Choudru - glad you got yourself out this morning. I sometimes think that if you get too much into the habit of staying in you can become a social recluse, IYSWIM. Well, i think that's the case with me anyway. Hope you had a nice nap. i've got the day off today and have also had a snooze on the sofa. Lush!

Incidentally, how DO you sooth engorgement? I remember having it with DS but i did nothing about it as i was just told "that's the way it is".

Sarah - i cant wait to go swimming too. I need to find a swimsuit that fits first tho! I might have to trawl through Google to try and find one. It's a shame the ladies in your class weren't more open minded. It's infuriating isn't it. How re your house!! If your LO comes early, you'll be moving house AND looking after a newborn. Certainly NOT ideal at all! You have my sympathies!

aikigypsy · 03/10/2007 17:11

Good afternoon, everyone.

I've been a bit tired the last couple of days, because one night I stayed up until 2am reading a book I started last summer. It was nice, but had to get up for work the next morning. Even though it's nothing work, and the hours aren't at all long, it still seems to take all day. I don't know how anyone can work full-time at this stage of pregnancy.

I went to yoga again last night, which was pretty relaxing compared to last time, even with my tender finger (which is beginning to heal up all right). I think all the breathing exercises will really help when it comes to labour.

Sarah -- What a hassle! I know it's normal for these things (anything to do with construction, or real estate deals) to take longer than expected, but in this case I think they should make it up to you in some way. I haven't finished unpacking from my move a month ago, but at least I'm here, where I'll be when the LO decides to come on out.

RGP -- yesterday I was reading something on the LaLeche League website about engorgement. They have a lot of resources there. I think it said that cold packs and compression/massage help with engorgement, but that heat doesn't really make any difference. I'm hoping it won't be too bad!

sarahloumadam · 03/10/2007 17:29

Thanks Aiki and RG - I am normally so laid-back and deal with setbacks like this really well but just want to blub my eyes out! Anyway, the baby will come when he is ready and he only needs me and DH and somewhere warm to sleep so I'm sure it will all work out in the end.

Meant to say Aiki - ouch!!!!!! Glad your finger is healing.

RG I got a tankini from Topshop fairly early on in my pregnancy but not sure it will fit anymore (Topshop sizes being what they are - even in maternity range).

thelady · 03/10/2007 17:30

Swimsuits: at last, something I can provide info on!

Have bought a tankini from Additions Direct (£11) and a crossover back all-in-one suit from Next for less than £20. Think the tankini will become a little indecent towards the end (already a small gap at belly) but the Next one is less pretty. Bear in mind I'm normally a 16 - 18, so YMMV.

Jossiejump · 03/10/2007 17:53

sarahloumadam-the injection you were thinking of is meptid-I had this with DS1 & 2, it was good first time, not so good second time. Not all maternity units keep it, I had to get mine on prescripion from my doctors and keep it in the fridge!

sarahloumadam · 03/10/2007 18:01

Thanks Jossie I will ask about it when I go for my antenatal check-up - can't remember them mentioning it when we went to look around so that makes sense.

Mmmm pancakes....

Not really feeling that laidback loopy but pretending and trying to stay calm for sake of DH and LO. However, going to call and speak to someone else at the site tomorrow to get more details and possibly make an official complaint re not being kept informed. When DH was and said it was a week before the birth the stupid woman said "oh you are leaving it a bit tight aren't you!" .

Don't have pancakes but DH has brought home new Galaxy cookie crumble bar !

Im at my wits end. My 3 year old DD has started to wet the bed despite being dry at night for months. she has started nursery school but is very happy there and nothing else has changed. I ve started to lift her as i go to bed around half ten but she still as an accident. not every night. Any advice from anyone? baby due in 4 weeks and dont need this as well as new born in the house!!!

LK2boyzma · 03/10/2007 20:51

Hi all, I envy all those who have been chatting for a while because I couldn't as I was stark at work! Got home and started cooking coz DH cooked yesterday!
BUT in 2kws time, will be chatting form dusk to dawn

iris66 · 03/10/2007 21:04

Blimey what a catch up!!!!

