) to do any of the haircut/facial/lunch type things that everyone talks about. Fragolina's suggestions are really good - maybe combine a face pack with watching your favourite girlie dvd/videa when DH isn't around to complain? I'm looking forward to watching the Princess Bride at least once before the LO arrives!!

Barristermum - will place the order this afternoon and text you when it arrives...

Mixedmama - welcome back! How did the house move go? Is BIL driving you up the wall or behaving ok? I've missed you on here...how you feeling?

Madmouse - so pleased everything is in order for your home birth.

Still trying to get around to visiting the labour wards at my hospital...we've now realised that there is absolutely nowhere to park anywhere nearby, which is just a bit irritating as I was planning to leave emergency extra stuff in the car. Definitely limits how much of our own 'kit' we can take in as DH isn't going to be happy carrying pillows, candles, 2 bags, food, water etc etc all at once!!

Welcome to all the new people...its never too late!!

Right, time to stop pretending to work (ie being remotely near computer) and get ds up from his non-sleep...how can a completely knackered 2 year old lie in bed chatting for 1.5 hours and not fall asleep?? If it were me, I'd have been out like a light after about 30 secs (although up for the loo about an hour later....!!!)

Love to all xxx

mixedmama · 02/01/2008 16:40

Hey fluffy,

What hosp are you going to?? Thats why I have stuck with my original hosp as I had DS at UCH last time and parking was a mega problem.

BIL is still an arse. Hasnt uttered one word to me the whole time we have been back and had limited convos with hubby. He went on hols on Xmas day and is back today. The night before he started washing clothes at 11pm and the flat is only small and really peed me off.,... didnt wake up DS but kept me awake till 4am.

Had a mini success and visited in laws on boxing day as well and altho MIL completely ignored me one of my younger BILs who i get on well with (he is adopted, so perhaps thats why) chatted to me loads and actually quite enjoyed it and DH seems to have appreciated the effort. Would be great to meet up with you and Barristermum now i am back in NW London altho suspect that wont be until we've all recovered after the births.

madmouse · 02/01/2008 16:44

Forgot to say in all my excitement - lo has actualy moved from right to left. All the sitting straight/leaning forward has paid off .

AngeChica · 02/01/2008 17:31

Re: if you're bored...
I've got ages til my due date but have to say that I've developed a massive games habit since I've been on leave. I've never been into computer games & we don't have any consoles or anything but am happy to play online puzzle games for hours(eg Yahoo Games has loads). I feel a bit guilty about doing something so unproductive but just find doing something really mindless is an excellent distraction!

Been laughing at DH today and his attempts to install our new BT Vision box. Needless to say I got it working in a few minutes! Amusing that he is a teacher but seems to find it difficult to follow instruction leaflets! Ooh now I can pause and record live TV and get films on demand! And it is much cheaper than Sky!

LuckySalem · 02/01/2008 17:32

Ange - That's what I do most of the day. www.pogo.co.uk

BeckyAu · 02/01/2008 18:00

OMG What an exciting day! Am delighted to hear Babybel has made an appearance and looking forward to hearing the details.

Pussycatmomma - you said exactly what I've been feeling - THIS MONTH! A BABY! I"M GOING TO BE A MUMMY! EEEEEEEKKKKK!And yeah I have all those physical symptoms, aches, pains and the like too. We're all normal normal normal. How good is that? I have my MW appt tomorrow (38+4) so hopefully LO is thinking about engaging as s/he hadn't before. I keep getting stabbing pains in my fanjo (never heard that term before but will use lots from now on - what a great word!) - does anyone know if that's a sign of the babe engaging? I haven't a clue!

I can't wait to hear about everyone's news - it's all very exciting and so fab for us all to be able to share and moan about being bored or squeak about getting excited all together. Babies babies babies - bring 'em on!

Big fat love to all xxx

beller · 02/01/2008 19:13

Hi All!

Dont have time to catch up, but as mixedmama said babybel is now George John Bell!

