I am using the cotton bottoms wraps from the tommeetippee site and they are great, had no leaks. And they fit Callum's tiny bum...

we are using prefolds atm, as i haven't found any shaped ones that will fit

Minicooper · 23/10/2007 15:17

Hi, haven't been on for months, but joined the thread right back at the beginning, but then went a bit busy/ shy - have continued to lurk, however and have kept up with your stories. I'm due on 30th November, so will be left right til the end when all you already have your LOs! ELB and others with difficult family situations - I totally sympathise. My parents live in Thailand and have booked to come over from Boxing Day for 3 weeks! They had said they'd go away for the middle week, but when I spoke to them at the weekend they've made no arrangements 'in case I need them, they want to be around to help.' I'm sure they will be helpful, but this is our first and I think having anyone in the house for that long with a new baby is a bit much. Families are so difficult aren't they?!

Pixiefish · 23/10/2007 15:35

Things have changed since dd was in cloth- have bought a handful of new ones, but the rest are all after dd. Just found some more Mothereease one size in the attic and they're in thewash atm

RGPargy · 23/10/2007 15:48

Afternoon!

Jarm - glad you had fun at swimming! Am very of your energy!

Pixie - that's quite a bit of saving isn't it! I do like the little towelling folded ones HERE. They look so cute! If they work for my LO i would be seriously tempted..... Sample packs are in order i think!

ELB - sorry you are having PIL problems. It was deffo a bit mean of DH to let it fall on you tho. Do you think he'd been a bit cowardly and avoiding the issue as he knew it'd upset them? I've given DP strict instructions that we are having no visitors until a good few days after LO is here.

Silk - at your friend's MIL!!! that's just pure evil saying that! I would have told her to sod off back to Spain as well!

Superloopy - (hello, long time no post! ) I dont understand why people think you'll be up for visitors so soon after baby! Especially if you're trying to learn how to BF, the last thing you need is cooing PILs popping into the bedroom just as you're flopping your norks out! Especially those who are there for the duration and not just an hour or two!

Flounder - sorry to hear you've not been well! So glad that you got a big fuss after all at your lunch. You were thoroughly spoilt too! yay!!

LO has been quite active today, despite the lack of room she must be having. I've been to Homebase and bought some paint for the nursery and then just kinda got lost in the business park and found myself in Toys R Us. I really dont know how that happened! I came out with a pink moses basket and stand. The basket itself was only £40 new but i almost bought one of the ex-display ones for £9.90!! Only trouble is, it was yellow and blue and the sides weren't padded at all. Plus one of the fixings on one side of the hood was broken too. I could have just bought it and bought new coverings for it, but then there would have not been much point in buying it as a bargain, especially if i'd had to lay out another £20 on bedding for it. Thought i'd just go with the one i original was going for and got that one instead.

Right, am off now to Asda to get some food in (yay, we eat tonight!!!).

Have a nice afternoon girlies.

Laterz.

yah!!! 4lb 10oz!!! callum has gone passed his birth weight now!! they have removed the tube too....

Pixiefish · 23/10/2007 16:00

RG- Tots Bots are so cute and fluffy. An ideal night time nappy but a bit bulky during the day. You would also need a wrap with them. Tots Bots do some lovely ones or you could get te Motherease wraps

jetgirl · 23/10/2007 16:06

ELB - you definitely need to get DH to talk to his parents about this. Point out that you may well be a grumpy mare in the first few weeks, what with the lack of sleep, sore boobs, afterpains etc and you don't want to inadvertently offend in-laws by saying something when you are overtired. It will also add extra stress which you so don't need. My MIL has decided she wants to fit in another visit before LO is born (seeing as I'm 37+2 realistically this could happen any day, and I think she has an alterior motive, or maybe I'm just paranoid!) At least she's a trained midwife, so could be useful...!

Flounder - you have such lovely workmates!

Had a sudden scare today when I thought my waters might have broken, but no, I had just done a little wee It made me realise that I don't know what it feels like when your waters break early in labour as mine only went about ten minutes before DD was born.

