Have DS, 13 months. Stopped bf in Oct and immediately got pg but was chemical preg which I lost at 5 weeks. Now got BFP today, very excited. Quite faint line but definitely a line.

Anyone want to join?

Evening! Not so RAF today but wearing sea bands to combat nausea. Work is mad busy and trying to cram everything in before I take 2 weeks annual leave starting this friday is proving a little difficult!!

Very nervous and excited about the scan tomorrow. I'm hoping I'll see something like TS did as we're roughly due at same date. I think I will be 9 weeks in the next couple of days which will make my due date more like 15th Aug and not 11th as gp suggested. We'll know more after 1.20 tomorrow!!!!

ChaCha · 08/01/2008 18:45

hello ladies,

SFK - Hoping everything is alright and that the next few days pass with ease for you. Will await your news this Friday, fingers crossed for you.

Buckets - Very interesting nausea plan - like it and will try. Salad pots also very good idea, i find that when standing around in kitchen wondering what to prepare/eat i feel worse. Am expecting my food shop tonight with added treats - have not been keeping anything down at all Went to my mum's last night and spent a sad 20 minutes with her over dinner before throwing up and crashing out - not much fun.

CaptainC - I booked a private scan this afternoon for tomorrow - i was unable to make booking appt today at m/w as i was really unwell and DC were a nightmare so when she told me to come along after my 12 week scan which is still almost 3 weeks away i decided i could no longer wait. Cannot spend 12 weeks of PG without knowing things are okay!! Am quite excited going after 5pm.

Quite happy that i cooked the dinner earlier as am now unable to do anything except look after the DC. Buckets why did you mention salad pot....oh God, major craving coming on.....

dizzydixies · 08/01/2008 18:51

hi girls, been away for a while as been on nightshift, NOT fun! My body does not know which way is up or which way is down so a tad nauseous and indegestion at all hours of the day! Am also shattered but last night was my last shift and once pregnancy confirmed next week (fingers crossed) I can ask off doing nights - yipee!!!

good luck for your scans tomorrow girls, will be sending positive thoughts your way

most importantly, are smokey bacon crisps a valid craving or just greed?!?

take care

SKF · 08/01/2008 18:53

Hullo all

Rang gp's. They said ring EPU at hosp, I did, they said come in to A&E and we'll look at you, I went to A&E, waited two hours then they said 'there's noone here to do the scanning', so I have to go back at 9am tomorrow. Grrr!

The bleeding has stopped though, so don't know if that is a good sign. I did see a doc, but he was very non committal and said they only way to know would be to scan.

So I will let you know what happens. I just want to know now.

Many thanks for all your kind thoughts. xx

dizzydixies · 08/01/2008 19:09

oh how frustrating SKF
I hope you get on better tomorrow
fingers crossed

Joining in in sending vibes to SFK, GG and Shazza.

Also, seeking an answer to a question. Back to ol' MS (after some improvement yesterday mine has worsened again - poor stressed out DH took me to the GP who said, which didn't help matters, that I'm now half a point from being technically underweight and that my body has already gone into stage one of Ketosis - yum ...) Anyway, is there a trick to eating when feeling nauseous - you all seem to be impressively good at doing the last thing in the world I feel like doing. Thoughts?

dizzydixies · 08/01/2008 19:53

is there anything at all and I mean ANYTHING that you fancy?
lucozade is always a winner for me, sugar helps and beans on toast was staple diet when had horrendous ms with dd1
at moment am craving digestive biscuits with butter and cheese!
don't worry about eating too healithly at the moment as by the sounds of it you're needing your reserves built back up so fire in to what ever you want!!

CaptainCaveman · 08/01/2008 20:04

Bea have you tried the 'sea' bands? I got mine from local chemist for £8 and whilst they don't get rid of ms altogether, they at least allow me to function without chucking up, and more importantly to eat something! Well worth a try if you haven't already done so. Recommended to me by a friend who used them whilst pg with her twins, and she thinks they saved her sanity

Ds in bed, all tucked up safely, dh in the pub and will be home around 11.30. I plan to veg on the sofa and eat some crap, then get an early night

Chacha, how exciting to get your scan tomorrow too! If you don't mind me asking, how much has it cost you? Mine is a dating scan, takes about 15 mins and is £50. For that you get the scan, a photo and a medical report of your scan. If I don't see you on mn before then, good luck

CaptainCaveman · 08/01/2008 20:07

Sorry SKF GG and Shazza, didn't forget you! Praying for you all of course, especially at 9am tomorrow SKF ((((((hugs)))))

Hooray for you dizzydixies! Hoping here's an end to rotten night shifts - bleugh, they used to make me so ill!

dizzydixies · 08/01/2008 20:28

thank you Captain Caveman, am not sure if it was the nightshift or not getting a decent sleep due to dh not taking them out but am glad its done for now. have same cunning plan for evening as you, both dds in bed and dh on late shift so laptop on chair and remote is mine for the next few hours at least!

