@biscuitcat that all sounds like so much unnecessary stress for you!

My mum lives 600 miles away and she is going to come a couple of weeks before my EDD as my husband isn't going to take leave until he's here, so it's just so there's someone to take me to hosp if DH isn't here! She's then going to stay for the first night, maybe two (only because I've asked her to) and then she's going to come back a few weeks later when I want her to again. She's said she can stay in a B and B if we want want space (but I want her to stay so the us). You have to do what's right for you!!!

lucyrp · 08/03/2021 15:05

@biscuitcat it was on my app! I'll attach the screenshots ! It's on the bottom left of the pic. I also watched a YouTube video of someone and she said the same thing!

@Daffodil21 it’s true. I use this app - pregnancy + and on that it shows between week 18-19 baby grows by 10 cm in one week. So far it’s been like 1-2 cm here and there. But by end of week 19, baby should be from 6.02 inches to 10.79 inches! 😁

@biscuitcat gosh your sil! she’s soo selfish and unreasonable. Just let your DH deal with it. Can’t believe she’s reached out to you to tell you all that when you’re pregnant. Another reason why you shouldn’t let her come live with you guys once baby is here. Shows how self obsessed people can be! 🤨

Glad your DH understands and I’m sorry you have to deal with this at this stage. Hope you’re ok xx

Whatshouldbemyusername · 08/03/2021 15:08

@lucyrp that’s the same app I use!! ♥️

Millymay13 · 08/03/2021 15:18

Thank you everyone for your tips on avoiding pee-fingers! I’ve taken and extra pot so I’ll find something clean at home I can pee into before transferring it. Today was not the most fun getting soggy fingers 😂

@biscuitcat I can’t believe your sister in law! My family are all about 300 miles away and I’ve not seen my Dad since December 2019, but still he’s asked if I might be ok with a visit in June/July because he doesn’t want to cause problems if I’m too tired and fat. If I say no then he won’t come, and that’s ages before baby is due! I know these are difficult times and families are all missing each other but for your SIL not to understand why it might be a problem for them to stay when you’re about to pop/have just given birth is incredible (I can’t think what the right word is there!). I’m so glad your DH is understanding and is there for you.

LottSE20 · 08/03/2021 16:05

@biscuitcat agree with everyone else, I am amazed she thinks that is even remotely reasonable! I’m a FTM but there is no way I’d have anyone to stay until well after the birth.

I’ve been having loads of ‘twangs’ today all around my hips, tummy and down there. I’m hoping it’s just a growth spurt.

Thanks for the pee lot ideas - I had been thinking about one of these Grin

Interesting to read how much a baby grows between weeks 17-20 - I wonder if this is why I am so unbelievably tired (I'm 17w tomorrow), and also feeling very achy/twingy in the pelvis and groin. Has anyone else been struggling? I feel much better than I did during the 1st trimester, but I'm definitely uncomfortable a lot of the time. Also, my nipples have been hurting like crazy!

Daffodil21 · 08/03/2021 16:14

@WolfMother326 yes ridiculously tired too. Also finding it difficult to think straight! Is anyone else??

Daffodil21 · 08/03/2021 16:15

Haven't any twangs for a few days 😩 so now I'm starting to worry again. Got a scan booked in a week - it's going to be a loooong week! I just wish I could feel him moving!!

WolfMother326 · 08/03/2021 16:20

@Daffodil21 it's hard not being able to feel movements yet - I feel strange being in the middle of 4 weeks with no scans but trying to stay calm. I hope your scan comes quickly!

