Cot built, baby clothes all washed and dried, drawers built and everything put away AND I made a yummy moussake for tea.DH came home, patted me on the head and said, 'Good wife' Am knackered and in need of another bath. Glad is well with everyone. Will post properly tomorrow

iris66 · 22/10/2007 22:23

very chuffed about insulin think I've given myself food poisoning tho now feeling very sick. Been padding round the house with BH's too (secretly hoping the two are related and we're kicking off tonight[hopeful emoticon] may have to go to bed in a mo as I'm feeling decidedly shakey and tired. I'll post later if anything happens

silkcushion · 22/10/2007 23:58

ooh Iris I hope it's happening - I'll send you some happy labour vibes (they'll take about 1/4 hr to get there as yr only down the road)

I'm ashamed that I haven't done any nesting or batch cooking yet. I have considered doing both though. Does that count?

Rg - my yoga class sounds less strange than yrs. It is very much about relaxation, breathing and optimal fetal positioning. No touching each other. It's been a good way to meet other mothers to be.

2 of my NCT class have produced babies now. I bet I'll be the last

Pottery painting update - I made a plate with a mummy and baby giraffe on it. this will go in the jungle themed nursery and we bought LO a toy giraffe a few weeks ago. We're assuming she'll be tall as I'm 5ft 11 and DH is 6ft 4. She'll probably just grow up with a giraffe phobia cos they were all staring at her in her crib

Think I'm going mad - probably need to go to bed . Night night

iris66 · 23/10/2007 06:19

Morning all. No news I'm afraid, I think it was food poisoning - 4 bouts of vomming in the night and I still can't keep anything down - even water! . I had a bit of a show with the last bout but I've put that down to all the straining (didn't half hurt my bump!!) rather than anything serious going on, more's the pity.

Silkcushion - thanks for the vibes (they may yet work, I've kept them for later) And it's the thought that counts regarding all the nesting (iris now wishes she'd just thought, rather than made, the toxic, salmonella filled lasagne somehow!!)The plate painting sounds lovely (as does your themed room). Did DSD enjoy it as much as you? Mummy and baby animal things always make me mushy

Jetgirl - the most bizarre things can be satisfying when you're pg can't they. Papers and ice cream is a very good way to spend the day

JARM - your room is so nearly finished!!! brilliant!. Hope the swimming oges well today.

ChocolateHobNob - I agree with RG. Be as honest as you can then you wont get caught out in the future if the subject comes up. Saying you're a paranoid first time mummy is fine and I don't think anyone could be offended by it as it's absolutely understandable. Difficult situation to be in though - I don't envy you!

Anyhoo - off back to bed to mong for a bit before DS wakes. Have good mornings all - catch you all later

Papillon · 23/10/2007 06:41

Gosh Iris, I did not know you were pregnant, All the best to you

sarahloumadam · 23/10/2007 07:05

Morning all - ITS MY LAST DAY AT WORK!!!!! (Sorry for shouting). Got up early to do some reports, no way do I want to be taking any work home with me tonight!

Iris - sorry to hear about your food poisoning - sounds bloody awful. Ikwym re hurting your belly. I have to brace myself just to cough and sneeze now. Poor you, hope you feel better soon. Might it not be the start of something though...? Great news about the insulin and potential water birth!

RG and Chocolate - I have been lurking as a fellow intending to use disposable nappies type person and now you sound like you are both wavering! I think I will get the first couple of weeks out of the way and then review. One less thing to worry about for now. My mum would be delighted if I converted.

JARM - your energy is incredible! No way would I be volunteering for paint duties at this stage. But then again, I am a lazy mare .

LOM - you are a domestic goddess! I am going to have a couple of days of doing nothing much then start nesting like fury. DH is looking forward to having a house-wife albeit a mardy, bloated one "here's your fecking tea" stomp stomp stomp...

I went to the midwife yesterday to have my blood pressure checked out because I kept getting these "floaters" in front of my eyes. Probably just tired, everything was fine and the baby has finally moved to the proper position, bum to bump and head starting to engage [petrified emotiocon!] also one foot under each rib "like a frog"! Until now he has been lolling to one side and I was starting to panic.

Must go and get ready for work - for the last time for at least 9 months!!!!! Have a good day everyone.

Pixiefish · 23/10/2007 08:14

I had my last day at work yesterday as well- although I don't really feel any different as I still have to get up with dd

RGPargy · 23/10/2007 08:49

Morning everyone!

I'm up bright and early this morning for some bizarre reason. Think i'm catching all this maternity insomnia that's going around. I woke up at about 4am and have been drifting in and out of sleep since, except when DP's alarm went off at stupid o'clock this morning. I decided to get up and have a shower and now that i'm up i'm feeling really tired again. I think dozing on the sofa (in between a trip to Homebase) is in order today!

Anna - aaahhhhh i see!! i thought that she was holding it on her fanjo!!

