MrsMcJnr · 21/11/2007 16:48

Fluffy ? mine?s not packed either but this was just for fun sorry you are feeling crap by the way you gave me the giggles about wiggle your bum stuff ? how funny would that be to have the car ad music?! ? liking the thought of a bit of Guns?n?Roses ? ?Sweet child of mine? would be appropriate and there are good groany bits too ? Aerosmith?s ?I don?t want to miss a thing? or ?Crazy? maybe? I can just see me singing along to some RHCP too oh how I love Princess Bride I?ve also got ?About last night?, ?The Breakfast Club? and ?St Elmo?s Fire? on my DVD list ? such an 80s chick!

Susiemj ? can?t get on eBay from here but will post on here for you tomorrow with a link as I am working from home

Have a work function tonight ? yawn so won?t get back until 9 and have to stand about talking and trying to pretend that I am interested in something other than babies

madmouse · 21/11/2007 17:08

Hope not to need my iPod, but use DH's top notch sound system in the living room. I used to dance lots (jazz, ballet, ballroom the lot) so I will use some ridiculously old stuff (Lasso the moon by Level 42 anyone)that will help me move those hips and move my whole body instinctively. Ever seen that dancing hippo in the Disney christmas cartoon . Except I won't be wearing a tutu I hope.

The Lord of the Rings extended DVD box set including the making of will have to see me through boring hours, I have only seen the whole thing oooh, six times (selected parts rather more than that . I saw Princess Bride recently for the first time and I can see why it would be nice and distracting but not too taxing.

mixedmama · 21/11/2007 17:24

Hmmm... might watch Gone With The Wind... that will kill some time and I lurrrvvvee the film. Or Scarface, my impression of Tony Montana has DH in stitches... that should take my mind off the contractions.

mixedmama · 21/11/2007 17:25

Music- hmmmm. I am generally into Turkish, Arabic and Indian music. Imagining a 40 week pregnant woman belly dancing around the living room...

OP posts:
fluffymummy · 21/11/2007 17:35

MadMouse - a good friend of mine decided to watch the boxed set of LOTR to distract her from contractions whilst her DH was sleeping...she was already 9cm when she got to the hospital and was home 6 hours later!!! So on the one hand, a good thing, on the other, perhaps something a little less long, just in case?

MM - bellydancing would be good for the pelvic floors and tummy muscles Ok, maybe not actually during labour, but what a fab way to get back into shape afterwards

gingeme · 21/11/2007 17:45

Afternoon ladies. I have quickly flicked through the thread. Glad you are all ok.

fluffymummy · 21/11/2007 17:57

Glad the mw check went well too

OK, its nearly 6pm and I'm being utterly unproductive, so am going to call it a day and head off home at a normal time for a change

Hope you all have lovely evenings and a good night's sleep, see you tomorrow xx

LuckySalem · 21/11/2007 19:24

Afternoon all,

I'm here, sold 3 games on EBAY. Was thinking I might put some of the others on mumsnet but don't think its something mumsnet would want to sell. LOL.

I'm so bored and can't think of anything to say other than.

Hope baby's are ok and so are mummies.

Oh and congrats on the car!!

LuckySalem · 21/11/2007 20:12

BEWARE LUCKY RANT!!

I've had my mum on the phone who is insisting that I call her at the first sign of labour so she can meet me at the hospital. I've said there's no point in doing that as I'm not going straight in and I don't want her to be coming round here when i'm in labour. I get naggy enough if I stub my toe, don't want to nag at her.

The reply I got back was, "you're going to get such a shock when you're in labour, it's not easy and if something goes wrong you'll never forgive yourself"

I mean I know she's trying to say what's best for me but FGS!! how does that help?

I had a magazine from the NCT classes that said you can change your mind at any time if you want to have a homebirth but have booked hospital that's fine.

I stupidly said this to mum and she went off on one "homebirths are a waste of money, what if there isn't enough staff? your going to make them send 1 maybe 2 more people out to you?"

Ended up saying fine, i'll go into hospital but I want out ASAP. Mum's reply? "how are you going to get any sleep if you go home? or BF?"

