Cot beds with drop sides:

from Mothercare
Newbury £170
Hampshire £230
Cambridge £200

John Lewis
Ellen £200

Hope this helps

I looked for drop side cotbed, but gave up quite quickly and bought Brittany from Baby's-R-Us. It has one lots of pg. mag awards, comes in white or pine and only £140, so sacrificed the drop sides.
Thanks Csa, kelly and Gem for pushchair advice. Kelly where in Croydon have you seen the Aria? I am in South Norwood, not far from you. Gem, have you already got your Jane delivered? I heard they are great but can take several months to be delivered.
Merlin - my pg. friend has sleeping problems and drinks that special melatonin rich milk. She thinks it helps.
Went to first NCT class last night. Anyone else signed up? I really enjoyed it, although it was a bit scary. We had to hold a bag with the same weight as a full term baby, placenta, uterus and and it was really heavy (1 stone). This was to show us how much weight would be pressing on the pelvic floor in third trimester, to encourage us to do the pelvic floor exercises. I tell you, get squeezing girls -incontinence awaits.

Hello All & Welcome Kelly - how exciting to have twins on this thread . You're due the same day as me but like you say they're not very likely to wait til then! Do you know what sex they are?

Think I've chosen my pushchair . Went to Liliput today and tried DD in the Mountain Buggy Urban Double. She seemed very comfortable and it's a dream to push. Will order from kiddicare soon.

Off to Tenerife on holiday tomorrow with DD and my mum. The forecast is for rain every day so it may be a week of scrabble and books!

have a good week everyone xx

Gem1355 · 13/01/2005 17:39

Hi Seabird,
I'm expecting two boys. I had my 28 week growth scan yesterday, and they are weighing 3lb, and 3lb3oz, which seems huge!! They are doing very well, but have both turned breech, so at this rate with their size and position it will be a planned c-section

I had the urban single and loved it, def really easy to push, I would go for the double if I had the space.

006,
I never had the pram, but I had a cossatto stroller for when I needed a lighter weight buggy, and I never had any probs with it. I found it was lighter than similar mcClarens too.

csa · 14/01/2005 13:59

thanks bluemint. i will check them out. i am now in a predicament of whether to get a cotbed that will last for a few years or accept a cot from a friend of ours to use in the first year. only problem is she has given us the measurement of the mattress and it is 112 x 56 cm and i can't find anywhere which does that measurement so i'm not sure if it is the correct one. the predicament is if we wait till we get the cot and then find out that the measurement is indeed 112 x 56 and we can't get a new mattress for it, we will end up having to go out and buy a cot/cotbed when the sales are all over. sigh.... maybe i am worrying too much and should just go with the flow.

btw, have not bought a single item for baby and starting to get a little concern that babe is going to arrive and i will realise that ds' stuff is not suitable

on another topic, anyone going for home birth?

qsack · 14/01/2005 14:49

hi all
haven't looked at this thread since i posted back in august! it's all been a bit crazy. due april 9th, ds1 is 18mths and looking at double buggy's. think i'm going for an E3 (like the rest of the world!) need to choose between kiddicare, practical pushchairs and pramworld. anyone not had a good experience with any of them?

motherpeculiar · 14/01/2005 18:41

Hi everyone

welcome to anyone new I've missed and welcome back qsack

nothing much to report - at the uncomfortable and insomniac stage already which is a bit of a blow but I syuppose not TOO much longer to go now (YIKES)

trying not to be too nervous about the labour and birth - booked in for home but am a bit of a wimp so we'll have to see how that goes

going to check out the E3 tomorrow - hopefully will manage to find a changing table too to save my knackered back this time around

SEabird- dead jealous of your trip to tenerife, even if it islots of books and scrabble- sounds idyllic to me.Hope you get a bit of sun too though.

take care everyone
X

Hi everybody, seems like we've all got the shopping bug! I have bought most things we need now. Got a Graco travel system thing in sale from Babies R Us. Ran in shop with DH, figured we could fold it easily and it wasn't too heavy, looked at v low price tag in sale and paid for it. Can barely decide what I want for lunch at the mo so the thought of shopping around loads and then deciding filled me with dread! Got a feeling that after a few months will dump travel system in favour of cheap fold up buggy anyway so didn't want to spend loads! Off to Cape Town on Monday for work trip so still hoping a sympathetic check in person might upgrade me. Had midwife appointment earlier this week and they found glucose in my urine. My mum had gestational diabetes in both her pregnancies so they think it might be start of that - hope not! Unfortunately it did not seem to be enough of a reason to get me out of the trip! Anybody else had experience of this in previous pregnancies? x

Gem1355 · 15/01/2005 20:50

Hi
How is everyone?

