Helloooooo????

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Emma81 · 21/11/2007 12:18

Madmouse- I didn't know there was a Feb thread! I've just joined today so i went on the active threads to speak to people. I'm not working at the mo, which is lovely as I'm not stressed but it can be really boring. Still I'd rather that than marking till 10pm each night as I used to!

fluffymummy · 21/11/2007 12:20

Tesco baby/kids clothes are brilliant, and have generally been fantastic quality and amazing value.

Before DS was born I bought all the 0-3 month (thank goodness I didn't buy 'newborn' - he'd never have fitted!! ) stuff like sleepsuits and vests from Mothercare. We were also given lots of lovely stuff from John Lewis and Gap...It took me a few months to discover Tesco baby stuff and a few more not to feel guilty about being a cheapskate mum and buying all his stuff from there, but its actually at least as good as anything else...and at 7 sleepsuits for a fiver, you can't really go wrong

Oh, and the ones that get really knackered from baby poo/sick etc make great dusters etc once you cut off the poppers!!

So even though DS's first winter coat came from GAP (bought by his adoring parents at 6 weeks, for (eek!!) £35...although it was used for 5 months), the next one won't be getting any such treatment

MrsMcJnr · 21/11/2007 12:21

Naetha - wow you are brave reading those, I get freaked from just reading the childbirth threads!

fluffymummy · 21/11/2007 12:25

Hehe...the Tesco clothes thing was a response to Susie's post, which is already half way down the page...I was sure it only took me a few minutes to write it but now it looks really random!!!!

Naetha - don't look!!! Ignorance is still bliss

susiemj · 21/11/2007 12:35

Hi MrsMc - I agree with you - any kind of opiates seem less than desirable. Apparently a water birth, in the experienceof my MW, often means less chemical pain relief and less tearing - but I'd be going for it anyway. I guess I'll take the opiates if I really need it. I may not give birth - the final bit - in the water but I am so lucky that the MWs here seem ready for anything: getting in, out, walking round. They have their own bean bags and birthing balls which you can ask to have brought in. So i think I'll probably do a bit of all of these. What the MWs here do say is that they never have anyone lying down any more for the final bit because they let women do what they want and they don't want to. On all fours seems a popular option! I'm not over the moon about our facilities either as rooms etc. They're very 'hospital'. When I went in I really felt that I didn't want to spend much time there. But the ward seldom seems to be busy and they do seem to have enough friendly and well-informed staff so I think I'm very lucky. Hoping ambience isn't everything!

Katy - the clicking deffo sounds like SPD. Do you know what I mean by the rolling thing? It really helps, as does keeping your pelvis straight in various ways , such as pillows when you're on the sofa. Basically so you're not twisting. Go for the physiotherapy girdle if you can! SPD honestly DOES NOT hurt at all whilst you're wearing it. Makes DH look pale though!

Emma - Capricorns good! My Dad is one and three of my oldest friends. Hope she doesn't get overdue and become an aquarius

Amani Go girl!

Emma81 · 21/11/2007 12:54

If mine is due on 9th Feb it'll be an Aquarius- like me! My poor Scorpian husband!

susiemj · 21/11/2007 12:58

Ooo. When does Aquarius start? I thought Capricorn went up to the 22nd? Poor Scorpio - pooh! My DH is Scorpio and it seems to be a license to get away with being ruthlessly charming!

Emma81 · 21/11/2007 13:01

Aquarius starts on my birthday- 21st Jan. What are you? And what does DH stand for? I guess its something husband

MrsMcJnr · 21/11/2007 13:08

Ladies I am a Capricorn 29/12 (was due 18/1) DH is an Aquarian 13/2 ? needless to say, I?d like a Capricorn not another stubborn aquarian to live with Funnily enough, MIL is a Capricorn and FIL an Aquarian - DH was quite late so could have been a Capricorn

madmouse · 21/11/2007 13:15

Emma, before we confuse you complete with our DP, DH, LO, DS1, DD etc , they are standard acronyms on this site and you can check them out by clicking 'acronym list' towards the top of this page behind 'useful stuff'.

