Hi Pixie!!

Thinking of you! Let's hope this baby makes an appearance soon!

Callum now weighs 4lb 15oz. the tube will stay in until he is strong enough to take enough milk himself.

RGPargy · 30/10/2007 12:23

Excellent stuff Sparkly!! He seems to be putting on weight nicely now.

OP posts:
sparklygothkat · 30/10/2007 12:26

he always put on weight with the tube in, as soon as its removed he stops gaining or loses weight. he is still only having breastfeeds and EBM.

RGPargy · 30/10/2007 12:51

It's good that you're still BF him. Well done! I'm sure his weight will continue to gain eventually, even without the tube.

Fiona - Mustard Pork Chops recipe here:

2 pork chops, approx 450g total
2 teaspoons garlic oil
125ml cider
1 x 15ml tablespoon grainy mustard
75ml double cream

  1. Cut off the fat/rind from the chops and bash them briefly but brutally with a rolling pin between two pieces of cling film.

  2. Heat the oil in a heavy based pan and cook the chops over a moderately high heat for about 5 minutes a side. Remove them to a warmed plate.

  3. Pour the cider into the pan, still over the heat, to de-glaze the pan. Let it bubble away for a minute or so, then add the mustard and stir in the cream.

  4. Let the sauce continue cooking for a few minutes before pouring over each plated pork chop.

Et voila!

Fiona76, I traveled to Spain with my DS when he was 4 months old and it was fine, I know NZ is a wee bit farther than that but it should be ok. If you are planning to breastfeed they recommend doing it especially during take off and landing because of the changes in cabin pressure. And his passport photo is just soooo cute! The security staff at the airport always smile when they see it.

I am 39 weeks today! LO wasn't engaged at last week's midwife's appointment but I think it can happen at the last minute in second and subsequent pregnancies? I tried a curry and other things with DH last night but no luck so far...

fiona76 · 30/10/2007 13:16

Thanks for recipe and advice re travel. I am planning to BF and have heard that its good to feed during flight. I think it will be far easier to travel with a 3 month old than a 3 year old!!
I don't have any cream but have some sour cream so I might try that I'm sure it will be similar. Yum.

iris66 · 30/10/2007 13:16

Hi all - just a v quick one while DH is driving DS around to get him to sleep (Elliot hasn't woken for a feed yet so I'm making scones for DS' playgroup halloween party tomorrow)

Pixiefish - sorry it's going so slowly for you. Elliot was hardly even glancing my cervix when I went in but came down pretty quickly once my waters were broken. Have you a ball you could bounce on? Keep yer chin up it wont be long now. {{hugs}} and lots of opening up vibes coming your way

Choudru - re magic pants: they're really tight and I only just got the 14s on on day 2 (with big pants underneath btw) I was in DD's size 10 top shop hipsters before pg. I've moved to size 12 today so if you (or anyone else) wants to buy the size 14 from me do yell!

I think I've missed something...is Anna in labour? good luck if so

choudru · 30/10/2007 14:10

Iris - I think mine should be arriving tomorrow so I will have a look at them and assess them size-wise. If you don't mind me asking - what size were you pre-pregnancy? Did you buy 2 sizes up or one size up?

RG - very chuffed for you that you are reaching your target date. I guess you can start looking forward to a lovely homebirth

Sparkly - great news on Callum's weight. I know every baby is different but how did your other premmie children do in the first few weeks after birth weight-wise?

I have just been to the MW. Baby is 2/5 engaged which explains all the pressure I'm feeling on pelvis at the moment. She said it all looks ready to go, but then baby could make me wait a week or so (ARGHHHHH!!!)

DH has taken a day off today so I'm getting to put my feet up a bit more than usual.

LOM - I am being blinded by the shine of your halo from my house. Well done on the swimming - I haven't been swimming ONCE in pregnancy this time. Shame on me.

Fiona - As for baby books - I have 3.