Will do a more detailed post later, homebirth went out of the window, meconium in waters..transfered in..put on a drip..30 hours later ventouse delivery and epiostomy (sp!).... I feel like I have been run over with a steam roller and can hardly sit down, but my little boy is totally gorgeous and worth every second of it...just need to him to learn to sleep at night now... will post in a few days, and thinking about everyone xxxxx

Amani · 02/01/2008 19:42

Hello everyone,

Remember me?

DD2 is now 11 days old and time has flown on this rollercoaster journey.

I found BF immensly hard to begin with and it's getting a little better, she feeds every 1hr - 1.5 hrs (as opposed to the initial 20 mins - the first night back home I had NO sleep). Oh, and also just got back from doctors who diagnoised with mastitis . Feel like my boobs are on fire and got an awful fever. Been feeling a little low lately too due to lack of sleep and feeling guilty about not spending enough time to DD1 (who is very jelous and has taken to ignoring the new arrival). Keep waiting for that magical time, when everything is supposes to get easier...??

That's all from me, other than good luck to anyone who still is to drop and congratulations to Beller, Awen, Mcdoodle and TwinsandTriplets (sorry haven't read all the posting so apologies if I have missed anyone out).

AngeChica · 02/01/2008 19:47

Hi Beller
congratulations! that's fab. Look forward to seeing a pic of little George. xx

Dotsie · 02/01/2008 19:53

Hi all. Still no sign of anything happening here...got really bad back ache, but I think that's down to the mountainous heap of ironing i did this aft rather than any movement from LO
Naetha - totally agree with you about feeling whale-like! Fed up with never being able to get comfy for more than a few minutes at a time too!

Has anyone tips for getting LOs to shift their feet out of your ribs?!

happynewkt · 02/01/2008 19:56

congratulations beller
sorry no home birth but end result is all that matters in the end...

congrats to others i'm sure i've missed, brain is mush in fact was going to find chart to update but have no brain power to manage it...

had friends with their 3 dcs today so wiped out.
um, so that's it from me, hope to sleep well tonight

nicky6 · 02/01/2008 21:19

Beller congratulations sounds horrible but as you say all worth it in the end.

cant believe people are having babies and i have spent the day at work anyway longer the better as far as i am concerened then i can get all the hot tips on what signs are real ones and be an expert by the time its my turn - hopefully at the end of the month, i am 36 +3 and baby has had head in 1/5 fro about 2 weeks - my midwife away so my last appointment was 18/12 and next one not til 14/1 - yikes.

Anyway well done everyone, mixed mama nice to have you back.

just for info homeopath said arnica 30 tablets morning and night 2 weeks before due date is meant to really help the whole healing thing.

xxxx

gingeme · 02/01/2008 21:28

Many congratulations to Beller on the safe arrival of baby George
Dotsie just gently push the lo's foot back out of your ribs. Usualy works.
Amamni keep your chin up babe. Mastitis sounds awful. Have you been given anti biotics? Try to get some green cabbage leaves to put down your bra. Yes it realy does work.
Does anyone know when it is safe to have acu pressure to start labour? Is it just when your over due or should you start it before hand? Oh and does it tickle? I have mega ticklish feet
I hope everyone has a restful night as possible. xxx

madmouse · 02/01/2008 22:44

Night all!

Beller - congratulations. Hope you are really enjoying your little boy.

Dotsie, for me it is usually a bum in the ribs (although no longer as he has dropped), what works is kneeling in front of sofa or bed and leaning over it to relax for a while, or standing up and walking around. Pushing back does not work for me, it becomes a game if I try that, with lo putting it straight back etc.

Amani, sorry it is all a bit tough to start with. Lovely to hear from you, hope mastitis clears up soon.

