No luck with expressing colostrum for me even after baby is here Sad

@mj2196 So sorry to hear that. Stay positive. We will be thinking of you xx

@LillianFullStop oh gosh, really. I thought everyone just passed colostrum after birth. How did you feed baby at the hospital?
I have been worried about this. I haven't packed formula for the hospital, but I do have some.

LillianFullStop · 03/06/2020 17:09

Sorry to hear about that @Mj2196 - that sounds so stressful. It's been hard being away from DD and DH I'm missing them both so much.

Hopefully scan goes well tomorrow and they'll let you home again until things run it's own course.

LillianFullStop · 03/06/2020 17:13

I'm sure you will be fine @Missgemini - it's because my DS has a cleft lip and palate and can't form a latch so he can't stimulate the breasts for me I have to try to hand stimulate myself but it's not as effective! Also apparently it takes longer with caesarean sections also.

But also I've been pretty poor about remembering to hand stimulate every 3 hours what with having to feed DS and getting rest as well.

@LillianFullStop Oh I see. So many unknowns in this baby game. The most stressful experience of my life haha!
Why are they still keeping you in hospital? Does the cleft operation happen soon after birth? Or is it more to do with feeding?

Thinking of you @Mj2196

@LillianFullStop can you see if the hospital can let you use a pump? I hand expressed in hospital for tube feeding but after a day or so they also gave me access to a very good Medela pump which was way more efficient! They gave me the, erm, parts for my personal use to hook up to a machine so they were disposed of after each user. I used to sit next to her cot whilst doing it in the hope my body knew she was close by, seemed to work!

Heeeyyy,

I feel like I’m coming in so late to the party but I’m getting seriously impatient right about now 😭due on Monday, 8th June.

Had period like pains today but they went away pretty quickly. Cannot wait for the real deal now.

@Mj2196 sorry to hear about that worry - hope all is ok.

@LillianFullStop I'm surprised they won't let you pump - last baby I started pumping in the same week as giving birth as baby couldn't latch

@Magpiefeather I have had a little bit of leaking since second trimester so thought it would work for me. The instructions I was given were to start a few cm back from nipple but I had to squeeze quite close to the areola 5-10 times to get anything flowing. Thumb on top and fingers underneath in a C shape. 1ml took me two sessions using both breasts!

I've had more pain and more bowel issues. I've just spoken to a midwife. She thinks I'm labouring in my back due to the position of the baby (back to back probably) and the bowel thing is just my body's way of clearing it. She said contractions are trying to get into a pattern and once they are about 3 in 10 mins and are shorter than they are now to phone back. I'm in the latent stage so could be a while I suppose. I need to get on my ball to try and get baby to turn back to where it should be. Could be a long few days!

I just had my sweep - a LOT more painful than I was expecting although at least over very quickly. My bishops score was 0 (!) so think that's why it hurt so much. Midwife managed to do it still and touched baby's head which is very low. Just depressing to know nothing going on in the cervix - I had hoped I was at least some of the way there!

Anyway the midwife suggested relaxing bath with essential oils and a daily massage to try and induce labour, plus colostrum harvesting. She said I needed to relax as much as possible or baby wouldn't be going anywhere anytime soon!

Thanks for the new thread! Can't believe the other one filled up so fast!!

@Girlinajumpsuit All those suggestions from your midwife sound lovely, and hopefully they'll get things going!

@APD1981 Hope your pain isn't too bad. At least you know things are definitely happening and your little one will be with you soon.

@Mj2196 glad you're feeling more relaxed now you're on the ward being monitored. Sounds like that's the safest place for you to be.

@LillianFullStop hope your recovery is going ok. So happy for you that your little one is here.

@APD1981 I've had similar re: bowels and cramps/back pain and it getting pretty intense and painful then easing off once I've been. I had this exact thing the other day in fact. I was stood at the bottom of the stairs and couldn't move because it was so intense, went to the bathroom and it all disappeared. I just keep telling myself that it's all a step in the right direction. It's very frustrating though.