  1. One by Tracey Hogg called 'The Baby Whisperer',
  2. one by the baby guru who's name we must not mention and
  3. 'What to expect in the first year' - can't remember authors name.

Have been reading the first 2 again recently during my soaks in clary sage (). Both have quite different approaches to babycare but I will be reading them and taking out the bits that I like from each of them. They both have good guidelines on breastfeeding/expressing routines but I wouldn't follow them to the second IYKWIM. Combined with the experience I have from DS - that should see me through.

The third book I bought because DS was prem and I wanted to know what a full term baby would be doing month by month to know how behind/on track DS was. It's a good book because it doesn't make you feel like it's a disaster if your baby isn't doing certain things. It lists things in terms of what baby 'should' be doing, 'probably' be doing and 'might even' be doing.

Your best bet is to flick through them before buying anything as one book might not appeal to you as much as another.

We're off out for some fresh air so catch up later...

Pixie - keep us informed - thinking of you honey!

choudru · 30/10/2007 14:14

Oh silly me - just realised you've already told me what size you were Iris...

fiona76 · 30/10/2007 14:21

I'm so bored today and feeling a little with the world. DH is home and playing a game on the computer and for some reason it is irritating me so much. I think its cause I can hear the click click of the mouse. Shame he s going to work soon and I'll probably miss him then.

I know I'm being silly and hormonal but I can't help it. Maybe I need to go out and get some fresh air. I think I just want LO here now. What are you guys up to today.

littleoldme · 30/10/2007 15:06

Sparkly - Great news about Callum. Sounds like you are all doing brilliantly.

Pixie -Sorry it so all slowly for you. Lots of love.

RG - ta for the Chop recipe. I love the phrase , " ... then bash breifly but brutally." Only Nigella.

Iris - Ta for the info on pants I was about a 14 before Pg so I guess I should get an 18 and 16. .

Have just got back from a physio appt. We both got an attack of the giggles as she was trying to help me wriggle into a tubi grip.It made me feel like a tape worm. Oh for the heady days of lacey lingerie.

The swimming was lovely. So nice to feel weightless. Don't think I'll make many more times though as I'm having problems fitting my boobs in my cossie

Choudru - Hope you had a good walk. It's gorgeous today. Good news that the baby is engaging. By this time next week you'll either have a baby, or me round with a cake . It's a win win situation

Fiona - Hope you find something happy to do. Only an hour until Deal or No Deal

LizzieO · 30/10/2007 15:19

Hi everyone,

hope your all good, i seem to be in v good moood today with lots of energry, i went swimming yesterday whilst DS was at nursery and spent the rest of the day absolutely knackered, had to lounge on sofa whilst abandoning DS to CBeebies

Checked out local toddler group this am, then went to park as weather is so gorgeous, so now we are back at home all cosy

Tonysmum - i'm 39 weeks tom and everyone keeps saying oohh your still v high aren't you, thing is as DS was 8 weeks prem, this preg is kind of like 1sta dn 2nd pregnancy so nothing is going to be by the book.... the i have to go and see teh MW next Friday when i will be 40 + 2, she was making noises
about elective CS as inducing cld be dangerous due to already having had mergency CS

Iris66 - its so funny that you already have your little Elliott and into the routine, you seem to be taking it all in your stride, how are you managing with the whole sleep deprivation thing ? how often is Elliott up during night

SGK - hope little Callum continues to put on weight, sending positive vibes to you all x
choudru - have they mentioned anything to you about possible CS if you go overdue

Pixiefish - hope everything goes well for you and LO sounds like it cld happen anytime

Fiona76 - hope your day gets better, try chocolate / really good DVD / nice walk if weather is as gorgeous as it is here / buying stuff on internet

love and stuffing
Lxxxx

iris66 · 30/10/2007 15:34

lizzie - Elliot's routine is nothing I've done I can assure you!!! He just sleeps (and for that I am eternally grateful!) Every 3 hours or so he wakes for a feed - he has a longer look around late morning & early evening (so far) and has been waking only at 2am and 5am for a feed at night (after cluster feeding 8-10.30ish each night). I'm under no illusion though, this could all change dramatically over night so I'm just enjoying the novelty of a baby that seems to have read the books

It's getting really exciting waiting for everyone to have their babies . I'm almost more excited with the anticipation now than I was waiting for mine to come!

