Wow Emmalina you sound on great form! Must have a look in Primark for skirts - I love Primark - great for babyclothes too. I forget, is this your first pregnancy or not?

I'm still on cloud 9 from the novelty of getting my energy back. DH has been nursing the hangover from hell today after a long rugby-watching session and I've been feeling very superior and generally marvellous (while still making him look after dd of course since I did my bit yesterday and during his lie in!) I'm so enjoying being able to have a full diary again (playgroups, trips to B&Q to buy paint - ooh the glamour!)

bronniemuldoon · 22/11/2004 14:08

Hi guys

Wow, what a lot to catch up on! Firstly, Welcome to Fishie.

Raindog I've not heard of the cervix sizing scan either, think it must be a teaching hospital thing.

Re: the great clothes debate, I found jeans really hard to find this time round. The ones that suited me best in the end (ie didn't make me look too much like the back end of a sofa) were from Next. Inherited a pair with normal front but stretchy sides from a friend and bought another pair with the stretchy top from e-bay as couldn't find any I liked anywhere. Bit of a bargain as they are practically brand new, nice bootleg cut AND long enough (I hate it when they're too short) and all for £10. In fact have got a bit addicted to e-bay recently. If you're looking for nice stuff have any of you looked on the worldwide search? There are loads of brand new Gap maternity clothes in America. I ended up buying a really nice brand new Gap maternity coat (again couldn't find one here for love nor money)for £17 - I think it ended up being £24 with p&p. It's because the exchange rate is so good for us at the moment. God, I bet you all think I'm a real cheapskate now (bows head in shame).

Liked the sound of the TS combats - must look out for those when I go and do my epic Xmas shopping trip in a week or so. Does anybody have any recommendations for nice jumpers/cardies - finding there aren't any and I'm freezing!

Strawberry, how was your health farm? I had a lovely time with my sister and friends, felt thoroughly pampered. Although got home to find DH hadn't done ANY of the housework so ended up putting on 2 washes, doing the washing up, changing the bedding and giving DS his tea. GRRRRRRRRRR! He did look suitably shamefaced (DH not DS) and bought a takeaway for our tea. Still, it meant I chipped my lovely (and ludicrously expensive) french manicure - double GRRRRRRRRR.

Good luck with all the scans coming up. I've got mine on Thurs and am still debating finding out the sex. Very tempted!

orangina · 22/11/2004 16:04

hello all, and welcome back from spa-world bronniemuldoon! My scan is on wednesday, definitely am NOT wanting to know the sex... it is my 1st and I'm finding it hard going enough as it is without also having no surprise at the end of it! What am I talking about, of course it will be a surprise, whatever it is, I have NO idea what I am going to feel like, I can't imagine myself a mummy at all (I can just about conjure up a vague image of me pushing a pram in the sunshine... you see, reality denial already....!)...
am inspired by all you health farm visitors, and have asked dh for a day at a spa voucher for xmas (not sure which one yet, I think I get to specify, hurray!).... meanwhile, the great maternity wear hunt continues.... am also finding it hard to find warm winter woolies. Formes have some nice things, but they are £££, hennes and TS hopeless for wooly tops, maybe mens stuff? Would recommend Zara for jersey tops though, lots of empire line things (also TS non maternity), just go for 1-2 sizes bigger than usual.
It's official, I'm obsessed with maternity wear. Some kind of displacement activity as I can't yet face the whole baby clothes and nursery thing yet (too soon, a bit superstitious).....

bronniemuldoon · 22/11/2004 16:49

Like the sound of the empire lines in Zara, orangina. Unfortunately we don't have one in Bristol - will have a trawl and see if they are online.

