Evening all!

Was it just me or did Bringing Up Baby not seem so shocking this time around? Dont get me wrong, there were bits that i was very about but i wasn't shouting at the screen this week. The thing i wasn't keen on was giving the richer formula at night. I dont know if i'm right or not but i think a baby should stick to one type/brand of formula and not mix and match because it might screw up their digestive system. I could be totally wrong, but that's the way my little mind works! The other thing was CV being her usual self re babies not needing cuddles and allowing them to scream their heads off when they have colic! Honestly, that bloody woman!!

Choudru - that poor woman being on her own! Must be very daunting for her if she has no DP coming to even rub her back. I love Davina Macall. I think she's very down to earth as well as a bit mental - a bit like me in some ways!

I still haven't had a Wispa since they've been relaunched. Every time i think of buying one, there's never any about! Plus I'd feel a bit guilty if i had one too as we're still trying to much our way through the box of stuff from Sweetie World. Getting bored of its contents now tho.

Silk - i'm too stumped for words!!! Mind you, there are chocolate bars that even I dont like!! Hope your obstetric whatjamacallit is ok.

Fiona - Even more at you for not even HEARING of them!! Be ashamed. Be VERY ashamed!!

Loopy - yeah, life was pretty shit back then but hey, you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find your prince, as they say. I'm just happy in the knowledge that he'll get his kharma (if he hasn't got it already) and will be served his just desserts! Sorry to hear your DP is uninterested Perhaps he will be different once baby arrives? I'm sure he'll come round when he sees baby for the first time.

Sparkly - hmmm..... perhaps it's worth getting a swaddling blanket after all then!

nykate - sorry to hear you are having a crap time with the vomming. Poor you! I think it can be pretty normal to get it back again in the third trimester but give your MW a call if you're worried about it.

Jossie - aahhhh i see!! If you put an asterisk around a word, it will bold it, like this so if you put three asterisks together, all you would have got is an asterisk in bold. Geddit? Sorry have x-posted with Pixie but i cant be bothered to delete that bit of my post now.

Well here's a turn up for the books. DS is watching a DOCUMENTARY about asteroids and it's NOT one of those "weather behaving badly" type things where people film it with video cams etc. I'm impressed! Normally his documentaries consist of Police Camera Action or bloody Top Gear!!

ChocolateHobnob · 10/10/2007 07:55

Hi all

RG, I agree. Maybe we're used to Claire Verity by now...?! To be honest, I spend most of the programme trying to see the cute little babies. DH says I've become a mad baby stalker - I peer into prams at newborns and get all excited.

Silk, lucky you. I've developed an addiction to Wispas a bit too fast!

NYKate, poor you with the vomiting! I expect it is your squashed stomach. I've felt sick a few times but no actual sickness. My problem is constipation - I am all blocked up! Made a huge veggie chilli with aubergine, black beans and kidney beans to try to remedy it - had that last night with sour cream, tortillas, guacamole and cheese -it hasn't had any effect yet though. Boo.

Choudru, good idea about the hospital bags.

Loopy, sorry your DH isnt that interested. Maybe he's just more blase cos you've been there before?

Mw visit this am and then working at work after that. But a shorter day. Am shattered as had yet another crap night's sleep. Cant believe it gets worse from here in!

Have a good day all.

RGPargy · 10/10/2007 10:26

Morning everyone

This time next week will be my last day in the office........ I am tempted to go on Friday to be honest, but i'm meant to be going out with the girls on my last day for an Italian meal so i cant really let them down coz getting them all in the same place at the same time is a huuuuuge mission!

Choc - poor you re constipation! I would have thought the chilli would deffo have got you going! Just make sure you stay near a loo today, just in case you are caught very much unawares!! I always have a lingering glance at the contents of pushchairs now too, thinking "oooo that'll be me soon!!".

silkcushion · 10/10/2007 11:29

Am joining RG and Hobnob in crazy baby stalking. Can't get enough of seeing little cuties and wondering what will mine look like?

Washed baby clothes yesterday and spent nearly an hour just looking at them drying on the radiator last night thinking - we're going to have a little person who fits in that. Dh was quite sweet too when he came home from a crappy day at work quite late - he looked at this little baby grow with a giraffe on it and just beamed.

