good for you seabird.

question - is anyone else getting headaches? i have been having this dull ache in my head since sunday and it's not going away which is really irritating

Seabird · 04/11/2004 09:26

Meant to say - good to hear from you Tallbird. Am thinking of you lots x

And Welcome Emmalina.

motherpeculiar · 04/11/2004 10:02

CSA - try to drink lots and lots and then some more water. I have been getting headaches too, normally when I'm a bit dehydrated

although I had such a crippler last w/e I gave in in the end and had some paracetamol. That did the trick!

Tallbird - good to hear from you. Hope everything went as well as it could. I saw your post on one of the other threads about CVS and possible outcomes and was well impressed at how sensitive you were able to be given what you've just been through. Thinking of you.

I'm off to the orthopaedic consultant at Kings this afternoon to see if they can diagnose the problem I've had with my back since delivery of DD. Hoping they'll have some advice re. options in labour this time round to minimise risk to my spine. Not really holding my breath though. I've had a thread on the childbirth forum and got some really good advice from fellow MNetters though which has been really helpful and given me much food for thought.

Hope all are well and that the spotties amongst us (with me at no. 1 position) are managing without recourse to too much coverstick (I HATE the stuff but should take out shares!!!)

MP

Seabird · 04/11/2004 15:13

csa you have my sympathy with the headaches - I've had them all the way through, and last time too, I think it's the worst symptom. I don't find much helps although that "For Head" roll on thingie gives a nice distracting tingling sensation!

In my new quest to have fun I took dd (11.5m) to the under-1s cinema to see Alfie this morning - well I can see why 1 is the age limit! Not the least stressful thing I could have done - and I have the bitemarks to prove it. Still feeling ok though, so not complaining. Hope you're all ok too.

DelGirl · 05/11/2004 14:03

hello all . Had a much better week this week thankfully. Sickness has all but disappeared along with (most) of the spots. My hair feels a bit better too, probably cos my diet's not quite so naff as it was. A bit of heartburn but coping but very tired still but that's ok. So, I guess you could say that i'm now in the blooming stage, not quite what i'd call it, more fat stage . Felt quite a bit of movement the last couple of days though no definate kicks yet, bring 'em on! I was walking up the stairs at work and it felt like I had a big lump (baby obviously) down the left hand side of my tum, most peculiar feeling but lovely, awwww. Still can't quite believe he/she is in there yet.

I had a consultants appt on Monday. The lady I saw was very nice but with one thing and another I was there for 3 hours. They had an emergency and another lady was screaming in the room next to me. Apparently she had high blood pressure ans was being rushed off for a c/s. Hope all was well with her. Anyway, I heard the heart beat again , she said it must be very strong as she found it straight away. No mean feat considering the amount of padding there is on top . I even got to hear the placenta as well, sort of slowish but regular whoosh sound. Both completely amazing and again overwhelming. She said everything was perfect, results wise etc apart from my waterworks. Not drinking enough apparently and have been told to drink at least 3 litres a day . This is where my confidence in her was dented as she said not to worry and get re-tested in a week. I then had a call from her senior colleague when I got home who said I should've been re-tested there and then as there was blood and protein (sorry if tmi) in it and I may need antibiotics. Still waiting to hear now but hopefully me and the baby are ok, if not drowning in water. Sorry it's so long and apologies for all the smiley's. Like I said before, i'm going to keep this as a reminder.

Hope all is well with all of you and special hugs for you Tallbird, hope you are doing ok.

Thanks for all your welcomes - nice to have time to tune in again. Delgirl - good to hear you may be starting to bloom. Funnily enough, so am I this week and we are due only one day apart! Feel like I have a lot more energy all of a sudden. Two things to recommend: Swimming - just started this week as I have been too knackered before and feels great being in the water. Secondly having your hair cut - I feel like a new woman! Also went to antenatal yoga for first time. I must say I hated that, but maybe I just went to the wrong class. Normally love yoga but this was just too hippy and nurturing. I wanted to laugh. Much more theraputic to talk to you lot.

