It's rubbish though isn't it? I just feel like a part time mum.
Being pregnant the second time around is a bit of a mixed blessing isn't it?

Roll on being able to bend in the middle and the resumption of the normal madhouse we live in .

Easywriter · 29/10/2007 17:13

On The Sound of Music viewing DD's made me giggle.

They wouldn't watch The Little Mermaid because of the 'scary' character that is horrid to Ariel. (Don't know her name soz!)

They wouldn't watch The Wizard of Oz because of the Wicked witches of the East and West.

At which age do you think they'll suss that the nazi's weren't about to be nominated for peace prizes?

littleoldme · 29/10/2007 17:20

Easy - You are allowed to plonk the kids infront of the Tv. You are 8 months pg and you have twins! I admire your choice of the Sound of Music - I'm a big fan of cheesy musicals. Even if you weren't, I agree with Choudru on the entertainment front.
If it's any consolation, my older sisters are twins and mum says that after having two I was a doddle.

Choudru - I agree - your DS was a star and throughly pleasant chap . I came home feeling all broody.

ChocolateHobnob · 29/10/2007 17:53

Hi all!

On the subject of Nigella, her choc cakes are divine, but that mousse from Nigella Express was just too rich even for greedy chocaholic me. It really wasn't as good as normal mousse IMO. However. I can recommend the pork chops and gnocchi from Nigella Express and the bacon/brandied chicken with potato and mushroom gratin. I can also recommend her choc brownies from other books...

I like Gordon R! I confess. I find Nigella easier to cook from though.

Easy - twins and pregnant must be so hard! You're coping so well.

LOM and Choudru, sounds like you had fun! And Choudru your DS sounds like he's a little star.

RG... nesting?? or boredom??

FCH, enjoy the acupuncture and do feed back.

J A R M - hope you aren't being stalked!! I hate the idea that someone in RL might read me here....

Sarah - yum Maltesers! And relatively low cal.

Anna, any pre-induction luck?

I've felt crap today, tired and a bit sick - lacking energy. Had friends round for lunch and managed but otherwise have been lying about reading and done nothing else. So much for all that frantic activity last week and over the w/e - I'm now shattered!

Penne with leftover roast chicken, pesto and rocket for tea. See - food always cheers me up.

Thinking of you Pixie!!!

FCH · 29/10/2007 17:59

Well hello again!

Looking forward to a review of that Nigella cookbook. I have been really spoiled for the last few years on the food front - being in the services has mostly meant living away from home during the week and being cooked for at every meal. This means I happily cook very time consuming meals when I am at home, which is probably going to be a bit of a non-starter once the baby arrives, so if it really is full of yummy and quick meals I NEED to know!!

Just back from the acupuncture lady. She was reasonably positive about encouraging the baby to turn round into the right direction to engage, but far more important was that it was the most relaxing hour I have spent in the last 6 months (no it didn't hurt) and I got the most fabulous head and shoulder massage at the end as the girl was concerned about my tense neck - could go for a bit more of that!

Right - off to make bubble and squeak from yesterday's left-overs - my one quick and easy recipe

Night all!

AnnainNZ · 29/10/2007 19:29

Jetgirl and Loopy - my dad was a vicar too! 3 of us on one thread, what are the chances of that?

Chocolate - nothing seems to be working to get the baby going. I just have a feeling my body is not ready to go into labour yet. Sometimes I feel OK and determined I'll just get through it and other times I'm freaking out a bit about the induction. Hope Pixiefish is doing OK.

RGPargy · 29/10/2007 20:02

Evening all!

Well, finally sitting down after what seems like an eternity in the kitchen (it wasn't tho!).

So tonight i made Spanish Tortilla from Ms Lawson's book and it got the big thumbs up all round! Whenever we go and visit my mum in her house in Spain, DP eats alot of Tortilla because they tend to do alot of fish or chicken and as DP is a veggie, it's pretty much the only thing on the menu for him. He said it was the best Tortilla he had tasted - even better than the Buena Vista hotel (and that's saying something!)!! So we had that with a couple of new potatoes and a bit of salad. Was scrummy! So far the Nigella book gets me thumbs up, even tho i've only used one recipe. I have had a good look tho and it seems that alot of the stuff is very quick and easy.