Must cook dinner, going to do lasagne tonight, DH's favourite, seeing as he bought me ice-cream the other day. If he's really lucky he might even get a chance at some natural induction attempts I won't get a look in when Pro-Evolution soccer for the PS3 comes out on Friday!!

jetgirl · 23/10/2007 16:08

Yay Sparkly! That's great news

silkcushion · 23/10/2007 16:53

Dh has just taken Dsc back to Devon and I have been fighting MASSIVE nesting urges all day. Told Dh off for putting a dirty cup on the wrong side of the kitchen earlier What a pita I am! I'd have told me to swivel but he just grinned and asked if I was feeling ok.

DSS (13) has been a little sweetie all weekend. He managed to communicate using words not grunts. I don't think he's actually had a conversation with an adult for nearly a year! He is really looking forward to having a new little sister. DSD (nearly 12) has suddenly taken to looking like a prostitute . Full on thick black eyeliner everyday. DH is in shock. I did explain she had to if everyone else at school wore it - she doesn't want to be left out. But he's v unhappy about it.

Anyway - I've just written a new to do list and am about to whirl around the house sorting out everything that has been driving me mad since this morning. DH said he doesn't want to come home in case I've got a list of jobs for him too

fiona76 · 23/10/2007 17:05

Hi all just had a massive read to catch up with the thread.

I would feel exactly the same if my PILs were planning a trip but luckly they are in SA and have never been on a plane so I should be safe. I love them to bits but not in the first few weeks!!!

My mum is coming though but she is here to look after me and help with LO and I don't have to be polite or put on any airs and graces for her. She's a great mum.

I got up the morning and was making breakfast-just fruit and yogurt and I had a right old vom session similar to motrning sickness it was horrible. Hope I don't have MS coming back as I had it for first 4 and half months really bad.

fiona76 · 23/10/2007 17:11

Quick question- I have already bought 3 reusable nappies from Wonderoos they are so cute one-size things. I want to buy some more but don't know which are best. I think that buying 2 different sizes is a great idea as I want more babies after this LO. What is the best brand???

ChocolateHobnob · 23/10/2007 17:23

It's taken ages to read everything! You all talk so much! It's great.

OK, trying to remember...

Sparkly, fantastic news about Callum! He is such a little star. Soon he'll be a bruiser!

ELB, I would feel the same. Anyone would. We dont know how we're going to react to parenting in the first days and we deffo don't need inlaws there! Having said that my friend's mother turned up the day after her lo was born and ended up staying for 4 months and my friend cried when she left because she had become so dependent on her.

Flounder, sounds like work spoiled you!

Silk, I know what you mean - I'm getting narky about mess too.

Jetgirl, mmm lasagne - can I come round?!

I had a lovely pedicure today, at a posh salon in town. Feet were rubbed and creamed and oiled and nails done and polished. My feet are no longer a disgrace - shame about the rest! It was v relaxing... had been a bday present and am glad I saved it till now.

Just had a Wispa, too... am officially an addict...

Thanks for the crib situation advice. This woman isnt a close friend, she's a colleague who wanted to make a gesture, and she was my line manager... isnt at the moment though... I won't see her before lo is born - do you think I can email?! Maybe not. She isnt in the country at the mo so can't phone...

Have been following the real/disposable nappy debate with interest... I'm still sticking to disposables for now, but I'm open to persuasion later!

Off to do something a bit useful!

littleoldme · 23/10/2007 18:01

Sparkly - That is fantastic news. So pleased he's soing so well.

Choc - The pampering sounds superb. Am V

Many thanks for all the nappy advice. I think I'll wait t'ill I'm settled with LO and see what suits him best. Went to supermarket today and eyed up nappies as I haven't really looked at them before Very bloody expensive imho especially over 2.5 3 years. And all that land fill yeughhh.

Welcome back Mini. PILs sound like a pain. Can't DH tell them to stay away. I'm more than happy to make an anonymous phonecall...

Rg You shop away lady!

Right off to clear up some of the rubbish I seem to have lying around.

BTW is anyone else having issues with driving. I've more or less banned myself as I con't concentrate and have had a couple of stupid near misses.

Minicooper · 23/10/2007 18:43

Thanks for the welcome, littleoldme I may take you up on that anonymous phonecall. I love my parents, but not sure I'll love them at the end of a 3 week visit with a newborn!

