Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LK2boyzma · 02/10/2007 23:54

hello all
I'm due on the 23rd of Nov, with 2nd DS (if technology is anything to go by) Scared s**tless of labour! Has anyone ever had any joy in using homeopathy pain relief?

I have 13 days to go be4 my A/L followed by Mat LV, CANT WAIT

RGPargy · 03/10/2007 00:16

Loopy - Yeah when DS was little i bought a Britax car seat because IMO they are number 1 in car seat manufacturing. I never knew that did pushchairs/prams til we looked in Toys R Us a couple of months ago!

Berry - I've been watching Bringing Up Baby too. Looks like so far the sling wearers have had the quietest time. I decided the other day that i'm deffo going to be wearing a sling. It just seems to make life alot easier from my recollections of trying to make a drink/have a wee etc whilst holding a baby - very difficult!

JARM - just goes to show that everyone will measure you differently and you carry each baby differently too! I must admit i do try and take the fundal height measurement with a bit of a pinch of salt really.

Pixie - i'm sure it's just normal stretching etc pains. Wish i could bend over normally too!!

NYKate - glad your epidural experience went well. I cant really comment as i've not had one but it just scares the frig outta me!!

Anna - i think my LO is in the same position - side on - because she has moved sides and now one side of my tummy is empty and the other is hard. i cant feel her individual limbs i dont think, which is a shame, but i know the lump i'm feeling is deffo her.

They've also quite recently made the gas illegal in raves here too. Shame!

Sparkly - Fantastic news re Callum's feed!! I really hope he comes home soon!

LK2boyzma - Hello and welcome to the thread!

AnnainNZ · 03/10/2007 01:39

RG - is your LO still breech? I was told one week mine was, so was just starting to read up about it - then when I went for my scan a week later was told she is now head down adn sideways on. When I say I feel her limbs etc, well I can't really feel individual hands and feet etc but there's a hard bit which is definitley the head and then other hard bits that I assume are the limbs. One side of my bump definitely feels quite light and "empty" and all the weight is on the other side

ChocolateHobnob · 03/10/2007 07:01

Hi all

NYKate, thanks for your positive write-up of your epidural. My NCT classes have tended to portray the epidural as the option you use if you have a low pain threshold and by implication are a bit weak. I have no idea how I'll react to the pain but I don't want to have to see an epidural as a cowardly option. Thanks very much for telling us your experience.

JARM - re fundal height, 2 weeks ago I was measured twice on the same day, once by community midwife and once by midwife in hospital. Their measurements were 2 cm apart, and my bump couldnt have grown 2 cm in 2 hours!

Re car seats, we had to try a few before we found one that fitted safely in our car! We went to John Lewis and they were great at taking car seats in and out and showing how they fit/didn't fit for us.

Our pramette came yesterday - it's so lovely!!! We put it up in pram mode and I hung the matching changing bag over the handles and pushed it about a bit (sad I know). The fold-up isnt as easy as it looked in the shop, but I'll get the hang of it.

Berry, RG, it does indeed look like the sling wearers are having the easiest time (though not sure about frying food with a lo in a sling in front of you as they did last week...).

Anna, how's your bedrest going?

Welcome, LK2boyzma. I'm scared of labour too!

36 weeks today - not so long to go! V exciting.

AnnainNZ · 03/10/2007 07:09

Bedrest not going too badly. It varies from day to day tbh, yesterday I was getting really annoyed and fed up about everything, today I've felt better again. Thank goodness for the internet, helps the hours go by. I have been sleeping quite a lot too!

It's quite frustrating having to ask DH to do everything, when I want to do things myself. I know it's only for a few weeks though. And I'm sure lots of 8 mth pg women would just love to be told to do nothing for the final month.

RGPargy · 03/10/2007 11:32

Morning all!

I've just got back from my MW appointment. Apparently she couldn't feel a head at the top of my bump anymore but because of rigid scar tissue on my lower abdomen, she couldn't feel a head down there either (!!). She's arranged for me to have a scan at 37 weeks to check presentation. I asked her if, considering everything has been normal throughout this pg, i could go ahead and order my pool now but she said to wait til 36 weeks, just in case. Not sure what to do really. I'd hate for the pool to be on order when i go into labour! Still, if she's not feeling a head then that must mean that LO is no longer breech, which is a relief. I'm a bit gutted that i didn't feel her turn tho. My tummy moving like the "Alien" films would be have been some sight to behold, i'm sure!! I also asked her about the change in movements and she said that as long as i was still getting at least 10 movements a day, it didn't matter that the movements had changed from kicks to squirms and that it was only to be expected with the lack of room now. Phew. Relief all round i think.

Choc - glad you are happy with your pram. I'm sure you're not the only one to have pushed it up and down in a practice run! I've even got mine out into the garden and back indoors again. Even DP and DS have had a little push, bless them!! I'm of you being 36 weeks already - i've only just turned 32 weeks!

Anna - make the most of your bed rest! i'm soooo tired all the time now and i've got 8 weeks to go! Have you got a playstation or something that could keep you amused?

LizzieO · 03/10/2007 11:39

mornin me lovelies

i'm 35 weeks today so not long oooh errr

SPK - glad to hear Callum is going from strength, your obviously a real pro

watched a bit of Bringing Up Baby last night
felt really sorry for the twin babies - the mentor seems like a right tw*t, poor little baby was feeding and looking at his mum, and mentor was like "no don't give the baby any eye contact at all, you have to let baby know whose in charge IMWTF !!!!!

i def up for a sling

Iris66 - If you could you post the dimensions of the sling when you get a chance that would be fabby - what material did you use to make yours

LK2boyzma - welcome and good luck, ps why are you so scared of childbirth, did you have a bad exp with your DS ?

