Hi ladies. Hope everyone is well had a good eastef weekend. Was wondering if anyone else is still suffering from morning sickness? I'm 20wks today (due 24th Aug) on my 4th lot of anti sickness tablets feeling sorry for myself not being able to eat chocolate or have a cup of tea

Millymay13 · 05/04/2021 22:20

@PurplePansy05 and @Daffodil21 I’m consultant led too for recurrent miscarriage. I’ve had one telephone (5 minute) consultation with the consultant who said I’d have one extra scan at 34 weeks and a telephone call with her after that. I was a bit surprised after my midwife said I’d be having regular growth scans (which I thought might be the case anyway as I’m over 40 so ‘elderly’ and at risk of growth restriction) but didn’t argue. Now I wonder if I should have questioned it.

PurplePansy05 · 05/04/2021 22:32

@Millymay13 I think it depends on how you feel about things. Theoretically, in a healthy pregnancy growth scans aren't needed but of course reassurance is crucial. I have another scan this week but only because they couldn't take all the measurements at 20 weeks so I have a rescan at 22. I will ask a question about growth scans then, will see what they say. But not holding out much hope as it was the consultant who told me before they'd book me in for 32 & 36 weeks. This inconsistency in care is so frustrating.

If they refuse, I've already thought about going for 1 or 2 growth scans privately anyway, so I guess I'll just go with that. Bump measurements aren't an accurate indicator of baby growth and in any event it looks like I'd only be measured once at my 25 week appt with the MW and then not till 32 & 36 Hmm xx

Jessicapebbles · 05/04/2021 22:41

@lucyrp I’ve been having exactly the same issue for weeks 😭 although mine is super itchy. I’m putting it down to stretching but if it’s still the same when I see my midwife next week then I’m going to bring it up. It’s driving me spare!!

MM1993 · 05/04/2021 22:53

Hi everyone,

I didn't even know these groups existed - I'm due 24th august - first baby !

lucyrp · 06/04/2021 06:50

@Jessicapebbles yes I've had these for weeks too but I'm trying to keep my belly as moisturised as possible along with the rest of my body because if I miss one day of moisturising my whole body starts flaking skin. Don't know what this baby is doing to me! Yeah I need to bring it up with the midwife but I don't see mine for another 4 weeks now! So itchy

Between my cat trying to pat me every few minutes last night trying to wake me up and the baby moving when they don't normally move at night I had very little sleep. My hormones are raging at the moment and work was difficult before because of certain people but it has become increasingly difficult this last week and I actually snapped at someone on Saturday 😬

LyraShaeLilly · 06/04/2021 07:16

Really reassurance that survival is not good at 24 weeks, I was aiming for 28 weeks.

Also, legally you cant get maternity leave or pay until 24 weeks!! So if baby does survive at 24 weeks they will surely have to re-think that.

I am 19+4 and scan on Monday. Starting to get scan anxiety!! I remember somebody else saying they also had their scan on the 12th, who else has scans coming up?

I woke up on my back last night and i'm a bit worried about that, I don't think our double bed plus pregnancy pillow is big enough so I'm sending DH to spare bedroom in future!!!

lucyrp · 06/04/2021 07:29

@LyraShaeLilly it's completely fine to wake up on your back so don't worry about that. They just say to not fall asleep on your back, I'm not sure why but I think it's because you're obviously tossing and turning so much that you wouldn't be on your back for that much time anyway x

biscuitcat · 06/04/2021 08:20

@Jessicapebbles and @lucyrp oh what a pain! When my skin was incredibly itchy a few weeks ago I took loratadine which cleared it right up - mine seemed to be some kind of allergic reaction though, so I don't know if that would affect it. I went a few weeks just using the things the doctor said and moisturising constantly, then finally looked on the NHS website and it said loratadine was ok and one tablet practically completely cleared it up and solved weeks of misery overnight.

@LyraShaeLilly yes don't worry about waking up on your back! I toss and turn something horrid and practically always do, I just flip over and fall asleep on my side again.

Welcome @MM1993 - so exciting having a first baby 🥰 I'm in the same boat!

Daffodil21 · 06/04/2021 09:09

Hi and welcome @deedeebythesea @MM1993

@Millymay13 definitely push for it if it's something you want, especially as the midwife said you'd be getting extra care.