shrub · 06/11/2004 15:49

hello emmalina - i'm another new mummy to this thread. glad to hear you are getting your energy back, i'm slowly finding mine again. know what you mean about some of the yoga classes. i went once when i was expecting ds2 - there was a competitive element to it too - lots of second/third time mums having homebirths, one said it was orgasmic! (well good for her) i don't think they are all like this, hopefully you will find the right class, it might be worth travelling to find the right one? i'm finding sleep a tricky one - you're not suppose to sleep on your back (i think someone says it puts pressure on the heart?) and front is getting difficult so i'm going from side to side until i get numb and then there is the constant visits to the loo. but at the end of the day its all worth it when you get to meet them for the first time - its like falling in love x a trillion! and life (thankfully) is never the same again

orangina · 06/11/2004 22:22

hello everyone... glad to hear you are all beginning to bloom. I'm still wiped out, but putting in a lot of hours at work, so hopefully will get some of that energy surge soon if I manage to take it a bit easy...! I started ante natal yoga a few weeks ago, and am so far really enjoying it. It is a bit touchy feely, but I'm quite enjoying being with other pregnant women (and some are nearly ready to go, what an eye opener...), and it feels as though it is doing me some good (keeping me sane etc!).... Emmalina, maybe you do need to shop around for a class that you prefer? I think a lot depends on the teacher... in the 1st class I went to, we had a replacement from the usual person who takes the class, and that was a bit full on. "Can you really feel the stretch in your perineum now?".... hmm.

Emmalina · 07/11/2004 21:03

Thanks for the yoga advice Shrub and Orangina. The comment about perenium stretching made me laugh I have just had a look on google and have found another class to try out, so I will give it a whirl. Orangina try not to work to many hours- it is not worth it. Remember the old work/life balance. Shrub you clearly have done this all before but Orangina , is it your first? It is mine.

bronniemuldoon · 08/11/2004 17:22

Yes I never got into the perineal massage thing last time around... Couldn't quite get to grips (pun not intended!) with the idea of the whole thing - apparently it can be quite painful, decided to give it a miss and take raspberry tablets instead. Although I ended up with a 3rd degree tear so on second thoughts maybe I should be putting in my order for almond oil early!!!!!

Delgirl, so lovely you're blooming AND get to feel the baby already. There's nothing quite like it. I like all the smileys - keep them up!

csa, seabird & mp sorry you've been blighted by headaches - I've been suffering too. I also resorted to a paracetemol last week and it did help but just trying to drink loads and trudge through. I've been feeling quite a bit better (especially since my weekend away ) but the sickness has come back between 9 and 11 am if I don't eat. Consequently I have an enormous pile of food to hand at these hours. May be paying the price now though as I went looking for maternity clothes at the weekend and was having to let the waistbands out quite a lot on some of them ...

Glad you got out for the night Seabird, it does help to lift your spirits although I'm such a lightweight these days I'm yawning my head off by 10pm. It was my birthday on Saturday and we went out for dinner with some friends and by 10.30 I was almost comatose - and unfortunately not because of alcohol!

aprilmeadow · 09/11/2004 00:20

Hi Everyone - It has taken me ages to catch up on everyones progress. I was so sad to hear about Tallbird.

Well there is definately no denying that i am pg now - the bump is well and truely there. I am in Florida at the moment which is quite handy as none of my clothes fit and they have outlets mall galore out here - my wardrobe is now filled with comfy clothes.

Felt the baby move this week - i am 17 weeks and 2 days - its such a weird/lovely feeling. DH cant wait to feel it himself.

Decided to have my hair cut and hi-lighted and feel like a new woman as a result!

Welcome to the new mummies to be.

Emmalina · 09/11/2004 15:04

Aprilmeadow - glad to hear the haircut worked for you too. Hope the headche girls are not suffering too badly.

17 weeks today and can't say I have had any movement yet. I keep thinking I am, only to discover two seconds later that it is wind . The only thing more flatulant than a vegetarian is a pregnant vegetarian in my experience.

