Not very original, but the thread WAS becoming ridiculously big.

OP posts:

yay for a new thread, i couldn't get the old one to refresh for ages!

Had my latest m/w checkup yesterday, even though i'm 25+3, I had to ask for my MAT B form - thought that would be all ready and waiting for me but no!

Anyway, all fine, good strong heartbeat, blood pressure has gone way down since last few measurements (thank you hypnobirthing relaxation exercises ) and measurements are to scale so far. Still won't say yay or nay to a homebirth, apparently they only discuss that at the 30 wk checkup, probably as i'm down for a GTT in 3 weeks time so they'll wait for the results of that.

Anyone know what blood tests get done around 28 wks? Can't work out if i need to get them done separately or if it's just the iron count, in which case they'll do that at the same time as the GTT.

Got to make sure now that i get at least 10 kicks a day, and if not to go to the hospital for a scan...she said even if i have to go in every day! Not a prob at the moment as i get kicked to pieces most days, but he does wriggle round, so not sure if i prefer kicking in the side or between my legs

As for the gaviscon, am i the only one necking it constantly this early? I think i'm going to give birth to a monkey if the old wive's tale about hairy babies and indigestion is true

MerlinsBeard · 21/11/2007 20:26

i too am in need of gaviscon!!! Am 23 weeks now and my goodness does it burn! can't afford to deviate from our measly shopping budget at mo tho so making do with sips of milk....eurgh!

fitnforty · 21/11/2007 20:39

MoM, have read elsewhere that milk actually makes it worse! (she says, demolishing a tub of carte d'or)...inflames it while tricking you into thinking it's soothing things, grr.

turtle23 · 21/11/2007 20:42

FITNFORTY..are you doing classes with hypnobirthing? Dont know if I can afford to do them but would love to at least do the CDs at home...are they expensive?

OP posts:
MerlinsBeard · 21/11/2007 20:45

noooooo FAF don't tell me that!!!!

wondered why i still had it

timmyinatizzy · 21/11/2007 22:36

Merryberry thanks for the link to Isabella Oliver. The dress looks gorgeous and definitely one I could probably pull off. I like the dark purple one. I'll let you know if I decide to go for it.

HQ - Hope the scan goes well I know you have been waiting for ages while we have had ours. I'll post some pictures of the happy day. Can't promise that it'll be on the day though

fitnforty · 21/11/2007 22:44

Hi Turtle
yes i'm doing the classes and they are expensive, but for me it's worth it. However, I think you can still get 75% of it from the book, it comes with the Rainbow Relaxation cd which you need to listen to every day. You also need to practise the breathing exercises in the book daily (if possible) and work through the visualisations in the book. I've found the classes better for making sure that i'm doing the breathing properly, and also saying what not to get too hung up on if you aren't doing it 100%!

fitnforty · 21/11/2007 22:46

Turtle-
just realised i'm not sure if you were talking about the cds or the classes being expensive!
We only get one cd with the book and that's enough to keep going with. We've got the new uk edition of the book though, the US version has an extra relaxation cd apparently.

monthlymayhem · 22/11/2007 00:16

Holidaysqueen - good luck with your scan tomorrow. I'm also getting days when LO is doing somersaults and other days when it's quieter and also seems to coincide with having an achey tummy. I've put it down to the baby turning position and just lying awkwardly, hence the aches and the fact I can't feel much. Last night though it was going absolutely mad - my tummy looked like something out of a tom & jerry cartoon with the mouse running under a rug and getting that ripple effect (iykwim).

doup76 · 22/11/2007 07:30

Good Morning to all you beautiful blossoming ladies!

I haven't been on for a while but have been catching up on this, and the old thread! Thanks for starting the new one!

MoM - if you want a cheap alternative to Gaviscon, ask your pharmacist for Magnesium Trisilicate. You have to mix it up with water but it only costs £1 a bottle!!!!
My reflux got so bad that the doctor prescribed me Zantac, but at least us preggers ladies get free prescriptions !