MrsB2019x · 08/03/2021 16:46

@WolfMother326 Yep! Feeling better than 1st tri for sure but knackered and falling asleep on the sofa at 8:30/9:00 🙈 and have zero motivation to do anything. Hips are starting to hurt now too. Good signs that things are progressing for us I guess! ☺️

@LottSE20 I don’t think I could ever bring myself to buy a shewee 😂 a friend had one when we went to a festival so she could pee through the fence like the guys rather than queue for the toilet.. no thank you

LaceyMermaid · 08/03/2021 16:58

Totally understand anyone with pelvic pain! I’m getting it and I’ve had to stop going for long walks, went for 6 miles at the weekend and the pain was so bad after I couldn’t walk all night! In my case it’s SPD - had in in my second pregnancy too but strangely not my third. I’m sure a certain amount of pelvic pain is totally normal though

HopefulB · 08/03/2021 17:14

Hi all,

Happy Women’s Day!

The measurements change at 20weeks from Crown to Rump, to Crown to Heel. So it’s not quite the growth spurt it looks!!

I had a good chat with the boss today, who actually encouraged me to think about longer mat leave, and not to miss out - which is kind of nice. I’m pretty senior, so I’m torn as to the set an example as a female leader, use the leave and show it’s there for everyone, or take a short period, not dump loads on my colleagues plates and have less risk of everything falling over and it won’t be as stressful to pick back up! I’d also like OH to have the opportunity to take shared leave. So much to think about!

biscuitcat · 08/03/2021 17:36

Thank you @lucyrp and @Daffodil21 - can't believe that rate of growth!! Wonder if my slightly bloated looking bump might evolve into something that looks a bit more pregnant and less 'overindulged at lunch' 😂

Thanks everyone for all the support - too many people to name check 🥰 DH took over and also got his head bitten off so we're withdrawing comms for a bit to let things settle down, and lovely MIL sent me a message to say not to worry too much and apologising for SIL's behaviour. I think the second hand pram we've been offered might be off the table for now!

Carefree1 · 08/03/2021 18:00

Happy International Women’s Day all 💗

It sounds like you have a good relationship with your boss @HopefulB. I think it’s a good point about taking the time, not missing out and setting an example for others. I think if my boss took a short amount of time, I might feel that I should too. Sounds like a really compassionate company.

Today, we had a company bulletin about planting bee friendly plants in the garden. Not a word about international women’s day 😂. Not shocked though, so male dominated 🙄

@biscuitcat glad that DH and MIL are sensible! Xx

Hi everyone, I'm now 17 weeks and feeling good in the main. I'm working out 2 or 3 x a week and doing long walks 2- 3x and feeling good overall. Its my third so I'm trying to stay as fit as possible as I know how much easier it is afterwards to get back to normal if I don't over indulge (there time yet of course!)

I'm just so anxious about going back to work on April 12th. I've been on furlough since Xmas eve as I am a restaurant manager and I'm so nervous about having to go back for 3 months. I'll be 22 weeks by then and am contracted to 36 hours. The general manager has left so I've got to fill in between April and July, I'm scared how worn out I will be, about the prospect of doing a close (so working until 10/11pm) and then being in the next day. We have lost loads of staff who have left the industry this lockdown so there's only me and 1 other who can lock up. I'm not sure how this all fits in with the guidance to work from home or be suspended from 28 weeks if that's not possible. I feel alot of pressure and I'm starting to doubt if I'll cope. To make matters more awkward my husband is co owner of the business so I feel ill be letting them down if I struggle. He hasn't said this of course and doesn't want me to work nights but then I'll have to work like 5 days where as I usually just do 4 long shifts.

Any advice?! Sorry to ramble on x

lucyrp · 09/03/2021 05:19

@Redskinsucks when you say you're going back to work on April 12th is that for your outdoor seated first? I work as a cafe assistant/supervisor and am also contracted to 37 hours a week. I don't have to just do what's in my job title we all tend to get lumbered with pretty much everything as our catering manager is pretty rubbish. We also have lost loads of staff, our team is usually 15 or so people and at the moment we have 5 and a half people as one lady has returned from maternity and halved her contract. The guidance I've been told is that I can work right up until my due date as long as I'm not actually public facing from 28 weeks so I plan to not do any waitressing as such and just stay behind the screen at the till and take orders and do the barista etc and I can also stay in the kitchen. I'm not sure how that works out for you are you in a similar position of being able to stay out the back with colleagues and not out the front so much ? X