ARGH!!

LilyLoo · 21/11/2007 20:17

Lucky what a nightmare.
As for the what if there aren't enough midwives then surely it's better that you are at home wher your guaranteed one. That's part of the reason i opting for homebirth this time.
As for the sleeping tbh the first night with ds who i breast fed until he was 8 months was a doddle. He was so exhausted and so was i we both had a great nights sleep.
A midwife will come round the very next day so can help with any bfeeding probs.
Don't know why she is telling you all the worst case scenarios, although agree she probably trying to do whats best for you, but you will know instinctively whats best for you and baby.

LuckySalem · 21/11/2007 20:32

Thanks Lilly.
I don't know whats up with her. The other day she said that DP should be walking to work now (3 miles) so that I can have the car in case I go into labour and can't reach him at work. I've said we've got a fool proof system (tannoy system at DP's work) and he'll get home but worst case scenario I'll get an ambulance. "Do you know it costs £200 per mile in an ambulance?" sorry but i don't care how much it costs an ambulance, its better than DP walking to work at 10pm at night and home a 7am!! ARGH!
I just want to be left to my own doings.!

LilyLoo · 21/11/2007 20:34

doesn't sound as if you can win this one. I would just do your own thing as you cannot plan your birth around the lack of staff or the expense of ambulances in the nhs !

sabinar · 21/11/2007 20:35

eh. Lucky... deep breaths! How frustrating.

I have to say my immediate reaction would be to tell my mum to butt out and respect my decisions or else risk being excluded. If she can't let you do things your way, then you don't have to keep her informed with what is going on, do you?

I'm biased of course, because I'm planning a home birth, but I certainly think you should make your OWN decision on this, and not be bullied into it by your mum. It's you and your LO who has to live through and with the experience, not your mum.

Things have changed since when she was having babies - I know she's your mum and all, but she's saying some pretty silly stuff and not being v supportive. Stay strong and stick to your guns.

LuckySalem · 21/11/2007 20:38

The thing is I can't really respect her POV cos she had a planned C section with me (blood disorder) so its not like she knows what its like. Same with BFing, she never did it!

I'm trying my hardest to not say anything about it to her at the mo, just thought i'd better make sure she didn't turn up at the hospital hours before me! although might be interesting. lol

Angechica · 21/11/2007 20:39

anyone here ... avoiding the football? I do actually like football, even used to work for a club for a while when I lived in London, but tonight it's one of those games you can hardly bear to watch, so I'm just dipping in.

Midwife yesterday, glucose was hitting +4 - a record! , she phoned up then and there and got me in for a GTT on Friday as she says I am also starting to measure big for dates. She has done my fundal height the last 4 or 5 visits. She and the student feel me every time and tell me what is where! She also wrote me as 3/5 engaged! Scary.

So got parentcraft all morning tomorrow and then all day off Friday (bunking off to get my hair done in the afternoon!), leaves one more week!

Am feeling a lot happier, after a 2 month freeze, "relations" are back on it seems .

LuckySalem · 21/11/2007 20:42

Angechica - I've just seen a thread that makes me think that I don't want DP to watch it tomorrow. He's in bed and i'm taping it for him to watch in the morning.

