@Daffodil21 I thought I'd mention this because some of my local photographers are already fully booked for Aug-Sep 🤦🏼‍♀️ Newborn sessions normally take place within the first 2-3 weeks after the birth and they just pencil you in and play it by ear depending on the actual DOB. Because of that they said they take less bookings to make sure they can juggle around so you might want to make enquiries soon xx

Alittlexmasmagic · 05/04/2021 10:23

@biscuitcat I have the MB Terrain which is a completely different animal but the MB's are all pretty solid and easy to push around. Mines taken a battering. Only thing I don't like is the carrycot so not sure how the Swift carrycot measures up in comparison.
The terrain is huge so I'm tempted to get a 2nd hand pram for keeping in the car and getting out & about, keeping the MB for home use.
With regards to cot mattresses, we bought the IKEA cot & mattress and not had any problems. DS (2.5) sleeps happily in there, we've removed a side so he can climb in & out.x

@PurplePansy05 I just see my husband's face when I suggest it 😂 thanks for the heads up!

lucyrp · 05/04/2021 10:29

Whoever was asking about cot mattresses I've always gone for ones which have the natural coir fibres in them as it helps to regulate baby's temperature and they don't sweat as much. I bought one for our cot bed the other day which was £209 down to £109 on mamas and papas and it arrived the other day. Looks great quality. I've always gone at least mid range on cot mattresses otherwise I find they tend to collapse quite quickly and the cheap ones aren't normally very good for sweating or accidents etc.

@PurplePansy05 also just so you're aware the newborn photo shoots are always so expensive or should be expensive so that the photographer has had the correct training for positioning your baby in the curled up positions etc that you see. Mostly all of the photos are photoshopped or should be so that the photographers hands can't be seen as they should almost always hold them and support their heads/ necks otherwise some positions can compromise baby's breathing. Il try find a link to something I saw on Facebook xx

PurplePansy05 · 05/04/2021 10:39

@lucyrp Thanks for this. This made me shiver! The one we picked is fully trained and also the props she uses all provide head and neck support and in our family shots the baby will be held by us. I would not allow this sort of thing, what were these parents thinking!Confused xx

Dia12 · 05/04/2021 10:54

Thanks for the list @PurplePansy05 - I've added myself on.

I'd love a newborn shoot, I didn't stop to think it's something I should book in advance. I've had zero confidence about this pregnancy progressing, but I think it's time I start to plan ahead.

Thanks for the heads up about the safety aspect @lucyrp - what would I do without this group of well informed women!

@PurplePansy05 shocking isn't it! In regards to the shoots being expensive for the amount of photos you get I totally agree. I have been looking at having a maternity one but I don't like all of the dresses they sometimes put you in and so expensive for the amount you get. You often have to pay extra for more photos! I used to go to the same lady every year for a photo shoot for DS around his birthday or Christmas but she seemed to be getting more and more expensive every year and getting less and less photos for the price ! Something that is getting less affordable to something you need to save for ! Or I definitely will have to. Xx

@Dia12 no problem! Terrible isn't it ! Something well worth knowing x

PurplePansy05 · 05/04/2021 11:13

Absolutely @lucyrp, mine is £400 and it genuinely is the cheapest of the nice ones that I could find. I can only understand it because they effectively book you in for most of the day or full day, but still, even with editing time after that's a hefty daily rate xx

Daffodil21 · 05/04/2021 11:15

@PurplePansy05 £400?! That's me out then 😂

PurplePansy05 · 05/04/2021 11:20

@Daffodil21, yes, I know! You might be able to get it cheaper, depends on where you live. But the problem is a lot of them would say on the website the session is £50 or £100 and then slap on a digital package with 15 photos for £350 or more, plus extra if you want any prints. It's madness. xx

Carefree1 · 05/04/2021 12:59

I think I’m practically sold on the Cybex cloud z and then onto the next size once baby grows out of it. Just need to see what the seat is compatible with, as I do want to attach to pram frame in the beginning.

We’re really keen on a newborn shoot whilst she’s still small and squidgy, admittedly didn’t know it was that expensive or booked up though!! X

lucyrp · 05/04/2021 13:17

The lady I normally go to I've just looked and it's £70 for the initial shoot then add £150 on top just for 3 digital images, there's a package in the middle and then the next one is £500 for all of the images and a canvas so that makes it £570😱

BertieBotts · 05/04/2021 13:21

Carefree it goes onto Maxi Cosi adapters so anything that says it will take multiple and lists brands including Maxi Cosi/cybex/Joie will be compatible :) Most of the bigger brands will be.

I think I’ve done the new thread thingamy?
Sorry if I’ve not got it right!

Thank you @BertieBotts! I didn’t realise that, you’ve got so much helpful knowledge to share ☺️

Fran919 · 05/04/2021 13:56

@Alittlexmasmagic I’ve been looking at that cot from IKEA, I’ve never had issue with anything I’ve ever bought from there but good to know it’s lasted 2.5 years! It’s one of the few that has a drawer and isn’t a sleigh as I’m restricted on size but would fit that in comfortably.

@PurplePansy05 wow £400! I haven’t considered anything like a newborn shoot but my sister had one for hers and still has the pictures on display 12-10 years ago!

On the pram / car seat front I’ve been looking at the Jane/Johnston crosswalk pram which is all terrain but seems a good size for boot etc but also the matrix 2 car seat which can lie down so it can be ok for longer journeys. The seat can also be the carrycot and with a mattress they sell for £25 it’s safe for overnight sleeping. I’m really keen on it and seen a few threads about it but just can’t find anywhere that has them on display so would risk I think £30 to send back which I don’t mind but would prefer to see it.

Hi All! I am a mum of two boys and due my third on 4th August!
Hope to meet some bump buddies as not being on social media anymore makes the pregnancy feel pretty lonely 😂
Hope all your pregnancies are going well so far.
I am fed up already at 23 weeks 🤣 heart burn, rolling out of bed, waddling and all the rest of the fun! xXx
