gosh there's so many of us now i'm having a job keeping up. Not helped by the fact that my pc is playing up so not sure this will even post. Went on antibiotics for a UTI which i'm told is quite common. Hopefully they've got rid of it now. Am now drinking at least 1/2 pint of cranberry juice everyday so that should help. Nothing staggering to report apart from some days I look more pg than others. Anyone else feel like that? Seems to be a bit more movement today but again some days there's nothing. Still haven't had a kick yet but sure that will be soon.

Haven't been told about any ante-natal classes yet. I'm assuming my surgery run classes but i'm not sure. I'll have to look into the NCT. I can't seem to get going with things really although not an hour goes by without me thinking of this baby but I feel held back still. I talk about it constantly and look at baby things alot but I can't quite do anything if that makes sense. Maybe once I've had my 20 week scan in 2 1/2 weeks I'll feel differently. Hope everyone is well

Delgirl

I was EXACTLY the same with DD. Constantly thinking about her and looking at baby things but couldn't actually do anything. In the end my sister came and marched me into mothercare (at about 37wks!!!) and insisted I choose some stuff. I was at in a nursing chair relaxing while she ran about grabbing things and getting me to decide on colours etc. It was a great way to do it (otherwise I doubt I'd have hada thing when DD arrived). Do you have any close female friends/relatives who've had children already who could do this with you?

But remember, you do have tonnes of time left.

Hope everyone else is well. We're fine, bump growning well. Can't believe that I'll be in the last trimester after Xmas. Things certainly do seem to go a lot faster second time around.

miranda2 · 14/11/2004 16:14

Fainted this morning - while celebrating communion at church . I guess its probably lack of iron, coupled with feeling a bit fluey at the moment, so I shall see the doc tomorrow, but wondered in the meantime if there was any mumsnet wisdom on the subject??

orangina · 14/11/2004 17:44

miranda, have you got low blood pressure? Mine is a bit on the low side, and I nearly conked out at the bus stop a few weeks ago, had to more or less squat on the ground with my head in my hands (not that anyone else at the bus stop even blinked at this...!). Maybe you had been standing in line for a bit? Did you eat enough b-fast this morning? Little and often is how they say you should eat with low b/p...
hope you are feeling better now and that everyone else is well (are we all blooming yet?!)... I definitely feel as though I've turned some sort of corner, not sure if I can use the word blooming yet though, and certainly not "glow", with my pasty dry complexion!

Emmalina · 14/11/2004 18:38

Hello all,
Sorry to hear about the fainting fit. Not something I have had. Had a bit of a shock this weekend though, after an uneventful pg so far, when I bled after having sex. I was v worried as I had ab pains as well. Mother in law ex-midwife said not to worry and it is not uncommon after sex , but I did worry and went to docs. Felt very relieved when I heard the babies heartbeat on the monitor - baby even kicked the monitor to be sure to let me know it was still there. I nearly cried with joy No spotting or bleeding since. Was told me not to have sex until my scan in three weeks. Anyone else experienced this?
I know what you mean about holding back now, until the 20 week scan. I guess I was sailing through it assuming nothing could go wrong and there would just be a baby at the end of it all. I hope there will be for all of us, but I guess I have put the cautious breaks on again.
I hope you all have a good 'blooming' week.

Hello and thanks everyone for the welcome. Welcome also to Lockets - I'm very jealous of your lack of sickness, but not so much about the heartburn - poor you!

Emmalina - I'm glad everything is fine - are you okay now? I can't imagine having to discuss sex with my MiL (but I suppose now I'm pregnant she must realise we've done it at least once! )

bronniemuldoon · 15/11/2004 12:35

Welcome Raindog and Lockets (we share the same due date - 11 April!).

Trying to work out if the rumbles I'm feeling are baby, hunger or wind! Didn't feel DS until around 20 wks last time so not too worried but hoping to feel something soon!! Getting quite a lot of aches and pains and standing on one leg hurts quite a bit (specially trying to shave legs in the shower) - anyone else?

Am trying not to moan too much though as am off to a health farm for the weekend (Yippeeeee) for my sister's birthday. She organises it every year and although it's cost me an arm and a leg (and right before Christmas - ouch) I have booked in. I've booked a "beautiful bump" treatment so hope they are going to do something magical with my stretchmarks and I am going to come out looking like Posh Spice (preggers but radiant!!!). Grrr, saw her the other day in heat mag and she looked really good and you could hardly tell she was pg. AND she's a month ahead of us.

