@Mj2196 both my kids were 1week and half late. Do not do sweeps!!!! They do not work! They are painful and can risk infection

peetieswie · 24/06/2020 19:57

Heart rate was fine when hospital monitored. She did a sweep - really hurt and baby not engaged at all. She was annoyed my midwife hadn't booked an induction and insisted on not letting me go more than ten days over or I'm putting the baby at risk. Felt a bit bullied into it to be honest. Induction booked for Monday. Wanted me to go back for more monitoring on Saturday. Not sure why but I guess I can ask for another sweep although as said, not sure they actually make any difference.

Cornishbumpkin · 24/06/2020 22:28

@Magpie21 and @Magpiefeather fingers crossed things spontaneously happen for you soon

@grey12 I think sweeps are quite personal opinion, they do work for some people but your body has to be ready beforehand

@peetieswie don't feel like you have to have an induction if you don't want to, there is always an alternative. Glad little ones heart rate was ok on the monitor

Zoey92 · 25/06/2020 05:10

Morning ladies.

I lost count who to reply to😂
It was pretty intense due to dilating so quick, no time for pain relief. Was pushing for about 20mins. Luckily i went through to hosp as PAU advised paracetamol and waiting a bit😂 i said no as pains were intense.
I was not fond of gas and air either if im honest.
I take my hat off to all breastfeeders i managed her 1st feed off breast but o couldn't so it again. I dont mind though
We were home by 1pm too, little one checked out perfect. I definitely over packed😂

@zoey92 Congratulations, your daughter is adorable! I expect it feels wonderful to be home with her ☺️ x

@josiejo1990 sounds like something is happening! Good that the midwife can check you out this morning. Hope your appointment goes well.

josiejo1990 · 25/06/2020 11:01

thanks @Magpie21, midwife has sent me in to the hospital to check if its waters. my gut feeling is that it's not. she said she was going to offer me a sweep but couldnt in case my waters had gone so hopefully I'll be offered one here. just waiting to be seen Smile

grey12 · 25/06/2020 11:28

@Cornishbumpkin what I was saying was, with 2 late babies, I have had countless sweeps!! Every single time the gyno said it would help and would start labour and all that jazz. News flash: IT DOESNT! If it did for you, well..., it didn't, YOU just went into labour because it was your time.

Doctors don't actually know what triggers labour. Besides some hormones (hence induction drugs...)

josiejo1990 · 25/06/2020 11:34

Not only was the test to see if it was my waters negative but they wont give me a sweep here so I've missed out on a sweep Sad

josiejo1990 · 25/06/2020 11:36

so havent even been able to find out if I'm dilated or anything Sad

Pegase · 25/06/2020 12:12

@grey12 kind of have to agree there - I had three sweeps with my first that made no difference. She came when she was good and ready! I think the intel you get as to how your cervix is doing is the only benefit really.

Magpiefeather · 25/06/2020 12:12

Oh don’t be disheartened @josiejo1990 , I know it is easier said than done though. At least you know it wasn’t your waters! Will they do it another time?

@Magpie21 yes sounds like we are in the same boat! How are you feeling today? I’m a lot more chilled and have decided to trust baby - he must know what he’s doing and he’s just not ready yet!

Also to all the ladies who have their babies - sending best cooling vibes. I feel for you, it’s horrible this heat and makes for cranky babies!!

Life hack I discovered yesterday - soak and wring out a flannel, freeze it, then drape it on the back of your neck. Ahhhhhhhhhhh

Busylizzie85 · 25/06/2020 12:50

I remember someone recommending a air con unit a while ago from amazon!? I have tried going back through the chat but I can't find it really appreciate if you could send the link again 😊

@Busylizzie85 I have a Honeywell tower cooling fan which is amazing! Got it from amazon, there's a £65 and a £80 version!

@magpiefeather pleased that you feel better today! I woke up thinking the same thing as you. Our babies will come when they are ready....probably when we least expect it!

I'm living in front of a fan today. I will have to try your flannel trick. Looks like we are in for a cooler a week next week which will be a relief for all!

@SearchingTheSkies Congratulations! Glad all
Is going well 😊

josiejo1990 · 25/06/2020 15:42

@josiejo1990 That's how I felt yesterday. Hopefully you will feel better tomorrow. Just remember we have done 40 weeks we can manage another few days x

@mrssunshinexxx Congratulations 🎀 Sounds like you had a bit of a time with it but I'm sure having your girl in your arms makes it all worthwhile. I can imagine it was very difficult dealing with that and the loss of your mother. Do you think you'll be discharged tomorrow? x

mrssunshinexxx · 25/06/2020 21:43

Thank you @Magpie21 very bittersweet but I am head over heels. Yes I'm prettt confident I've had my catheter out and had a wee baby is feeding well x