I've had a look up here (Fife) for private scan but can't find one. My booking in scan etc is next week and although am not sure how this pg is going will just have to wait out the curiosity! Good luck tomorrow for you though
xx

poppysocks · 08/01/2008 20:51

Fingers crossed for all the scans tomorrow, esp SKF.

Re: eating with MS, a colleague who had it really badly found that baked potatoes with cottage cheese were the only thing that worked for her and she now has two lovely healthy DCs. She swears she ate nothing other than that for the first 20 weeks!

We're trying to decide about early scans and/or nuchal translucency - neither of which are available locally or for free. I think we've decided not to get the early scan unless I have reason to worry. On the nuchal translucency, I'd get the blood test at 16 weeks, but it says it only picks up two thirds of cases, but then again I'm not high risk. Hmmm. Trouble is it's nearly £200 and an hour and half away so would be a bit of a nightmare re: time off work/childcare. Not sure. Any thoughts?

Other thing here is that I've changed hospitals rather rashly. Our closest hospital isn't in our local health authority and some care is there and some locally and it was all a total muddle last time. I had thought I'd go back - 'better the devil you know', but after speaking to a friend who's going to the other hospital I discovered I'd get loads more midwife contact AND a scan in the our local cottage hospital. As I think I hope to have a c-section the extra distance from home shouldn't be such a big deal. Who knows whether it was the right decision, but worth a shot!

TwilightSurfer · 08/01/2008 22:49

Bea I did some research about the MS and your Ketosis. Dizzy's suggestion about Lucozade is a very good start. In the states the same thing is called Gatoraid. We also have a pediatric version called Pedilyte which is more easily absorbed by the body. This is how I helped to end my MS marathon. I sipped it about a liter of it...it's equal to a hospital drip. Can you locate anything similar to that in the UK (baby care sections are where you find the stuff here). Second suggestion from CaptainCaveman is also awesome and yet another thing I used with the MS marathon. It didn't end the nausea but it did help stop the vomit sensations long enough to get fluids in me. It's not an immediate fix...took about four hours to really see a difference for me. BUT IT WORKED! Once you can stomach real food, Poppysocks baked potato would be perfect or something similar because to counteract the Ketosis you need high carbs for their glucos value. Chips, olives, crackers, pretzels, popcorn, salted oranges, tomato juice (V-8), cheese and crackers, pinto beans and rice, grilled cheese sandwich, rolls with butter....all ideas. You might notice a theme: salt. Salt (not a lot) helps balance your stomach out. It also kills that post-vomit taste if you sprinkle a little on your hand and lick it. Good luck keeping things down.

ChaCha · 09/01/2008 09:51

Hello [waves]

Buckets, breakfast 1 was had at 7.30am with DC and DH, i can feel breakfast 2 coming on already!! I really don't eat well in the evenings and it's been a few days now where i have kept NOTHING down whatsoever. Feeling hungry.

CaptainC - I'm not sure, if i remember correctly the last private dating scan i had at same place was £125. Very much a luxury for us.

Will log on before i go and see how yours went, exciting!!!!

gigglegirl · 09/01/2008 10:04

morning ladies!
One cup of tea down this morning but nothing else so far..... think I might just go for a day or two of tea and toast and see if I can stop this horror!
I have got my booking appointment next week and am also thinking of where to have this baby. Had DD at a big hospital where I used to ive - awful time, really medially managed which resulted in 4 day labour, failed ventouse, forceps, 4th degree tear and blood transfusions... but DS1 was born at home. planned that way and was AMAZING, had the best antenatal care all from the same midwife and all at home. Then we moved and DS2 was born in hospital which was ok but we were left very much to ourselves and DH had to drag a midwife in to catch him as we had a very young midwife who though I would be hours! So not sure what to do this time. Homebirth might be difficult as summer hols so all 3 kids will def be around plus open windows due to heat may make it into a side show.... would rather not go to a big hospital and there is a midwife led unit about 45mins away but DH can't drive so would be reliant on mum - do quite fancy that though as apparently they really look after the mum and I quite fancy a few days of rest before returning to the mad house! Last time I was home 3 hours after he was born which was my choice as didn't want to stay in large hospital but would be nice to have a rest. Oh the decisions we have to make!
Anyone got any experience of Corbar Maternity Unit in Buxton? I'm in Marple so Stepping Hill is the nearest hospital.

