I don't know if this will be any help snowgirl and/or tlsm but do either of you know if you might have cervical ectropion or erosion? I think it can spontaneously happen during pregnancy if you've never had it before...

I was diagnosed with this years ago when I had quite a bit of breakthrough bleeding on the pill - it's basically where the cervix is covered with the soft fragile cells that are on the neck of the womb rather than the tough ones that should be there. Because of this they get damaged easily e.g. during sex, causing light bleeding or pinkish discharge.
tlsm - thought of this when you said you had it after checking cervical position.

I got it when I was on the pill, they said the hormones could cause it - disappeared when I came off the pill. Makes sense for pregnancy hormones to cause it too, and I have read that it can get worse in pregnancy....

There is a link here and here

to make you all feel better think I'm holding the record for putting on most weight so far - 7 pounds! Going to be round very soon. DOn't understand how you can feel sick and still trough out?

EllieG · 04/09/2007 18:54

I win I've put on 4/5 pounds and due 3 weeks late than you!
I don't know much about bleeds, but other ladies have said that they are relatively common and not to be worried about too much unless prolonged or heavy or very bright red. And heartbeat good.

hpsaucey · 04/09/2007 18:57

Is the weight gain a second-time plus Mum thing?

I'll second not worrying about bleeding. Worth mentioning but probably nothing to worry about.

EllieG · 04/09/2007 18:59

Nope, first baby. Have just been eating too much as am bit greedy and CONSTANTLY hungry at moment.

snowgirl · 04/09/2007 19:27

Thanks all for helpful and supportive messages.
TLSM--bleeding was heavy and red for a short period of time then bits of brown like the end of a period. Also was one largeish clot right at the beginning. Has stopped now but not sure whether I feel crampy or am imagining it cos am thinking about it all the time. They haven't booked me another scan, in fact suggested that there wouldn't be one until the 20 week scan unless I present with more bleeding. Just said that I might MC and I might not. Odds are higher as I've bled (and am over 34). Didn't even suggest rest as apparently it makes no difference. If it's going to happen it's going to happen. Hope all's well with you.
ToastAddict-- No, never been mentioned, although as it was quite heavy with clotting would that suggest it wasn't what you describe?

V1KK1M · 04/09/2007 19:35

Hi All,

I'm starting to look very round now although I definitely only have one in there

Just wanted to ask about back aches. I have a really back pain at the very botto of my back. It feels like the bottom of my spine is being pinched and sometime is hurts so much I wince out loud. Anybody know of good remedies or supports?

Congrats dolly - I logged on to find out how you are doing!

For those that have had a slight bled if you let your doc know and ask to be referred to the EPU you will feel much more reassured once they check you out. Hope ypur all OK though.

V1KK1M · 04/09/2007 19:39

snowgirl - if you have seen the heartbeat then that is definitely a good sign and the odds of mc go down dramatically.

I know it is not easy as I can't relax in the slightest but worry doesn't help anyone and the weeks will fly back before you know it

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 04/09/2007 20:10

Snowgirl if this all happen before the scan and the bean was there with a heartbeat that must be a good sign! do you not even have a 12 week scan where you are? if not you can always get one privately there only about £75 at this stage and well worth the reasurrance x

KnitterInTheNW · 04/09/2007 20:45

All this twin talk... DH's mum is a twin and BOTH of her grandmas were from sets of twins! I guess I'll find out tomorrow at my scan.

Daftmoo · 04/09/2007 22:27

Hey all,

I've had a rotten day, all last night I had really bad tummy ache, so bad it kept me awake....although in hindsight it might of been the worrying keeping me awake. The pain eased off in the morning and then came back in the afternoon so I rang me docs to see if they could see me, my gp examined me at the end of surgery.... it involved loads of painful prodding, she said it might be caused by an ectopic pregnancy or just ligament pain she told me she'd like me to have a scan asap, but because I wasnt bleeding the local hospital wouldnt offer me one. CUE - my dp ringing private scan places to see if he could get me an appt for early tomorrow. Well, luckily they managed to fit me in this evening at 9pm and boy am I glad....I had the best experience, initially the consultant scanned my tummy and told me everything looked fine ( cue-tears from me ) then said to get a clearer look an internal scan would be better, I'm very funny about things like that, but went for it and it was soooo fab, I got to see my ickle baby in so much more detail, ickle fingers and everything, it has a really strong heartbeat and it's settled in the right place (cue - more sighs of relief). She seemed to think the pain I was having was due to stretching ligaments and not to worry. I'm now dated at 9weeks+2 and I've come home with about 10 pictures and a cd-rom of baby moving on screen which I cant take my eyes off. I'm sat here now with a huge mug of tea and a massive smile on my face.