Saralou - I'm with you on the hormotional aspect of watching Bringing up Baby (I caught up this afternoon as we'd recorded it). I can't say anymore for fear of never stopping ranting
Can you do anything to bring forward your move? what a fiasco - I'd be, well,.... certainly not as laid back as you!! but if there's nothing you can do then I suppose you've just got to ride it haven't you . LO will be compliant I'm sure . I have a friend who moved house very close to her dues date and claimed she didn't allow herself to think of LO coming until she'd got the kitchen sorted. Once she felt ready and organised enough she literally went straight into labour - ya never know

SparklyGothKat - Callum is doing brilliantly isn't he! Sounds like he'll be home before you know it . And what a turn up on the protein deficiency. Can they do anything about it? Hope you have a wonderful night out tonight BTW - you deserve it!

Choudru - I came so close to ordering "post natal foundation garment" today but will wait until I know my actual weight next wed. I'm getting quite excited at the prospect of being "Gwyneth" slim after childbirth

LizzieO - I didn't make a sling but have a Calin Bleu one which is made of a cheesecloth type of material (stretchy/crinkly cotton) it's 75cm wide and 5m long (but is tapered at each end so one side is 4.5m)

LK2boyzma - welcome to the thread - I use homeopathy a lot and have a childbirth pack from Helios which I used last labour (and will this)but it doesn't contain anything to relieve pain (to my knowledge). Aconite is widely used to help limit bruising and encourage healing and there are remedies to help you deal with the emotional aspects of labour more effectively (ie dealing with fear or anxiety) If you come across anything homeopathic that reduces labour pain please let me know! (although

thelady · 03/10/2007 21:08

swollen: could it be that she's tired out and not waking when she needs to pee? My baby brother had long-term problems with wetting at night, and eventually they worked out that he was just too tired to wake himself up a lot of the time.

iris66 · 03/10/2007 21:12

swollen - what a PITA. Children can be very sensitive though can't they (DD used to projectile vomit if I was going out - I got so embarassed calling the Dr out thinking it was appendicitis ). Do you think it's because the big day's looming?

Did you know..... (from Iris' book of random facts figures and useless information...) that chestnut mushrooms have got folic acid in them! (noticed a big sticker saying so on the carton tonight) just thought I'd share

ChocolateHobnob · 03/10/2007 21:19

Hi all

You've all been so chatty today!

RG - time flies honest - it doesn't seem long since I was at your stage. Bet the next few weeks are slower for me though.

Fiona, the aquanatal class sounds lovely. I so should make the effort to go to one. I just can't fit it in with work - I'm v tired after work.

Aiki, glad your finger is healing.

Anna, I could do with a day in bed. I'm considering just spending Friday there! Naughty I know.

Sparkly, have a good night!

All the comments on Bringing up Baby - I agree! That mentor is mad and those parents will surely regret missing out on bonding time.

I've been to see the mw today and lo is still partially engaged and was dancing around as she tried to hear the hb (kicking her and squirming and all). Oddly she kept referring to the baby as 'she' (we dont know the sex). What would make her do that?! Eventually I said something and she said oh sorry, he or she. Weird!

Right, I'm shattered now - tiring day at work and my calves are aching now (anyone know what that is?) and I need my bed. Wish I could sleep once in it. Have a good night all.

LK2boyzma · 03/10/2007 21:30

Gosh it takes 4ever to catch,

chocolate- like me you, u have worries about labour, hope you picked up on this injection, mentioned by someone, MEPTID. Am definately going to speak to my MW about it!

LizzieO- Hi, I am just not sure how I would cope with it all, I had an epidural with DS, but I feel its not something that I would like to use again as it restricted my movement, And I occassionally have backaches, which can be a side effect of an epidural.Am worried about making the backaches worse if I use it again!

silkcushion · 03/10/2007 22:03

Hello - have been reading thread everyday but haven't had the energy to post. Bp is still high - been back and forth to mw and hospital day assessment unit. Have been well and truly told to get some rest and slow down. Said to mw yesterday that I had to drive to a meeting today (3hr round trip) and she said if you go then you may end up in hospital on full bed rest and we might insist on inducing you at 36 weeks (that's next week!). So I caved in and promised I'd stay at home. Then she smiled and said of course that would be worse case scenario IF you developed pre eclampsia and I don't think you will.

They've told me the LO's irregular heartbeat is not something to worry about - apparently quite common in utero and corrects itself at birth. All seem adamant that the best way to check health of baby is by fetal movements. And she's still squirming lots.