Jarm - glad your DH has some sense and told you to go to bed! Hope you're enjoying the swimming too btw, although 8.30am is far too early to even think about being around noisy children! Is your dad MAD leaving 15 and 17 year old boys ALONE while he's away?!!! I dont even trust my 17 year old for a weekend, let alone two boys together! Hope you dont find anything dodgy when you get there.

Jet - it could be that the gaps in the bars are wider than current safety guidelines. I think that's quite a common issue with older cots/cribs atm. LOL at your DD and the babywipes!! Little tyke!

LOM - well done you! hope you got a good rest.

Iris - sorry to hear about your poorly tum! Let's hope that it kicks starts baby into action tho, eh? Hope you feel better soon.

Sarah - YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! The last day at work is always great isn't it. I was up at the crack of dawn too for my last day. Keen? Moi??

Disposables - Dont worry, i will certainly not be defecting to the other side at first. i will be using disposables for a good few weeks and then might - here that Loopy? MIGHT - take a look at washables. I'm still a sceptic but i'm deffo not blinkered.

Pixie - Glad you had your last day too. At least you dont have to go to work, even if you are still up early.

Silk - dont get me wrong, the yoga was very much about relaxation and breathing etc but it was just this "find a partner now ladies" that put me off. We had to stand one behind the other, with the person at the back putting their forearms under the arms of the lady in front. Lady in front then goes into a squat type position while lady in back holds onto her. it's all very well if you know the lady who's armpits are you getting snuggly with, but when it's strangers, i feel really uncomfortable with it. Your pottery class sounds lovely! The giraffes sound very cute too. I bet LO will love them and will not traumatised at all.

Think i need more tea and toast. I'm feeling really tired now, despite the beautiful sunny crisp morning outside and the tv blaring!

Sarah - forgot to say great news re baby positioning and PMSL at mardy housewife. I think we're all excusable on that front!

lol Loopy - if you had disposables you wouldn't be using your electricity to wash and dry the nappies!

OP posts:
littleoldme · 23/10/2007 10:24

Jarm - The nusery sounds gorgeous. Must be very satisfying to have it finished. Hope you hasd the energy to make it to swimming.

Loopy - Thanks for the tens website, I'm going to use it. I think I'm going to wait till LO is here until I embark on buying washables. I'll get a few sample and see what fits best.

Choc - I wouldn't worry about the crib. I'm sure your mate will understand, as you would if it was the other way around.

Iris Great news about your insulin. That must be a real weight off your mind. And you get to have the birth you want! Food poisoning sounds v horrid

Sarah - Enjoy your last day Think how great it will feel when you wake up tomorrow morning. How come your school doesn't have the decency to be on half term this week?

Rg - Enjoy your snooze.

Think I'll have a lazy one after yesterday's manicness.

Have just realised that I left a basket of washing in garden all night

jetgirl · 23/10/2007 10:39

RG - that makes sense about the bars. Our crib is more like a Moses basket, so that's probably what I was picturing when Chocolate mentioned hers.
I couldn't help but laugh when I saw DD with the wipes. She was even funnier when later on I heard her saying 'i'd like milk mummy', and went to the bottom of the stairs only to see an arm sticking through the bannisters clutching her beaker. She looked like a prisoner . At least she did sleep until 7:30 today, so my sleep was only interrupted by being uncomfortable.

Loopy - it's a lovely day here, washables would be drying on my line (don't have a tumble drier anyway!)

Sarah and Pixie - welcome to the mat-leavers!

JARM - how do you do it all?! I can barely contemplate washing up let alone decorating the house!

Easy - keeping fingers crossed for you. It sounds like Marnie should be the right way by the time she decides to make her appearance.

iris - hope you're feeling better today

V excited as our double buggy arrived today. I ran to the door when I saw the delivery driver crossing the road with the box. He clearly thought I was insane Would it be really sad of me to push it around the house - as a test drive of course!? Went for the combi We 2 in the end, and got a great price on Twins UK - £70 cheaper than Mothercare, and delivered in 3 days instead of the 5 days the girl in Mothercare said it would take.

Have a good day all

Pixiefish · 23/10/2007 10:41

RG- lol re your comment to loopy- but if you were like me you would be reusing dd's cloth nappies so you wouldn't be buying any so it wouldn't matter about washing costs

RGPargy · 23/10/2007 10:47

Jet - Glad you at least got a bit of lay in this morning. LOL @ your Prisoner DD! Bless her! It is deffo a MUST for you to be pushing it round the house! You'll only be considered a loony if you DONT push it round. We've all had a push around the house here, including DS (17), although i'd best not tell his mates - something to blackmail him with perhaps?

Right, am off to Homebase now to get some paint for the nursery. Still nowhere near finished but i need to get primer for the wooden wardrobe that's being built (long story). I might see if they've got any nice curtains too. I'm going to go for magnolia (or similar) walls with chocolate accessories and just a touch of pink accessories here and there.

Have a nice morning everyone!