RGPargy · 23/10/2007 19:34

Well, back from Asda, dinner's in the oven and i am POOPED!!! So much for painting the nursery's woodwork today! I got as far as putting it inside the front door and that's it.

What is it with lasagne lately? I seem to have a hankering for it and so does everyone else it would seem! Can someone give me a nice lasagne recipe? I know roughly what the ingredients are but i've never made one from scratch so intend to do that tomorrow, including a veggie version for DP. Ingredients i have so far are:

Mince
Lasagne sheets
White lasagne sauce
Ordinary pasta sauce

Can someone tell me what else i need and how the hell i actually COOK it please? Thank you muchly!

Mini - welcome back! It's been a bloomin' long while!

Sparkly - Yay!!!! Brilliant news!!

Pixie - thanx for that. What daytime cute ones would you recommend and i will look into it. Will deffo use disposables at first tho!

Jet - i wonder if your MIL secretly wants to deliver the baby and is hoping that you'll go into labour while she's there?? Not sure i would like MIL fiddling around down there tbh (as lovely as my MIL is). I think there are two types of waters breaking before labour Jet. Mine went at 9am, but it felt like i was sitting there having a very small wee. I would lean back and it would trickle out, lean forward and it would stop because the baby's head would bung up the sac (so they told me). The other one is where they just pop but i have no idea how that feels!

Silk - lol at you being all tidy and nesty. I can deffo relate to that but only when i have the energy! It's nice that DSS is being positive about his new little sister. I can also relate to the onset of prossie makeup. My niece did the same thing. She went from a very pretty little delicate thing to suddenly looking like she was trying to blend in with the pandas! I think most of us went through that sort of phase at some point. My mum used to tell me to "take that muck off your face" before i was allowed out so i just used to sneak out my eyeliner with me instead. Damn those black eye liners!!!

Fiona - glad you will have some help with LO. I've not had sickness in the literal sense so far this pg, but i've been heaving and gagging! Just the other day i was heaving in the bathroom for no apparent reason. Very odd!

Choc - pedicures are great aren't they! I still haven't had my two Wispas!! I'm even worrying myself now. Me? Resist chocolate? With MY reputation??! As for the crib situation, if you're not seeing her til after LO is born you can either say oh thanx we didn't use it in the end because blah blah blah or you could pretend LO has outgrown it already. I would be brave tho and just say you didn't use it.

LOM - no issues with driving (yet) with the exception of having trouble getting in and out of the car. I feel like such an old woman!

My dinner (lasagne) beckons...... see you all in a bit.

Hey everyone can't keep up with all the chat chat chart, started reading though all the post yesterday, but had to spend all day popping on and off MN to do it, then after all that didn't get a chance to post, so have skim read today,
Glad everyone is doing well,

CONGRATULATIONS KAYLA !!!!!! XXXXXXXXXX
WELL DONE SPARKLY XXXX

Me and DS met up with friend and her little boy and her six month old little girl, OMG how cute was she, absolutley diddy, i was cuddlin her and she fell asleep on my shoulder, came home with that familiar milky stain on left shoulder, oh yes its all back to me now

feeling proper large now, and babys feet right under my rib cage, i'm starting to hanker over old body now, all my maternity clothes are starting to get tight over bump, i wanna be back in my jeans again haven't bought any new maternity clothes and have been slogging around in..same old 2 pairs of trousers and two skirts, today i had to wear skirt with tights and trainers as i threw my old boots out and have no shoes....hmmmmm

loving the cold but sunny weather, got loads on at this time of year, LO birthday (3 days b4 due date) week after next, 1st wedding anniversary this weekend, and oh yeah.....imminently due to give birth

have a good evenin all
Lxxxxxxx

littleoldme · 23/10/2007 19:59

Delia's recipe is great. To make the sauce really rich add some red wine, a few choppoed chicken livers and a couple of slices of streaky bacon. Yum.

Off to bed now. Kip well one and all

Hi all

Iris is very quiet...

Pixie - congrats on leaving work too . Finally finished work at 5.30 and still have a few bits and bobs to do at home but just glad to be off now. I work at a college so don't necessarily get half-term off unless I book it off LOM, don't know if its different for school teachers?