Jossie - I'm 5'11 and baby is lying in all kinds of positions. I'm also 33 weeks today. From what my Mum said, none of us engaged until about 38 weeks, which may be due to her being tall too. Not sure if this helps

fiona76 · 10/10/2007 15:01

I'm also 5'11 and 35 weeks now and the baby is still moving around quite a alot one day their are feet sticking in my hip and the next in my ribs so I think it must be normal for us tall girls.

Easywriter · 10/10/2007 15:04

Chocolatehobnob - not sure you did a good thing with the chill, sounds like you've just created a 'pace car' situation to me! (L*rd I hope you are familiar with Roger Mellie's profanosaurus so that I don't have to explain that one).

RG - I wasn't shouting at the TV yesterday either. I think my mind is made up that she's just there to bloster viewing figures and anything she says is purely for us to laugh at. She IS evil though isn't she.

Choudru - Aaargh! Hospital bags! I bought whay Mothercare reckon are 2 days supply of maternity sanitary towels yesterday and then it all came back to me. Last time I hired a ... ...small-ish articulated lorry to get all the stuff I needed to hospital (and I still didn't have half of what's on your usual recommended list). Is that how it is for everyone? I usually pride myself on packing light.

I'm on the baby stalking too!
I seem unable to do anything but grin like a loony as soon as anyone under the age of 1 is in the vicinity. The younger they are the more I grin. I'm not sure if it's 'Argh! Mentalist, smile and back away' or 'Look at that nice lady she's so huge she's bound to be having one of her own any minute now' looks that I'm eliciting but at least I get smiles back.

Silk - I'm so envious of you getting the baby stuff ready. My poor body is trying so hard to nest that it's given up being subtle and is screaming to put all the stuff Marnie needs in the wash and into her wardrobe for her. My plaster claims he's back with me tommorrow unitl the job's finished so hopefully by next Wednesday I'll have my date with the washing machine. And though you'd never believe it if you knew me in RL I have to say I can't wait!!

Bunny - Is this your first babe? Apparently subsequent babies tend not to engage until labour, so I read somewhere that I can't remember, though if anyone cares to add anything to this I'd be interested as a consultant that I saw on Monday told me to come to hospital if my waters broke (because she's not engaged).Though I know this is because the cord could come down first followed by baby, thus cutting off oxygen supply and causing problems, if most 2nd etc babes don't engage until labour then why should I bother going to hospital as I'm not high risk for it happening or anything?
( I haven't bothered my midwife with a call cause I'll see her on Monday and I'm SURE my waters are not going to break (over due with twins, surely all the smart money's with me on this))

berrybliss · 10/10/2007 16:00

I've actually had a productive morning today!
Very proud of myself. Baked a cherry and almond cake very scrummy!

ALSO MY QUINNY TRAVEL SYSTEM ARRIVED TODAY!!
I ordered it late on Monday and it arrived today i was very impressed!

Its beautiful and really easy to put together, even i managed without getting cross and admitting defeat! (as i always seem to do when i have to construst anything!)

So now i'm on a high i've been pushing it around and trying out all the attachments. I'm soooo broooooody now!

Also recently i've been having funny twinges like a shooting pain. (but not really painful) in my fanjo. is this normal? At night i get lots of little shooting twinges. But today i was walking around and got two big twinges.... hmmmm... what do you think?

berrybliss · 10/10/2007 16:01

*construct

FCH · 10/10/2007 16:37

Having a bad day...

First of all I was a total idiot this morning and put a load of mixed colours in with a previously unwashed navy blue cardi (very attractive work item) and have died my favourite pink pjama bottoms a revolting shade of grey. Then I went to the hairdresser and decided that as I don't have to tie my hair in a bun for the next 8 months it would be nice to have a bit more shape at the front. I asked for it all to be long enough to go behind my ears, so what did I get? Yes, a stupid looking chunky fringe at least 2 inches too short to go anywhere near my ears!! Aaarrggh. Then rushed home to meet the lady who is supposed to be bringing the nursery curtains and discovered that while I was out having my UTTERLY DISASTROUS haircut I missed not one but two delivery men! And then the curtain lady phoned to say she isn't coming after all. I almost cried!!