Anyone checked out that christmas thread with all those websites? It's excellent.... I am off to start surfing....I now know my credit card details off by heart !

merryberry · 22/11/2007 08:37

oooh, mumofmonsters, i know here in camden women get the petrol tanker sized bottles of gaviscon on prescription from gps, just ask. don't suffer in burping, milky well i can't really call it silence, can I? ;)

i'm doing the natalhypnotherapy.co.uk stuff again. tis magic, worked a treat last time. there's a set of 4 cd's for pre-during and post birth for 50 quid from amazon (again, these hold fab resale value) which i've now got. or you can buy them seperately. last itme i only had the birth prep one, it was lent me and is for use from about 32 weeks onwards. did the trick very well.

i've also got sitting here a cd freebie from them which was in pregnancy magazine. this is just the pre-natal relaxation exercises, not the birth prep. anyone want it? mail me at frankylever @ hotmail dot com (with no spaces, first come first served).

spugs · 22/11/2007 09:31

fitnforty - they test your iron levels and for antibodies at 28 weeks because im rh neg i get the joy of an anti d injection which apparently stings like a bugger i hate injections.

i havent been given my mat b form or the little card for free dental treatment etc (or are they the same thing?) is tthe mat b form the one you need to start claiming smp?

at my check up they asked me about having a home birth as i had said i was interested. cant make my mind up though, the hospital is literally at the end of my street but i worry about something going wrong

HolidaysQueen · 22/11/2007 09:48

spugs - the matb1 is the one you need for work/maternity allowance etc. and i think you have received it by around 24-26 weeks. I think the MatEx card you should have got early on which gives you free prescriptions is the one you use for dental [HQ remembers she needs to book a dentist appt before her teeth fall out!]

preggersagain · 22/11/2007 09:58

morning, i haven't progressed to gaviscon yet- just antacid tablets and extra strong mints atm- its working ok so far! I hate the taste of gaviscon so i tend to put it off for as long as possible!

Well, i checked the car seats in the car yesterday, i can fit two small pink babies in two pink car seats in the back along with possibly another child, and one of the dt's can sit in the front. We looked into getting a seven seater but i have refused to change my car -dh may well end up with a grand voyager.

I have also got my icandy pear at last- its fab, those of you having twins its well worth a look- can have two seats/carrycots/maxi-cosi's or any combination of the above. That will be my 'car pram' as i can get the frame out and chuck the car seats on it to get from car to wherever (work mainly!!) then take twins out when i get there. Also means that i can have maxi-cosi seats with the bases- can't be doing with flaffing about strapping two seats in each time especially as i have ridiculously short seat belts

Those of you with chilled out babies who are not battering you to pieces can we swap for a day? i think i'm bruised from the inside- they never stop!

Also is anyone else itchy- not on my bump but legs, feet and hands- given myself a bruise from scratching my legs!

ClaphamLauren · 22/11/2007 10:48

Oooh hypnotherapy. I'm going to start yoga in central London I think, although in an ideal world I would like to go in Surrey. Is anyone else looking to do yoga in the west end? Here is link to one of them

ClaphamLauren · 22/11/2007 10:53

Also, is anyone else doing a baby book? J and I have just got some really pretty plain books to do our own one as we (by we I mean he) weren't too keen on the ones in the shop.

Now we're trying to think of things to fill it up with! I am sure this is first timer naivety that I think I will ever bother adding to it once she is born but it's a good idea. I would love it if I had one, even if it wasn't complete!

Very jealous of all your pink bits preggers, I'm banned from buying anything until we move after Xmas

e14mum · 22/11/2007 10:57

oooh... itchy legs here! I was giving myself brusies by scratching a month or two ago, but thankfully it's calmed down. I got 2 big bottles of Oilatum bath oil from the gp and that helps a lot (and smells quite nice too!).

