Thanks for the new thread. Someone was talking about Badger notes before? I had them when I was in the Borders but now in East Lothian I'm on paper notes. While having everything on an app sounds good I actually really like the physical notes. It feels safer handing over something rather than relying on an app.

Really liked the chat about choices for c section. Interestingly I have this silly fear of getting an epidural! I don't mind needles at all but the thought of it so close to my spine freaks me out. So I'm trying to avoid that. I've always wanted to experience a 'natural' birth but we'll see once the pain starts 😂 I think all you ladies getting c sections are amazing. It's a major op! My worst scenario is an induction. I think though that comes from hearing horror stories about how fast the birth was after being induced and how you don't have time to get used to the pain.

@Ready2020 paper notes sound so much better! This is my first so I’ve only ever had the app but it’s really awful. I think it’s a combination between that and the community midwives being so busy, being short staffed and the whole covid situation. My midwife was supposed to be phoning me about my preferences for the section (instead of a birth plan) because they aren’t doing them face to face but it hasn’t happened and that was over a month ago. I’m relatively relaxed about it though since I can just tell the people who are actually there on the morning of it but I have friends who were already anxious about a vaginal birth and now have no birth plan in place. They’ve phoned up and been told just to be open to possibilities or something vague, rather than have a plan 🤔 I get that’s probably what happens when it comes to it but it’s as if they just don’t have the staff to deal with it so aren’t bothering now. I hadn’t spoken to anyone from the hospital since 34 weeks and just happened to click on my c-section date on the app and saw it said a completely different time from what they’d said on the phone. Luckily I managed to phone and speak to them to confirm which time it was I was to go but it’s all just left very casual

@Ready2020 I really like having paper notes too - I stick a little piece of paper on the front and write my questions on there between midwife appointments so I don't forget!

Thanks for putting me on the list! I feel very special and included :) I am actually really really enjoying this thread as a community. Thank you all.

Thanks for info on stretch marks. Mine are not as bad as you describe yours, Angelesque - just a bit itchy, not sandy or anything. But new ones are still appearing and they are very red! Bio oil, shea butter, I guess I’ll try some Lansinoh too….!

Wow, lots of chat to catch up on!

Mode of birth, I’m very much in the whatever you choose camp. However have found my whole experience of ‘women’s’ healthcare somewhat disappointing. There seem to be so many opinions and so little actual research/well presented facts.

@lucyrp, have you finished work? Can you focus on relaxing? I feel there’s a cruel vicious circle where by you need to relax to get the oxytocin flowing & let baby know it’s safe to arrive, whilst as you are expecting an early arrival each day makes you more anxious.

@Ready2020 I’ve done lots of reading around induction from when I found out I would be induced at term if baby hadn’t arrived (and as I have a 2-5x increased risk of stillbirth, depending on what research you follow). The AIMS journal is interesting. I think, a little like emergency and planned sections being lumped together, the three types of induction are often lumped together and are quite different! I’m still very reluctant to go down the route of a drip - but feel more
Relaxed about other methods.

@HopefulB not yet, my last day is Saturday but I worked right up until 2 days before DS was born so didn't think that was a problem as such. I have a christening this weekend too so would like baby to stay put for that. OH and I are going for our last date night Saturday before baby comes too hopefully so that should increase oxytocin levels !

Covid test done today at the hosp…now I’m isolating until Friday 😬!
Charging up my Elvie although I don’t plan on using my pump for a good few weeks.
Lovely to see some news ladies on here for the home stretch! Finally getting around to packing my hospital bag and organising my life a little bit.
Luckily my cramps eased off, I think they’re Braxton hicks that are just feeling a bit more intense as days go on. Feeling very nauseous today although I think it’s apprehension!

Thank you for the new thread and the fab updated list!!

Does your household have to isolate too?

@Daffodil21 I’ve been walking past the box for days and thinking “I should really charge you up and make sure you work” haha.
Well they didn’t say if our whole house has to, however we are all isolating just to remove any risk as our daughter will happily lick any surface, dirty or clean haha! Xx

@RandomCatGenerator 😊 Re stretch marks, I have a colleague whose stretch marks opened up and bled in the final weeks, it was really unfortunate and she's left with scars. I can't remember the name of the condition, but it is possible. You're doing all the right things and whatever else you decide, do not scratch them. That's the worst you can do, but I can only imagine how frustrating this is if your skin is itchy! It will pass post partum, not long left.

@Jessicapebbles my covid swab is on Saturday and we'll be isolating after that too. However, until then I am living my life, got breakfasts and coffees with my friends who work part time or are on maternity leave now planned every day till Sat 🤗😆 I am loving this maternity leave business! I've never ever stopped working or working and studying since I was 16. I can't believe how nice it is to pause?! Work colleagues sent me a huge bunch of flowers today too, I love flowers! Feeling quite upbeat today 😊 xx

Afternoon everyone,
Just came from 38 week MW appointment, she reckons baby will be here sooner rather than later dd was born at 38.5 so lets see if this one is around the same time

Someone mentioned epidural earlier, just going to say it was the greatest thing I ever had esp since I had a forceps assisted birth.
I took gas and air as the needle went in didn’t feel a thing because if Ihad I definitely would have jumped 😂 anything or anyone touching my back gives me the creeps lol