Although on the bright side the doorbell just went and one of my delivery men came back and he brought my BPIAB - so RG the answer is they don't take long to arrive as I only ordered it on Monday!

So fingers crossed that the colour run remover currently in the washing machine with my pjamas also works...

I am so pissed off and I've got indegestion so I can't even face a big slice of fruit cake to cheer me up

By the way - Loopy, you are right, an hour is not far in Devon, and if you fancy meeting halfway then 30 mins is nothing!!

Off to cry now!!

LizzieO · 10/10/2007 16:50

well good flippin grief !!!!!

ok so ihaven't posted since last Wed but still, its taken me almost an hour just to skim read all the previous postings

anyways i hope today finds you all well and dandy, i'm 36 weeks today, and like you RG my last work day is next Weds....

Have an abso-bloody-lutley stinker of a cold, and now officially have insomnia !!!! come 10 oclock i'm horizontal on sofa giving it the Zzzzzz'sss or rather really loud snorey snorting (poor DH) as soon as i go to bed i wake up literally an hour later, then can't bloody sleep, and i'm off to the loo i would say on average once a hour, i can't understand why i don't feel tireder than i do...ho hum

Iris - thanks for the measurements for Calin Bleu sling, know what .....i might just treat myself, as DS kicks up such a fuss over having to walk anywhere (most little boys don't seem to like walking do they )i think him in buggy and LO in sling

SparklyGothKat
So please youhave Callum at home with you, ans that you established bf. Was just thinking that i have all these prem baby growsuits and vests, as i'm now 36 weeks i was thinking that even if LO does still come early, will still be too big for prem stuff, i could post it onto you if you like ? i will check back and see what you say as i could send out from work on Monday, otherwise i will just take it into SCIBU at hospital

Had first ante-ntal class this morning, DH also came, was lovely made everything seem a bit more real, MW showed child birth vid, was about as tame as you could get as it was woman having home birth so it was all very nicey nicey, with her just kind of having a slight wince as LO comes out, not kidding tho; this one woman in class looked absolutely traumatised by it, i mean i guess it did bring it all home a bit

will try and post a bit more regularly
love to yous all
Lx

geekInPigtails · 10/10/2007 17:25

Hey everyone, sorry I've not been on in a while - my mat leave started last Tuesday, and at the moment I still feel like I'm "cheating" somehow if I spend very long on the computer! Like I should either be doing something productive around the house, or resting All's well generally, although it looks like I might have a UTI

Anyway, could I just ask a quick question, probably for the experienced mums? I know I could start a thread about it, but I feel like it might be a stupid question, so I thought I'd ask you guys first! It's about the whole scratch mitt thing - I understand that babies fingernails can be quite long by the time their born, and you obviously don't want them to scratch themselves. But surely the real solution to that is to cut their nails? So, do they need scratch mitts because you're not supposed to cut their nails for the first few days/weeks for some reason? Or are they really just for the first couple of hours before you get around to finding some nail clippers?!

ChocolateHobnob · 10/10/2007 18:47

Easywriter.... I know what you mean and you may be right!

FCH, sorry about the hair!! I'm getting mine done tomorrow. I hope they know what I mean... but you can sort it out!

Berry, I've had that a lot over last few weeks. Mw said it's the head butting the pelvic floor, nothing to worry about. Just means lo is moving down! Painful though sometimes - if quick.

Lizzie, the thread moves very very fast!

My news is I went to the mw today. I knew lo had moved because my bump had changed shape completely suddenly and the movements felt different. Anyway... it turns out lo is either breech or OP - they couldnt tell. There were 2 of them trying to work it out, and couldnt. So they've booked me in for a scan on Friday at the hospital to see what's going on. Weird cos lo has been in the best possible position until now (3/5 for 6 weeks or so and anterior) and I'm 37 weeks. Anyway the good thing is I get to see lo again on Friday on camera! The bad news is it might be breech... I'm going to be back on all fours tonight for sure!

Otherwise it's been a tiring day cos was awake even more of the night than usual, so it's a lazy evening for me (on all fours!)...