I didn't end up sweeping the floor in the end coz i got distracted (BAD domgod!) but i did bake the cookies, although i cheated and made them from Asda's ready made cookie dough that you just roll into balls and whack in the oven. They are lovely tho!

LOM - dont think this book has choc cloud cake in it. Sounds interesting! LOL @ you getting all unnecessary over Gordie R!!!

Easy - I know what you mean about Gordie R's cooking mannerisms. I have to say that i wouldn't watch his programmes but have enjoyed him the couple of times i've heard him on the Chris Moyles show on Radio 1. He has quite a good sense of humour i think.

Easy - i agree with the others re you doing enough. I also agree that we were not entertained during the holidays, but were just left to our own devices and used to go out on our bikes etc. I know your girls aren't quite old enough to do that but cut yourself some slack and let them use their imaginations for a bit.

Choudru - not sure if it's nesting or just pure boredom and guilt at doing nothing all morning lol. Oh and it's DS that's doing the revising/testing, not DP.

Interesting point about attachment parenting. I spose that would make sense really!

Sounds like you and DS had a lovely time with LOM! I would love to go out for coffee and cake!

Choc - deffo boredom! I dont feel the need to nest at all atm! I think once the nursery is done, it might all just kick in but so far it's just not happening! I will try those Nigella recommendations - they do sound rather scrummy!

FCH - i've said it before and i'll say it again - go get the Nigella Express book. All quick and easy recipes and not too fancy either.

Anna - sending you ++++++ labour vibes!!

Hi,
very new to this group email thingy but wanted to join your anti natal group...I'm due Nov 21st. At the moment she (oh yes a girl!) is breach...was gonigt o have a home birth as I did on my first and had no probs...any bright ideas about getting this lovely lady to face the right way?!

sparklygothkat · 29/10/2007 22:01

Hello girls, callum slept better last night as we moved his moses basket upstairs which he sleeps better in than the crib. He woke twice for feeds but I didn't have to keep picking him up. Dd1's shared care social worker came today to get me to sign some paperwork for her overnight stays at the carers, and meet callum for the first time, she was bowled over with him

Weighing tomorrow, fingers crossed he has gained now, though I think the tube will stay in till he is at least 5lb now. Had to resite the tube again last night, DH was watching me and saying 'you're hurting him!!' Its hard enough to do it to a tiny baby without DH making me nervous. Managed to get it down anyway...

Still feeling ..

Easywriter · 29/10/2007 22:41

SGK - It's sopunding like it's all good Sparkly. Good luck wth the weight in tomorrow. Gosh! It makes little Callum sound like a boxer doesn't it?

Topsy - I think there's an element of 'what baby wants to do will be what happens' in all this but you can coax.
Kneeling on all fours (or resting on your fore arms with your bum in the air is v. good). Anything that gets you into a position where your belly is hanging forward should help. The other thing I've heard (though never tried and not sure i ever would) is lying inverted on an ironing board. MAybe someone else has tried that and can give you an opinion. I'd favour asking politely. It's been my experience that you only have to ask a child to do something several hundred times and eventually they will comply .

FCH - Freaky! Bubble and squeak was what we had for dinner tonight. Weird as I don't think I've eaten it for about 15 years or more. T'was lush delish!

Anna - +++ve vibes to you hon! Hope all goes well.

RG - You truly are a domestic godess. D'you fancy coming over here to cook? I seem to have a new trick which is to burn EVERYTHING! If I'm not realising that I've turned the hob to max heat rather than off (why oh why haven't we got a gas hob?) I just burn things cos I'm not paying enough attention! Goes to show that a brownie guide hostess badge counts for jack all doesn't it!

RGPargy · 30/10/2007 07:56

Morning ladies!

Seems like i'm up with the lark this morning! DS actually has some work today and tomorrow [shock horror] and so i heard him shuffling about this morning before he left for work. Then DP's alarm went off every five minutes from 6.30 til 7am, by which time i was practically begging him to get up! If you cant beat 'em join 'em, right girls?

I had a weird dream last night! I dreamt that I had been booked to play a gig in Australia but when i got there, i realised i'd left all my vinyl at home and had nothing to play. My only hope was being lent some CDs and having a crash course in learning how to use a CDJ, rather than decks for the vinyl! I can remember in the dream feeling really frustrated! What a DJ nightmare! Then my dream skipped on to me having had the baby and I was breastfeeding her. That bit of my dream was lovely.

