Bravissimo have nursing bras at reasonable (to me) prices. I'm currently wearing two Royce softcup bras which are more comfortable than I'd believed anything without underwire could be.

Still not sure about getting nursing bras before the milk comes in though, as all these 'rule of thumb' bits of advice sound a bit, well, rough. Is there any reason why I can't just wear my normal bra and drop the strap & cup completely for the first wee while and then order in ones that are going to fit?

RGPargy · 27/10/2007 18:00

Loopy - oi, watch it!

Jarm - sounds like your nursery is almost there! I so wish mine was! Alas, we're still nowhere near finished yet Hope you feel better soon tho.

LOM - i dont think anyone could TRULY get bored of chocolate hobnobs, could they? I've still not got a clue about bras. I might just squeeze my norks into my non-wired bras for now - depends if i get in the mood for more norkage measuring! Not sure Spanx go up to my size so i might have to opt for the M&S one instead for now.

Silk - sounds like you've had a lovely afternoon! Cant believe the time already, where has the afternoon gone! Saying that, i didn't wake up til 12.45pm so i spose i'm a few hours behind you lot still lol.

Choc - You may laugh, but DS keeps pilfering all my stuff to the point where it drives me NUTS! i could understand if he was a teenage girl but he's not!

He's always nicking stuff of ours and drives me nuts!! Today i thought i'd have a nice pampering shower with bodyscrub and cream. I picked up my pot of Nivea, unscrewed the lid and found hardly any left! I've only used it about three times! I know i shouldn't get pissed off about it but it's the principle that it's MY bloody cream and when i want to use it, there's barely enough left to do my (expanding) body! So i decided the best course of action was to sit on the toilet (seat down!) and have a bloody good cry I'm still feeling a bit fed up and hormonal etc but DP will be home soon so a good cuddle form him will sort the world out i reckon.

Sparkly - glad you were able to sort the tube out for Callum. Hope he puts on enough weight so that you can remove it again. Still, on the plus side, at least you can get a bit more rest!

Pixie - i'm sure when it comes to it DD will be fine.

Lady - will have a look at the Bravissimo link. Not sure they do porker size tho....

Sorry for not being very chirpy this afternoon ladies. Will try and buck myself up a bit i think.

JARM · 27/10/2007 18:04

RG - i think we are all feeling a little pissed off right now, I sure am!

Im not bothering with nursing bras just yet, will carry on squeezing into the old ones and get measured once my milk is in - if i manage to feed this one myself of course.

FigLeaves is a good site, because it caters for all sizes, where as Bravissimo only start at a D cup, and considering non-pg im only a B, they would drown me!

Being called through for tea - will be back later! xxx

iris66 · 27/10/2007 18:10

Hi all - sorry about the lack of pix. My phone wont downlaod for some reason (must find proper camera )

choudru - I boughtthese I was around a size 10 pre pg so I got a 14 & a 12. I've noticed a real difference wearing it (breathing easier and back ache is less than last time) and it stays up really well. I reckon I'll be moving down to the 12 in a couple of days. They have a cheaper version online that I've not seen in the shops so I may buy one as a spare in the smaller size.

Sparkly - glad Callum's sleeping better now and that things are settling down for you. Hope all goes well with the scan/paed appointment

thelady - my milk came in today and there is no way on this earth I would fit in my normal bras (FWIW I think they fit at around the 6mth post delivery point!)I'm busting out of my feeding ones as it is but won't buy any more as I know they'll settle in a week or so.

Pixiefish - I was so worried about DS but he was absolutely fine without me (or DH!) They fuss less than we do don't they

RGPargy · 27/10/2007 18:13

Iris - that's the same body shaper as the one i've been looking at. Good to know it's worth the money!

OP posts:
choudru · 27/10/2007 18:23

Loopy - after reading what you said, I decided not to bother buying any bras today. Will just do as you say - use last time's for the first few days and then get measured once milk comes in.

Also - thanks RG for the M&S harvest knickers link. Questions for you (or anyone else) -

  1. Does one wear the girdle over underwear??
  2. I am normally a size 8/10 - I don't know what size girdle(s) to get? I could get size 12 for straight after birth and then size 10 for once uterus has done a lot of contracting. Thoughts?
  3. Was looking at this one - it's only a tenner. I know it doesn't deal with thighs but I'm only really bothered about getting my waist back - can deal with extra inches on thighs and bum.

