Interesting points re delayed clamping, I was thinking of asking post section, but I really just want to be out of theatre asap! Is that bad?!
I'll try and find podcast double barrelled nurse, thank you.

Two more days waiting for me. My back is so painful! I can't remember the last time I slept properly but like @ginny1234 just so desperate for baby to arrive safely. Really feeling my age I think, with associated risks.

Dweebette · 27/01/2020 20:00

Hopefully this link works as it's a good NHS info card on delayed cord clamping.
<a class="break-all" href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.uhs.nhs.uk/Media/Controlleddocuments/Patientinformation/Pregnancyandbirth/Deferred-cord-clamping-maternity-information.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwinsYbPx6TnAhX_TxUIHQDBCuIQFjAAegQIARAB&usg=AOvVaw2IWWvjMly189z8zBdoytfg&cshid=1580154892779" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.uhs.nhs.uk/Media/Controlleddocuments/Patientinformation/Pregnancyandbirth/Deferred-cord-clamping-maternity-information.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwinsYbPx6TnAhX_TxUIHQDBCuIQFjAAegQIARAB&usg=AOvVaw2IWWvjMly189z8zBdoytfg&cshid=1580154892779
I actually asked my midwife about it thinking it was something you gave to request and she said it's fairly standard now under NICE guidelines. She also said on average it only takes 3-5 minutes for all the blood to transfer to the baby and for the cord to stop pulsing and go white (don't think there are documented benefits of delaying after this point but I could be wrong!) so it's not a long delay.
Have managed to really hurt myself at work today, feel like I've pulled a muscle in my bump and back, currently lying on the sofa with a hot water bottle feeling very sorry for myself as walking is agony

doublebarrellednurse · 27/01/2020 20:38

@dweebette that sucks hope you're not uncomfortable for long.

I'm having some ligament pain in the bump now and just generally am uncomfortable sitting or lying or standing 😂 she seems to be able to kick exactly where it hurts too 🙃

Am getting to a point where I'm totally ready for it to be over and I'm only 36 weeks - only made it to 37 with DS so it scares me it could be another 5 yet!!

I've noticed that my bowel movements have become more regular and I'm not constipated for the first time since 8 weeks! Am sign watching for labour lol.

doublebarrellednurse · 27/01/2020 20:50

I've kinda gone the opposite way and have not told anyone that I'm a HCP. I'm an advanced nurse with mental health speciality, and a clinical lead and I don't want people presuming I'm fine if I don't speak up or that I'll be more tolerant because I understand! If I do say I'll stick with nurse I think 🤔

MW are generally a lovely bunch in my experience and very focussed on your experience so hopefully will listen and respect your wishes.

Ginny1234 · 27/01/2020 20:59

@doublebarrellednurse you're right, I've massively generalised and made it sound like everyone I've seen has been rubbish, and that's not the case. Tends to be consultants and really busy people who are clearly in a hurry to get to the next patient. I do understand and don't want to cause a fuss, just this time it's too important to ignore so I'm judging how to approach this time by all of those experiences.

It's a shame that my local midwives have had a shakeup of how they do things which has meant ive had a different one for each appointment. It would have helped my situation a lot to have been able to build up a relationship with just the one.

@Dweebette that sounds painful. Hopefully you will feel better soon after taking it easy for a bit x

Dweebette · 27/01/2020 21:05

@Ginny1234 I get you, I've had a midwife say to me really sarcastically "oh so you're nurse are you" because i knew what she was talking about. I'm a naturally anxious person so I've made it my mission to be as informed as possible from the start and felt like she was treating me like a child.

Having some serious braxton hicks this evening, not sure if it's because my muscles are tender that I'm feeling it more or if they're actually more intense than they have been.

Is anyone practising perineal massage? I'm trying to work up the courage but I'm a bit terrified

FirstTimeDS · 28/01/2020 01:23

Day 67,56745000886 of being pregnant (and dramatic)

Lost bits of plug, I assume, for 3 days now. Baby is predicted to be around 8lbs.

