@Daffodil21 That's too funny! I mean it's tragic, but you gotta laugh now, right? 😂 I'm a big fan of your DH, btw, lots of brownie points for him! Re the reno saga, I'm not going there now, my builder has gone awol and I am panicked right now, but DH has worked till 2am and cleaned up most of the mess. He has also arranged for his best mate to come in and help him rearrange the garage so we stand a chance...now just to get hold of my builder lol 😂😂😂 And breathe! xx

@lucyrp You've just sorted me out with this idea - beef ragu sounds perfect!!! ❤ xx

PurplePansy05 · 07/04/2021 15:17

@Jessicapebbles I cannot look at corn on the cob the same way again after watching Gavin & Stacey 😂 (still love it though!). Sounds delish!! xx

Ava50x · 07/04/2021 15:20

Hi

Can I chime in?
Currently 19+5 with DC4, have my 20 week scan tomorrow. Due on the 28th August.
I've just found this thread now, hope everyone is getting on OK! I'm sorry to hear about all the recurrent miscarriages but hoping for healthy babies for everyone.
Is it normal that i've not seen a midwife yet? So far all my appointments have been over the phone. Booking done over the phone and then I had to go to GP for bloods. Every appointment a different midwife calls me, so don't really know who my midwife would be, should I need to call her...
Been suffering with constant nausea and vomiting and excessive exhaustion which makes it hard to function, not been able to work much. House is a flipping mess at present... Midwife at last phone call was just said its normal for pregnancy which I somehow don't think it is. Anyone else had this?
Anyway glad to join and best of luck to everyone!

Daffodil21 · 07/04/2021 15:20

@PurplePansy05 we actually did laugh about it! It was just so so typical!
Argh what a nightmare! I hope your DH and friend get through it quickly!
No idea what's on the menu tonight. I expect I will just fancy chips but will make an effort to get some nutrition in!

Jessicapebbles · 07/04/2021 15:20

@PurplePansy05 😂😂😂 That is so true!! So funny.

Alittlexmasmagic · 07/04/2021 15:59

@Ava50x I think this is another example of different trusts operating. I've seen a MW twice so far at 20wks.
Speak to your GP about anti sickness pills ASAP x

Magik01 · 07/04/2021 16:15

Hi everyone! Load stoke catch up on I see 😅 I’m so sorry to hear about everyone’s struggles both in terms of ttc and during pregnancies and losses. My heart goes out to you all and I know I’m extremely lucky to not have gone through something so traumatic.

@PurplePansy05 hoping your Reno goes ahead okay, but I can imagine it’s a very stressful time!! Defo a cuppa is needed.

I’ve had an appointment through for a scan on Monday with a doctor which I am assuming is to further investigate what was discovered at my 20wk scan which I am quite nervous about. I also HATE trying to park at the hospital because it’s a bloody nightmare. ☹️

Been feeling very exhausted lately, the late nights at work and my DS is going through a “no” phase that isn’t helping 😂

PurplePansy05 · 07/04/2021 16:21

Aw @Magik01 what's happened at your 20 ws? So sorry, I don't think I've seen your update about this? xx

biscuitcat · 07/04/2021 16:25

Hi @Ava50x! That sounds rubbish to still be suffering with nausea, sorry you're not feeling good. I think seeing the midwife is something that sadly varies from trust to trust - all of my appointments have been in person so far (though I'm registered with an out of area hospital so don't yet have a named midwife that I know of - I think I'll meet her at my 25 week appointment which is with my local community midwives)

@PurplePansy05 sounds like you've decided on dinner tonight! If you're looking for future inspiration, we're having pitta bread filled with halloumi, avocado, pomegranate seeds, tzatziki and salad 😋 also lovely with little lamb kofte

@Jessicapebbles that sounds amazing! I'm holding off steak until baby arrives as I like it still mooing - first post baby meal will be a lovely rare steak with a big glass of wine outside in the sun 😍

Ava50x · 07/04/2021 16:35

@Alittlexmasmagic thanks for advice. GP gave me Xonvea but it made me even more exhausted than I am already... and didn't help! So stopped using them.

