I've bought the cheeky wipes set with the clean and mucky box, and it seems really practical - but a couple of months yet until I can comment properly! I also use reusable make up wipes which feel lovely and soft on my face.

Thanks @PurplePansy05, re the MATB1. I had called the GP as they're much closer and irritatingly they said on the phone they had forms which they could do for me so I popped out and when I got there they didn't have any in - luckily I needed petrol anyway so not a totally wasted trip, but a pain nonetheless. Hopefully the midwife will be more reliable!

lucyrp · 27/04/2021 18:49

@PurplePansy05 I am not normally able to sit down for periods of time at work but today I managed to grab a chair and sit down whilst it was quiet and had quite a few belly movements the kicks were that strong so panic over for now 😅xx

PurplePansy05 · 27/04/2021 18:58

Aww good @lucyrp, glad you started to feel more again. Deffo the right thing to sit down in peace for a bit today, glad your manager was helpful. It can be so worrying, I've had the same issue several times and it's not a nice feeling at all. Hopefully they'll be very active every day from now on! I am normally sat down for most of the day and what I find makes him move every time is when I lift one leg, bend it and put my foot on a chair close to me and next to my pelvis (which I tend to do as I wriggle a lot), I think this possibly makes him rearrange himself. Not sure, but I've noticed he always moves after that.

@biscuitcat No worries! Annoying they didn't have them! My GP surgery has run out too but the MW had a block of them in her diary, she just pulled one out for me. Hopefully you'll get yours asap 😊 xx

LyraShaeLilly · 27/04/2021 19:20

Anyone think the trip trap chair is worth the expense?

lucyrp · 27/04/2021 19:25

@PurplePansy05 I kind of knew I didn't need to worry because I'd felt gurgles but it still wasn't reassuring enough. Was glad to see my belly moving with the kicks again. As I am writing this they've just given me a big kick too🥰

Smurf123 · 27/04/2021 19:51

@LyraShaeLilly yup definitely we love our trip trapp! We got ours second hand from,Gumtree for ds and it's fantastic. We used the tray and baby set when he was smaller now at 3 he just sits on it at the table like a regular chair but so easy to adjust the height to suit and it's not big and bulky.
My mum loved it so much she ended up getting another second hand one for her house for him too.
We are thinking of getting the baby carrier seat for it for this baby so they can be up at the table too at meal times. We didn't have it with ds as he either played on his mat or sat in his pram for the few months until he was big enough to sit up in the chair but we now have a 1 year old cockapoo pup so might be good to have something up higher for this one when we are eating.

BertieBotts · 27/04/2021 19:52

@LyraShaeLilly

Anyone think the trip trap chair is worth the expense?
If you plan to keep it until your kid(s) are in their teens, and buy as many chairs as you have kids and buy the one that matches your decor, absolutely. It's really solidily made, it does fit them all the way through and it can fit into normal furniture like that really well. You can also get a lot of the accessories second hand and since you only use those for a shorter time that's worth doing as well. If you plan to keep the chairs in the long term I'd get those new.

If you don't want to do that and just want a highchair that does the job, no. Ikea Antilop is your friend. And that's the way we went. Or if you want one that grows with them/supports their feet but isn't as expensive, look at second hand tripp traps or the cheaper knock off versions like Hauck Alpha or the one Lidl does once a year. But the Stokke is the best if you actually want it to grow with them forever.

On another topic, I've just discovered this Youtuber who does labour/birth info videos, she is hilariously over-peppy, but her stuff seems really good! Worth watching if anyone is gearing up for birth stuff (apparently this is where my head is now).

PurplePansy05 · 27/04/2021 22:55

Oh gosh, I've just watched Baby Surgeons and absolutely bawled my eyes out 😭 It's about babies operated on/having procedures in the womb. Some stories brought up so many emotions, and the job these doctors do is incredible. If you feel like watching, do, but like I said, it's a very emotional watch right now. xx

alittlexmasmagic · 28/04/2021 06:55

@Ready2020 I've just seen your message about planning. That sounds like serious cock-up of your conveyancing solicitor when you bought it. Are you using the same one?x

Whatshouldbemyusername · 28/04/2021 07:23

@lucyrp I just saw your message about bubba movement 🥲. Am glad alls well x

Yesterday I had avocado on sourdough toast and right after that I had the most movement I've felt ever. Maybe baby likes avocado or sourdough or both 😃

I also went and got my bikini area waxed yesterday! Even though I can't see it now! Thank God everything is open.

Have a great Wednesday ladies and all those with appointments, have great ones listening to bubbas heartbeats x

LyraShaeLilly · 28/04/2021 07:50

Omg baby surgeons - I'm traumatised by the that lady with the twins.

If anyone wants to watch - make sure it's after your scan when you know everything is all ok!!!

PurplePansy05 · 28/04/2021 07:57

@LyraShaeLilly I know, me too. Some stories were so sad, but considering that these things really do happen (as we know from our examples on here), I think this is quite an eye opener about what life and pregnancy really can be and it's such a lottery. This should be a compulsory watch for all those people being dismissive, ignorant or lacking empathy, the world would be a better place if they've seen it. I don't think anyone can remain untouched by it.