Bump is a bit strange too. There is a hard section very low and then my tummy sticks out above it, which is soft on top. It makes me look like I have a nice round high bump, but I think this is actually just my stomach fat and the baby is still tucked inside low down! I had no morning sickness which whilst lucky, I think has mean't I have done some olympic size eating and have got a bit porky . All very confusing for a first timer.
I hope you have managed to see someone now Orangina. In my experience, so far, the whole NHS thing has been very shambolic and has not inspired confidence. Luckily DH's mum is a retired midwife so I am double checking with her. She is ace.
Her advice to mum's to be: midwives that have had children themselves and that are not religious are much better, eat sensibly, not big meals and frequently and try to limit stress and worry.
Talking of parents does anyone who has done this before, have any advice about overbearing parents. My mum is is being really dominearing about the baby already and it is driving me potty. I know she is excited , which is sweet, but I just know she is going to tell me what to do and be critical of my parenting.

motherpeculiar · 09/11/2004 17:44

Hi everyone

glad to hear you are all starting to bloom. My bump is definitely pronounced now and it's great. Know what you mean Emmalina about the soft pading on top - I reckon everything gets pushed upwards to make room for growing uterus. Perfectly normal. Just wait until your stomach feels like it is behind your ears

Sorry I have no advice about overbearing families. My mum passed away 10 years ago so I wouldn't mind a bit of interfering from time to time. I guess just try to remember that she is excited too. Once baby is born you may find she is not as bad as you expected, or you might (shudder) even like her interfering. I've a couple of friends who get really fed up because their parents don't seem interested at all. You can always have a little chat afterwards to lay down some ground rules if it gets unbearable. Anyway, as I say, I haven't been there but wish you luck!

Gotta go now and do battle to get on the bus home. In the rain. Aargh.

orangina · 11/11/2004 13:23

our thread is languishing at the bottom of the pile! hope the sun is shining for everyone today (it is in London, hurrah...), and that you are all well and happy. Baby now wriggles quite regularly, feeling better these days (with occasional witch-like hormonal storms to keep me (and poor dh!)on my/our toes), so not quite blooming yet, but MAYBE on the way?! Bumps feels like it looks huge, cannot understand those women who don't show before 20 weeks (!!!)... Emmalina, I absolutely cannot get anyone to see me for ante natal care before 20weeks+ (I have appt. for just under 2 weeks time), but have decided not to work myself up about it, I have enough stress in my life as it is! My mother is a gp, so she is getting all my queries and worries, and has even loaned me her blood pressure machine! Workload still heavy, but trying to make time for myself (I can feel a facial coming on...!).
Hope you're all well.....

Roobie · 11/11/2004 15:01

Midwife has just been for my booking in appointment (at last!). Everything is fine and the heartbeat could be heard loud and clear - it's was so reassuring to hear it!

Raindog · 11/11/2004 15:50

Hello everyone - I've been reading this thread for a while now and thought it was about time I actually posted something! I discovered MN by accident but it is such a great resource.

I'm due on 30 April so I think I just scrape by onto this thread, although DH is hoping that the baby will be born on 4 May (he's a Star Wars fan so May the 4th be with you.....)! If it does happen then s/he will NOT be called Leia or Luke!

I can't tell you how reassuring this thread is - thank you everyone! This is my first pg and it really is so good to hear about everyone else's sickness and so on (I never thought I'd think that!). I was sick (evening sickness for some reason) from 6 wks until 13 wks but it has cleared up as abruptly as it started. Apart from that I've had no problems so far.

I'm 28, live in SE London, and can't wait to feel this baby kicking!

orangina · 11/11/2004 16:03

Roobie, your mw comes to you? That sounds too good to be true.... I know I go to her/them for my booking in (to include bloods, scan etc) in a couple of weeks, and assumed it was always me doing the travelling... 1st timer, not at all clued up on the procedure....!

motherpeculiar · 11/11/2004 16:44

had been wondering where you all were!

Roobie - glad you've finally been seen and everything is fine

welcome to RAindog - glad you are starting to feel a bit better - I'm in SE london too - whereabouts are you?

my babe has started kicking like crazy the last few evenings - magic

take care

Roobie · 11/11/2004 16:48

Hi Raindog - glad your sickness has cleared up now.
Orangina, it's only for the booking in appointment that they come to your home it seems. For my ongoing check ups I have to go to the hospital. I would have just been as well going along there for the booking in anyway as the mw couldn't extract any blood from me (I have always had awkwardly deep veins)so have to go along tomorrow to the blood clinic for the phlebotomist to work her experienced magic on my arm!