ayrshirelolo · 21/11/2007 20:49

Evening ladies!
Wow, what a lot to catch up on! Not even gonna try to say hi to everyone, so i'll just do a general wave to everyone (lolo waving madly at you all...) and type the stuff i can remember (read most of the last 5 pages at work, but didn't have time to post, now at home but too tired to go through again to see who said what... sorry!)
Raspberry leaf tea... oops! didn't mean to be controvertial! When i said it worked for me i don't think it induced labour in any way at all, but think i probably got through the first bit reasonably quickly (had to go to hospital as waters had broken and in lots of pain, but dilated fast for a first one!)and i have always believed that it does indeed tone up the muscles in your uterus, making contractions more efficient... and the stuff you get in Holland and Barrett tastes very fruity, it's also bright red! and quite nice cold too, as long as you leave the bag in long enough!
Birth plans... hmmmmm.... sincerely hope everyone gets the birth they want, but in my very limited experience the whole thing wasn't anything like the way i had intended and expected to give birth... my bp went sky high and i ended up being monitored (and therefore static) throughout, and the consultant recommended an epidural to lower the bp. I had no idea that was going to happen, as i had planned to labour actively, give birth in a midwife led unit with no intervention, limited pain relief etc and ended up in an operating theatre with an epidural and the forceps fairy! Gas and air made me throw up (who knew? used to be a 20 a day girl too! thought i could inhale anything!)And the point of this long story is that.... it really didn't matter. The idea is to deliver a healthy little person and be ok yourself, and as long as that happens it really doesn't matter how it goes! My advice would be just to read as much as possible so that you can understand the issues, choices etc and listen to your own body and the people around you at the time, whether they be partners, midwives or whatever! Sorry if that sounds like i'm slagging off birth plans... not at all!! Just think that we should all be prepared for things not to go entirely to plan!
As far as music goes, i had a whole load of stuff looked out last time, and then didn't take it to hospital as just wanted to get there NOW and forgot! but will again try and get organised with some nice chilled Crowded House, swinging Robbie, bit of UB40, some silly disco and anything else i can fit onthe MP3 player! Last time i remember watching a footie match after the epidural, not really in a state to do much before!
Fluffy/Mrs McJ/Angelkg77 yes, Grassroots at 4 sounds groovy next tuesday... how will i recognise you? Might you be the seriously preggy ladies? MrsMcJ Grassroots is on Woodlands Road, just off Charing cross if that helps... nearish Kelvinbridge tube station? or St george's cross might be nearer... i'll check! Bit of a hike from George square though, especially in uncomfortable shoes / pissing wet Glasgow weather!
Gingeme glad you've got new car! We've had ours 6 months and it still feels new and fab... but it might not after the MOT!!
Oh well, only got 3 more weeks and 1 day at work... although told today we are moving offices 1 week before i leave , so i'll just have sorted out my computer, phone, files etc before i go.... feels weird!!
Anyway folks, didn't intend this to be so long winded, but i'm a chatty little lolo when i get going!
Sleep well, lolo x

katyt1 · 21/11/2007 21:02

angechica - glad you have got a gtt appt throug, tho it sounds like you could/should have had one a while back? enjoy the yummy drink, not!

gingeme - congrats on the car
oh and what double buggy did you go for?
think i am getting one off a friend of a friend for 50quid. was hoping to spend less but hey. she is looking at it for me then will get back to me so i don't know the brand yet.

um, music, last time i had a cd recorded of fave slow, calming songs that i played lots through pg, then basically put on repeat during labour. every time they/dh asked if i wanted something else i said no, just play that again. there were only about 10 songs on it and 19hrs labour, think they may have got fed up by the end
this time hoping to get dh on the case with his zen (ipod like machine that i don't understand). or just have a pile of cds in the kitchen handy, my cds that is not his, vengaboy-fan that he is !!!

as for clothes, know it's silly but i'm a bit of a prude so i kept a t-shirt on the whole time in the pool and out. dh kept bringing me a fresh dry one every now and then. i just couldn't feel comfortable naked.

lucky - hope you can bite your tongue with your mum cos there doesn't seem to be much common ground. as for the cost to the nhs, so what?!?!?! it's about you and baby fgs. hmph.

footie - rubbish so far...

sabinar · 21/11/2007 21:26

ooh, just remembered something funny that happened today. I had lunch with a client that I've been working with for the past few months. We've met in person quite a few times but I've never specifically mentioned that I was pregnant. Today she was telling me about this 10 day detox diet she's been doing and how tough it's been to give up the wine... I joked that I'd been on an 8 month detox diet, and she didn't get the joke. Turns out she hadn't noticed I was pregnant... apparently my floppy tops had been extremely effective disguise!