Just watched half a program about women having dolls that look like real babies and spend £300 on an outfit in Harrods for the baby and say it is money well spent as baby won't spoil it. Just too weird!

chunkypudding · 02/01/2008 22:57

hello all I've been lurking rather than posting as always find you sooo hard to keep up with!

and have been moving n building n stuff through all of start of maternity leave, then had chest infection over xmas/new year and am just recovering...

wanted to congratulate all those who have new arrivals! hooray and hope all are doing well!!

and also wanted to gibber a bit, its my due date tomorrow yikes!

toomanyshoes · 02/01/2008 23:02

Congratulations Beller! Fab news, so glad George is here safely and hope you feel less sore soon. Hope you've got all your family running around after you! Lots of arnica and stay in bed!

Sorry to hear so many of you are feeling huge and uncomfortable - not long now though!

Charlie is now 11 days and is an angel baby so far. He is sleeping about 22 of every 24 hours and has managed a couple of long stretches of sleep at night, 5 hours and 6 hours so far! Am hoping it lasts!! (pretty sure it won't but keeping everything crossed!) Feeling so much better than I was when pregnant, can run up the stairs without needing a lie down afterwards and the house is actually tidy for the first time in months Think i'm just really, really bad at pregnancy so being a new mum seems relatively easy in comparison. Felt exactly the same after having DD.

Mixedmama - Whipps was surprisingly good so sure you'll have a good experience there. We booked a room on Forest Suite afterwards and it was great, highly recommend it for the first night. Was lovely to have some privacy and your own bathroom, its also a lot easier to hide DH at kicking out time!

Am so impressed at those of you still working - i stopped at 25 weeks! Just think of all that lovely time off with your babies afterwards

Sabinar & Lilyloo, v excited for you, hope you're having speedy labours as i type. Will be back in the morning to check for news

Housemum · 03/01/2008 00:15

Hi all - just thought I'd creep back over here as al gone quiet on the December thread! Most of the December babies have arrived - just a few of us left holding on in there!

sabinar · 03/01/2008 01:09

hi all, typing one handed as have tiny baby in the other, little boy as yet unnamed. We got our home birth and it all went so smoothly. kicked off at 5am this morning and he arrived just after 9pm tonight. adoreable. more soon!

Naetha · 03/01/2008 08:24

Wow congratulations Sabinar - I'm so chuffed for you!!!!

Just to let you all know - I've started a January Post-natal thread here.

Well, I think things are finally kicking off for me - yay! Went for a long walk yesterday afternoon and had really painful BH and cramps afterwards. They died down in the evening, but then on one of my (far too frequent) loo trips in the night my plug fell out (someone described it as what you'd get if a giant sneezed - I'd say that's pretty accurate!). Ever since then I've been getting frequent, if not regular fairly painful contractions. Also, I'm not sure if my waters have broken, or this is part of my plug, but having an awful lot of "gloopiness" coming out - not a big gush, but certainly a bit more with every contraction.

Still sent DH off to work this morning (he was unimpressed!) and not cancelled my reflexology either. I figured the reflexology would be a good way to either speed things up naturally if they haven't progressed too much by then, or a nice way to relax and chill out!

My only worry now is the weather! We live about a mile from Ilkley moor, already have some snow on the ground, and as I look out of my window now I can see a huge mass of cloud that I'm sure is bringing more snow! Ah well, can always walk down to the bottom of the hill and get a taxi from there .

Right, I'm off to frantically tidy the house while I still can! (ooh really snowing now as well!)

MrsBiscuit · 03/01/2008 09:01

Congrats Sabinar and Beller.

And fingers crossed Naetha.

MW yesterday, and all's fine; no engagement yet but still got 3 weeks till due date. Just started taking raspberry leaf tea in the hope it will make labour easier eventually - not sure if it's just an old wives tale but willing to give it a go...

My internet games addiction is online boggle which keeps me occupied for hours...

lilyloo · 03/01/2008 09:21

Congrats Sabinar and Beller well done on the end result !
Well all stopped here and it is now snowing! Can't believe it was so sure it was all moving baby must like it better in the warm!
Will keep you all updated but sounds like thing moving for you Naetha fingers crossed we both have some news later!
Am feeling much better after a good nights sleep though so bring it on, just stop the snow!