Hope you're all doing okay!

capecodder · 10/10/2007 18:50

Hello everyone,

Silk- I am completely with you- I washed all of babys clothes, blankets and towels over the weekend and smiled at each and every garment as I folded them. It made me nearly giddy. However, i still don't have a nursery, pram or hospital bag ready yet....need to get organised. and fast.

I am also a baby stalker but am more secretive than my DH who openly stares and points and grins.

berry- i've been getting my twinges in my fango for months now. When I asked my MW she said it was normal and that it is more than likely baby laying on a specific nerve. but I am open to other ideas for reasons.

lizze- i also have a terrible cold and am feeling very sorry for myself. i am sure that there should be a law somewhere that you can't get sick when you're pregnant.

went to ante-natal class on monday and was doing well until MW got out a plastic model of the various stages of dialation. by the time the model arrived at the 10in stage the space was the size of a dinner plate-and it made me feel faint! Getting very real now.

LizzieO that would be lovely, if you are sure My email is mieow79 (at) hotmail (dot) com. I am so happy that you are holding onto your baby

HV came today, Callum has only put on 1oz since friday, but she said not to worry. The jaudice has returned so we have to put him in sunlight and she will review it next week and if he is still yellow, she will send us back to the hospital.

LK2boyzma · 10/10/2007 20:35

Hell all, have not had the chance to get on board all day!

LizzieO: I had a bad night too last night despite my strategy on going to bed late.Last night was a night mare as I could not settle on either side, after a few minutes of turning I felt as if I was sleeping on pins and needles. Then when I thought things were getting better, good old DH left his alarm on snooze and went downstairs. OK he was being helpful getting DS ready for school, but the alarm disturbed me so much that the little sleep I had left disappeared,

Anyway, just like someone mentioned, the things that DHs do trying to help can be turn out to be disastrous!

Rg- So which channel has this famous 'bringing-up-baby' thing going then! I always think I am up to date with these baby programmes but obviously not! I seem to have missed this one

Fiona- You and me both- I have never heard of wispas, so I will join you in the shame, but then again I am not a chocolate person but it would be nice to know what it looks /tastes like!

I read a couple of stories in the paper today about how DH feel about being present during labour. one guy said it was an opp of a life time and would not miss it for the world! The other guy said he only did it because he felt that it was an expectation that H be there. Buut confessed that he was not of much help to his wife and had to walk out towards the end and let his sister be with his wife instead because she was more helpful than he was!

I asked my DH later his reasons for being in, with me and he did not feel pressure, just sure thats what he wanted to be part of!

Choc- Have you considered an enema (quite helpful when constipated)but you will definately need to make sure you have the toilet to yourself all day!

FCH-sorry you had a bad-hair-day today, I had mine done too today but the chairs were so uncomfortable that I was left wondering if its worth a return journey

nykate- Hope you feel better soon!

FCH · 10/10/2007 20:42

Right - DH is home and has said nice things about the hair (including "it will grow back you know") and I am almost ready to admit that I have been overreacting a tad, but thank you to LK and Chocolate for the sympathy, which is always most appreciated!

SGK - I am sorry about the jaundice and low weight gain, but I thought at this point any gain was good?

Loopy, I have emailed you to say hi and give you my number - Tavistock is a great idea - I take it you are out on the Moor then? Let me know when is a good time for you!

PS - My name is FCH and I am a baby-stalker too!!

sarahloumadam · 10/10/2007 21:07

Hi all haven't had a chance to sign on for a while so have had to spend a while catching up with the chat (do you realise that the word "wispa" occurs around 214568 times? Greedy girls! I haven't seen them yet, will have to find a supplier)

FCH - I had a chunky fringe cut a couple of weeks ago and loads off the length and I was really unsure to begin with but have had loads of compliments and I bet you look fab but just different to how you are used to seeing yourself.

I hold my hands up to baby-stalking, have held a few new-borns recently and it takes all my self-control not to sniff them! V.odd as I was worried that I wasn't a "baby person" before I got pregnant. Mother nature must be doing her thing.

Not long left at work now! Last two weeks have been really stressful due to a colleague going off on long-term sick.