Sparkly - Good to hear that Callum slept better. I hope this menat that you got some extra sleep in too. Good luck with the weigh in today!

Topsy - No suggestions really, other than what Easy has already suggested. Good luck!

Easy - You must be joking! It's such an effort for me to do anything remotely DomGod, which is why when i DO manage it, i harp on about it for days on end, expecting countless Brownie points!! Obviously you need to review your Brownie Hostess badge rather sharpish!

I wonder how Pixie and Anna are getting on?!

Morning ladies! What domestic goddesses we are! Promised my DH a very domestic evening last night - friends round for dinner. We had a very yummy mushroom lasagne (Nigel Slater) but involved chopping so many many mushrooms that I resorted to the food processor, then cut my thumb so badly on the blade that I found blood all over the kitchen walls this morning! Can't even blame the wine at the moment! I'm trying to persuade myself that the thumb bandage makes me look interesting - like a woman with a story!

ChocolateHobnob · 30/10/2007 08:25

Hi all

Mini, I cut my thumb on the Magimix blade last year while making coleslaw... it was like the chain saw massacre and it was only a superficial cut...

Hi Topsy! I agree with all fours but it's dead uncomfortable - I've been on my knees with my belly low but arms resting on my exercise ball to try to stop lo turning breech... it seems to have worked...

RG, you are a domestic goddess! I was until yesterday and am now domestic slob. Did you watch Nigella doing her latina thing last night?

Easy, the hostess badge was one of the only ones I got... I was crap at Brownies...

Am feeling less rubbish today, still tired, so another vegging day I think, although an electrician is coming to sort out a few things for half the day so can't just go to bed.. not that I can sleep anyway... I wish I could: what a design fault!

Hugs to Pixie! and Anna- though I dont think she's being induced today is she?

RGPargy · 30/10/2007 08:34

Mini - OUCH!!! Sounds painful!!!

Choc - Yes i watched a bit of Nigella doing her thang last night. Same recipes that are in her book, unfortunately the ones i wasn't keen on! I'll keep an eye on her programme tho to see what else she does next week.

I think you're right re Anna - she's being induced on 1st November, according to the list, but for some reason i thought it was today.

I'm with you on being tired! Being awake since about 6.30 has really knocked it out of me. I feel like curling up on the sofa now for a snooze but i dont want to miss Jezza this morning lol. How sad am I???!!

OP posts:
sarahloumadam · 30/10/2007 08:51

Must have missed the Anna thing - didn't realise she was going in just yet.

LOL Chocolate re Brownies - I could never be arsed - a sign of things to come! But I do remember doing the hostess badge and seem to think it involved making a cup of tea and lighting a match...I remember having to sew a button on too. Brownies made me the woman I am today rolf!

Made Nigella pork chops with cider mustard sauce last night, yummy! Will ask Santa for the book. I was exhausted last night and my back was aching - think I had overdone it on the packing front. This is what it must feel like to be v.v.old. I too make the "ooouff" noise when sitting down, standing up, getting out of bed, into bed...and getting out the bath without help is becoming farcical. I saw an advert for one of those chairs that stand you up the other day and thought "what a great idea!!!" .

Topsy - think anything where your knees are lower than your hips and being active helps. My DH has claimed the comfy chair and footrest back since finding this out - says I shouldn't have my feet up! The swine.

Sparkly - glad you are still and that Callum had a better night. Fingers crossed for good weigh-in.

Well off to see midwife shortly and then out for girly lunch. Hope you all have a nice relaxing day.x

sarahloumadam · 30/10/2007 08:55

BTW RGP - what did you think to Nigella on the telly? I think she is a fab person, all gorgeous and curvy and I love the fact that she is clearly so very greedy and gets soooo excited over food (a girl after my own heart) but find her presenting skills a bit distracting. Did she attempt to eat any of her recipes on public transport cos that is what she usually does? Pea soup at the bus stop! Noodles in a taxi!

RGPargy · 30/10/2007 09:13

Sarah - the pork chops sound lovely! I only really had one eye on the telly, but i didn't notice her eating it on public transport lol. DP's mate said that she was "silly" on the telly but i thought she was ok. I can see how annoying it could become if you watch it too often tho!