@PurplePansy05 that's exactly what I thought, I wasn't expecting any useful outcome from yesterday and was fully expecting to get back home and book privately again, like we have been all the way through until now. I know I booked an excessive amount of scans privately and I wouldn't have expected all that on the NHS, but at the same time I do expect some level of care and compassion giving the circumstance. My husband did lay into them pretty heavily - he was perfectly polite but highlighted all the ways they've messed up so far, including failing to test our last pregnancy correctly due to a paperwork failure, prescribing steroids in a pandemic with no follow up etc. He wasn't making a complaint, but he was highlighting why we have cause for complaint, and basically sort it out or we will be filing an official complaint. Given that my husband even got the local MP on the case when we waited 3 weeks for an 'urgent referral' to a consultant in the early days (thankfully I already had the meds I needed), I think they just threw in a load of monitoring I keep us quiet!!

Inmypjsagain · 06/04/2021 10:59

Hi everyone, hope you all had a lovely long weekend 😊 we saw family at the weekend and had a garden picnic. It was so good to see people! I was shocked as they surprised us with John Lewis vouchers and husband’s sister couldn’t resist some clothes shopping by the looks of it as she’s bought us 8 baby grows, 3 hats, some socks,2 little cardigans! I’m a bit superstitious so wasn’t planning on buying any clothing until near my due date!

@Winecoffeeteamum I’m 22 weeks today and still suffering with sickness and nausea and I’m still on my meds. Think we’re the unlucky ones but hope it passes for you soon.

We’ve begun researching car seats, @BertieBotts could I ask you to link your blog again please? I kept it open in a separate tab which I accidentally closed 🙈 I can’t remember which thread it was linked in now. I think we’ve decided we want a spinnable seat but none of these seem to be detachable with handles- except for the cybex but there are 2 seats, ditto with the maxi cosi? Ideally we’d like one that lasts til age 4ish, spins and you can detach with a handle and add on to a pram base I don’t think that exists unless the new maxi case cosi 360 family does it all (but there really seems to be nothing on the internet except for a 1min advert for it!)

Caved and did a big maternity wear order late last week too- I was so naive I really thought I could get away with normal clothes but it doesn’t work like that does it. It’s all costing a small fortune 😫

Hope everyone is well and having a good day x

BertieBotts · 06/04/2021 11:16

Yes they are keeping it quite hush hush! It is due for release around the middle of this month it looks like.

I'll link later as I'm on mobile :) I was working on another post but it's become ridiculously long 🙈 any other questions or newborn seat topics to inspire me and I'll see if I can write a shorter one.

Waves to all the new posters!

BertieBotts · 06/04/2021 11:17

I have ordered some vests and sleepsuits from next - will share when they arrive.

Inmypjsagain · 06/04/2021 11:28

Thank you @BertieBotts I’m sorry I lost the link to begin with! www.maxi-cosi.co.uk/c/coming-soon-360-family?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIw-ifrbPp7wIV1uvtCh1C2gq2EAAYASABEgK7MPD_BwE It says 9th April so let’s see!

Honestly I have a 10000 questions because there’s so much, every time I look at a new seat something else confuses me 😂 . Feel like I should have started researching before getting pregnant! It’s so hard to know what will be cost efficient, good to use and will actually last. Feel like by the time I’ve made my mind up on what to buy the baby will be 4 months old!!!!

WolfMother326 · 06/04/2021 11:58

Thanks for the new thread!

How is everyone feeling? After a bad week last week, my body feels fine the past few days. I even went for a swim at an outdoor pool - it was divine to have some normality and get moving.

@Daffodil21 glad you are finally getting the care you need - how terrible it took this long though!
@PurplePansy05 I am also consultant led and only having extra growth scans after 32 weeks, but I was told it depends on the trust.

PurplePansy05 · 06/04/2021 12:14

@inmypjsagain You have literally summed up what a perfect car seat would be, alas they don't exist, as you say. This is exactly what I'd buy too.

Thanks for the MaxiCosi link, I've signed up to their mailing list to get an update on this seat. I think we are between Cybex Cloud Z and this one and it will ultimately come down to the features of the new MaxiCosi seat (and compatibility of their seats for older babies/children) and the price. Good timing for the release, we are hoping to buy one this or next month xx

BertieBotts · 06/04/2021 12:52

The Recaro one does what you want BTW but it does need an extra adapter in between or you can get a Recaro pram and then it's just the one adapter as normal, I think.

There might be a new Jane one which spins and has a pop out carry part too, but the pop out part is only until about 60cm which is about 3-6 months.

Hoares3 · 06/04/2021 13:47

Just marking my place

Inmypjsagain · 06/04/2021 14:10

@PurplePansy05 we’re thinking exactly the same as you. I’m wondering if there’s a reason that so few fit the bill- as in is it safer/more practical to just get 2 different seats?