xx

katyt1 · 21/11/2007 13:19

hey aquarians unite - we are fab!!!
hadn't thought about it before but most likely this will be too. does that mean it will be as stubborn as me, eek!

thanks susie for the advice, i have started using extra pillows at night and trying to sit on my (new) ball as much as poss, but i have always been comfy sitting corss legged and i just can't do that or at least i can but then i can't move!

oh, and def go for the cheaper baby clothes, tesco, sainsburys, george, etc. mothercare are rip off central! but always fun to shop there
get relatvies to buy the expensive stuff, but keep the labels on until you are actually putting it on so yu can take it back and change for a bigger size as your baby amazes you with its' growth

also next sales are brill.
oh and i got some vests & sleepsuits from argos (yes argos!) that are on special offer that are good and neutral.

susiemj · 21/11/2007 13:27

Sounds like Capricorns and Aquarians get on then, MrsMc. Sounds good to me, although like everyone else, I'm hoping for an early bean!

I'm a Cancerian, Katy, and have always vowed I'd have a summer baby so it could have presents every 6 months, like me. Good plan... January baby

madmouse · 21/11/2007 14:07

Ahhh, my also pregnant assistant just told me that she has collected money for my going-on-maternity-leave present and she asked if i wanted vouchers, or money or something else? Well, to be honest, the only thing I still need to buy is a pricey push chair and some money will come in really handy for that, plus I will use it everyday and think of my lovely colleagues. I think some of them wanted to buy baby clothes but the clever girl stopped them .I am getting some lovely asian food in for my colleagues on my last day (I am not asian but working where I work you get a taste for real samosas and pakoras and you never look back .

Amani · 21/11/2007 14:23

I've been asked what I want as a leaving present too and feel a bit wierd about telling people what I'd like.

Madmouse - you've inspired me! I've been umming and ahhing over what to do on my last day, we've got so many Xmas meals going on, so didn't want have a leaving meal. Think I might do the same have a little office 'do'.

tripletsandtwins · 21/11/2007 14:29

Hello all! How are you all doing? So sorry that I disappeared again, I might actually be able to keep up with you now though!

I'm on strict bedrest until these little darlings get here, only allowed bathroom priviligies I'm going to be completely insane before the dts even get here.

I went to the hospital just after I posted last. They're not sure what was wrong with me, I've had every test known to mankind done and so they've concluded it was all in my head! [frustrated emotion] On Tylenol now, which is helping the pain somewhat thankfully.

I'm having weekly CTG's done now though, and both dts are looking great, no sign of distress to either babe, but they've picked up that I'm actually contracting every few minutes -so much for Braxton Hicks! They're mildly painful, but I hadn't even noticed them due to the pain I was in . I'm not dilating thankfully, so MW thinks I have an irritable uterus.

Both my MW and OB have advised me to be ready to go into labor at any time ? they expect that I will deliver somewhere in between 32-36 weeks, and I'm now 32 weeks...

Anyway, enough of me moaning! I just need to wait for MrsMcJnr to arrive so I can catch up and then keep up for once!

MrsMcJnr · 21/11/2007 14:33

Tripletsandtwins you are out of luck, I did a big catch up yesterday and am now up to date so no big catch up from me! sorry to hear about the bedrest that must be so hard with your 3 little ones, glad to hear the babies are doing well though wonder if you'll be first to pop on here then stay well x

madmouse · 21/11/2007 14:36

tripletsandtwins glad to see you, I just posted yesterday asking where you were. The last post said something about pain in your side and your little twin moving less, so I was quite worried!

Are you managing the bed rest? I hope you can keep them in until 36 weeks. Can't you have salbutamol to stop the contractions? (what do I know, not a doctor).

Happy to hear you are still pregnant

mixedmama · 21/11/2007 15:11

Afternoon all,

Great discusssions on here this morning/afternoon.

