Have DS, 13 months. Stopped bf in Oct and immediately got pg but was chemical preg which I lost at 5 weeks. Now got BFP today, very excited. Quite faint line but definitely a line.

Anyone want to join?

Buckets when I attended my first MW appointment at my GP surgery my MW was working at the hospital for 2 wks, so I was booked my dating scan, and told that my MW would be in contact after the new year. If I hadn't heard from her I was to ring her when I'd had my scan. I was told that she would automatically come to my house, although my SIL who lives about 10 miles away had to attend the local cottage hospital!
Very odd how it all works!

JoanWilder · 05/01/2008 20:44

hiya people, horribly ill over xmas and absolutely knackered = bed at 8.30pm new years eve...feeling better from the cold but still got my hyperemisis, awful and makes work really difficult (I work in a shop) but got my 1st mw appointment on tues pm, so the scan wont be long now...

JoanWilder · 05/01/2008 20:45

also how do you all cope with the full bladder thing? I cannot bear it...can never manage it and think I am about to wet myself. Any tips?

TwilightSurfer · 05/01/2008 23:14

Bealcain, yes that's an awesome and EXTREMELY addictive show. I know of no place in 200 miles of me that's anything close to that but it is quite dreamy and so very informative. I started watching it when pregnant with DD and learned soooo much. Occasionally I'll catch a rerun now. Any knowledge about birthing is good knowledge in my book.

Wish I could say I had a craving today but I don't. I'm just eating anything that will make the nausea go away. Seems to intensify as I get hungrier which oddly makes me unsure of what I want to eat. I'm thinking I might be experiencing a little heartburn too. BIG NOTE I'm definitely carrying high...my tummy has taken on the most obvious pregnant shape, small but there. And I'm for sure it's not bloating now as my plumbing is working like perfect clockwork again. This is so exciting because with last pregnancy that fail...this didn't happen SOOOO things must be progressing perfectly. YEAH!!

Other than that today has about done me in. First we were 45min late to the zoo party but still had a BLAST. Lunch and shopping with DD & DH followed. Made my weekend run to the grocery while DH entertained DD. Then home. It's been a L O N G D A Y. Oh, and I've not napped either. I forsee snoring in my future. LOL

TwilightSurfer · 05/01/2008 23:17

JoanWilder...my bladder doesn't wait till it's full to give the "got to go" urge. Not much you can do about it except go. And go. And go. And go.

TwilightSurfer · 06/01/2008 01:11

Okay I just got crazy and took pictures of my 8+0 belly...and then I posted them in my profile. Go laugh!!

warthog · 06/01/2008 12:27

i'm confused - some of you are having scans so early? i thought you only got scans at 12+ weeks?

TwilightSurfer · 06/01/2008 12:37

Warthog I miscarried on 09NOV and 17 days became pregnant again. All my scans are because my doctor's being very cautious. Technically I've not even been seen for my official first pregnancy visit yet...these have all just been medical follow-ups (which is a little odd). I have my first official pregnancy visit tomorrow at 8+3. Normally I wouldn't have a scan then either but due to my circumstances I will. It is common in textbook cases to only have the one scan at 20 weeks in the US. I think from all my readings here in the UK you get two, one at 12 then one at 20.

warthog · 06/01/2008 13:35

sorry about your miscarriage twilight, how pregnant were you?

TwilightSurfer · 06/01/2008 13:48

8+3 when the unexplained bleeding started then 10 days later I miscarried.

TwilightSurfer · 06/01/2008 13:58

oops just reread my posts...tomorrow i'll be 8+2 at 1st official preggers visit. brain cluttered with stats and dates and symptoms and junk

bealcain · 06/01/2008 15:46

after reading some of your posts, it seems that my care down here is rather unusual. you go to see the doctor to say your pg, he refers you to the community mws who book you in at home, around 8weeks. then you have a 12week scan to confirm pg (no urine is tested at booking) then you see mw again but at surgery at 16weeks, scan at 20weeks, mw 24weeks and then every 4weeks until 36 when it's 2weeks, then weekly after 40weeks. if you;re booked for home birth all these AN appts. are at home otherwise they're done at drs surgery. they're starting to introduce mobile scanning machines and sonographers aswell, so you wont need to go to hospital for thme either, they can be done at gps. that is all of course if pg progresses normally.

TwilightSurfer · 06/01/2008 16:09

bealcain that's almost how it goes in the states. If you're pregnant you phone your doc whose nurse schedules your first appt for about 8 weeks (depends on circumstances of course). Then you see your doc (or midwife) every four weeks until 36 weeks. After that you're seen weekly until you deliver. There's typically only one scan at 20 weeks. You pee in a cup each visit but only do bloods once at the first appointment. In some areas of the country midwives will come to your home...docs never do. Home births are VERY uncommon but birthing centers are popping up more and more. Hospital birth is still the number one choice for most. It would be WONDERFUL if most of my care between 8 and 36 weeks could be handled at home since the visits are really quick anyway.

Buckets · 06/01/2008 17:32

Hiya
Popping on to distract myself from the feeling that I may throw up the enormous bowl of delicious spagbol DH made me. Lovely as it was, I don't fancy 'going through it' again.
Still mostly nauseous with the odd random vomit. Although had a shocking bout of diarrhoea last night, thought I was getting the bl**dy norovirus again. Yet another few lbs down the loo, can't really complain about that LOL. My normal clothes are all a bit big now so I doubt I'll need maternitywear until at least 20wks.
Hope I haven't made anyone chuck LOL and surely it won't be long before some of us hit the 12wk mark and maybe start to feel a little better...