Pixiefish - 1,2,3 puuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuush

fiona76 · 30/10/2007 15:47

Had chocolate, DH is off to work and I'm feeling better. Its lovely to have him around but he kinda gets under my feet and I get annoyed I guess it must be because when we were both working full time we hardly saw each other during the week and now I'm always here lurking. Need to get out more. My work mates are having a wee party for me on thursday so can't wait for that and to catch up with all the staff room gossip.

I tried out my TENS machine before its cool quite a weird sensation but it could really help. DH had a go as well he loved it and said he might have to have 2 of the pads on him so he could experience it with me- fat chance!!!

I want an Elliot!!!! Where are the pics by the way- you should have loads of time on you hands when that angel child is sleeping....

RGPargy · 30/10/2007 16:04

Afternoon!

Tonysmum - Hope your LO engages soon! You're exactly 3 weeks ahead of me!

Choudru - yup, i am just settling down now to the fact that it can all happen safely from now on and at home in my lovely pool! I hope your LO comes along really soon too! ooooooo 2/5 engaged!! How exciting!

Fiona - i know what you mean about DP getting under your feet, bless them. I cant do anything around the house when DP is around, not because he stops me or anything but because it just doesn't feel right lol.

LOM - glad you enjoyed your swim. Like Choudru, i am also guilty of not having had a single swim during this pg. Ooopsie!

Iris - So glad Elliot is being a little star for you! Now come on, give us some pics!!!!!!!

Just got back from Asda and have been more DomGod-like by buying more ingredients from Nigella's book. I can see me and Nigella are going to become firm friends.....

Tonight i'm cooking sausages in a lovely honey & soy sauce with potato and mushroom gratin and veggies, followed by Eton Mess which is basically cream, crunched up meringue and strawbs all messy in the dish. Yummy!

Evening all

Just a quick message - Internet at home is down (BT say 24hrs... hahaha) so am posting from my dads quickly - needed to sort some banking stuff out!

Not much happening - ante-natal was all normal.... even if im like the devil possessed today - everything is winding me up to the extent I have screamed at DH too many times!

Will hopefully catch up properly tomorrow, if not BT will get the sharp end of a 36weeker!

silkcushion · 30/10/2007 17:02

Hello just an update before I get in my car and drive to Rg's for dinner - sounds lovely. I actually got my hostess brownie badge too - I think we had to bake fairy cakes and write an invitation to afternoon tea if I remember correctly.

Had a lovely couple of days. A long lost friend who I found through mn came to visit for lunch yesterday and brought her scrummy little boy who's 1.

Then at yoga last night bumped into a hypnotherapist who is offering me and 3 friends 4 free hypnobirthing sessions if we promise to spread the word. Worth £27 a time. So that's booked for Thursday.

Today met up with NCT group for coffee which turned into lunch. 2 babies there - 1 is 8lb 9oz and other is 6lb (she was 5 weeks early). Lots of snuggles and babysniffing. Felt v strong bh whilst holding them

Then went to see mw and had a SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Am so pleased. I know it's not a definite sign but mw said that and the stronger contractions might well be a sign of something starting to happen. DSS has predicted his new little sister arriving tomorrow and my birthday is Thursday so that would be good too (although I'd miss out on free hypnobirthing).