PS DO the health farm thing - you won't regret it!!

leander · 22/11/2004 17:18

Glad you had a nice time Bronniemuldoon.I got some nice jumpers from h+m but thats about it, i am getting really fedup looking for mat clothes especially a coat I mean arent pg ladies supposed to wear coats.I think I will go and have a trawl on the internet can you reccomend a site? I won the mumsnet comp for The maternity wear ,as lovely at it is to get 2 Items I think I will have to put money to the £100

orangina · 22/11/2004 17:47

Hi Leander, like bronniemuldoon, I have been loitering on ebay with intent to buy gap maternity stuff from the us.... there are a couple of ebay stores (can't recall now what they're called, just put "gap maternity wear" in the search engine, and they will all pop up) that sell whole maternity wear packages.... ie, for $200/300/400 you get 2 x trousers, 2 x skirts, 3 x tops, 1 x coat, 2 x sweaters, etc. Always thought I could re-sell on ebay what didn't suit. Am a bit fed up with trawling the shops, gets knackering and whole weekends disappear like that! Good chance of a coat there (ebay). Check out the gap website for good pics of the current ranges, and then see if you can find them on ebay....
bronnie, don't think you can get zara online (wot, no zara in bristol?!), they update their ranges so regularly (ie rip off whatever is in demand elsewhere at hight prices), that it would be impossible to keep up, IYSWIM. Good luck everyone... although it seems a waste of £ to buy too many maternity clothes, it is a bit soul destroying not being able to dress the ever changing shape in what we want, no?!

orangina · 22/11/2004 17:50

ps: go to ebay.com, not ebay.co.uk

orangina · 22/11/2004 17:53

try this (don't think you can click directly though, i'm not clever enough for that)

rydercup · 23/11/2004 07:54

Hi Ladies - well had my scan yesterday and all was great! Baby very chilled out for the radiographer so she was able to look at everything without sending me off for a walk/jump/run to get it moving. Even though this is second time for me, its truly amazing what you can see - saw the baby having a drink of fluid and also saw the babies ear..........wow!!! Measuring 19 weeks - surprised as my size looks about full term (I exaggerate!). Didn't find out the sex...not even tempted - think I was more tempted first time round! Anyway - time to get going.......meeting a friend for a very civilised coffee this morning whilst my little one is in nursery......oh the glamorous life of a full time mummy (yeh right!!!!!) - that is of course after I have cleaned the house, done the shopping, sorted the dry cleaning...need I go on!!! Good luck to those of youb with scand coming up - will keep posted!

fishie · 23/11/2004 09:38

hello everyone - congratulations rydercup on your scan. when does everyone else have theirs? leander you are so right about coats, all i've seen is a puffa jacket (like i want to look more puffy!)or some long cardies. neither is going to do but i can't face wearing men's anoraks. and as for jumpers.....

Raindog · 23/11/2004 11:29

Gosh - all this interest in clothes and shopping makes me think everyone must be blooming! And the longer posts shows that energy levels are rising as promised! Congratulations to all of us - we're nearly half way there! I'm so pleased everyone's scans are going well and I can't wait for mine which still seems ages away on the 22nd. Oh well, I guess there'll be more to see.

Good luck with finding a coat - I've given up and also I've realised that I've got to buy some Christmas presents at some point so can't spend everything on maternity wear! I know it's because I really want to buy baby things but don't feel I should until after about 24 weeks, so maternity wear is the next best thing!

I wish I felt like I was blooming today, but I've just got a stinking cold and am feeling a bit miserable

Lockets - that sounds glam! Unfortunately my ever-expanding derriere means that ponchos are a real no-no for me. I just look like an enormous balloon. I'm jealous .

Orangina, I think I should start a petition for a Zara in Bristol as everyone raves on about it and I haven't a clue. Also glad I'm not the only one with a bad e-bay habit although haven't been on for at least 10 days so getting better!

Good news on the scan Rydercup. I've got mine on Thursday so hoping baby will behave and smile nicely for the camera. You're very restrained not asking the sex. I wasn't bothered at all last time and we waited for the surprise but this time I'm itching to know. Thinking it's a boy for some reason (probably because I've already got a DS). Will have to wait and see.

Emmalina · 23/11/2004 17:35

Off sick today with terrible headache and cold but at least I have a chance to catch up with all of you. Like the poncho/hat combo idea - too late for me having already bought an oversized dufflecoat with my little legs pocking out the bottom. Oh well, at least I can get it done up. Glad the baby performed at the scan,Rydercup. It will be great hearing about everyones over the next month or so. Mine was round the wrong way at the Nuchal scan would not move. Twenty minutes, two radiographers and a consultant later and after much jabbing me repeatedly in the stomach with the ultrasound wand, he finally shifted. It wasn't quite how I imagined it would be, so i am hoping he gets his act together this time. Bronnie I feel sure mine is a boy too.
Have spent the day for once not looking at pg mags and instead looking at homemags instead. Have to decorate the whole flat, having just recently bought it, before April and being pg has been a massive distraction. Isn't it hard to focus on other things?
E-bay. I hear it is great but everyone I know who uses it is utterly addicted. I'm scared of even looking

Hi all

Sorry to hear about your mum 006, hope she gets better very soon, it's been a tough year for you all hasn't it?!