Had a growth scan and he put his entire fist into his mouth on screen. I interpreted this as a power move and the baby is trying to intimidate me ...OR I stayed up till 5am to watch the wrestling and am delirious xD

FirstTimeDS · 28/01/2020 01:26

I was tempted to try perineal massage @Dweebette but I can just about reach my ass to wipe these days and quite frankly I don't want my other half snickering into my downstairs. I've heard it works tho!!

doublebarrellednurse · 28/01/2020 06:06

@ginny1234 consultants are just jumped up doctors don't let them be dismissive just cause they are busy. It's not your fault that services aren't properly staffed! Make a fuss for sure. I will if I need to 🤣

@Dweebette that's terrible! What a bitch! There's no need for that, the more informed people are the better (and there's actual evidence for that too lol 😆) screw snarky bitches. You knowing what you want makes you a good patient not a bad one.

Dweebette · 28/01/2020 06:17

@FirstTimeDS those messages did make me laugh! 😂 You sound utterly ready to birth your baby, hopefully things move soon for you

OP posts:
LolaLollypop · 28/01/2020 07:28

Had a growth scan and he put his entire fist into his mouth on screen.

Sounds like baby is coming out hungry @FirstTimeDS, I hope you're ready! Grin

I've just started perennial massage. Nothing to be worried about ladies just give everything down there a good oiling!! I really think it helped me last time.

37+2 here and my hips/SI Joints are killing me. I've managed to avoid too much pain for most of my pregnancy but the last week has been really bad, I'm hobbling around a lot.

I feel ok in the mornings and baby feels quite settled but but the end of the day I have loads of pressure. I reckon I'll be a bit early again with this one.

I have my 2 year old today and tomorrow alone - very anxious about how this is going to go as mummy is too fat to do much! I've got a couple of hours playtime planned then fingers crossed she'll be happy to watch cartoons in the afternoon.

hazandduck · 28/01/2020 09:29

Haha @FirstTimeDS your posts made me laugh!! How exciting! My plug came away over a few days, waters broke and DD came that night! Hopefully not too long for you!

Good luck @LolaLollypop I had the same thing yesterday, I got out lots of pots, pans, wooden spoons and whisks etc, dried pasta and just let her ‘cook’ on the kitchen floor! And ‘found’ her lost (hidden) Kindle for an hour before I gave up and took her round my mum’s and let Mum bring me cups of tea all afternoon lol.

Just got home from my last midwife appt before a stretch and sweep next Friday (day after due date!) She could feel I was having tightenings whilst she measured the bump so hopefully it won’t come to needing the sweep. 38+5 today and so ready to meet this bubba.

Ginny1234 · 28/01/2020 10:36

@FirstTimeDS so funny 😆 and so true! Genuinely can not reach to do this and when I asked my husband to help me he thought it was some sort of come on!! As if!! I've been keeping oiled up/moisturised instead as that's as good as it gets. Figure it will help a bit if skin isn't dry.

Ginny1234 · 28/01/2020 10:37

We're all so close. Getting exciting! Xx 🤰🤱👶🏼🥰

Quirkyquichie · 28/01/2020 13:52

Ive got 3 days until i go in, by then ill be 37+1. I've done this 3 times before, but starting to get really nervous. The bit im dreading is when the mw checks the dilation, and only because every single person that had checked previously has had fingers like stumps. Totally felt like being punched in my lady bones every single time. Praying for A long fingered mw this time.
Hope everyone is well

lovesT · 28/01/2020 14:26

How are we all so close to meeting our babies?!

Work have told me today that they're going to do a send off for me on Thursday just in case I don't make it in next week 😅 which is officially my last week.

Feeling more and more uncomfortable and more ready to meet baby by the day. I'm just sitting here and have felt what feels like baby lightly head butting the lowest I've ever felt 😳 like I almost feel like I would be able to feel the movement if I put my hand 'down there' ... anyone else had this? Have had aches and twinges today as well.

Going back to the cord clamping and placenta, I think I've decided to let placenta come naturally and will opt for delayed cord clamping which I think will be quite standard practise anyway.

C'mooon babies! ❤️

doublebarrellednurse · 28/01/2020 18:21

I'm so exhausted today, is everyone else tired?