Just accidentally switched on the football and DH has gone from yawning and talking about heading to bed to sitting on the edge of the sofa yelling at the TV - now I'm the one yawning and thinking of bed ;)

Quick question - do you think I should be concerned if I have virtually no appetite at the moment? I'm putting it down to the fact that I'm not being v active right now because of my ankle (which is still screwed, although hopefully getting a little better), but I really have hardly any desire to eat at the moment. This is seriously out of character for me (even pre-pregnancy) - I was certain I'd be working the 'eating for two' excuse like crazy... but apparently not.

gingeme · 21/11/2007 22:02

Evening ladies.
ayrshirelolo my double buggy is called a twin citi trouper. No Ive never heard of it either but its fab. Cant wait till Jan and I can try it our for real.
sabiner Im the same I have had no apetite at all. Been snacking through today but usualy by 6pm Im ravenous but I made dinner for us all and didnt touch mine.
Didnt watch the football left that to dh but judging by the comments he was shouting Im glad I didnt.
Luckysalem your Mum sounds like a nightmare. Mind you I still remember the cutting comment my Mum made when I had a mc just before ds3, bearing in mind I have 4 boys, 'that baby you lost would probably have been your girl!. cheers Mum.
Has anyone heard from fruitful lately? Hope shes ok.
Well off to bed now. Been a busy abd exciting day.
Night all xxxx

MrsBiscuit · 22/11/2007 09:00

Oh whoops. I've got myself into a bit of a pickle. It's dh's Christmas do in a couple of weeks, up in Suffolk so about 3 hours drive from where we are.
He was going to drive back on Monday night, but I've just clicked that I've got NCT class so will have to be back earlier. He's got a meeting which can't be moved so I'm going to have to drive the whole way back myself. I'd just about convinced myself that I didn't want to go -have to find a new dress + new shoes, feel like a hippo etc - but he's organised rooms, tickets and to be on the colonel's table. So how am I going to do a 3 hour drive when the 45 minute commute to work is getting less and less bearable..
Sorry, bit long.

Katyt1 - I have a zen too!

Gingeme - congrats on the car. No-one wants to buy mine still so we can't upgrade yet .

Lucky - how annoying. Do what you think best and trust your instincts. Don't give a hoot about the cost to the NHS - enough is wasted on trivial things, and getting an ambulance is not trivial! If it gets you to hospital safely, it's worth every penny.

susiemj · 22/11/2007 09:37

Morning all. A quick post.

Lucky, I didn't get the impression that having a home birth was an expensive thing for the NHS, so I think your mum's just wrong there. I Agree with Sabinar - a bit of line drawing might not go amiss at this point. I say this because I know i should do it with my own mother but can't bring myself to (she's very fragile, physically and mentally - emotionally she's a bloody whirlwind). Have you thought that she is perhaps jealous of you? (your young and fertile and going through all those exciting times). I have felt this at times with my mum. I think it makes the case even more clearly for making it clear that if she doesn't treat you with respect, she's out of it.

Fortunately my mum had a huge blow up at me recently, and then realised I was pregnant (duh) and realised she was risking a lot (when i made it clear to her) and has been uncharacteristically nice since. Not convinced it will last.

God! I've no idea if that made sense!

Think I'll go and have a cup of tea after that!

Hello to everyone else!

susiemj · 22/11/2007 09:39

MrsBiscuit - I don't suppose there's someone you could catch a lift with? Is a train and a taxi an idea? Hotel overnight after the do?

Amani · 22/11/2007 09:56

Morning ladies,
Just skimmed read all post

Sabinar - I go through phases of having a huge appetite to no appetite, so maybe it might be a phase for you too?

Gingeme - Enjoy your car!

Angechia - hope everything is ok with your GD
Susimj - parents are sometimes strange beings.

I've just come into work and found out that I have to go to an Executive meeting on the afternoon of my last day. and have to give my boss a lift to place where the meeting is held (great - so she'll see my crappy driving/parking skills).

MrsBiscuit · 22/11/2007 10:05

Susiemj - we're staying up on the Saturday night, so that's not a problem it's just the prospect of such a long drive and the ensuing pelvic aches. It's a tortuous journey by train/taxi but I might have another think about it.
