@NakeliP I have no issues or medical concerns, I’m not even fed up of being pregnant yet! But I do feel assured that baby would be fine coming at 37 weeks + because that’s what the nhs deem to be full term and most babies won’t need specialist treatment coming at 37 weeks. That said, I personally am not doing anything to encourage them to come sooner... I think he will come when he’s ready! I’ve also still got quite a lot on my to do list!! I do feel my body is gearing up for labour but I think it’s weeks rather than days away.
If I get near to 41 weeks I will definitely be trying all the natural induction methods... sex, nipple stimulation. Would accept a sweep. Only because I would rather try and encourage it that way before thinking about the synthetic hormone induction. Just my personal choice. Overall I am confident that baby will come when he is ready! I know it’s a bit strange but I’m ok with not knowing when, with not really being in control. My DH on the other hand can not handle the unknown and is already having wobbles!
@Kez437 I have read that dilation can go both ways, if your oxytocin drops (they do call it the shy hormone) due to feeling panicked, adrenaline or just the strangeness of environment going to hospital, or the stress of the journey going in, your body can slow down labour and you can become less dilated... apparently it’s a really common thing. It’s the body’s way of trying to make sure you feel safe before allowing your baby to be born (the book I read was talking about when women would be in a jungle hiding in the trees labouring, if they saw a Jaguar approaching for example they would need to run so the body has a response to fear where it can halt progression of labour or even reverse it). I found that really interesting because in hindsight I’m now sure that’s what happened when my dd was born. I got to triage to be told 1cm dilated which I was pretty much sure could not be true. An examination can only tell a medical professional how dilated you are at that precise moment! Just before that you could have been 4cm, who knows!
Anyway, regardless, don’t feel silly or like you’ve got everyone’s hopes up for nothing. They will survive and they will get to meet your baby eventually! This bit (in my opinion) is all about YOU, and the most helpful thing you can do for yourself is to relax and make yourself feel good. If it was labour starting, getting oxytocin flowing will only help. If it wasn’t, at least you’ll feel a bit better about the whole thing!
@Goldenmother I know the feeling isn’t pleasant but as others have said thats probably your baby’s head in your pelvis, all engaged and ready! All good stuff!
