holidaysqueen - normal gym balls are fine but i was told by my mw i couldnt use mine in hospital when in labour unless it was a proper labour one! they have bumpy bits on so they wont skid out from under tyou and are less likely to pop apparently

i havent bought much clothes wise for the little un as i have lots of outfits left from dd2. i did buy a pack of body suits and sleep suits in white and pink so i have 6 of each. sdly i sent off all my babygrows and vests to the charity shop after dd2 so there the only thing i need. trying to pursuade relatives not to buy out fits when shes born cos i always end up with hundreds and ive already got loads

PurlyQueen · 16/11/2007 17:22

Ooh - speaking of gym balls. I found a bargain at Borders, the bookshop, of all places!
I bought a an exercise kit which contains a book, DVD and inflatable ball for tenner.

Lucky preggers and anyone else who is still getting rumpy pumpy - my husband has become extremely coy

ClaphamLauren · 16/11/2007 21:38

Glamma - the scriptwriters strike is why Ugly Betty is no longer on, we get them in pretty much realtime and apparently that is why there are no more episodes. Well, that's what I heard anyway!

Damn the no sex rules, well done for coping with that ladies, I'm not sure my hormones would allow it.

frannieinthecity · 16/11/2007 22:27

hi all - I wrote on hear ages ago but haven't been back for a while so you've probably forgotten me. Congratulations on all the scans and good news.
I have a quick question, having had a scan and found out that I am having a boy I am now beginning to think about STUFF. But prams and buggies and mothercare freaks me out - so much! - could you remind me where the thread for advice on prams is? I've looked but can't find it.
Thanks!

ClaphamLauren · 16/11/2007 22:31

It was started by Imjin100 so maybe do a search for her threads? (Where is she btw? Hols?)

Congrats on the little boy Frannie!

glammama · 17/11/2007 09:10

morning,
this is the buggy thread I'm totally anal and saved it.

HolidaysQueen · 17/11/2007 11:07

I think imjin is on holiday so hopefully she'll be back and talking to us soon (and the virtue of cyberspace is we don't have to get envious of her suntan...)

Today is thoroughly depressing here in west London - grey, damp and cold. I'm about to have my third cuppa of the day in an attempt to cheer myself up (the baby is probably having a caffeine high right now!) and I'm going to be all homely and sit down with my baby blanket - only got the last row to finish stitching together. Yay!

Then I'm going to have to succumb to the inevitable - my wardrobe needs resorting so that the non-maternity clothes are put away and the maternity clothes are prominently displayed. I've been kidding myself for ages that I can still fit into my normal clothes but I think the time has come to admit defeat!

littleducks · 17/11/2007 17:12

just a quick hello and a word of warning to those starting baby clothes shopping, dont be seduced by pretty things without checking the care labels, things should be tumble drier friendly (i didnt own one til dd was born and dont use it much now but in the first few weeks its a lifesaver) and definately machine washable can you believe they make handwash only baby clothes, who would ever have the time, or inclination after a few leaky nappies

modsaluk · 18/11/2007 09:33

Good morning everyone.

Clapham - I was wondering why Ugly Betty was not on this Friday love that show.

Where can i view the photos of peoples bumps would love to put one on but it might be too scary with the stretch marks from last time so wanted to view others first.

People having twins or who already have them do you put them in the same moses basket and cot or seperate ones. Love feeling them kicking and sometimes feel them kick together which is a strange feeling to feel two kicks in different places lol. Does anyone know a good site to find out information on twins would appreciate knowing how to bathe, put them to sleep and breastfeed two at once.

Hope you all have a good day.

gingercat12 · 18/11/2007 13:07

glammama I actually copied the main points of that thread into a document so that DH can read it. Am I sad?

And I've just bought a gym ball. After the active birth class they almost had to twist the gym ball out of my hands , I have just fallen in love with it.

spugs It is great you are feeling better.

fitnforty · 18/11/2007 13:36

hello all
got some good news from work on friday - they've agreed that the whole issue of my maternity pay was badly managed and agreed i should get the whole return to work bonus which was in the policy at the time i notified them. So very happy with that! Mind you, have yet to get it in writing
Also gave HR my official notice of when i'm off on mat leave, even though i've got another week to do that officially. Officially going from 22 Feb, but got about 16 days leave to take, so planning to go properly around 6 Feb and use any spare days to reduce my working week from Jan...except for bloomin' year end, month end and audits going on between now and then!
Feels more exciting now!

Also, the inlaws have offered to pay for whatever buggy/pushchair/travel system i want...no upper price limit mentioned! However at the risk of being a little OTT, i may have to restrain myself

fitnforty · 18/11/2007 13:44

Suppose i should be adding this on the pushchair thread, but...
Preggers - is the xplory suitable from birth just as the pushchair, or do you need to get the carrycot bit? In which case, is the complete system worthwhile or not really adding anything except price?

merryberry · 18/11/2007 14:03

modsluk, tamba is the big name org in multiple and twins family help, i think they do a lot offline as well as online.

then there are the two main twins online groups -

twinsclub

twinsonline

enjoy

ClaphamLauren · 18/11/2007 15:11

fitnforty - You do need the carrycot as they have to be able to lie flat from birth to about 6months ish (when they can apparently prop themselves/hold head up etc). Saw a woman post on here that she is selling her brand new one for £500, I bought one a while ago so I'm a little biased in thinking it's pretty awesome!

one for sale on here

I have the turquoise one and it's good for a girl or boy IMO.

fitnforty · 18/11/2007 19:01

can't get the link to work CL?