Am thinking I should start swimming, if only to keep up the mobility and stop the achy legs.... I'm still walking to work 3 days a week (40 mins twice a day) but am seriously slowing down now - old ladies are passing me on the steep bits!!

strawberry · 16/11/2004 10:34

Welcome all the newbies!

I can definitely feel baby moving now which is wonderful. Also off to a health farm at the weekend for a bit of pampering although will proabably sleep most of the time.

20 week scan is booked for next friday 26th. You may remenber that at nuchal scan they thought it was a boy so maybe will find out for sure next week.

If you really want to got tho NCT classes may have to book soon. Round here they get booked up quite early.

Got DS a doll's buggy which he loves. he has been patting my tummy saying "Ssshhh baby sleeping"!

A final thought - if anyone else comments on the size of my huge belly (dentist, taxi drivers, shop keepers and other random strangers) I will return the favour and remark on their body shape. All appropriate responses gratefully received.

I'm normally quite slim so I feel huge at the moment and none of my trousers fit (could be cos usually I wear them too tight!), but nobody else seems to think I'm showing and they all look really disappointed! I know that when I'm 8.5 months and look like a heffalump I'll look back at this time fondly, but I'd love to be sticking out a bit more right now! Especially on public transport.

Does anyone else find that their bump grows throughout the day? Mine is practically non-existent in the morning, and massive by bedtime! (and no, it isn't all the extra scooby snacks!).

If and when someone comments on my size I might say, 'I'm pregnant - what's your excuse?'

bronniemuldoon · 16/11/2004 17:05

ooooo Strawberry, which Health farm are you going to? Maybe we're going to the same place.

strawberry · 17/11/2004 08:33

BM - I'm going to Whittlebury Hall. What about you?

csa · 17/11/2004 11:43

strawberry and bronniemuldoon, i am so envious. have loads of fun at the health farm! i am feeling very sorry for myself at the moment. have a dreadful cold - the fourth in this pregnancy! can't be good. anyhow, found this extremely magical vapouriser/steamer thing which contains eucalyptus and mentol which is fantastic and at a bargain price of about £2 from boots/local pharmacy, what can i say?

on the antenatal classes subject, what do they teach you during these classes? i had ds overseas and did some antenatal classes there so don't really want to do anymore unless they are useful.....

bronniemuldoon · 17/11/2004 12:26

ah csa, poor you, cold sounds horrid.

When I went to NHS ante-natal sessions last time there were about 4 of them and they addressed a different issue of childbirth in each. Some stuff was quite useful to know but to be honest it was more helpful for meeting other mums in the area. I think if you've done it all once before you won't really learn anything new.

strawberry, I'm going to Champneys Henlow, that's a shame, we could have had an impromptu mn meetup!

orangina · 17/11/2004 15:54

i am feeling very left out that I appear to be in a minority NOT going off for a pampering weekend.... has planted an idea in my mind though! Hope you both have a lovely time (will think of you as I am doing my chores with the crowds this w/e...). Sorry to hear about your miserable cold csa, difficult to know how many extra vitamins etc you can take while pregnant.... I guess if you can put your feet up as much as possible and take it easy, that must help (is it possible?)

Seabird · 17/11/2004 21:18

Orangina I'm not off being pampered at the weekend either - in fact dh is off watching the rugby while I look after dd all day so quite the reverse!

Welcome to Emmalina, raindog and Lockets (hope I haven't missed anyone else who's recently joined). Lockets my dd will be less than 17m on my due date so I'm particularly glad to have you around!

I had a reasonably good week last week, give or take several afternoon naps and headaches. This time is so much harder than last! I saw my nhs dr for the 1st time in ages today to get a prescription and she started grilling me about smear tests (I actually had one in May somewhere else but she hadn't been sent a copy). For one reason or another she seemed to think I should have another one before the baby's born but I must say I don't like the idea of that - surely the cervix is best left well alone while the baby's in there?!

Emmalina - I agree with raindog - you sound like you have a great relationship with your MiL!