But also how many amazing stories, it is absolutely incredible what the doctors can now achieve and it's great to see they saved so many little lives. The joy of these parents was truly indescribable ❤ xx

wimbler · 28/04/2021 09:49

we have the trip trapp and love it. I'd love to get another for #2 so we've got a matching pair but the ikea one is the only other high chair I'd actually buy.

omg the baby surgeons programme was heartbreaking and incredible all at the same time. Anne marie was so very brave to allow them to document all that they did and the doctor was so incredible but also humble and compassionate I thought. Agree a tough watch - I couldn't watch the c-section either. That's how my daughter was born and it just looked so brutal

LyraShaeLilly · 28/04/2021 11:33

I love the look of the trip trap, however its £400 for all the bits that we need/want. Plus another £200 once second child arrives?

BertieBotts · 28/04/2021 11:42

It's defo one for people who spend a lot on furniture and see it as an investment. Not my kind of lifestyle sadly :o I think our dining chairs were about £40 each from Ikea, but I know people do spend £200+ on dining chairs! So it must be worth it for someone.

You only really need the newborn set and base seat frame to start off with, so it's about £260 all together. Once you start weaning add the baby kit which is £80 - you don't need the harness, it's just a faff and annoying. You don't leave them unattended in a highchair anyway so it isn't really necessary. You could add the cushion, but IME it's just a pain to keep washing these things and we abandoned the cushion we got for our ikea one fairly quickly. You can also get third party cushions which fit it in loads of places and as you only really use it for the first couple of months of weaning before they can sit up confidently, it doesn't matter too much if it matches exactly. It will be smeared in carrot and weetabix all the time anyway.

Smurf123 · 28/04/2021 11:56

Have a look at Gumtree or fb marketplace. We got our chairs with the baby set for about £50. They are in great condition and you wouldn't know they were second hand. On really messy days it was so easy to hose it down outside!
We did use the cushion initially but quickly got rid of it due to the mess of weaning. In saying that it's washed up fine and is in the cupboard.

Caz1226 · 28/04/2021 12:09

Quick question everyone
This is my first baby so still trying to learn everything I need to
When ordering baby clothes how much are you getting in new size compared to say 0-3 months?

Daffodil21 · 28/04/2021 12:14

Nearly time for another thread ladies! Any volunteers? Happy to do it if not x

Carefree1 · 28/04/2021 13:05

Hi ladies, sorry I’ve been absent for a while, work has been crazy. Hope everyone’s well.

Interesting about the trip trap - I had a look as liked the idea of being able to sit with you at the table, but my god it’s expensive isn’t it!
@Caz1226 I’ll be following your responses - I literally have no idea what quantities I need of what. And so confusing with newborn, up to 1 month and 0-3 🤷‍♀️

PurplePansy05 · 28/04/2021 13:32

@Daffodil21 Go for it, we're at 995 on here now 😁

Just quickly on the clothes front, I read a number of opinions on here, articles online, some free webinars I've attended also covered this and I personally bought him:

  • roughly 15 vests (short sleeve and no legs), that will be his first layer
  • roughly the same amount of babygrows/sleepsuits (so long sleeve, long legs and feet), his second layer

in: newborn/First Size and the same number in 0-3.

We've also had some gifted clothes already in 0-1, 0-3 and also bigger, 3-6 or 6-9 etc. so technically he has more than 15 outfits for the early stage. I reckon that's plenty, probably more gifts will come too and in any event, it's always easy to order from M&S or pop to the supermarket. Some of the larger clothes we were given are also warmer (but still suitable for layering), thankfully our friends have figured out it will be winter by then.

The gifted clothes are usually sets as well which I doubt he'll be wearing daily, probably more so if we venture out for a visit somewhere/special occasion (maybe one day???).

On top of this, he has 5 cotton hats, some socks to go with the outfits (but not many, like a set maybe?), a pack of mittens and cardigans - so far one in newborn, one in 0-1, three in 0-3 and some more gifted in larger sizes. This will be his third layer.

Quite a few muslin cloths too and a couple of large ones for me to use as a bf cover.

I had loads in my Fb Marketplace bundle as you know, but some bits weren't in it so I bought some extras from M&S, Next, Sainsbury's and Aldi. All lovely cotton, very happy with the quality of all of them.

I won't be buying more till he's bigger, I hope, probably once he hits 3-6 months. xx

Daffodil21 · 28/04/2021 13:44

@PurplePansy05 I'm on it! Currently searching through this thread to update girls/boys (you can tell I'm no longer working!)

Can we leave space at the end of the is thread so I can link it when I've made it pls x

PurplePansy05 · 28/04/2021 13:47

www.madeformums.com/reviews/what-size-baby-grows-buy-for-newborn/

I thought this article was quite useful. Plus just to be clear I am not the type of person to stick the washing machine on every day, hoping to do so twice a week max if I can! Just too much hassle otherwise, personally! So having a few extra pieces is something we chose to do and we'll hopefully keep them in good condition for DC2. xx

I've tried to update 💙 or 💖 but sorry if I've missed anyone!

Angelesque · 29/04/2021 22:08

@Millymay13 a few days late in seeing your message... we had almost exactly the same thing (leg bone at 20 wk put baby on 8th centile; referred to fetal medicine). Had consultant appointment two weeks later, where she did loads more measuring, including uterine flow. She was brilliant - so reassuring and knowledgeable with zero patronising. Baby now measuring at 70th centile Smile
