Oh my gaaawd I had so many sweeps with baby number 1, they're not the nicest experience but they helped a few friends along with their little ones! X

Emmy2020 · 14/08/2020 17:28

@ShiningStarz Was quite a while ago but I’d just say uncomfortable! Quite quick though.

ShiningStarz · 14/08/2020 17:29

Oh dear @Emmy2020 @mamamemmmer I'll not be looking forward to the process then 🙈🤣

Laura1348 · 14/08/2020 18:50

Hello all- hope you’re all well
Just wondering if anyone had any advice on formula?
I know I just need newborn but which brand is better?
Thanks

MooseWL · 14/08/2020 20:07

@lattelover12 how you discipline your kids?! What a bizarre question, how strange!
I just went to ikea got myself an ice cream then remembered I'm not meant to eat machine ice cream 😭
I couldn't bring myself to eat it so had to give it so my sister in law. Was very sad!

Emmy2020 · 14/08/2020 20:20

@LatteLover12 Yeah that’s a really strange question to ask you, how you discipline!
@MooseWL Ohno having to give your icecream away! I wasn’t sure if you could eat those either. I did give in to Macdonalds milkshakes though and it was sooo good!

MooseWL · 14/08/2020 20:30

@emmy2020 I almost ate it as I figured the risks are so low, but then the what ifs invaded and I thought I've come this far only 6ish more weeks!
I got home and had some ice cream from the freezer instead 😁

LatteLover12 · 14/08/2020 20:41

Yeah, I thought I should avoid telling her about locking them in the cellar/beating them with a stick so I said we talked things through/had time out where necessary.

I also didn't tell her about all the heroin... 😂

Lilice · 14/08/2020 21:11

@LatteLover12 🤣🤣🤣 imagine her face if you did 😂
@Laura1348 I used aptamil with my first but the smell of it was awful, and I used cow and gate with my second. They both had reflux so I had to get special milks for them. I think i also answered your message on the suffolk babies group 😉
@Chanel05 ohhhh how exciting about the mucus plug, have you noticed any other signs?
I'm so glad the temperatures have gone down a bit. One of my legs has been swelling a lot more than the other so I had to go to the hospital yesterday to get a dvt nurse to scan it. Luckily she didn't see any clots. I've got my parents visiting now so im doing absolutely nothing, feels good to be able to put my feet up 😄

Laura1348 · 14/08/2020 21:15

@Lilice hi
Thanks. I thought I'd post in a few places as shopping tomorrow and sweep Monday so may need it quickly!
Thanks very much.
I just want it at home you know invade bf doesn't work! 🤞 crossed all goes to plan.
Thank you

Lilice · 14/08/2020 21:20

Oh wow good luck for Monday!!! 🤞 the sweep works for you, as well as the BF @Laura1348

MooseWL · 14/08/2020 21:29

@lattelover12 😂😂

My health visitor (she was a student I think she must have been about 19) told me I was super easy and a dream patient because I said I don't smoke, stopped drinking when I got preggo and both me and my partner are working. She must have had fairly low expectations, they must see some things...

Emmy2020 · 14/08/2020 21:45

@MooseWL Ah well at least you got some icecream in the end 😁

Emmy2020 · 14/08/2020 21:46

@LatteLover12 😂

Emmy2020 · 14/08/2020 21:48

Isn’t it better how much cooler it is, I can actually get under the duvet.

Sara7455 · 14/08/2020 21:51

Are health visitors still visiting in your areas? Around here they’re only visiting high risk babies due to covid from what I’ve been told. We’re getting visits as Wren is so premature but my SIL has a four month old who hasn’t seen one once.

ShiningStarz · 14/08/2020 22:02

I got a call from the health visitor but I declined a visit. She said it's more important once baby is born but left me her number if I had any queries or needed any support in the final weeks. Every area likely to be different.

LatteLover12 · 14/08/2020 22:08

Mine was an hour long phone call 😳

sianyflewog · 15/08/2020 07:35

I haven’t heard from my health visitor at all! I didn’t on H either though, just saw her when he was about a week old. I also heard that sometimes they like to have a look around your house, check where baby’s sleeping etc. but mine never did. Which is terrible really because are they making all those judgements just on area you live in, what you look like, what your house looks like from the outside/in the living room?

sianyflewog · 15/08/2020 07:38

I did watch something on TV about there being (something like) a 400% rise in cases of PND through lockdown so maybe they’re ringing to check on mental health etc too? They could also be establishing those who are priority to be seen post-birth?
I don’t understand how people are not seen at all though - how do you get your little red book? How is baby weighed to ensure they’re making the right progress etc?

Lazydaisydaydream · 15/08/2020 07:39

@Laura1348 I wouldn't buy a lot of formula to start with... From speaking to friends it seems people seem to have to try a few before they find one which agrees with their baby, so you don't want to have done a big bulk buy and then not be able to use it! And from a practical point of view try to use one that you can get hold of easily from lots of different places (rather than having to make a special trip miles away!). Apart from that I think they are all much of a muchness. There was a great documentary a few years ago called something like "the great formula milk scandal" talking about how really similar they all are and it all just comes down to marketing etc.

Lazydaisydaydream · 15/08/2020 07:41

@sianyflewog I am really worried about the lack of visits after birth. When I had my son I ended up staying under midwife care for a month, they came every day or other day, helped me figure out my feeding problems, and really helped a lot with my mental health. I honestly dont know what I would have done without that. And now they aren't doing any home visits at all.

sianyflewog · 15/08/2020 08:22

@Lazydaisydaydream I was the same - I wasn’t discharged from the antenatal clinic and had to go weekly/bi-weekly for about 6 weeks because of my anxiety! It’s no wonder women are struggling.
I’m really hoping this time round I feel more relaxed (although I felt super relaxed before H was born too, it was just after he came that I didn’t!) - I certainly won’t be reading the whole internet this time round 🙈

Laura1348 · 15/08/2020 08:37

@Lazydaisydaydream
Great advice. Thank you

sianyflewog · 15/08/2020 08:42

@Laura1348 By law all formulas have to contain the same things really, because they all have to provide the same nutrients and vitamins to a baby. I went with Aptamil because there was something about it being closest to breast milk, and I was combi feeding, but it is just a marketing strategy.
I had bottles and one emergency formula here for just in case it got to 10pm on a Sunday night when nothing was open and I decided I couldn’t breastfeed anymore. If you know you’re going to formula feed maybe buy a couple of tins of whatever you’re going to go with, but like @lazydaisydaydream said be sure it agrees with baby before you bulk buy xx