RGPargy · 03/10/2007 11:45

Hi Lizzie. I agree re the Bringing Up Baby thing. She's a complete twat, that woman. She makes me want to punch her in the trousers!!!!

sparklygothkat · 03/10/2007 11:54

Hi all back again, Callum had another feed today, but I can't go back tonight as I am going out, tickets booked before I delivered lol. Anyway doctor wants to get copy of the kids MRI reports as he thinks that their Cerebral Palsy could be link to the Protein S deficity. Callum's brain ultrasound looks normal though

RGPargy · 03/10/2007 11:56

Excellent stuff Sparkly. Had a fab time tonight - you deffo deserve a good night out!

fiona76 · 03/10/2007 12:53

Hi all!
I went to my first aquanatal class this morning and absolutely loved it. I'm quite pooped but now 34 weeks so it was lovely being weightless. They also do post natal classes where you bring the baby in their car seat and they sleep poolside so will defo be up for that.

GP told me the baby was oblique yesterday so I think them lying sideways is normal?? LOs head is on the right and definatley a bigger bulge on that side. Hope it goes head down soon ready for birth.

sparklygothkat · 03/10/2007 13:07

I WANT MY BUMP BACK!!!! Its strange having Callum out of my womb, I want him back inside!!

ill swap sparkly! I dont do pregnancy very well, and am at the fact Callum is here. I know he is tiny and still in hospital, but you are almost back to feeling human again!!

Hope Callum is ok today, and enjoy tonight - you deserve a break!!!

tonysmum · 03/10/2007 13:12

Anna, thanks very much for the link on baby positioning. My placenta is posterior so I think the back to back position is due to too much slouching on the sofa and putting my feet up in front of the tv . 35 weeks today so there is time to start improving my posture!

sparklygothkat · 03/10/2007 13:13

BUt if I had my bump back, he would be ok, and with me, not in hospital. I hate leaving him

sparklygothkat · 03/10/2007 13:21

anyway, do you think I will get in my corset dress?? Tummy is a bit flabby still, but am back in my jeans, or will I look silly??

JARM · 03/10/2007 13:22

I bet you will! You are a skinny rake anyway!!!

Back in jeans -

Sparkly - sorry, i meant HAVE a good night! I reckon you will fit back into 99% of your clothes too. Gggrr at you being back in jeans!

Loopy - We're going to go for a BPIAB. They're only about £60 and to hire a heated pool worked out around between £200-£300. i think i would have preferred the heated pool (natch) but it's soooooo expensive. Unless of course i win the lottery.......

choudru · 03/10/2007 14:08

Afternoon ladies,

Managed to drag myself out this morning to NCT coffee morning. Was lovely as always - the lady who hosted it showed me the reusable nappies she uses and showed me how to use them. Very useful indeed.

DS had a great time so not feeling so guilty about having kept him indoors yesterday

Went to BFing class last night. It was soooo informative. I just keep thinking how different my experience with DS would have been if I knew then what I know now. I didn't even know what engorgement was until it happened to me. Remember being sat in the bathroom sobbing my eyes out in the middle of the night while poor DH tried to help me massage out the lumps with a hot flannel.

About all of you worried about measurements - I have been told I am small for dates by mdiwife but haven't really given it a second thought because have been measured by consultant and MW in hospital since then who said I was fine. I am small though - I think it is because I gave birth at 7 months last time so my muscles haven't been stretched this far before. So am probably about right for a first time pregnancy I guess. Also the fact that running after DS means less time to snack!

So I wouldn't worry - there seems to be a massive variation in sizes of bumps - who knows how much of it is baby/fat/fluid?

We'll all be wearing girdles afterwards anyway so who cares?!

nykate - thanks for adding that about epidurals. I wouldn't want anyone to decide they are 'bad' and then feel upset if they have to have one. I had one for DS because of the c-section and it was the least of my worries quite frankly.

I would still like to avoid if possible this time, but if I have one in the end then so be it.

Off for a nap.

afternoon all
Had terrible night last night up feeling sick and couldn't sleep so been off work today and had bed all to myself and it was bliss! The LO has been super-active and I think he is now lying sideways (transverse?) so thanks for the tips on getting him shifted. Can't wait to go swimming when I am on mat leave.

Can't watch that Bringing up the Baby - makes me all hormonal and hot and bothered . I feel really sorry for the people taking part in the Truby King experiment - I know they volunteered for the prog but I bet they really regret it now and they will never get those first few weeks back.

Interested in some of your comments about pain relief. My MW mentioned another injection they can give you (begins with m?) and apparently it doesn't cross the placental barrier and doesn't make you feel as sleepy as pethedine. My mum had a bad expereience with pethedine - either they gave her too much or she had a bad reaction, she was pretty much out of it for a day afterwards! I'm sure it works well for some people but I will be avoiding it because I have bad associations with it and think it would freak me out. Ha! Thats what I say now , first baby so I really have no idea what kind of pain to expect and just starting to feel jittery about it all.

Went to one and only birth-prep class offered to us the other night. It was interesting but lots of the couples were very sniffy about MLU and water-births so don't think I have missed out on any bonding by only having one class!

Choc - am re the pram, bought it ages ago will have to go and pick it up so i can get "in role" .

RG - glad your LO ok, sounds like she is getting ready!

Sparkly - nights out . Going to see anything good? I think ikwym tho re missing Callum, bet you can't wait to get him home.

Welcome LK2boysma and anyone else I may have missed.

sarahloumadam · 03/10/2007 16:45

Oh no! Just found out that we can't move in to our new house until a week before the due date (meant to be a month before which was pushing it!) So because they didn't even keep us informed, we just rang to see how things were going!!!!!!!