OP posts:
RGPargy · 23/10/2007 10:48

Pixie - surely it's swings and roundabouts re washing/electricity costs vs cost of disposables?

OP posts:
JARM · 23/10/2007 11:18

Morning!!!

Well, after not getting to sleep until gone 2am (pregnancy insomnia hitting now!) I was up at 7.30am and getting ready for the swim!

Got to swimming at 8.30am and it was great! We had the whole pool to ourselves, so was bliss! The kids had great fun. We then rather naughtily went to mcdonalds for breakfast, and then up to homebase to get the last few bits for the girls bedroom.... it will be all finished by tomorow!!!

Am lying on the bed just chilling here now for a while, am feeling very tired, but that may be due to lack of sleep!

Will pop over to my dads this afternoon and pray the boys havent wrecked the house!

Take care all xxx

Pixiefish · 23/10/2007 12:33

RG- according to various reports I have read no it isn't swings and roundabouts. Reusables are cheaper. There was a report published a few years ago which said differently but that was commissioned by a nappy company and the data was totally flawed. It based it's results on all sorts of ridiculous data- used a sample of 2000 disposable users and 200 reusable nappy users. Also took into account ironing the nappies!!!!! er nope. and washingt hem at 95- erm nope.

Have a look at this for comparison

Pixiefish · 23/10/2007 12:34

That was my website btw but I sold it to the council a few years ago when they finally agreed to a voucher scheme for real nappies

ELB1 · 23/10/2007 12:38

Rant alert!
On my first non working day in a lot of years yesterday, I was gifted with a visit from the parents in-law who are down here visiting B&SIL (parents in law live a good 6 hours drive north so don't come too often thankfully - not that they don't mean well, but they are sooo old fashioned and formal that things are just a bit tense around them IYKWIM).
DH had taken the day off work, so all was not too bad as he could "entertain" them but he then left me to it when he went off with nephew to play footie in the garden.
FIL made some comment about letting him know as soon as the baby is coming so they can dash into the car and make it down here straight away - and I tried tactfully to explain that actually I would quite like to have LO, have time to get home from hospital and get my head around things before having visitors - trying desparatly to be kind and reminding them that it's a bit different when family lives closer and can pop in for a couple of hours then go home to the "stay for a week" variety.
He looked shocked and gutted and I felt sooo bad - but not as badly as I could have murdered DH who was supposed to have tackled this with them already. Can't believe it fell on me - FIL already thinks I'm some kind of monster for being a working girl and therefore not the kind of wife he envisaged for his son (v old fashioned man). But TBH - I couldn't stand the thought of PILs here while I am trying to learn what to do with a baby, and at the same time being moody, leaky and all the other stuff.
Does anyone else have the "family visitors" dilemma. Help and advice much needed!

silkcushion · 23/10/2007 12:50

ELB - I've just got back from a breastfeeding support group where I met up with a girl I did pregnancy yoga with. Her baby was 12 days late and her in laws arrived from Spain on that day and stayed for a whole week . Her mil said "you look like you've got another in there waiting to come out. You have to do something about that fat stomach or it won't go away!!!!!"

I'd have told her to f**k off back to Spain. Her DH did tell his mum off about it and I suppose they booked the flights a month ago thinking the baby would be nearly 2 weeks old. But TBH she said it was a complete nightmare. She is a first time mum and was trying to get to grips with bf etc with her mil and fil in the flat.

Can't they either stay with yr bil and sil and pop over and visit you or wait a few weeks until they are invited down to stay for a few days. Yr DH needs to be sorting this one out.

superloopy · 23/10/2007 13:05

EBL1 - I know exactly how you feel. My MIL is coming to stay with us for 10 days and arriving 3 days after my due date.
She lives near Winchester we are in Melbourne (Aust) FFS. I thought I would have a little more baby time than that before she arrived.
My DD was 9 days late so I just know this LO will be late too.
When I went into labour with DD, my DH called MIL to let her know and she and SIL were at our flat in London within 2 1/2 hrs.
I was not impressed as I didn't need a crowd of people in our little flat when I was in labour for the first time.
Maybe next time I will marry and orphan!!

Hi everyone. I haven't been on for a few days as came down with a horrible sickness bug on Friday and only feeling better today.

Well 36 weeks and only a few days left at work thank godness.

Some people may remember that I wasn't looking forward to this week as all my friends at work are either based far away or on leave this week. Anyway, yesterday all my team came to Birmingham and took me out for a lovely lunch. They then gave me £100 of vouchers a big box of chocolates and a big bunch of flowers. I feel much better!!

Can't believe that we will soon have a flurry of babies being born!!

littleoldme · 23/10/2007 13:44

I really feel for those of you with family issues. I'm really fortunate as my family are great. The only PITA is my dad and I haven't spoken to him for over 10 years.

Rg and Loopy - would you go with sized or one size - all in ones or wraps. I've been recc'd the motherease one size but they look huge for a little one. Equally well, I don't want to buy them twice.