My Braxton Hicks are now starting to feel a bit uncomfortable is that normal? And Lo engaged at 34 weeks - does that mean she might come early?

Sorry for being such a thickie and not knowing anything.

RGPargy · 03/10/2007 22:49

Evening all

Aiki - i'm starting yoga again when i finish work on 17th Oct. I'm quite looking forward to it. I did start to go when i was really early pg (16 weeks) but the instructor told me that she repeats the classes every 4 weeks so i didn't think there was any point in going so soon really. Plus everyone else was hugely pg, except for me! I felt out of place! Work let me go half an hour earlier tho to make the class on time and although i've not been in months, i still go early on a Thursday just so i can get an earlier train and be home 30 mins earlier. Naughty i know, but hey, so sue me!

Sarah and thelady - not sure anything from TopShop or Next would fit me atm. I was a size 22 before getting pg and i dread to think what size i am now! I'll just probably get something from Evans - that's what i've done with my tops. Just got a size bigger and they've been more than adequate so far.

Loopy - that's a good idea about the BPIAB. I might contact NCT and order it from the NCT mag, seeing as they're child friendly etc. I'm hoping she's turned already tho, which would account for the sudden increase in pressure on my diaphragm lately.

Swollen - i wonder if your DD is anxious about the baby coming, seeing as it's so close etc. She might be fretting about not being the baby of the family any more or something. Perhaps if you start a thread in the Behaviour/development section someone a bit more in the know might be able to help you? Good luck!

LK - My work situation has been the complete opposite. I sit on here all day coz i have zero work. As much as i love MN, i would rather be at home pottering around and coming on here now and then rather than sitting and staring at the screen and willing someone to post something! See you in two weeks, eh? I finish work then too. Try not to worry too much about labour either. At the mo, i'm of the opinion that alot of it is all a state of mind about going through the pain threshold and getting into "the zone". I'm pretty good now at "zoning out" so i'm confident that i'll do this labour on just gas and air and a pool. My first labour however did put the willies up me (for want of a better phrase!!!) and i have been put off having more kids, not just because of a clinical labour (i.e. flat on your back in a hospital room) but because of the fear i have of being a single parent again - been there, done that. Anyway, sorry, i'm rambling. Just try not to worry too much about it but ask lots of questions of your MW for reassurance about the best course of action for YOU and your particular labour.

Iris - I'm also looking forward to being Gwyneth-slim after the birth with my bodyshaping girdle. I'm going to put an order in within the next couple of weeks.

Choc - when i was on mat leave with DS, my sister was also pg too so we both used to meet up regularly and "do lunch". I only got 3 weeks of mat leave tho as DS came early so i felt a bit deprived lol

Re the achey calves, try eating more potassium, i.e. a banana before bed or summat as they contain lots of potassium.

Silk - I hope you didn't go to the meeting in the end?!! Glad LO is squirming around lots. Being engaged at 34 weeks doesn't mean she will come early. Apparently they can engage and dis-engage a couple of times before D-Day. As for being a thickie, dont be silly! If you've not been told you wont know things will you?! I'm on DC number 2 and didn't know HALF of what i know now, thanx to MN!

AnnainNZ · 03/10/2007 23:03

Silk - sorry to hear your bp still high - hopefully you don't have any other signs of pre-eclampsia at mo. Having to keep going in and out of hospital day unit sounds pretty stressful - that in itself would prob raise my bp! Glad I have avoided it so far. I've been listening to a hypnobirthing CD every day to try to keep me relaxed and the bp down. Not hte sort of thing I'm usually into and I don't know if it does any good but I do feel v relaxed afterwards and I figure it can't do any harm.

ChocolateHobnob · 04/10/2007 06:54

Hi all

Silk, sorry about your bp. I've been to the day assessment unit once for mine, and it was actually v nice - reclining chairs and all! Where are you based? I have to walk to the midwife when I go and it's about 15 mins. When I get there my bp is sometimes up. After 5 mins it's back normal again. I think haring about is a surefire way of ending up with bp problems. Having said that, I'm still haring about!