@biscuitcat with my other 3 pregnancies I saw a named midwife at my GP practice. They're not doing this now because of Covid so was wondering if that was normal.

I'm feeling much worse this time round which makes me wonder if I'm having a girl? Have 3 delicious DS so hopefully! But not going to find out at the scan, I definitely want a surprise!

Thanks for the sympathy. Take care all!

Magik01 · 07/04/2021 16:51

@PurplePansy05 the lady who scanned me said was something in my womb that shouldn’t be there, she said it was a uterine synechiae. Confused I’ve never heard of it but that’s what written on my scan notes 😂 So she said she would let fetal medicine know who may want to investigate it further. I’m glad they are investigating it tbh I think I’d be more worried knowing there’s something there that shouldn’t be and not know what it is!

Inmypjsagain · 07/04/2021 16:54

Reading this thread has been really difficult and I can’t believe some of this stuff I’m reading. It’s horrible and I don’t know how you’ve all coped- I know there’s no choice but to get on with it but the lack of support is terrible.

I’ve said it a few times on the threads, I’ve been lucky and had no issues (so far, touch wood...) but I’ve been really unimpressed with everything ante natal so far and I’ve often thought I’ve expected too much. I’m on my second midwife now and I’m not sure if maybe the first was better.... @WolfMother326 I’m with queen charlottes and have actually been considering moving because I’ve been so unimpressed. Though I’ve been told if you have issues they’re brilliant, so pleased to hear you’ve had a positive experience with this trust and I hope it continues.

I’m also looking for dinner inspo, have been very sick today so the thought of all food making me feel a bit queasy!

PurplePansy05 · 07/04/2021 16:55

Oh I remember now, sorry @Magik01, yes, you did say! I googled it now and it's the same thing as the Asherman syndrome. That's a complication after a D&C, but I don't remember you mentioning you had it done before? Where do you think this may have come from?

I only ever heard of it in the context of secondary infertility post loss because it can make it difficult to get pregnant, but I never heard of it being a complication later on? xx

Inmypjsagain · 07/04/2021 16:58

@Ava50x hello, so sorry to hear about your sickness. I empathise, I’d definitely call your GP and see if they can give you something. I had to try 4 different types before I found one that didn’t wipe me out and I take a combination now. I’ve seen a midwife once for booking in, im 22 weeks now, I’d have thought they’d have seen you by now. Do you have your next midwife appt scheduled?

HopefulB · 07/04/2021 17:03

Sorry to hear so many bad experiences. I’m definitely not saying that care is as it should be, just that it’s unlikely that the individuals involved started off being so blunt/lacking in compassion, and that I feel it’s more constructive to channel energy at the bigger picture than individuals caught up in the system. NHS IT is universally Sh*t, so when you work with it you lose the energy to try and fix it every time something else goes wrong, so I unfortunately can’t say I’m surprised about the pop up blocker!

I must have a raging feminist streak in me somewhere as I was fuming when I started to look for the evidence base around various recommendations after my
Miscarriage and found it just doesn’t exist. This is the same in the case of growth scans. Women’s health and fertility is very different to other aspects of medicine in that respect. I feel this also reflects on society as a whole - other specialisms (cardiac surgery, cancer treatment etc) are seen as more ‘sexy’ many people just don’t value women’s health. The lack of evidence base leads to a lack of standards/guidelines and that in turn to clinicians having to decide their own approach which is what leads to massive variations in care.

@BertieBotts is also spot on about paternalistic approach and how people actually expect this. I can’t believe I was taught about parternalistic models of care versus a patient focussed collaborative approach some 20years ago and still pull people up on it. This is why it is so important to share what you’ve experienced and even if we don’t all agree with each other (the world would be a boring place if we did) support each other in getting the care you need at the time you need it.