I have definately started to waddle, especially when the LO is bouncing his head on my fanjo or I am having a braxton thingy. Still keep forgetting I have a bump and bending down to get things and then feeling sick as stomach is forced into throat! all those of you feeling crappy.

Am going to try and stay on top of this thread because feel really out of the loop. Must try harder, must try harder...

nykate · 10/10/2007 21:10

LOL at you baby stalkers! I wish I was more like that. I'm ashamed to admit that I'm worried, and if I didn't feel like such crap I would happily stay pg longer. DH is the opposite...he can't wait to meet the new LO . Of course, he isn't currently staying at home with a 3 1/2 yr old and 20 month old, so maybe he doesn't have quite the same level of anxiety .

sarahloumadam · 10/10/2007 21:13

Well Kate apart from a desire to sniff babies I am still really nervous about meeting mine for the first time - all seems a bit surreal at the moment. And as you already have two LOs I can imagine that it must seem easier to have them hitching a ride for a while longer! Sorry you feeling rubbish tho.

littleoldme · 10/10/2007 21:23

Hi ladies. Just wanted to check in and say hi. I finished work today. Yay. I'm only 33 weeks and was feeling it might be a bit early. Now I'm pleased. Teaching isn't really the sort of job you can do sitting down or take it easy.

Choc - have you tried some lactulose?

Choudru - Once Eid is out the way e-mail me and we can do cake. Enjoy the celebrating.

That blummin Bringing Up Baby Woman needs a great big smack in the face. I'm wondering how long it will be before she joins the ranks of she who must not be named on mn. Not long if I say things like that I s'pose.

FCH - Gutted the cut didn't work out for you.

RGPargy · 10/10/2007 22:32

Evening everyone!

Blarrrrdy hell, i knew i should have caught up earlier today when i had the chance, but i thought i'd save it for tonight instead.

Silk - DP and I keep grinning at little baby clothes. Do you do the holding a babygrow on your tummy thing too?

Loopy - glad you have got DD1 trained, even if you did have to get up for her, bless.

FCH - Sorry about your (apparently) naff hair do. I'm sure it's absolutely fine really! i so need mine cut again but will have to wait til pay day coz i need it coloured too. I really really would love to grow my hair long enough to have my braids back again, but DP says he loves my hair really short, although braids would be sooooo easy to care for! Perhaps while i'm on mat leave i should actually get them done again with some really nice funky colours too. Sounds like a plan, stan!! Blimey, your BPIAB arrived in 2 days?! That's really good service!

Lizzie - you poor thing, you must be feeling the work strain much more than me - i'm only 33+1 but will be 34 when i give up work. I wonder if i have put off going to antenatal classes because of the inevitable birth videos that they show?? head in the sand and all that?!!

Geek - seriously, make the most of being able to even get on the computer when you fancy it! When i go on mat leave i will be spending my day mostly on the sofa watching Jezza and Trisha, going on the PC or the laptop (if i can be bothered to fix the wireless internet) and then an hour before DP is due home, i will be making the place look like i've spent the day tidying up and cleaning etc.

Choc - hope your LO is not breech, although as Loopy said there is still time for turning. Fingers crossed, eh? At least you get to see baby again on the scan!

Cape - lol @ dinner plate! It wasn't REALLY that big was it?? I quite like burying my head in the sand about these things.....

Sparkly - sorry the jaundice is back. Hope Callum gets over it really quickly. I'm sure the last thing you want is him back in hospital!

LK - Bringing up Baby is on Tuesday nights on Channel 4. Think it's on at 9pm but it's also on an hour later on C4+1 in case you miss it.

Sarah - I hate the bouncing on the fanjo thing. It's quite painful isn't it! I also sometimes forget about belly being in the way. I cant even take my socks off standing up without it hurting my bump!! Must admit that when LO is here, i'm soooo looking forward to being able to bend over double without any pain! Sorry you're feeling out of the loop. I think half the time the only reason the thread goes so fast is because i sit on it all day while i'm bored at work and pester people into posting.

LOM - at you finishing work. Make sure you chill out and enjoy the time off.

Right, i'd better phone DS again and find out where the bloody hell he is coz i wanna go to bed!!

RGPargy · 10/10/2007 22:56

DS came in the door just as i was ringing him. Phew!