CaptainCaveman · 06/01/2008 18:49

TS i am marvelling at your belly! You are right, it does have a definate pg shape!

Back from the PILs safe and sound. Felt shocking yesterday but no nausea today, until we got home around 5.15. Now feeling crap again. I'm so rubbish at feeling ill, it makes me really miserable too!

Good to see you back Joanwilder, did wonder where you had got to but assumed it was your HG. Sorry to hear you're still ill though.

Also having heartburn/indigestion, nausea in the middle of the night (and have to get up to eat). Have started leaving a biscuit or 2 by the side of the bed to eat if I do wake up feeling ill. Seems to work a treat.

And re. needing to pee. Absolutely DRINK MORE FLUIDS. The less you drink, the more concentrated your urine is. The more concentrated your urine is, the more of an irritant it becomes to your bladder. Also true to avoid carbonated and caffeinated drinks as these are bladder irritants too. ALSO have you started doing your pelvic floor exercises yet? It's never too early to start!! (can you tell I'm a continence trained nurse?!)

warthog · 06/01/2008 19:06

twilight, i'm sorry to hear that. i miscarried in august but i was only 6 weeks.

captain, what you say about drinking more water definitely makes sense! i didn't understand why i wanted to go more the less i drank.

buckets, sorry you're having such a rough time with ms. hope it gets better soon.

libbyssister · 06/01/2008 20:29

OK, don't shoot me down...but is anyone actually feeling OK? I read somewhere that only 50% of pregnant women get MS.

I have had a couple of mild waves of nausea for perhaps 30 secs but nothing worse. With DS1 it was the same.

I wonder why some women get it and some don't?

poppysocks · 06/01/2008 21:05

I managed to miss the fact that I was pg with DD because I didn't have MS. Thought that you couldn't be pregnant without it .

TS - nice bump! I'm only 8 weeks today and have something more than that! The size 8 jeans are now feeling rather uncomfortable, although that could just be a January thing. Hoping I can keep things under wraps at work until the scan (another 4 weeks - seems like an ETERNITY!). I'm feeling really conscious of people looking and wondering (I work with lots of women) and found myself covering my stomach with files etc. every time I stood up on Friday.

Right, must be off to choose a suitably a loose, but not maternity outfit for tomorrow.

TwilightSurfer · 06/01/2008 21:24

Kegels Kegels Kegels LOL

Libbyssister I have a close friend who never experienced MS. She's had two pregnancies. There's no rhymne or reason for who gets it and who doesn't...truly it's a unsolved mystery.

About the bump...thanks. I really am proud of it. I've decided to enjoy the shape I become this time.

Sitting on the front porch at the moment (wireless is awesome). The weather is warm today. DD is playing in the yard. It's so nice to have a break from the freeze we've been having. We desperately needed the FRESH AIR. Hope everyone has a specatular week!!

Kezza7779 · 06/01/2008 21:46

Its great to read what people around the same date as me are doing and experiencing. I think im 8 weeks today and im feeling nauseous pretty much all day and evenings. I have terrible back ache, apparantly due to my uterus being tilted backwards and putting pressure on my nerves? Its meant to pop back up at 10 to 12 weeks so heres waiting.....
Ive had 2 MC at 9 weeks so i am incrediby nervous at the moment approaching 'that' time, i have been referred for an early scan, should be about a week wait, i cant wait as last MC was a blighted ovum (no baby in sac) and it broke my heart.
Congratualtions to al you preggers lot out there an heres to happy healthy pregnancys for us all x x x

Buckets · 07/01/2008 11:59

I kind of expected m/s, it runs in the family, wonder if I programmed myself LOL. Have taken the morning after pill a couple of times over the years though and puked spectacularly for hours and hours - I do not get on well with excess hormones.
On the plus side, my nails are definitely getting stronger already (one of my better pergnancy symptoms.) Have bought a new file today to start taking care of them and make the most of it.

libbyssister · 07/01/2008 15:04

I hadn't clocked that my fingernails had got stronger, but you're right!

I can't wait until my hair gets thicker, that was good too. Until it all started to fall out again 3 months after DS1 was born and I kept having to unblock the plug after a shower.

Buckets · 07/01/2008 16:31

That's really common Libbyssister. Any sort of trauma can just stop your hair growing temporarily, I even know someone who had it when her marriage collapsed very suddenly. You don't notice until 3m later because that's when the new hair starts up again and pushes out the older stuff with renewed vim and vigour.

Fingers crossed for you Kezza.

Bea0001InowwishIhadabettername · 07/01/2008 17:34

Hello everyone and welcome to all the newbies. I need to have a moan!!! I have not been around for the past week as I've become progressively poorly with MS, to the extent that all I've been able to do is crawl out of bed and onto the sofa and then back again (thankfully I've been able to take some time out from work). The constant nausea has just today started to subside but I have absolutely no energy left; since Christmas I've lost over 2.5kg which in my case is not a 'good thing' - leaves me well and truly under 7.5stone (not too dramatic given I'm only 5ft and small boned, but still, like I say, not good - Twightlight I'm so jealous of your beautiful beautiful belly!). And I know the only thing I can do to get better again is eat, but I have no appetite and even when I force myself to have something it tastes horrible! Like I say, I needed a Moan! Moan! Moan! Thanks for listening ...

CaptainCaveman · 07/01/2008 17:56

hey gang! Have booked in for a private scan this wednesday at 1.20... am very nervous and very excited. It's going to cost £50 which for my peace of mind is totally worth it. Not due to book in to see mw until 16th and unlikley to get a scan til early feb otherwise.

Nausea bands working a treat!