Take care all - Pixie I'm sending you the birthing vibes Iris sent back to me (you need them first)

Easywriter · 30/10/2007 17:25

Gosh! how exciting Silk!
for you!

littleoldme · 30/10/2007 18:14

Silk - I'm doing a special cheerleader style ' GO SILK ' dance. All the best sweetie

AnnainNZ · 30/10/2007 18:52

Good luck Silk, hope things are happening and I hope Pixie is getting somewhere too. I'm not in labour yet! FOr those of you wondering. Still at home, going in Thurs 8.30 am to be induced (Weds evening your time), which is 24 hours away. Just off to see the doctor for the last time before I go in. Hope you're all doing well.

Apparently it's International Donkey Day, breakfast TV has just informed me. What a mine of useful information it is...

fiona76 · 30/10/2007 18:53

I'm so hormotional I just teared up over strictly come dancings montage to mark for winning last year. Losing it!!!!

Easywriter · 30/10/2007 19:45

Good luck to you Anna (I get to post at such random times I may not get the chance to wish you well before you go in).

I hope it all goes smoothly for you (me old Leeds buddy!).

Psst! Last chance for hot curry and hotter sex!

Am currently missing dd's like mad (I'm so pathetic aren't I, you think I'd be getting better by now. Heaven help me when they're teenagers or whatever age it is that they don't really want that much to do with their parents!. They're having a sleepover at their friends (5 mins away). The house is soooo quiet and empty. I want my babies!!! (You wouldn't believe I spend all day telling them to use their little voices and not to shout).
Dp is home which is lovely but gorgeous though he is he's just not nearly as cute as my sorry OUR bambini!

Roll on lunchtime tomorrow when I pick them up!

jetgirl · 30/10/2007 20:00

Wrote a message yesterday but internet went down before I could post it, however because of RG's xcellent tip I wrote and saved it in Word so i don't even have to try and remember what I wrote - brilliant, and I didn't get ridiculously cross because I'd lost my post!

So I've altered it to bring it up to date...

RG - My mum made the pear and chocolate pudding from Nigella express on Sunday, it's very yummy and obviously good for you as it contains pears! Love Eton Mess, another 'health food' what with the strawberries and calcium in the cream

Super - yes, the bananas do work, I haven't had any cramps for a bit since someone mentioned bananas could help on here.

Sarah - good luck with the move - I hate moving I find it so stressful, all power to all you ladies who've managed it while pregnant! Your weekend sounds very blissful

Jinxed- what a good excuse not to get out of bed, I wish my DH would offer to do something similar. Having said that, he did do the vacuuming before he went to work this morning so I can't really complain.

Hi topsyturvey - cleaning floors on all fours is meant to help turn breech babies ( mine was breech until last Sunday, and I didn't touch a single cleaning implement though!)

Easy - my DD managed to amuse herself while I slept for 45 minutes yesterday afternoon (I didn't even mean to, and fell asleep sitting upright!) When I woke up she was happily doing her Night Garden jigsaw and had been drawing - not on the walls or anything either! Sometimes, I think she's quite happy to have a bit of time to herself, and needs to learn how to cope with entertaining herself. She certainly lets me know when she wants my attention! So many children have activities constantly provided for them that they actually have no idea how to cope when they have to use their imagination, I see it all the time in the secondary school kids I teach. Just think of it as an important life skill you are teaching your children

Gordon Ramsay's fast food contains some good recipes, nice and straightforward, without all the shouting and swearing - though I am quite capable of adding that myself when I'm cooking

Pixie - hope it won't be too long for you now x

Sparkly - great news about Callum, he's not far off the 5lb mark now, which I'm sure will feel like a great milestone for you.

We've got our friends and their 3 children coming round tomorrow to do some pumpkin carving, which should be fun. Their children are 7, 3 and 5 weeks, so I think it's going to be mainly adults doing the carving! Then on Thursday, while DD's at nursery I shall make vatfuls of pumpkin soup for the freezer.

I've just found out another friend is pregnant with her first. I'm so excited as I know she and her husband were trying when we were, and was very conscious that it happened straightaway for us. She's 15 weeks now and just 'going public', must get her onto mumsnet!

Right, Holby City is on, and a bar of dark chocolate is calling me to go and eat it
