Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
scorpio1 · 10/12/2007 13:09

he just rang me, saying that he was sad that i hadnt txt him - i normally do throughout the day. he said he loves me and that he wants to be friends - our little word for knowing everything ok. he said sorry for what he put me and Millie through yesterday, again.

it will be ok, i know it will, just feel sad.

scorpio1 · 10/12/2007 13:12

lots of vests(8) and sleepsuits(8).
at least 2 cardis/light indoor jackets.
hats
scratch mitts (few pairs)

i got a few outfits, but nothiing with buttons or zips, just leggings and smock tops, a pinafore dress thing and dresses with leggings underneath Millie has this and this for example

SantasGotABigFatEllieG · 10/12/2007 13:15

Course it will be OK. If he loves you and is trying hard to make it right it bodes well. Does he need any external help at all? Sometimes it takes an outside person to see things a bit more clearly.

SantasGotABigFatEllieG · 10/12/2007 13:17

Do they wear vests and sleepsuits? And do they wear sleepsuits in the day?

scorpio1 · 10/12/2007 13:17

No, just a day that got bad, i think, he has seen counsellors before for issues and hasn't done the offending behaviours since, so that was obviously sorted. just a bad arguement i think, but so so rare for us, we are normally v cuddly and things.

scorpio1 · 10/12/2007 13:19

they wear nappy, vest and sleepsuit indoors. it is much easier for baby to wear sleepsuit for at least first week all the time - so easy to change, put down to sleep, etc. baby always wears vest(when a baby baby), unless summer is very hot.

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 10/12/2007 13:19

I like Lacey, alot.
Would you definitely spell Tayla that way?? Only I think if dp/almosth wants to call her tay then Taila and Tai would be prettier or even Taela/Tae. None of my business really but I do have to get my nose stuck in
Congrats Loistell, I'm convinced I'm having a boy too would be shocked if it was girl now!
We've changed our boys name now. Was Blake but for some reason I've really gone off it now, we like Liam, or Oliver, but dp's brother is called Oliver so have to think hard about it. Definitely Roxy for a girl.

SantasNotSoLittleHelper · 10/12/2007 13:20

Scorpio - hope you´re feeling a little better. I hate it when DH & I fall out One of the girls in DS's class has a birthday today so have just had cake

scorpio1 · 10/12/2007 13:20

and when you go out, they need one layer more than you, and a hat as a rule. i just stick them in one of those pramsuits and a hat if chilly, a coat if not too bad, with a hat.

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 10/12/2007 13:22

As for buying stuff, I went really OTT with my other two, so this one is having the mothercare bedside cot, a loola in pearly grey, not even sure about a bouncy chair, mine didn't like them, they preffered a blanket on the floor.
Clothes wise I'm only doing sleepsuits/vests, being due in April we won't need too much. I think baby needs one more layer of clothing than you, thats it. I'm bfin so no need for bottles or steriliser etc.

scorpio1 · 10/12/2007 13:23

i prefer Taila, but think people may read Thalia? i love Lacey but have a bit of persuading, and yes DP wants to call her Tai as her name.(He saw Tai first and i said i would something longer, how about Taila and he liked it).

Blake is lovely!!! What about Dexter? i am determind to get a bay on here named Dexter, because its not mine going to be blue! Roxy lush.

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 10/12/2007 13:24

x-post scorpio!
Yay I was right about the layers

Denny185 · 10/12/2007 13:25

Scorpio - how bout couscous or a rice salad thingy.

Things not to get
Bath - use the kitchen sink then when too big bring them in the bath with you.
Loads of toys - by the time they can play with them they are bored of them
Cute little outfits with tight waistbands that end up giving them tummy ache

Def need
muslins - for winding, but also put over your sheet where head goes - if sicky just need to wash that bit and not whole lot.
Babygros/sleepsuits
Vests
Cardigans
Blankets
Sleepingbag
Buggy/pram/sling
Something to sleep in - cot
Steriliser - recommended for 12 months if bottle feeding
Nappies
Black out blind/curtain

Things we had that never/hardly ever got used.
Playgym
swing
dummies
cute little outfits
special baby towels
booties/trainers/shoes
All in one coat - unless out in the sling
Cot toys - things with big flashing lights and lots of noise, great for sleep environment

Hmm more will come im sure but lunch is calling

ToastandMincePieAddict · 10/12/2007 13:25

Scorpio {{{{ hugs }}}} hope things get better and back to normal soon

Lois - congrats on scan and girl

Ellie - things I plan on getting, but am not organised enough yet to have done so - some of those Grobag things for her to sleep in, a baby gym type thing, with the mat and arch over it, baby monitor, moses basket, nice rocking chair for me to feed her in (I like this one from Ikea), a million sleepsuits.... oh and everyone seems to swear by muslins, so will get some of them.