Raindog · 11/11/2004 17:06

Hi Motherpeculiar - I'm in Forest Hill. It means I should be booked into Lewisham Hospital but I've opted for a home birth (fingers crossed it all goes to plan) and the midwife didn't even bat an eyelid! I had armed myself with lots of stats and research all prepared for battle and felt quite deflated that she just marked it on my notes. Maybe they do quite a few in my area. Whereabouts are you?

xoz · 11/11/2004 18:54

Hi everyone...
Just been catching up on the last week and a half of news. We've been away to Budapest and other bits of Hungary and had a great time.
Welcome Raindog. Nice to have you on board.
orangina, I think it varies as to where you are who goes where for the ante natal appts. I had dd2 in Glasgow and the appts were at the GP's office with a midwife or the hospital clinic with a consultant or a midwife. This time (in Swindon) the midwife came to my home for the booking in and it seems (not quite sure!!!) that all the rest of the appts are at the GP's office with one of 2 midwives. dd1 was born in Australia so that was different again!!!
I have been feeling definate movement in the last week. It's great. I remember with dd1 I wasn't sure that what I was feeling was movement until 22 weeks, but with dd2 and this one I know what it feels like so I can feel it , although faint, at 18 weeks. It's so nice at this stage when it doesn't hurt. Hope everyone else can feel it soon too.

Emmalina · 11/11/2004 21:09

Hi all, Welcome raindog. another SE Londoner - me too, not far from you. Well done on decisive home birth action. I have not thought about that yet -. I like the idea of home but a bit scared as it is the first time. Midwife has not brought up the subject of the birth at all! Congrats to Roobie for being booked in at last. MotherPeculiar thanks for the advice on bump and parents and how lovely that you have some kicks from babe. Xoz your holiday sounds nice. I dream of having a holiday but none on horizon. Too much work to do before mat. leave.

Meanwhile, I got my appointment for 20 week scan through today without any prompting I am amazed the hospital is this organised! There is hope for us all. We want to find out the sex at the scan- does anyone else want to know or are you going for a surprise?

Is anyone going to do NCT classes? I can't decide - my local one seems expensive -160 quid per couple for eight week course.
Hope you are all feeling Ok

Merlin · 11/11/2004 21:32

Hi everyone. - special hello to 'newgirl' Raindog.
Sounds like we're all just about blooming now - just the tiredness gets me, but that could be my age (42) and running around after a VERY, VERY, NAUGHTY 4 year old ( he has just got the devil in him this week and it's doing my head in!!) Looking forward to the 20 week scan and I think I felt a kick the other night, but not really sure. My ds was a lazy so and so and didn't move a lot (obviously making up for it now!!) Have also just got back into a bit of swimming - very relaxing, but I'm STARVING afterwards!

Lucy99 · 12/11/2004 18:56

Hello all! Glad to hear so many of you are feeling better. Still no obvious blooming going on for me but I live in hope! Bump seems to have got huge all of a sudden and started feeling movements about 3 days ago. Was so excited when i felt it!
In answer to nct question I have booked in but the first 2 branches I called were fully booked for April babies, can't believe how fast these things get booked up. I decided it was worth the money, if only for meeting a few people in my area with children. All my friends who already have babies have moved out of London for a nicer life!
Also, I wanted to ask if anyone else had found out they were rhesus negative? Been told I have to have the anti D injections which is fine but I keep hearing mixed reports as to whether this completely removes the risk of Rhesus disease? Does anybody have experience of this? x

Roobie · 12/11/2004 19:20

I don't think there is any risk from Rhesus disease with first babies. After the birth they check whether your baby is +ve and if so you get given an injection of anti-D which is supposed to protect you for subsequent pregnancies. Of course if you have had previous miscarriages then there is a slight risk that your bloodstream will have been 'infected' with antibodies - hence why they check for anti-bodies throughout each pregnancy. I must admit I still struggle with what this all means - so I can't say I feel particularly knowledgeable. dd was +ve and I had the injection after she was born so I guess they will be looking out for anti-bodies this time round in order to give an injection during this pregnancy if deemed necessary.
