Or twins

Soph73 · 08/10/2007 13:20

I´m definitely going to find out. We knew that DS was going to be a boy. Personally I just think it´s nice to know According to a chinese predictor thingy that I did a while ago I´m having a girl - still too early to know via scan though.

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 08/10/2007 13:27

I much preferred not knowing with DS, although I felt like he was a boy all along. As I'm going for a VBA2C as well I think I need that extra push to make me want to actually go through labour iyswim.

TheMaskedPosTERROR · 08/10/2007 13:28

We tried to find out when I was pregnant with dd, but she had her legs crossed at the time of the scan so they couldn't tell us. In the end it was a lovely surprise, and I had a feeling she was a girl anyway.

This time we aren't planning to try and find out and have another surprise when the time comes (and this time I have a feeling it is a boy - so I will have a long wait to see).

However saying that there is a HUGE part of me that would really love to know, so we will have to see how well I cope on scan day (I am going by myself, so the temptation may get the better of me )

V1KK1M · 08/10/2007 13:29

Hi All amd welcome to all those who have joined.

We are not going to find out as I don't mind either way (first baby).

I did watch a maternity programme once that said that if the heartbeat sounds like a train it's a bay and if it sounds like a horse galloping then it's a girl. From the other programmes I've watched I have predicted right when they didn't know (although I know nothings full proof).

Loistella - From you post a while ago this means that you would be having a girl!

Piccalilli2 · 08/10/2007 13:40

I'm planning to find out the sex at the 20wk scan - we did with dd and I felt it really helped me 'bond' - also this time, more prosaically, I want to know if it's worth washing all those baby clothes or if they should just go to a charity shop!

Congrats dolly on your CVS result, glad it was good news.

loisstella · 08/10/2007 13:45

Hi all,

Scan and tests went brilliantly.
Baby was busy and didn't like to be capured. They did an external scan only - so not as visible as the private scans we had done before but he has a head and a body and arms and legs...so I guess the basics are all there.
Was concerned I would be high risk due to being big...but actually very healthy bloodpressure etc so all good.

Opted out of nucal fold scan tests because I have been so nerovus up to this point and was starting to enjoy the excitiment... if this little bubba has Downs, then so be it. I don't wnat to wirry about that for the next 28 weeks.

They put me back on 21 April - they agreed he is probably a little small - but didn't see the point of moving the DD for the sake of a few days.
For here I'll leave it as it is because I reckon he will actually be born closer to the end of the month.
We'll see.
Hope you're all very well.
Will catch up with other posts now - was too excited just now as wnated to share the good news.

Soph73 · 08/10/2007 14:09

loisstella - how exciting & pleased that blood pressure etc all OK I have a blood test scheduled for 22nd to see if it's 1 in whatever for Downs. However, DH and I have decided we don´t want to know so will probably decline.

chipmonkeyPumpkinNorks · 08/10/2007 14:57

Chinese thing right for ds1 and ds3, wrong for ds2! Says I'm having a boy this time!

CeylonSapphire · 08/10/2007 15:38

Hello everyone
Thought it was about time I came to catch up with what's been happening - wonderful to see all the new names (welcome!), and to hear about the scans and the rest of the news.

I had mine a couple of weeks ago - all well and good. It was so exciting to finally see the little critter, and to watch it bouncing around inside me. Both dh and I were awestruck by it all. I had the nuchal fold test done, and all's well on that front, with the stats going right down to 1 in 1,500 and something.

I have my booking in appt on Thursday morning, and then the next scan is 23rd November, which seems SUCH a long time away!

In the last 72hrs all my internal organs shifted around, and I suddenly have a bump! One of the strangest feelings! I will have to go shopping very soon, and buy some new trousers - my skirts will last a little longer I think. Any recommendations to buy stuff? I don't even know where to begin. What have your best buys been?

take care.

dolly1 · 08/10/2007 16:08

Congrats on the good scan Loistella and CeylonSapphire.

I really admire those who are able to wait to find out. I don't have the patience - and also want to know what colour to paint the nursery.

As for shopping Ceylon, do you live in London? I went to a lovely store called Blossom on Walton Street in Chelsea. Got tons of great stuff - all the kinds of things I would have worn before I was preggers. Plan to do this in style!

Also got some lovely things from Formes and Zara. About to do an Isabella Oliver order too. Not sure if you've heard of any of them but google if not and you'll see what I mean - gorgeous things.
My favourite puchase so far has been my Seven and James jeans - with a top covering the bump band you'd never know they were maternity.

x

Soph73 · 08/10/2007 16:08

ceylonsapphire - lovely to hear that everything is going well. Can´t advise on clothes I´m afraid but if you read down the thread there are some suggestions.

Redmonster · 08/10/2007 16:13

Hi I have been just found the site and would like to add my details. I am due 02/04/08 with my 1st. Had my scan a couple of weeks ago and everything looked as it should! Lovely to see the little one moving around.

Soph73 · 08/10/2007 16:17

Welcome Redmonster

lemonaid · 08/10/2007 16:41

Welcome, siameez... that's really bizarre! Especially as there are algorithms they feed the nuchal scan and blood test results into to give you combined odds for each of the conditions it screens for, so that's hardly "confusing" . Strange people... Do you get a 20 week anomaly scan? If so at least you'll get to see if there are any soft markers on that and if all looks good at that scan your odds will probably be a lot better than the 1 in 192.

CeylonSapphire -- I wondered where you'd got to! Which midwife do you have from Kingston, do you know? There's some lovely maternity stuff around (Crave and Push also good, in addition to those mentioned) but a lot of it is expensive for something you'll only wear for a few months (although the good quality stuff always goes down well on eBay if you sell it on). I'm tending to go for the high street stuff and supplement with occasional bits of the more designer ranges. Plus my SIL does professional dressmaking (she's mostly a corsetiere, which isn't exactly appropriate at the moment, but I'm planning to try to persuade her to make me some things).

Welcome Redmonster, too.

Hi Lemonaid - I have been lurking, but I can't get on to the site that frequently cos the boss is around (he's in France today for meetings, so it's given me a little more leeway with what I've done with my time!).

I don't yet know which midwife I'm seeing - I had a lovely lady for the scan at Kingston, and both dh and I made to feel very comfortable and settled (although the reception staff could have been slightly better...) I will try to report back after Thursday and let you know who I saw, and how I got on.

You've done such a good job at keeping this list up to date... Thank you! I've added a few more details for myself.