Hope everyone else is ok and good luck anyone coming up to their scans. For some reason mine's not til 30 Nov, when I'll be 22 weeks, but compared with last time I'm feeling much more relaxed about it so I'm not too bothered about the wait.

leander · 17/11/2004 21:39

Im not off for the weekend either just battling with the christmas shopping crowds, I wanna try and get it finished this week if i can.
Hi to all the newbies on here and to everyone else too.Don't get the chance to post often so have missed loads.Everything with me and babs is fine, 18 wks now nearly 1/2 way .I am suffering terrible with heartburn, headaches and spots I dont remember feeling this crap with ds,the only upside is that I deffinately look pregnant now and not fat I've got a nice little bump going on now.got my scan in 2 wks and cannot decide whether to find out the sex or not,ds is convinced he is getting a sister he wont entertain the thought of a brother!Midwife told me yesterday i have got low blood pressure which explains the dizzy spells but i can cope with that she couldn't get a proper count of the babs heartbeat cause everytime it heard its own beat it gave an almighty kick. Feeling loads of movement especially of a night when i lie down, not definate kicks but movement which is nice.
Just a quick note to 1st time mums:Please enjoy this pregnancy and all the rest and early nights you can get cause if you already have kids you dont get a minute to yourself (I miss going to bed for a nap after work sigh)
Sorry for such a long self indulgent post but i get carried away.

motherpeculiar · 17/11/2004 21:49

Hi all. Very envious of you health-clubbers. Loads of sympathy for CSA, I have a rotten cold too, my first this pg though so can't complain really. What's the name of that vaporiser thing you mentioned? it sounds great. I want one.

Agree that the bumps grow magically during the day. DH nearly collapsed last night when he saw the size of mine when I was heading to bed.

Went to top shop at oxford circus today and managed to offload a shedload of cash on some delightful little pieces. SO glad they are doing maternity now, H&M has gone badly downhill on that front since last time methinks. Badly need new shoes/boots now though, thinking of a trip to Bluewater on Friday to check out the offerings.

My next scan is on 7th December, think I'll be about 24 wks then , they seem to do this one fairly late at Kings. Good luck to everyone one else with theirs.

leander · 17/11/2004 21:52

I agree that maternity clothes in most places are rubbish. What size does the top shop gear go up too?

motherpeculiar I got some fab Ug-style boots from Feet Inc in Bluewater - perfect for pregnancy: dead comfy, easy to get on and off, and plenty of space for ankle growth!

I must pop into TS when I go up for my scan in a couple of weeks.

Raindog · 18/11/2004 12:22

I'm planning a Top Shop visit tonight and I wondered if anyone had got maternity jeans from there? There are two styles and I'm not sure which is better - the one with elastic inserts or the ones that are all stretchy at the top? When I looked in H&M the only jeans were xtra small size! I don't think so! and if not Topshop then where oh where can I buy some jeans?

My second scan isn't until 23 December - but I hope it will be a nice Christmas present! Has anyone else been offered an internal scan to assess the size of their cervix? Apparently they can tell whether you're likely to give birth very early. I guess I'll just have it done - I'm working on getting used to undignified situations!

csa · 18/11/2004 13:14

ah, the benefits of living in london motherpeculiar. unfortunately, the ts in cambridge is tiny and i am still contemplating a day out in london. but having a shopping girlie weekend coming up in a couple of weeks and hopefully, kingston won't be too bad a shopping area. i have to check when i get home tonight what the vapouriser thing is called but i think if you just went into the local pharmacy and said you wanted a eucalpytus & mentol vapouriser thing (you need to mix it with hot water) and you are preggie, they will probably have one. there are of course the branded ones (vicks, etc.) but this one seems to work fine. i will check and let you know.

speaking of maternity clothes, for those of you who lives in surrey, there is a great maternity wear shop called "Beautiful Mamas" in Reigate which is worth a visit.

seabird, with regards the smear test. i had one done after ds was born and because it was overseas the nhs did not have a copy. i sent them a copy of the results twice and still they haven't got it. so i have given up. but when i spoke to the dr and midwife about it, they were happy to take my word for it and happy to leave it till after the birth giving me the impression that they don't think it is a good idea to do a smear test while you are pregnant. so i will get a second opinion i think.

orangina · 18/11/2004 16:07

hi raindog.... I am planning a t-shop visit sometime soon as well, as i do have 1 pair of maternity jeans, but feel that another wouldn't go amiss..... re: the 2 styles, I find the ones with the big (ugly!) panel at the top very comfortable, but if you are wearing quite a close fitting top over, it can show, which isn't my FAVOURITE look....! the others show through less, IYSWIM, but I feel like I'm always yanking them back up (baggy bottom effect, also not a great look....!). Last time I went to TS, all the jeans I tried on (not very many I must admit, stamina low after a long day...), were very low cut and tight, again, not too flattering on the (or should that be "my"?!) butt.... depends on your shape, and perhaps I just pulled the wrong ones off the rack! Did someone say that Dorothy Perkins have good maternity jeans? Good luck!