RG, your descriptions of work make me laugh - you could write a book. Being a single parent must be v v hard but you're past that now, so you can feel stronger this time. Thanks too for your account of labour. I can't quite get my head round what to expect, since I'vce lived a painfree existence really to date, apart from nightmarish teeth problems in my life, so I can only compare labour to dentistry and I'm sure they're not very similar... apart from the 3 hours I spent in the dental chair last year being mauled about...

Iris, the Calin Bleu sling looks lovely!

My lo has hiccups AGAIN this morning. It seems to get them all the time now! It's funny.

Have a good day all you other workers out there!! and the rest of you - enjoy the free time!

capecodder · 04/10/2007 08:01

Just found this thread and wish I had known about it all along. This will be my first and this site has been an amazing resource for me.

Capecodder- due 23rd NOV, LITTLE GIRL!

FCH · 04/10/2007 09:24

Oooh, hello CapeCodder - yet another November Mummy! I am sure RG will be along to add you to the list (she does seem to know how all these things work!)...

Silk - sorry to hear about your blood pressure, but it is always best to listen to your body if it is giving you "slow down" signals. I am finding it really frustrating not being quite at my normal level of efficiency or energy, but at least the end is in sight and hopefully at some point in the next year I will be feeling back to normal.

In exciting news: TODAY IS MY LAST FULL WORKING DAY!! I am off home after lunch tomorrow... I just cannot wait. When I first decided to finish at 36 weeks (today - hooray) it seemed like leaving myself loads of time, but the last week or two has been very tiring and I just can't wait to get home and relax for a bit!

By the way - apart from the fact that clearly everyone involved in that "Bringing Up Baby" programme was bonkers (it just does not seem reasonable to me to be so militant about the "right" way to do something so individual about bonding with your baby - but perhaps that is just me...) - was anyone else startled how RUDE the two blonde mentor women were? I was shocked, especially the one who was bullying her clients and their families. Also - what was all the stuff about "inflicting" breastfeeding on other people in public - frankly given the choice I would far rather ban beered up, sweatty and overweight blokes striding around shirtless and semi-nude in the summer (perhaps the south coast is particularly bad for this) than get upset about a few women discretely feeding their babies. FFS

Loads to do just a quickie-

Silk - sorry to hear the BP is being a pain

Sarah - House moving is PITA at the best of times. I don't envy you but I always think that these thing have a way of sorting themselves out.

FCH - Last day eh. Think about how nice it will be to wake up in the morning and not have to go to work . mmmmmmm

A little something to add to the car seat debate. I found this advice from ROSPA really helpful.

Right off to do battle with my morals; is it ok to have cheese cake for breakfast

jetgirl · 04/10/2007 09:54

Hooray - I'm at home alone. DD is at nursery, DH is at work and in-laws have gone home. it's so nice to have some peace and quiet!

In-laws managed to drive me insane by thinking I was incapable of carrying anything when we went into town yesterday. This ranged from putting the pushchair into the car boot (which I do on a regular basis alone) to carrying a shopping bag which contained 2 soft toys and 2 tree decorations! At dinner I went to wash up the soup bowls so we would have enough bowls for pudding and was told to leave it, when I pointed out that no bowls meant no pudding they let me get on with it! And the most pathetic thing that annoys me (and you will think I am totally unreasonable here) is that they always completely fill the kettle when making a drink, for some reason this makes me really . I think pregnancy hormones are going into overdrive!

On the positive side had a mw appt yesterday. Was a bit disappointed that it wasn't my named mw, however the mw I saw was very positive about my chances of a natural birth as opposed to a section, and encouraged me to go for the waterbirth, which is what I really want anyway, so I left feeling really positive (although she said she couldn't sort my next growth scan, my named mw would have to do it). And baby is now cephalic not breech - hooray!!!

Saw my friend and her 11 day old baby on Tuesday. My friend looks amazing, back into her ordinary clothes already, and this is her 3rd, so there's hope that I won't turn into a blob after this one! Her baby is also gorgeous and I had a lovely cuddle.

Silk - DD engaged at about 32 weeks and came at about 42 weeks so don't worry about your LO arriving early.

Welcome Capecodder - are you on mat leave? Things on here have become very busy in the last few weeks as we're all approaching the big day!

Sparkly - hope you enjoyed yourself last night, you deserve a good night out . How's Callum doing?

Right - off to the shops to buy Christmas cards. One less thing to have to worry about come November!