I'm 36 weeks and only made it to 37 last time but have a feeling baby girl will hang in there for ages yet 😳 I'm a bit scared.

I'm nesting a fair bit, lots of downwards pressure, and back pain but nothing really pointing at any signs of labour.

Can't wait to see everyone's babies born 👶🏻 🍼

FirstTimeDS · 28/01/2020 19:23

Exhausted since I took the clear blue at 6 weeks @doublebarrellednurse

I had horrible back pain in the night coming in waves and I was like: Labour? Not tonight ty and went back to sleep.

I really wanna give birth obviously but then there are times I'm chilling eating a twix like nah swerve it.

LolaLollypop · 28/01/2020 19:47

I'm ok for the most part of the day @doublebarrellednurse but by the time it gets to 3/4pm I'm just absolutely whammo'd. Currently finishing bedtime routine with my toddler / cooking dinner for me and DH and I am honestly dead on my feet. Also getting a few weird twinges in the evenings (probably when I'm most tired) but they seem to always go by morning.
I switch between being so ready for baby to come out or petrified about what lays ahead!!

45andfine · 28/01/2020 23:03

@dweebette I really noticed myself slow down by 36 weeks. Everything became hard work at work and hands and feet swelled up by end of day. Got easier once I'd started maternity, but now at 38+5 it's catching up with me again. I've genuinely no idea how I coped first time around when I was expecting my 4th! I was walking 4/5 miles pushing a double buggy with occasionally my 5 year old on buggy board because she had just started school and was tired too 🙄.

I've been getting sore lower back pain and period type pains in the evenings, but gone by morning, assume it's just ligaments relaxing?!

Still haven't packed bag properly, just doesn't all fit!

Pre op tomorrow- scarily real.

Dweebette · 29/01/2020 06:43

@45andfine I'm reassured to hear you felt you slowed down, I'm 35+5 today and feeling pretty useless this week, just want to lie in a heap when I get home but trying to stay upright to discourage baby from turning again. Have been getting a lot of period like cramps but I think it's linked to my hip and back issue rather than anything exciting happening.

Going to do perineal massage every other day after reading a few things that reassured me that as long as you feel some stretch and burn (delightful) it'll be beneficial. Have also started on raspberry leaf tea so will have that twice a day. So keen to avoid induction if possible and had a wobble last night with DH when I got quite upset at the thought of it (he tried to reassure me with an article from NHS that says 1 in 5 pregnancies are induced in the UK. Then found a more recent one that said 1 in 3. Then I showed him a recent local study which shows 55%... I believe I'm meeting my troubles half way but was having an off day). My friends said the best thing to do is to walk loads but I find it difficult with hip and back pain so I'm feeling even more useless because of that! Want to try swimming but I'm not very good at it and don't want to get in anyone's way

OP posts:
doublebarrellednurse · 29/01/2020 07:37

I think I'm the same @Dweebette that the niggling is more pelvis than labour but I want it to be labour. I'm 36 weeks and so ready lol. Babies not though so she shall stay put for now.

MW appointment today, I'm paranoid baby has turned because I'm feeling a lot of kicks low down again 😳😬

Also have back to back meetings today and tomorrow so hoping nothing overruns, one of them is to interview my mat cover!

LolaLollypop · 29/01/2020 17:09

Had my 37 week midwife check up and she's referred me for a growth scan as bump hasn't changed since my last appt 2 weeks ago. She did say baby is now fully engaged and has moved down so could be why but no harm in having another check. I'm sure all ok, I don't think I make very big babies anyway but want to make sure bubs is growing in there!

doublebarrellednurse · 29/01/2020 18:40

My appt today the head isn't engaged at all 🙄 she said she just might not

Ginny1234 · 29/01/2020 19:38

@45andfine am I righty in thinking you're baby should be arriving today?? Best of luck for an easy birth xx

@doublebarrellednurse mine didn't engage until 37 weeks so there's time yet!

Just been and got my hair done as don't suppose I'll have time for that sort of thing after induction in Monday. The week is dragging soooo slowly.