Oh, I went to that Slingmeet on Friday, it was good to see them in action! I get the impression that most of the ladies there were quite "hippy chick", so rather than buying the ultra expensive carriers, a lot of them made their own! I was tied up in one (with a Bob the Builder doll as a baby!) and they really are dead easy to use, and only cost about £5 for the material!! So I will be getting some material soon

Can I start the food porn? Just went to get my lunch (beans on toast, with a packet of Wotsits, for the calcium!) and saw the hugest packet of Jaffa Cakes. A great long box of them, with "I'm dreaming of an Orange Christmas" along the side. 60 cakes in a box!!! Need to drop a few hints to dh, would be a lovely Xmas pressie! Or maybe a good afternoon snack

scampmum · 10/12/2007 13:26

Muslins x 5000000

nappies and wipes (I did reusables so can provide advice if you're up for that but MANY more knowledgable - and militant - folk than me on here!)

changing mat?

I had a bath chair thing but realised the other day is prob a bit of a waste of water to fill whole bath.

I found a swaddling blanket v. helpful

thermometer good for paranoid first timers!

towels with hoods on are great, got ours from Primark (although friend gave v. expensive Petit Bateau one which she instantly weed, pooed and had her funny little period thing on!)

black and white cloth books?

breastfeeding cushion (prob a bit of a gimmick)/breast pump

MASSIVE bras (you won't believe what happens to your boobs), loads of breast pads and maternity towels for you

a jug for water for breastfeeding - makes you SO thirsty

I would go for the microwave steriliser (we didn't as don't have microwave) as sometimes the 8-minute wait for e.g. the pump is really tedious (with a yelling baby)

Soph - horrified at 1kg! When did you last see her? I thought we were supposed to be putting on 1lb a week?

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 10/12/2007 13:31

I agree with musilns, also a scarfy type thing to bf in public if you're a bit nervous.
Nappies and cotton wool, I don't do wipes, made both mine have horrid nappyrash.

Also hardly ever use nappies when at home. If a baby is on a waterproof mat with a blanket on then it's easy enough to clean and it's good for both their bum and the environment.

I want a sling too but have no idea which one to use, maybe you could tell us all how to make one???

scorpio1 · 10/12/2007 13:33

mmm food porn - i had veg soup and cheese, a banana and now flake cakes

ToastandMincePieAddict · 10/12/2007 13:34

Denny - interesting to see the stuff that never got used - maybe I'll try to borrow one of those gym things, in case it gets totally ignored!

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 10/12/2007 13:34

Oh and Scorpio re:the spelling, my name is Lorraine, spelt Lorayn, it's rare someone gets it right, but it's also rare people first learn my name through reading it, so normally by the time people see it spelt Lorayn, they already know how to pronounce it, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.
Part of the reason my DD is Danni-Ella is because I didn't want her to get called DanYella, but it didn't work!

scampmum · 10/12/2007 13:35

sorry, about 20 posts while typing!

Scorpio, was going to say try not to worry, always best to remember in these circumstances that blokes by default are insensitive shits! Hope you feel better after his text, though chocolate orange still an excellent idea. I like Taila and Millie, though Lacey is pretty.

I might have to go and get some chocolate digestives. Been craving them since you guys diagnosed chocolate biscuits on Thurs!

Oh yeah, prob don't get the 'milk-in' bras now, or if you do make sure you go somewhere with a good consultant. I went to M&S and they were totally rubbish - I was a 34E pregnant and she measured and said I was a 40B or something stupid (turned out to be 34F, surprisingly). She might have been a one-off, though, and the bras were quite good value.

My friend who STILL has all my maternity stuff ordered me an Elle MacPherson La Mer - gorgeous!

scorpio1 · 10/12/2007 13:35

i suppose i should be used to it by now, Reilly gets called all sorts and spelt a million ways, so will do that again! my name is easy - Stephanie.

SantasNotSoLittleHelper · 10/12/2007 13:38

DS only wore sleepsuits for the first week or so - no vests ... well it was 40 degrees that October!! We then graduated to tops & elasticated trousers. Have just had cake - yummy Gosh, it seems like such a long time ago now!!

scampmum · 10/12/2007 13:41

So excited for you guys having your first! And for the rest of us - sure I can't remember any of it even though was 20 months ago...

Lunch had soup and salad then shared chips as was still hungry. Think will go out for biscuits shortly, all bosses seem to be out

I get called Fransesca a lot or spelt Franchesca.

scampmum · 10/12/2007 13:44

I think Reilly is a lovely name, Scorpio (assume pronounced RY-LEE?) - I was actually wondering on my way in this morning if you'd mind if I nicked it?! Am going off my boy name

scampmum · 10/12/2007 13:45

woops - OUR boy name