Needed to share this all with you....I've been at my wits end all day, I hope everyone else is ok?

x

EllieG · 05/09/2007 08:32

That's lovely news to start the day! How nice daftmoo

ToastAddict · 05/09/2007 09:27

Yes, great news daftmoo, you must be so relieved!

I have another scan next Friday and will feel a lot more relaxed about the pregnancy once I (hopefully) see that everything is OK

snowgirl · 05/09/2007 09:37

TLSM--We do have a 12 week scan here (Mcr), but if you have to have one earlier via the EPU because of bleeding/pain they don't do the 12 week one as they've already dated from the first. Obviously if there were any more bleeding I'd be given another one, but may consider private. There is one very near my house.
Thanks V1KK1M. Wil try not to worry. Think I'll be counting down the hours til1 12 weeks though!
Good news Daftmoo! I blubbed as well when I saw the heartbeat. DH said, at the end of the day, 'well that was a rollercoaster!'

Soph73 · 05/09/2007 10:10

Morning all, aaahhhhh to daftmoo
EllieG - I know what you mean about constantly feeling hungry. Not looking forward to my first blood test next week as I won´t be able to have breakfast!!!

dolly1 · 05/09/2007 11:09

Daftmoon I'm so pleased for you. Nothing like a nice scan pic to put a smile on your face.
And I'm really sorry to hear about those who are worrying about bleeding. As others have said it is really common so try to stay positive. I think having a scan is a good idea in that position just for a bit of reassurance.
I haven't had any bleeding (touch wood!) but I'm going back for another scan at 8w just because I want to see he's still growing and well and trying to convince dh we should have one at 10w too! It is costing a bit but it's so worth the money in my opinion. Don't know how those who are waiting till 12w are mananging!

Now, back ache. I mentioned futher down the thread that accupuncture might help or what about relexology. I have both every week - two weeks just because I find it relaxing but have been told it's very good for back ache and all sorts of other things. Well worth looking into for those who are in pain.

Still not feeling at all sick. All I have is sore boobs and a lovely spotty rash on my chest! Nice!
Haven't put on any weight yet at all! I want a bump! I'm a size 8 so thought I would pop out quickly cause there is nowhere for it to hide, but nothing!
Have been shopping for maternity clothes though! Loving this whole new wardrobe thing! Do you think it should extend to shoes/bags etc too?!

Hope you are all OK and not to ill/tired etc today. It's a right roller coaster this isn't it?!
x

Daftmoo · 05/09/2007 11:48

Thanks all...that scan was the best £50 I've ever spent.

Dolly1 - a girl can never had too many handbags and you need something to coordinate with your new clothes

I've just had my booking in appt with my midwife, who was just lovely...I feel proper preggie now

x

Soph73 · 05/09/2007 14:14

Waves furiously to scorpio. That dress is gorgeous - not sure I´d go for the wrap though but they aren´t really my thing Congrats as well btw - how many wks are you?
Dolly1 - everyone needs to accessorise

Soph73 · 05/09/2007 14:15

There is a gynae here who has one of those 3D machines so am going to go to him when I finally get an appointment. Its 90 euros but well worth it I think

scorpio1 · 05/09/2007 14:16

Wrap just for car to room and back, etc, not wearing it all the time, just a cover up.

im 8+5

Soph73 · 05/09/2007 14:32

scorpio - oh I see, sorry I reckon that you and I must be at the same stage, I think I´m about 8 or 9 weeks.

MrsThreads · 05/09/2007 15:23

Hi all

Only just noticed there is a new thread for the April 08 gang - wondered where everyone had gone but now I have found you all again.

Dolly - I am so pleased you got your scan and all is well with you and your bean. That doctor needs a kick up the arse for scaring you like that.

TLSM - sorry to hear you have been in turmoil re spotting. Know how you feel.

If anyone else has had brown/pink discharge I know exactly how you feel but if it is any consolation I have been having it for a week now and I saw my bean's heartbeat last Friday morning. I have told my EPU about the discharge and she has said to keep an eye on it and if it changes to let them know. I hate seeing it though and gets me on a major knickerwatching frenzy.

I have been on antibiotics for a gum infection for the last week and now I have thrush . Bought some Canesten Pessary/Cream on recommendation from EPU nurse. Not sure about the pessary but using the cream today and I think it may be working.

Hope you all OK and hanging on in there.

Sorry about the long post