Hope all goes well with MW and have a lovely lunch.

OP posts:
FCH · 30/10/2007 09:55

SGK - It sounds like you are coping amazingly with everything; lucky Callum to have such a fab mum!! Good luck with the weighing!

RG - Well that's me told then - will get on Amazon and purchase the aforementioned tome! Glad to hear I am not the only one having really odd dreams by the way - do you think we are having more of them because of hormones/blind panic about new babies, or just remembering more of them because we wake up so much?

Mini - your poor thumb! I chopped the back of my thumb open in March with a saw when we were trying to bring some order to my mother's acre of wilderness that she laughably describes as a garden (drives me nuts). Not only did I feel like an idiot for doing it but there was so much blood that I felt really queasy (being 6 week's pregnant probably didn't help with that!) and the nurse who cleaned it up and put those strip things on clearly thought I was a total fool!!

I have also been up early as the boiler man arrived at 7.45 to sort out our central heating as obviously when we turned it on it heated every room in the house except the nursery and we have been waiting about 3 weeks for him to have a free appointment. The fab news is that he has fixed it all, done our safety check, serviced the boiler and gone away all before breakfast time for the bargain sum of £55, which means I can now put my feet up for the rest of the day whilst still feeling virtuous, and knowing I have been a good mother in having the baby's radiator fixed!

fiona76 · 30/10/2007 09:56

Topsy- Get down to the swimming pool and do a few lengths with some flotation devices. Make sure you do freestyle kick and not breaststroke kick as that might give you SPD which is painful. Its lovely being all weightless in the water and it helps turn the baby. Don't worry they can still move around for a bit yet can't they??

Any ideas how to encourage LO to engage??? I know it will happen when its ready but now 38 weeks and would like some action soon.

Nigella is v annoying but lovely and curvy and likes choc. Can't watch her though she drives me crazy. I might make pork chops and cider mustard sauce tonight that sounds lovely ohhh with creamy mash and peas yum yum. Can I find the recipe for cider mustard sauce on the net or will you write it in here???

Ohh I just got the passport form for LO through the letter box. We are travelling to NZ at end of feb for a month hopefully it will be fine but a bit nervous about it. LO should be about 3 months old by then but its a long way to go. Thought I better apply for the passport as soon as LO is born as it can take a while to process and its also over christmas. The passport photo should be interesting.

Sparkly- glad to hear your night was better and the weigh in goes well today.

ChocolateHobnob · 30/10/2007 10:14

Hi all

Just laughing about Nigella comments - she DOES eat in taxis on the show, and flicks her hair a lot - v artificial - but the food is good which is what matters. The recipes are on bbc.co.uk/food but I can't find the pork one - will type it out later from the book but can't now as DH is working from home and pestering me to get off the computer...
which I had better do...

Sparkly, big hugs to Callum. He is such a little star and you are doing so well.

Everyone else, take care and good luck with nice days for all!

littleoldme · 30/10/2007 10:16

OMG - We are are quite the Dom Gods this week are we not.

Mini - STEP AWAY FROM THE SHARP THINGS

Sparkly - Hope the weigh in goes well . Do let us know.

Sarah . LOL re your brownie memories. Sounds v civilized. My overwhelming memory of things like that is a load of us getting a complete b*g at guides for burning each others' hair with candles on thinking day Enjoy your lunch.

FCH - Enjoy your lazy day

Right, I'm off for a swim [LOM polishes halo] Then I have to spend the day filling a form for work. It will be a complete PITA but should result in me getting a pay rise. I've been putting it off for ages. So no distracting me you lot.

RG - Glad you Ds has got some work.

fiona76 · 30/10/2007 10:30

Does anyone know a good childcare book? I thought I'd better get one but there are so many and I don't know which one to get. Thought I'd better invest as I know next to nothing about babies

RGPargy · 30/10/2007 11:43

Fiona - A book that i found an absolute God send with DS was called Babies! by Dr Christopher Green. It's been updated now and i actually bought it again for this baby. I thoroughly recommend it!

36 weeks today ladies! By the end of this week i'll be a full termer! Baby's gotta hang on just one more week and then she can come whenever she likes coz i'll be ok for my HWB.