Though having read through some of the other posts, apparently the xplory isn't very good on uneven surfaces?
Think i might have to post my own "help" thread !!!
Other than that, any recommendations for which high-street retailers are most helpful with advice and are you better to book appointments or should you just be able to show up? Unless we buy online, got to go with the bigger chains available in S.Wales but M/Care and ToysRUs are the only places i've seen with a wide selection

ClaphamLauren · 18/11/2007 19:57

Hmm strange, it's under For Sale message board.

Yes, I've heard the uneven thing but given that I live in London not really an issue. However, if lots of country walks are going to be on the agenda you may wanna look at something else. I went to Daisy and Tom and they said it's very much a city buggy! Not used it yet so certainly no expert.

fitnforty · 18/11/2007 21:07

Ah, found it, the link you gave was a diff number but assume it's the same one!
Bit too awkward to collect mind you, so keeping an eye on ebay in the meantime thanks!

e14mum · 19/11/2007 11:26

Hello. Not much new here, but wanted to say hi. Anyone get snow this morning? (No way here in London!)

I saw a friend of mine who is a midwife this weekend- and she recently had a delivery where the parents had been told LO was a boy from the scan- and it was a girl!! Eeek!

Has anyone ordered from vertbaudet before? I love some of their nursery items, but are they as lovely in rl?

Hope you're all doing well.

HolidaysQueen · 19/11/2007 12:09

Hi e14mum - no snow, just rain for me (but then I'm London too)

We had a baby-tastic sort of weekend. I took DH round Mothercare on Saturday just to get him acquainted with some of the equipment we'll be getting. He was horrified at the prospect of our little newborn being plonked in a huge cot on his/her own and is insisting we buy a moses basket as "it is a bit more womb-like and cosy"! I was feeling the same but didn't want to say in case he secretly took a Spartan approach to child rearing so I'm v pleased that he came to that conclusion himself. We've agreed we'll get a moses basket for the first few months (useful as well because we aren't yet sure if we'll have baby in our room or not, or for how long, so can move the moses basket around more easily) and then buy a cotbed to last until baby is practically school age.

We then spent yesterday shifting stuff around the house (well, he shifted furniture and I tidied up after him, supervised and made tea!). The guest room is becoming our nursery, so we moved all the furniture into the new guest room in the loft and then moved the spare chest of drawers, chair and wardrobe into the nursery. So we now have a lovely nursery, albeit with absolutely no baby items and lots of boring adulty pictures still on the walls!

I've still only bought two babygrows but think we'll wait until after the scan on Thursday before we invest in anything else. Feeling a bit nervous about it, but mostly excited!

e14mum · 19/11/2007 12:31

HQ- sounds like you had a lovely weekend! Your DH sounds like he's going to be a very caring dad.

It's been really hard to do this- but I'm trying to wait until the January sales to buy anything new. I missed our local NCT sale on the weekend as we were at a wedding, but may try to hit one in another area soon if I can.

merryberry · 19/11/2007 13:24

HQ, cribs are fab to have by your bed in the early few months. From my experience, top tip when choosing one is to go for the least creaky possible. Give it a good wobble in the shop! Wicker moses baskets can make an awful lot of squeaks when the baby moves, and part of your brain is always surfacing from sleep to check if that was a baby squeak or a just cane-on-cane noise. I had to move ds from moses (which we were lent) to cotbed at 7 weeks to get any real sleep between feeds. If we get one for this ds, rather than a bed side cot, I'll be after a canvas sided one this time round.

glammama · 19/11/2007 13:42

Hi all,
I have a bedside cot from DD which I'm going to use from birth. If this baby is as big as they're predicting (and they might be wrong) then I don't imagine he'd be in a crib for long so I'm not really happy about spending money on one. Having said that I've just remembered my sister had a crib so I might just give her a ring. I'm also getting from her two huge bags of little boy's clothes. For the first 12 months they grow so quickly, I'm going to save my money and just have second hand where possible. They just get covered in sick, milk, wee and poo anyway!

ooops!

preggersagain · 19/11/2007 13:51

ooooohh baby shopping!

Moses baskets are good but don't spend too much- M&P ones are about 90 quid- and get outgrown in weeks!

just to turn people green with envy we have purchased two of these www.mumzheaven.co.uk/acatalog/wicker_cribs.html they are absolutley MASSIVE!! so they should last a fair while! they will both go in one to start with and we'll see how it goes from there!

then they have cotbeds!

Its all getting a bit real now isn't it !!!