Glad to hear the scans are going well. I've got mine next Wednesday. So looking forward to seeing my baby again who's now on the move daily it seems . I hope I get a better sonographer than last time. I am a bit nervous with it being the major scan but keeping every thing crossed that everything will be ok. I just hope the baby keeps its legs crossed to as I don't really want to know the sex but I know I will look. Who wants to bet I find out? No, I must be strong, it's the biggest nicest surprise anyone could have so I hope I find some self restraint, which'll be a 1st!

I've got a few days off this week so have been trying to do some xmas shopping but i'm so bloomin tired, it's ridiculous. Do you think it's cos i'm not doing anything and sleeping tooo much? One minute i'm fine, the next i'm sick with tiredness. Still it beats the sickness and I suppose I should get used to it as i'm going to feel like this for a long time to come lol. Having my 1st cup of caffeinated coffee (this pg) right now to keep me awake cos i'm away for a few days and need to some stuff. Bet i'll be awake all night now . Sorry, rambling yet again, side effect of living on your own. Can't wait when I have this baby to ramble to endlessly poor mite.

Hello
Emmalina - poor you. I hope your cold is clearing up. I know how you feel because I've been inhaling vapur rub and menthol sticks and all sorts of stuff (normally I'd just take a couple of paracetemol!). Hope you feel better soon.

006 - is your mum okay? It must be awful for you, but I hope she is recovering now. Hopefully the New Year can be a bit more relaxing for you.

Delgirl - don't know how on earth you've managed without caffeine so far! I figured that I've got to have some vice, and since I'm not drinking alcohol then it might as well be tea! Babe will have to get used to it at some point

I've finally felt my baby kicking! It's just the loveliest feeling. I wasn't sure at first, but the last few days it has been definite - I think I've got a real lively one in there!

bronniemuldoon · 24/11/2004 13:41

006 hope your Mum is getting better. How stressful must that be. Sounds like you're being a real trooper though and coping really well.

Liked the Xmas pressies you've bought (I saw that conversation too and thought it was a great idea). I've just got to get my arse into gear and get my list sorted out. I just keep putting it off... Am going to order a turkey for 12 people this week (gulp!). Am I mad hosting Christmas at home???? Just couldn't face the endless driving to various relatives houses although we somehow seem to have ended up committing to travelling to see family on Boxing Day, the 27 and the 28 Dec anyway. Not quite sure how that happened.

Delgirl, I couldn't see the sex last time either (even though I didn't want to know) so unless it's VERY obviously a boy I reckon you might be OK. In fact, I spent a lot of my last 20 wk scan trying to work out what the hell I was looking at as they show you all sorts of cross sections of the baby. It's really weird but kind of wonderful too!

xoz · 24/11/2004 15:18

Hi everyone. Hope all the colds etc are improving and that everyone is having good scans.

006 - I do hope your mum is still getting better and that you're managing with the stress okay.
My scan is on Friday, although I had one at 12 weeks too. I had no idea of the sex with either of my dd's, but I have been told that they can't be "certain" just by looking unless it's a boy. One of my friends told me that you can tell if it's a boy or a girl by the heart rate too. I don't want to know what we're having (gotta have something to look forward to at the end of all that work! ) so she didn't tell me what the all important "number" is, but did say that boys have faster heart rates than girls.....
We've just about done all our Chrismas shopping for the families back in Asutralia coz we have to post it next week, but I haven't even started thinking about dh or dd's yet. We're going to the Christmas markets in Nuremberg next weekend and I'm hoping we might get some nice things there for dd's. It's supposed to have a lot of toys. Anyone ever been? We're really loking forward to it, but I'm going to have to be REALLY self controlled to not drink any Gluhwein! It doesn't get cold enough back home for that kind of thing..... We've also finally booked our tickets to return to Australia permanently, leaving January 11. Back to the lovely heat and humidity I go for the last 3 months of the pg, but at least then we'll have baby sitters on tap and might get to go out/rest occassionally for the first time in 3 years!!!