Saying that, really trying not to get my hopes up/get too disappointed because I've had a day of hicks, cramps and back ache on and off with baby pushing down and having a good wiggle. I was trying to ignore as best as I could but I realised about 6pm that they were happening a lot more frequently than they have been so far - generally about 10 mins apart for the last week or so. I got down to 3 minutes and most were pretty strong. Have eased slightly now though of course and no doubt they will stop completely when I go to bed, but I also remember having a series of really strong ones last hours then ease off only for my waters to go about 2 hours later with my 2nd.

@LillianFullStop good luck with the expressing. I still have a photo on my phone of a syringe with a grand total of 0.2ml that I got on day 3! My milk came in pretty quickly after that, and, from memory, didn't start using an actual breast pump until then. It's hard fitting it all in, especially when everyone's on at you to rest too!

@Mj2196 sorry you've had a stressful day. Hopefully you're getting settled in now and can get a plan sorted in the morning.

@APD1981 just read your most recent message. Glad your midwife was positive. I wonder if similar is happening to me then as mine has been saying baby is back to back for weeks now... Fingers crossed for us both and I'll get back on my ball asap!

@Mj2196 I hope you manage a good night's sleep and that you get some good answers and all is well in the morning.

APD1981 · 03/06/2020 20:31

@HaichMal definitely sounds like it could be the same. I've read up.on back labour now and aside from the bowel thing, I do think it's what I'm experiencing. I am really hoping they start to get more regular though as I am worried this could go on for days!

I've been trying to post on the old thread and wondering why I couldn't then I remembered you are all here! 🙈

Nice to hear things are gearing up for a few of you. I'm getting my sweep tomorrow so a bit nervous. Going to try and get some sleep now just incase it starts anything as I'll need my energy! Night night x

I’m not sure about a good nights sleep I think I’m the only one on the ward trying not to have a baby 🙈. Full of ladies being induced

@LillianFullStop I’m sorry to hear your struggling it’s the worst hope being without them isn’t it . I hope your recovery is going well &.you get feeding sorted soon

Hope those who think things are starting have some luck how exciting !

Had my sweep yesterday afternoon, not as bad as I'd thought! Midwife could touch babies head and said he's nice and low and I was about 1cm.

Used my ball on and off for the rest of the afternoon/ evening and was getting some niggly back aches pains so brought a hot water bottle to bed. Then nothing at all in the night!

Now awake and having a cuppa and something to eat in the hope I'll go back to sleep. Was feeling positive when I went to bed and expected to be awake in the night with more back pains, light contractions. So I think today's plan, like @Girlinajumpsuit said, is to try a relaxing bath, some nipple stimulation and get bouncing on my ball.

Have another sweep booked for Saturday morning 😬

Can't believe how everyone's experiences are so varied and different, no rhyme or reason to when these little ones decide it's their time to make an appearance!

I remember someone else posting something similar to this but for the last few days my bump has been really hard at the front all day everyday! I have been getting some discomfort towards the evening with low pain like period pain but disappears over night and I have noticed and sorry for TMI but more gas as well. As a FTM I have no idea what's normal and what's not and I worry about everything! I know Braxton hicks is normal and more noticeable in towards the end but I was concerned that the bump is hard all day.
I can feel baby moving around a lot and slightly out of sync to her normal routine so I know she's ok I think.
Just would like some other viewpoints or advice? I cant have a bath as I can't get in and out any more so relaxing in that way is not possible 🙁

@Busylizzie85 I might be wrong, but I was under the impression the cramps combined with the hard bump are Braxton hicks...
My bump has been going hard with cramps and then softening up. But I also notice it goes hard when baby sticks her bum out 😂

Report
Busylizzie85 · 04/06/2020 05:42

@Gigitree I thought it probably was and it does go hard if she's near the surface as such as well! I was just concerned that it seemed always hard. I think I over panic about everything, I would really rather her out now as I'm getting so uncomfortable.

@Busylizzie85 I totally know what you mean, it’s difficult not to worry. I imagine maybe little one is running out of space and therefor perhaps pushing up against your skin maybe?