Redskinsucks · 09/03/2021 08:39

@lucyrp hi thanks for replying. There is no option for me to not be customee facing no, we are a wine/cocktail bar and restaurant so bills etc are all done at the table. There is a bar but as I am the geneeal manager now (and there is nobody else who can be as I am the most senior in the company by far. Only extremely young, junior members havnt left) i am not scared in the slightest of catching the virus. I am just worried about working shifts so pregnant. I write the rotas so I can choose what I work as long as I can put on sufficient people when I'm not there. I'm waiting on finding out when my kids school is staring after school club so I could work mainly 10- 530 shifts but until I train a new starter to be a supervisor who can lock up ill have to do some😪 we're interviewing tomorrow so hopefully I'll feel better then!

Just feel like it's all on top of me and after being off so long the idea of going back when 6 months pregnant isn't appealing at all! That's why I was wondering about using the 28 week thing as a get out clause if its too much, without having to start my crappy maternity pay super early.

Again thanks for your suggestions. How long do u plan on working until? Xx

Redskinsucks · 09/03/2021 08:46

Sorry yes we opening our courtyard on April 12th x

BeeBee87 · 09/03/2021 08:50

Hi all! I’m 18 weeks today so hopefully I’m okay to join this thread 😊

lucyrp · 09/03/2021 09:40

@Redskinsucks I'm in wales so we're currently waiting on the guidance to be released on when we can re open but we have been asked to go in as per Rota from last week onwards now to clean etc and get ready for opening. I'm not sure why as our manager seems to think we can open from the beginning of April but if going by the news we too won't be opening outside until 12th and then inside until 17th may but what can you do. Going back wasn't pleasant for me either but I'm glad that the sickness etc is over and I have slightly more energy than 1st trimester.
Oh no that's rubbish that there's no option for you to be more behind the scenes etc. I wish our manager wasn't allowed to be like that as she sits in the office most of the time 🤣 i totally understand yes. I'm hoping to work up until 38 weeks pregnant and have used some of my annual leave from then until 40 weeks and then requested mat leave from my due date. I suddenly panicked and realised I was working august bank holiday at 38 weeks the other day and booked it off sharpish 😂 hopefully you'll find someone capable when you interview as that seems to be the best option for you! But with the 28 week thing as you were saying if there's no option for you not to be public facing then you really should be furloughed as working from home. Sorry for rambling on! Xx

wimbler · 09/03/2021 10:23

Thanks for setting up the new thread! It's crazy reading how quickly they grow at the moment. I'm 20w this week and looking back on my bump pictures from last pregnancy it was about now that I started noticeably growing from week to week!
Been feeling regular kicks now as well - my husband has been able to feel them too which is so nice, we can see them from the outside too. I forgot how weird it is!

Daffodil21 · 09/03/2021 10:31

@wimbler could your husband feel the kicks as soon as you could or a little later? My husband asked me this yesterday but I have no idea!

wimbler · 09/03/2021 10:34

@Daffodil21I was feeling pops and flutters for a week or two but the last couple of days have seen movement from the outside - that's when he first felt the kicks. We were falling asleep in bed and his arm was around my middle and he says he felt it kick him

WolfMother326 · 09/03/2021 11:20

Hello all -

Just wanted to share that I bought a pair of maternity leggings from Love Leggings and they are the best, most comfortable thing ever, and not see through. I bought one size up from my normal, which is fitting very comfortably right now, but I might get one size larger for the third trimester (if it's not too hot to be wearing leggings by then). They weren't too pricey either.

@lucyrp, not sure if this plays a factor in the growth metrics on pregnancy +, but I read yesterday that up to 19 or 20 weeks the baby is measured crown to rump, but after 20 weeks the legs are included in the measurement, which is why the size jumps so noticeably. This may or may not explain the huge increase!