Howz the shopping going? i've just got to get a steriliser and just creams and milk etc and i'm practically ready for when baby girl arrives!

hope evryone is feeling well.

orangina · 15/01/2005 23:07

ok, it's official, i must be in some form of denial as I haven't yet got a THING for the poor baby.... Mentally (though not actually) I "have" the things my sister is kindly lending me, and I have "decided" on the cot to buy (though haven't actually bought it yet...). Am off on our sunshine trip on monday, MUST MUST MUST tackle it on our return! Meanwhile, good luck lucy on your SA flight (will keep fingers crossed for an upgrade for you, stick your tum out a LOT when you check in!), and hope everyone stays well and happy in this 3rd trimester, is this the home strait (sp?) now?!?!

orangina · 15/01/2005 23:08

oh and motherpeculiar, good luck with sleeping.... perhaps what you need is some fresh hungarian air !!!

motherpeculiar · 15/01/2005 23:23

ta Orangina - tbh have been so busy with other things (and the old mind going doesn't help) I haven't organised anything yet - at this rate babe will be born on Easyjet

HAve a great time in the sun - plenty of time for buying stuff when you get back - I remember leaving it all until about 4 weeks to go last time round. CAn't remember - is this your first?

checked out the E3 today - DD loved it so we'll probably go for it. Can't imagine getting on and off public transport easily - mind you, may just settle for never leaving the house as it is so hard with one I can't imagine ever getting anywhere before sunset with two - then again, maybe I just need to be a bit more organised

enough of my rambling - to everyone who is going away - have fun and I'll wish for upgrades for you all!!

Hi
Hope everyone is well and all had a good weekend

Well i'm not looking forward to my night ahead as i'm seeing father to be for a heart to heart.

have a nice evening

Merlin · 17/01/2005 16:36

Hi Gem

Hope this evening goes OK, do you generally get on alright or are things a bit difficult? Just thinking today that I really ought to start thinking about what I need to get babywise - got loads of DS1 stuff in logt - must get it down and sort through!!!

Gem1355 · 17/01/2005 18:21

Well he doesn't really talk to me he try's to avoid me at all possible cost's.
But we are meeting tomorrow now.

I've got nearly all my baby stuff just little things now!!

How much of DD baby gear do you have in the loft?

alux · 17/01/2005 19:40

With so many talking about having bought (almost) everything. I hope I am not procrastinating. So far I only have a pushchair (w/ carseat) and MIL has promised a cotbed. I am waiting for half-term break to blast the shopping list. I will be 31 wks then.

I have done loads of reseach on re-useable nappies. Anyone else planning of using these?

Gem1355 · 17/01/2005 19:57

Yeah i'm planning on using bambino mio, as my aunt works as a nursery supervisor and swears by them!!!

csa · 17/01/2005 21:40

006, is the britax car seat part of a travel sysytem or just on its own?

Merlin · 17/01/2005 22:29

Well, got all the equipment stuff - pram, cot, bath, sterliser etc. Need to check out babygros, bedding etc. And even if it's another boy, the clothes will be for the wrong season (DS was born end of October).

motherpeculiar · 18/01/2005 11:11

Gem, hope all goes well with dad to be. You sound very organised otherwise, lucky you.

Like Merlin - I have to get into the loft (or wherever it was we put all that stuff...) to see what we've got. Hadn't thought about the fact that this babe will be different season to DD. D'oh! good news though, an excuse to buy some cute baby stuff that DH can't argue with

Alux and Gem, I'm thinking of re-usables with this babe. In fact am paying my local Nappy Lady agent a visit this afternoon - they offer lots of free advice and let you look at stuff - so I'll let you know how I go. Take a look at this site if you're interestedin finding out more. I've found them REALLY helpful so far.

Still haven't ordered the E3 (WHY oh WHY am I such a ditherer???) but aim to do so today.

bronniemuldoon · 18/01/2005 12:18

Hi everyone and welcome to the newcomers. I'm planning to get myself sorted with all the extra bits and pieces and sorting out DS's baby stuff when I'm on maternity leave at 35 weeks (eek - only 6 weeks away now). Does anybody else feel as if April is galloping towards us at an alarming rate?? Feeling pretty unprepared in every sense and I haven't really given a lot of thought to what's going to happen when I've got 2 to look after (I'm sure I'm going to be hanging onto DH's leg begging him not to go on his first day back to work after the baby's born ). I'm concentrating on getting DS settled into a big bed and new bedroom so my evenings are taken up with returning him to bed at the moment. Ah well, better now than when No.2 makes an appearance. Like you Motherpeculiar I MUST make a decision about double buggy v. buggy board. Too many conflicting bits of advice. Don't want to spend out loads on a double buggy that then doesn't get used but equally don't want to spend all my time out and about with a whinging DS....