JARM - glad you rested and don't worry about moaning - if you can't moan on here, where can you?! I think we've all done our fair share of it so bring it on.

Sparkly - gosh - how did you bring yourself to put the tube in? I would have been terrified to do that when DS was using one - you sound so confident with it!

Choc - I wish I had your energy! I am ok waddling around the house doing bits of tidying but when it comes to wandering around shops - I can't walk for more than 5-10 mins without getting tired and tender pelvic area.

Pixie - your DD sounds like she's taking it well so far - am sure it will help that she knows what to expect to some extent. I am trying to talk to DS about babies a lot these days - not sure how much he's taking in but I'm sure it's more than I think.

DH in kitchen at the mo cooking up fajitas while I type on here and watch strictly - don't blush silk - BE PROUD!

Getting a few period pains today.

RGPargy · 27/10/2007 18:43

Choudru - i was tempted by the waist thing you put up, but i'm a bit worried that if it's nipping everything in, i'll get this big puffy thigh bits at the tops of my legs lol. Dunno tho, for a tenner each, i might just buy a couple. I think i would buy two sizes bigger than normal, so if you're a size 8 normally () then i'd buy a 12 for straight away and a 10 for a bit later. That's what i'm gonna do anyway!

Oh and i think you wear it over your underwear...

OP posts:
JARM · 27/10/2007 18:47

do they do monster sizes in M&S?

Im a 16 pre-preg!

RGPargy · 27/10/2007 18:49

Jarm - I was a size 22 pre-pg but i'm just getting the 22 and hoping for the best lol.

jetgirl · 27/10/2007 19:55

I'm going to try really hard not to whinge - am in a foul mood because DD has been a stroppy little so and so for the last hour, refusing to eat her dinner so we got her ready for bed so she could have the milk she insisted she wanted. So then she stropped about that. She stressed me so much I had to leave the room for 10 minutes as I was knew I was just going to get as stroppy as her! So DH is putting her to bed, and I'm trying to chill but am so tired and hormonal that all I want to do is cry And I'm having another child in a few weeks, am a bit scared this is going to send me over the edge now.

Reading all your posts definitely helps cheer me up though .

Can't remember who asked, but the chocolate mango slices are made by Divine chocolate, I bought them in our local Fair Trade shop, but places like Oxfam stock them too.

Don't think I agree with feeling better at 37 weeks, I'm definitely more tired and I am convinced I am getting bigger by the day! Having said that, I was first up, showered and dressed in our house today, and made myself porridge for breakfast. It all went downhill from about 8:30 though!!

JARM · 27/10/2007 20:00

see Jet - thats what I want to be able to do, i want to be able to get up and sorted by 8.30am, not still being in Pj's at 3pm!!

choudru · 27/10/2007 20:09

RG - since you are thinking along the same lines - I think I shall do same as you. Think I will stick to the tenner ones though because it means I can buy 2 of each size and not feel guilty. The postnatal ones were rather pricey at £60 each - especially as you need 2 minimum.

Jetgirl - poor you honey sending positive vibes your way. Kids can drive you up the wall can't they. It's almost like they KNOW when your tolerance is low and they take the opportunity to push you as far as they can for the fun of it. Well that's the feeling my DS gives me...

Any chance of you getting to have a lovely soak in the bath or something once she is all tucked up?

choudru · 27/10/2007 20:25

Ooooh oooh!!!!!

Before you order any lingerie from M&S! STOPPPPPPP!

If you use e-voucher code WEBSS252, you get 10% off! Expires 30/10/07. Just tried it and it saved me £3.80 on a £38 shop.

Free delivery as well on over £30.

choudru · 27/10/2007 20:36

Just ordered 4 waist clinchers. 2xsize12 and 2xsize10. All for £34.20 including delivery. Bargain.

Easywriter · 27/10/2007 20:44

ooh! Thanks for that Choudru, that's information worth knowing. I think I may do a couple of those!

Jetgirl - Hang in there hon. Like Chou says somehow the wee ones know which buttons to push. Tomorrow's another day!

I'm just 'mellowing one of my DD's who had too much chocolate at the cinema and is hyper and tearful. She's fairly clam now but it's taken about half an hour of coaxing to get her this far.

I wasn't really that bothered about the film - not my bag at all but I could watch their smiling happy little faces all day. Not that the trip wasn't permeated with numerous trips to the loo and running back waving arms Macualay Culkin style through the cinema .