I am taking myself to the dentist on Friday- had the same thought as you last week HQ!

I know this sounds really dumb, but what does heartburn feel like? Woke up in the middle of the night feeling like I wanted to punch myself in the chest- had to get up and walk around for ages. Ate some yogurt which seemed to help. I had had a late, spicy dinner. Is that heartburn? Yuk if so.

HolidaysQueen · 22/11/2007 11:19

Hi Lauren -
I've been trying to keep a pregnancy diary (tend to go a week with daily updates then nothing for about a month!) and am thinking of making it into a proper baby book - add in scan photos etc. - and then try to continue with it while the baby is little. I think it would be great to try and record all their milestones - I really wish I had one rather than having to rely on my parents' now dodgy memories...

doup76 · 22/11/2007 11:45

e14mum - yes sounds like you had a bit of indigestion there. I sleep with rennie by the bed, it's the easiest thing to take while still half asleep!

By the way, was it you with the achy hips?

monthlymayhem · 22/11/2007 12:42

Hi Ladies

Have had a very exciting morning as my wee brother and his wife had a little baby boy this morning, so I'm now an Auntie

Unbelieveably they were with us for dinner at my Mum and Dads last night, left about 11pm with SIL having a few niggly tummy pains..they called the hospital as she had some bleeding at 2am and they told her to come in. Turns out she was fully dilated and had the baby at 6am! How lucky to have such a quick labour for a first baby! And just one day overdue.

Going to see them tonight and can't wait

gingercat12 · 22/11/2007 12:43

Hi, I am back. I also had a bad cold and stomach bug, but LO helped me through it. He was so gentle, but continuously active, so I would not go absolutely paranoid.

We have just purchased a second-hand travel cot, so will soon pick it up. I hope it'll be all right. It seemed so beautiful.

imjin100 · 22/11/2007 12:54

MM, how exciting, and congratulations all round - an envious labour! Here's hoping for all of us
Gingercat glad you are better and glad LO behaved!
was HQ's scan today or is it tomorrow - I have lost track?
hope all ok with everyone. I saw an osteopath this morning in the hope of sorting my back, it's helped so far as I have yet to lie on the floor but time will tell - come 9pm I'm in agony which isn't ideal on the basis that we've been out every night this week and lying on the floor in a restaurant can mean some strange looks...and rather grubby clothes!
happy days to all.

PS i love being pregnant - just sharing that with you all!

Brazilianmum · 22/11/2007 13:01

We are now the proud owners of a Xplory. Someone mentioned on this thread about this girl selling one she won in a competition, so I got in touch and we bough it. Came with a baby bag as well but no sleeping bag. Preggers - I need your advice, or anyone with Xplory. The sleeping bag for the carry cot retails at £69 for the Stokke one. Is there a cheaper option anywhere?

LO is moving a lot today after a quiet day yesterday. A bit worried at the moment as saw the MW a few weeks back and she detect blood in urine, but have heard nothing. Went to GP this week and he found protein. GP said he wasn't informed by the hospital so sent off another sample for analyses, so I have to go back next week for results. Hope it's nothing too bad.

ClaphamLauren · 22/11/2007 13:14

Hurrah BrazilianMum - Glad the link was of use to you, it looked such a great opportunity! If I hadn't already had my Xplory I would have bought that one. Was it the turquoisey colour? That's the colour of mine.

I refuse to spend £69 on a foot muff, seems like a rip off to be honest! You need the one for the carrycot and for the pushchair seat which is £140 on foot muffs! I WILL find an alternative. It's effectively just a fleecy blanket!

Brazilianmum · 22/11/2007 13:24

It's the turquoise one like yours. All in the box brand new. Very exciting. The couple selling were really nice and did a full demo for us.

I know sleeping bag + foot muff is so expensive. The girl I bought it from said O'baby does a cheaper version of the foot muff but unfortunately they don't do a cheap version of the sleeping bag.