gigglegirl · 09/01/2008 10:11

Hi all,

The rehydration stuff my DH husband made for me was:

  1. Table Salt - 3/4 teaspoon
  2. Baking Powder - 1 teaspoon
  3. Sugar -4 tablespoons
  4. Orange juice - 1 cup
  5. Water - 1 liter Just mix it all together - it is actually ok and seems to work quite well, stopped me having to go on a drip anyway!
Buckets · 09/01/2008 10:12

Chacha - just wondering if I could make it to local greasy spoon for brunch with DS. Nope, already feeling sick, would feel shocking and not in the mood for fry up by the time it was ready. Curses, should have planned this, maybe tomorrow.

Bea - Drink a big glass of water or sugary squash first then throw that up to appease the goddess LOL. Then try hot buttered toast. I assume you're trying to drink Dioralyte or other rehydration drink?

GG - holidays is great because childcarewise, nobody has to rush back for schoolruns. We have the option of transferring from big hospital to a couple of maternity units for recuperation - maybe you could have homebirth (to solve initial chidcare issues) then bugger off with the baby for some peace.

FoghornLeghorn · 09/01/2008 10:13

SKF - Hope you get some good news from your scan today
Shazza - Sorry to hear about your mum - hope you are bearing up OK

SKF · 09/01/2008 10:57

Hi all

Bad news, fetus stopped growing at 6 weeks and there is no HB. Have to wait a week, have another scan then decide what to do. I think I will have an ERPC to get it all over and done with. It's a formality to have to wait a week, but hospital policy to ensure that the fetus still hasn't grown and that it wasn't just an error with my dates.

I am 100% on my dates though, and as I no longer feel pregnant in any way, shape or form, I know it is over.

We are totally devastated but will try to be philosophical.

So, I am bowing out now, and hope you all have happy, healthy and successful pregnancies, and hope to see you on some other threads!

Much love to all,

S
XXXX

FoghornLeghorn · 09/01/2008 11:02

Oh SKF I don't know what to say I'm so sorry x

gigglegirl · 09/01/2008 11:10

oh SKF - words just aren't there at all. I am thinking and praying for you and am so saddened by your news, sending you big hugs and hand squeezes.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

juliewoolie · 09/01/2008 11:21

SKF so very sorry.

MollieMooma · 09/01/2008 11:33

SFK - nothing I can say, sending you hugs, so sorry for you x
Bea-I think you should try absolutely everything everyone has suggested to try and sort out the MS and get some weight back on you hun, you must be feeling dreadful.

Well I've got my second scan tomorrow to see if the pip has grown at all. I'm a bit of a mess today, people keep asking me if I'm OK at work as I'm quiet and all I do is cry in response, as hardly anyone knows the situation it's becoming quite difficult. Can't believe the emotions I'm feeling, I'm trying to be sensible and think what will be will, but it's so hard all this waiting!
Hoping all you MS sufferers feel better soon x

PetitFilou1 · 09/01/2008 11:44

Can I join please
I have ds almost 4, dd almost 2.5 and am due no3 on 29 august (I think) although am not sure of dates. I've been a regular on MN for a while.

Feeling sick all day every day at the moment - it is really getting me down. Not getting much work done (I do 3 days a week)

Mollie - just read your post - good luck, I think you should go home.

gigglegirl · 09/01/2008 11:45

it seems to silly to be stressing about MS and losing weight when SFK and MollieMooma and others are going through what they are. Perspective is now back and am thinking of all you instead and hoping that things get better.
xx

MollieMooma · 09/01/2008 12:08

Hey gigglegirl don't do that, everybody's personal problems are still important whether it's MS or which hospital to chose, current children or other half's, it doesn't mean you shouldn't moan about them at all, it's great to log on and see what everyone else is going through so please don't stop!
Anyway you and petitfilou made me cry again stupid hormones!