Sparkly - So sorry to hear of the continuing feeding issues with Callum. You must be pretty competant for the hospital to let you take on that sort of duty. I hope it's all resolved soon!

Pixie - I'm sure it'll be OK with DD but it shows you're a caring mum that you're worried for her welfare. It'll be OK.

So...who had lemon drizzle pudding for her birthday dinner (well pudding really)? That would be me!!!
So delicious! DP whipped it up to go with my birthday dinner. I am stuffed, I think the official term is fat and happy.

HAve a lovely evening everyone (especially those of you who've felt a bit off colour today).

Easywriter · 27/10/2007 20:46

By the way the film was actually fantastic, I forgot to say!
I was pleasantly suprised.

RGPargy · 27/10/2007 20:54

Choudru - excellent stuff!! Have just done the same and got the same price too. Yay!! Let's hope that the biggest size fit me lol. If not, it's at least some incentive to get exercising and dieting!

RGPargy · 27/10/2007 20:57

Easy - sounds like you've had a lovely day! PMSL @ McCaully Culkin (sp?) likeness on arm waving You sound very competent to have been able to bring DD back down to earth. What film was it that you went to see?

littleoldme · 28/10/2007 05:29

Well I was fast asleep by 8pm so now I'm completely awake .

Sparkly - Sorry to hear Callum is having problems. It sounds like you are taking it all in you stride though although it must be really tough. Lots of love.

Thanks for the advice on feeding bras. I think I'll go to Bravissimo and buy one then get a couple more later. I love shopping there, they really pamper you.

Choudru - Well done on your M n S purchases. I think I'll see how everyone gets on with various garments before I commit. I suppose there has to be one advantage to being one of the last due. Oh and If you still want a cooking thermometer, Cliff's Hardware on Harrogate rd have some cheap ones. It sells everything !

Easy - Sounds like you've had a good birthday. Lemon drizzle cake - you lucky lady

Jet - I hope you have a happier day with DD today

AnnainNZ · 28/10/2007 08:22

Morning LOM, I should have posted hours ago, you were up v early - hours before the Archers omnibus even . Poor old Ed and his foot...

ChocolateHobnob · 28/10/2007 09:05

Hi LOM and Anna

I couldn't sleep at all last night! Went to bed later than usual and at 3 am new time was still awake. Have got psoriasis and it's sooo itchy, plus those mega-annoying Braxton Hicks which have been getting stronger for weeks, strong enough to keep me awake but not to actually do anything useful in terms of jolting my body into action.

So am going to Tesco to get some food - people coming for lunch tomorrow, and going to roast a chicken for dinner tonight - and then onto the Metro centre for a shopping fest. I'm kind of dead on my feet but shopping always spurs me on (!). Might have a look at some nice winter boots, plus check out some lo stuff, and do some Xmas shopping.

I don't think I can cope with a girdle!! won't it hurt after birth? what if you end up with a c-section??

Have a good day everyone!

thelady · 28/10/2007 09:59

ChocolateHobnob: My psoriasis has been sneaking back since about 28 weeks but isn't too bad at the moment. Dovonex cream, plus a steroid cream (can't remember which one!) plus diprobase for moisturiser where it isn't on my scalp seems to be helping at the moment.

Sorry yours is giving you grief.

Pixiefish · 28/10/2007 10:17

well the clocks going back did nothing for dd She was up at 7.30 as usual- well 6.30 according to the new settings.

Dh gone into work for the morning. Hope he's back soon.

I've been having painful period type grumbling pains for a few days now but nothing happening so looks like it'll be the planned induction tomorrow- although I've been readingt he induction tread and am now crapping myself incase they don't have a bed or something and they keep me hanging about for days or I get sent home cos they've no beds on the ante natal ward having psyched myself up to it

choudru · 28/10/2007 11:09

Pixie - well there's still a few hours to go before your induction - you never know!

Choc - Iris reckons the extra support has reduced backache after Elliot's birth so I don't think they would be that uncomfortable. As for c-sections, you would have to wait 2-3 weeks after the operation, according to Gowri Motha.

LOM - thanks for the tip - may waddle down there today if it's open on a sunday. What a mental hour to be up and about on a sunday!

RG - well done on ordering the girdles at choudru prices

Had quite a lot of pelvic pain yesterday evening/overnight, plus the odd BH contraction. Won't taking it as a sign that something is happening because that's what I thought last week and twas all in vain.