@BertieBotts thank you so much, I forgot how good your post was!!! The recaro looks really interesting and it’s not one that popped up in our Googling. I think I’d like to see this one in real life because some reviews say it’s quite bulky/hard to use. I’m quite certain we’ll be getting the bugaboo fox 2 pram which is compatible with maxi cosy- so if we looked at recaro we’d need an extra set of adapters? (sorry I’m going to have to google these adapters because I just can’t picture how they work/what we need!). I also wonder, if we end up a having number 2, is it even worth looking at one of these all in ones as if, for example, you get the two different cybex ones, it can always be handed down to younger? As I mentioned above I feel there must be a reason there aren’t more seats designed like this as presumably a lot of parents would go for it if it works out more cost effective in the long run.

I feel I need a degree in car seat, cot and pram studies. I’ve only really started looking at them all properly and I feel like closing my eyes and pointing and buying whichever I point at, quite overwhelming. The hormones don’t help 😂

LaceyMermaid · 06/04/2021 14:11

I’m consultant led due to previous big babies and I think I’ll only see the consultant once near the end, but do have extra growth scans at 32, 36 and 40 weeks.
@lucyrp @Jessicapebbles I have been getting unbearably itchy legs - no idea why but thank you might look up that medication if it carries on.
@LyraShaeLilly
I’m 20 weeks today and have my scan on Friday. Also getting to anxiety starting about it now but I had a lot of worry after my 12 week scan with high risk results and enlarged nuchal measurement as well as bleeding at 16 and 18 weeks so I think that doesn’t help! I also am forever waking up on my back but I just roll over. Not sure how to stop it happening!
Welcome @Winecoffeeteamum @MM1993 I have the same due date as you both!

Inmypjsagain · 06/04/2021 14:18

@lucyrp @Jessicapebbles and @LaceyMermaid I’m assuming that the itchiness is the stretching, not sure about legs. I really love the mama mio tummy butter which I’ve just on my legs and boobs too, but it didn’t deal with an itchy back- my friend recommended child’s farm moisturiser and it is a dream. Might be worth a try? I’m sorry @lucyrp, I don’t think I recognise the marks but I’d ask the midwife just incase. It almost reminds me of the skin I get post waxing?!

I’m forever waking up on my back and am now wondering, I’m working on the sofa sitting up with my legs stretched out- almost like sitting up in bed- is that a bad position? I’ve only just thought about it!

PurplePansy05 · 06/04/2021 14:20

@Inmypjsagain I feel exactly the same as you. Tbh I think the 0-4 seats just wouldn't work with prams, they are all too bulky and I suspect they'd have to compromise on safety (and also buying two separate seats brings them more money, right, so no major design rush lol).

I agree with you that the seat can be passed on to DC2 and then the other larger seat too, so in a way this is a saving. I'm minded to just buy something that fits in easily with the pram for the first few months not to faff and get flustered tbh. I think being a FTM on my own when DH goes back to work will be a sufficient challenge when it comes to leaving the house. So I'm minded to invest in something that will make my life easier. If this is going to cost £50 or £100 more than buying a single 0-4 seat then you know, so be it. Over the years especially with 2 DCs I won't notice this price difference. That's where my head is at.

I just think every mum to be needs to digest on how she wants to do things and in time priorities crystallise and it becomes easier to decide what to buy. I found feedback from this thread really invaluable tbh. xx

PurplePansy05 · 06/04/2021 14:26

Also can I recommend Dr Palmers Cocoa anti-stretch mark body lotion and bump butter (use lotion first, then butter), I have been using it 2-3 times a week (and Burts Bees Mama Bee also 2-3 times a week). I put Dr Palmers over dry skin in other areas too and found it super moisturising. It smells lovely too. xx

PurplePansy05 · 06/04/2021 14:32

@Inmypjsagain Re work it's not a bad position in terms of stillbirth prevention advice, but make sure you don't put a hot laptop over your bump for hours. I would also say make sure you move every half hour or so, just to save your back and hips longer term. You might be ok now but as you grow things will likely change.

I think in the UK the side sleeping advice only applies in the 3rd trimester although in some other countries they now say from 17-18 weeks. I am a left side sleeper anyway but because of my hip pain, I often wake up on my back now, annoyingly - in the night and in the morning. I think the left side is key to fall asleep on, whereas if you wake up in a different position later apparently that is fine, just rearrange. xx