If that means that in the short term we need to be assertive / ask more questions / challenge recommendations then I think that’s small fry compared to what other generations have fought for & hope that it might just make a difference for the next generation.

(and yes I do intend to read How to give birth like a feminist!)

Left over pulled pork and sweet potato wedges for tea for me!
I make some awesome chocolate brownies at the weekend, each time I’ve eaten one I’ve felt a little flutterSmile (no other consistency with movements)

Magik01 · 07/04/2021 17:04

@PurplePansy05 Yes, at the scan she was asking if I’d ever had any medical management after a loss which I haven’t. The only abdominal surgery I’ve had my was previous section so it must be from that! Unless you can just develop it I’m not too sure?

From what I’ve read it depends where it is in the womb as the baby can get a bit tangled which can stop growth. I’m pretty sure mines out the way but we will see Monday!

Inmypjsagain · 07/04/2021 17:07

@HopefulB the baby likes brownies!!! I’ve noticed movement after I had a Cadbury’s creme egg- I’m assuming that means they’re a fan 😂

@Magik01 hope they get to the bottom of it for you!

HopefulB · 07/04/2021 17:11

Actually before I leave my feminist rage, did anyone else see the guardian article which suggested that 56% of women who needed an induction had to go through it alone due to COVID restrictions? There had thankfully been an increase since Oct in those who had partners present for 12/20wk scans, but it was still not good enough. Any patient receiving life changing information deserves to have support with them.

OP posts:
HopefulB · 07/04/2021 17:14

@Magik01, hope you get an update soon, waiting for more information can be so difficult x

OP posts:
biscuitcat · 07/04/2021 17:24

@HopefulB I don't think I've seen that specific article, but so much of what has been going on with maternity care has just been deplorable. I think it really shows that there are just hardly any women at the top of government - we're a second thought (baby kicked away while I wrote that, so I'm clearly growing a little feminist!). Give Birth Like a Feminist is fabulous!

@Magik01 good luck for your scan, I hope it's all good news and that you get some more certainty to ease the stress xx

PurplePansy05 · 07/04/2021 17:27

@Magik01 I think, but don't quote me on that, that it could develop after a C-section or if you had polyps or fibroids removed before, basically any incision to the womb which scarred. But that would be very unlucky, I think D&C is by far the most common cause. I think what that means is that they'll likely keep a closer eye on you for the rest of the pregnancy which is good news. If you say it's out of the way then I'd very much hope it won't have any impact at all. Fingers crossed 🤞 You may want to ask them about removing it though, especially if you may consider more DCs in the future, it should help with conception for sure.

And now I REALLY want brownies!!! Might make some this weekend 😁 xx

Magik01 · 07/04/2021 17:28

Thank you @HopefulB @Inmypjsagain and @PurplePansy05 fingers crossed it’s just one of those things and it won’t affect the baby or me! At least I get to see him again. 😅 The baby that is!

BertieBotts · 07/04/2021 17:39

Maternal health is absolutely a feminist issue.

I think another issue is people are afraid to do studies involving potential risk to unborn babies just because the consequences if it all went horribly wrong would be terrible. But of course there are consequences to not having this info as well.

LyraShaeLilly · 07/04/2021 17:55

@ava50

I am also coming up to 20 weeks I have seen the same community MW a couple of times in person for blood and urine tests and over the phone for chats, but only the hospital MW once at 12 week scan. However the community MW cannot answer any of my Qs as she doesnt work at the hospital!!

I'm definitely going to read "how to give birth as a feminist"

LyraShaeLilly · 07/04/2021 18:59

Also can I eat pasteurised rind off goats cheese.

It's the rind off bit thats throwing me, does it mean rind taken off or no rind in the first place,

This is also a Hello Fresh recipe and I really didn't think when choosing recipes!!!