Bronnie, I had to laugh in sympathy at your post about the whole family thing. I'm going to make sure that I enjoy this one, our last without the pressures and demands of family. It's been really nice to have that all removed for the last three years.... as much as I love both our families, Christmas has always been VERY stressful for me because our families have such different expectations, so dh & I always fought a lot about who what when where and how often we had to visit....
Sorry this post has been a bit me me me. We only booked the airfares home yesterday so I'm now getting a lot of mixed feelings about it all....

bronniemuldoon · 24/11/2004 16:41

Wow xoz - I am green with jealousy! Where will you live in Oz? Both my DH and I did year long stints over there and LOVED it. We're hoping to go back at some point for a holiday with kids in tow (yikes!)which I guess will be a very different experience. I bet it will be lovely to see your family again. I can't rate having your rellies around enough for the babysitting opportunities - it's great. Although you're right, it does present more of a problem at Xmas. We both have divorced parents so have 4 sets to haul ourselves round.

PS I'm sure a small glass of Gluhwein next week wouldn't go amiss...

orangina · 25/11/2004 09:22

hi everyone. I hope the colds are all getting better and that christmas shopping is under control (must start mine soon...). Had my 20 week scan yesterday afternoon, which was great.... was so worried beforehand about being able to tell the sex etc (which we don't want to know), but I could barely tell what was what (head? tummy? both look very round....), let alone anything else! The creature didn't stop wriggling and moving around, had to go off for a walk half way through to see if I could get it into a more useful position for the scanner, but it wasn't having any of it, so I'm back again in 2 weeks! Quite pleased really, nice to see him/her, even if I don't really know what I'm looking at! All seems to be fine, and it was my 1st MW appt (finally!), so had all the bloods etc done then too. Funnily enough, no-one seemed to bat an eyelid about it being my 1st at 37 yrs old, so perhaps i'm not a very old mum after all?!

fishie · 26/11/2004 12:14

ooh - awfully quiet here.

006 best wishes for your mum and good luck all with xmas preparations.

i've had the results of my quadruple test, which are good. so relieved, was quite convinced i'd be told to have an amnio and didn't know what to do, now will try to relax and enjoy pg.

our heating isn't working, which is bearable, but very little hot water so can't wash my hair and look a total fright (i'm curly). hopefully it will be fixed tonight or i'll have to take to a hat. wish i'd bought my swimming stuff to work, will have to wait till monday now.

Roobie · 26/11/2004 13:16

Hi everyone - looking forward to hearing how all your scans go. Mine is next Thursday and I can't wait to find out the sex. We found out with dd and I didn't regret it for one minute - I can't imagine not knowing until the actual birth!
With regard to bump sizes, I am not very big at all (I was pleased to hear the baby's heartbeat at my recent booking in appointment - without that I was seriously beginning to doubt there was anything in there!) and still in normal clothes. I didn't show much with dd though until quite late on so I guess it is just down to my size (not fat, but a 'sturdy' size 14/16) -there is obviously plenty of room for baby in there without having to stick out the front too much!
Off to Bluewater this afternoon to have a look for a cheap evening/ball dress that fits me - my office party on 16th Dec is black tie this year and despite my small bump I can't for the life of me imagine being able to squeeze into my usual 'old faithful' dress that I normally wheel out for these occasions.
Anyway, hope everyone is bearing up - is anyone still suffering from ms? Thank gawd mine seems to have gone now and the energy levels are noticeable improving.

csa · 26/11/2004 13:31

hi all, haven't really logged on for a week and wow, everything seems to be happening.

006, hope your mum is getting better by the day

having my 20 week scan in 1.5 weeks time. don't think we will be finding out the sex this time. did the last time round.... hmm, hopefully, we won't be swayed at the scan as i think it may be a nice surprise

oh, for all those doing christmas shopping - there is another thread somewhere on MN with discount codes. used the one on ELC (MERRY) and saved 20% - fantastic! been doing loads of shopping over the web (amazon, elc, lakeland) - so much easier without having to battle with the crowds, find parking and lug shopping bags around. but on saying that, having a girlie shopping weekend this weekend (ds with grandma and dh golfing) so going to have to practice some restraint