Elb - definately sympathise re the out-laws. Mine live down the road and DH was v.sweet the other day and said how long did I want after the birth should he wait until contacting them as they will be straight in the car. I have no idea how I will feel but at the v.least I will need a shower, a snooze and some snuggle-time with DH and the LO. Even more tricky if they are coming to stay. Stick to your guns - they'll get over it, the worst part (telling them) is over. When I went to the ante-natal class the other day tho the MW told a story re someone in labour with all her family around her applauding every time she had a contraction . Everyone is different I guess

Choc - pedicure sounds heavenly. Think will book myself in for one.

RG - sorry can't help you re a special lasagne recipe - I normally just follow the instructions on the jar! I do know that they don't contain wispas tho .

Have a good evening everyone x

sarahloumadam · 23/10/2007 20:24

With you re maternity clothes LizzieO - I only have one pair of jeans and one pair of trousers that fit now, loathe to spend more money but could be 6 weeks before I have baby so may have to dig deep!

JARM · 23/10/2007 20:30

Evening all!!!

Jeez, I seem to be posting here all the time now!

Have just done another stint of painting - girls room needed a 2nd coat, so thats almost done. Am considering breaking open the white gloss for the hallway, but not sure if DH will approve! He has set me up in bed with the laptop, a glass of juice and a tub of chocolate brownie bites!!! MMMMMMM yum!

Went over to dads this afternoon - house seemed ok, but he made it home before we got there, so not sure what it was like prior to his arrival! Dad is coming over tomorrow to put the blind up in the girls room and start on the hallway with us. Bless my dad - would be lost without him!

DD2's birthday on thursday, so went to Morrisons to get her a birthday cake today - DH may well be a chef, but we are too busy deorating and tidying to worry about cake making! Really must remember to get her a birthday card tomorrow!! Im such a bad mummy! Am a little annoyed because I bought something off here for DD2 for her birthday and it hasnt arrived yet and an email from the seller yesterday said she was trying to find a box for it - so doesnt look like she will be getting it after all!

In quite a bit of pain in my pelvis today, and lower back, but am ignoring it and getting on with what I need to do - in between long rests on MN of course! Although I want baby out, im really not ready until at least next week!

Hoping to get through our fireworks party in one piece and go into labour the following day.... would be ideal!

jetgirl · 23/10/2007 20:32

RG - mines a quorn lasagne. This serves 2, but is easily multiplied. It's a bit vague, i tend to use whatever's in, but this is generally the usual form!

Ingredients:
Mince bit
1 chopped onion
couple of garlic cloves
150g quorn mince (but can use beef if you prefer)
1 tin chopped tomatoes
bit of tomato puree
sliced mushrooms - as many as you want
1 courgette
bit of oregano and basil

Sauce bit
a good size knob of butter (I never measure this bit)
enough plain flour to soak up the melted butter
about half pint milk
grated cheese - as much as you want

lasagne sheets

Make the mince bit a bit like a bolognase suace really. Fry off the onion and garlic in olive oil until soft, add the mince and brown, then add in whatever bits of veg you want. Finally add the tin of tomotoes and some puree and herbs. If you want to add a bit of red wine too that makes the sauce nice and rich. Cook on stove. meanwhile..to make the sauce, melt the butter in a pan then stir in just enough plain flour to soak yup the butter which will give you a paste, add a litle milk at a time, whisking as you go so you don't get lumps. I always make a cheese sauce instead of a plain bechamel sauce so I always add cheese to the sauce, but I know this is very wrong in Italians' eyes!

To make up the lasagne layer the mince, sheets and cheese sauce until it's all in the dish, finishing with a layer of cheese sauce and topping with grated cheese. Cook in oven (about 190 deg) for about half an hour.

I had to offer MIL a feel of the bump, as she wouldn't without being asked, which I thought was sweet. I'm not sure if she really wants to deliver LO, it's been a few years, and as you say, I don't think I need my MIL seeing down there. I think that would change our relationship forever!

Have played with the new double buggy - in fact DH had first push, with DD in one seat and her doll in the other! Very happy with the purchase, and even more excited now!

Does eating a whole packet of choclate covered mango slices count as one of my five a day? They were fairtrade too, so I have been good in eating them!