Had my MW appointment and would you believe after all my moaning yesterday she was absolutely brilliant and changed woman. I was in there for over half an hour. BP is rising but not high so she said we just need to keep an eye on it, urine sent off as there seems to be an infection of some sort, she was concerned about swelling of my feet but again is just going to monitor for the moment. Baby not engaged but head down andd sahe said he is tall which explains feet in my ribs. Told her iron tablets made me sick and was now on spatone and she said that is what she would have suggested. Seeing her in two weeks where we are goign to go through the birth plan so feel much better about the whole thing.

MrsMcJnr · 21/11/2007 15:14

Glad all went well MM

Amani · 21/11/2007 15:15

Good to hear all went well. Did she measure your bump aswell?

madmouse · 21/11/2007 15:17

great MM, you needed that

mixedmama · 21/11/2007 15:18

No she didnt but she had a good feel and then commented on him being tall (so was DS1) so I figured that she could tell from feeling alot.... altho I must admit i forgot to ask as well about fundal height... no plotting on chart for me, but since there seems to be alot discussion about the accuracy and then the fact that it is based on only certain races of children I suppose it isnt the end of the world esp as we live in a very very multiculturaal area. Have made a note to mention it in two weeks tho so i can hear why she doesnt do it.

MrsMcJnr · 21/11/2007 15:51

Jeez I?m struggling this afternoon, so much to do and yet I can?t get my brain to work very quiet on here!

Let me see what discussions can I stir up?.. .. I know ? talk me through early labour until you go to hospital/get down to business ? do you have a plan of action? Favourite films? Brownie making? the ironing? A bath or several?

Or, do you know what your baby will be wearing home from hospital? How about you?

Or, what are you planning to wear in labour? On the ward?

Or, what?ll be on your birth ipod playlist? I?m trying to think of my favourite songs of all time, the most motivating ones and also some silly ones that?ll make me laugh ? here are a few of mine to get you going: ?Pray? Take That, ?Rain? Madonna, ?Mary?s Prayer? Danny Wilson, ?Raspberry Beret? Prince, ?The Gambler? Kenny Rogers

fluffymummy · 21/11/2007 16:09

I'm so not in the mood to work today...actually, I feel like I'm sleepwalking through the afternoon - that's the combined result of back pain, leg cramps and cold last night Knackered now! And I wish my back would stop hurting- that brace thing doesn't seem to make much difference

Triplets&twins - great to hear from you hon...sorry you're on enforced bed rest, but just keep on doing what the nice people in white coats say

MrsMc - I've not even thought about packing my bag, let alone music for the blinkin' ipod!!! But probably some bouncey rocky stuff to keep a smile on my face (Oasis, Aerosmith, Guns'n'Roses, Sisters of Mercy), some chilled drum'n'bass/trance (Kruder and Dorfmeister), lots of funky wiggle your bum stuff and some super chilled, mellow stuff like William Orbit. Oh and maybe some agressive industrial/techno/metal (Empirium, Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against the Machine) for when I need distracting!!! Oh, and some Red Hot Chilli Peppers...and....

Gosh, I wish writing my 'things I need for hospital' and 'things I need for newborn' lists were as easy.... Time to go back and search the 'get your bags packed' thread for inspiration, methinks...!

Steadily eating my way through a huge family bag of M&Ms, after an enormous cheese and pickle bap, an Innocent smoothie, 2 apples and a satsuma - and thats after a late breakfast of Quaker Oats and 2 biscotti! Ok, I should really post that on Awen's thread...just can't stop eating today

If I manage to avoid being induced this time, then I intend to spend as long at home as possible....general plan involves bubble baths and the Princess Bride on repeat, but realistically I'll get all nest-y so will probably end up doing mass bake-a-thon

Ok, I really am going to do some work now...I am, I am, I am....maybe....

susiemj · 21/11/2007 16:16

Hey MrsMc - I've just been looking for those dark blue nighties on ebay. I can't find them. Any tips?

Sorry about bedrest, Triplets and Twins. Fingers crossed for 36 weeks for you.

Glad things went better with MW, MM!
