Expecting twins in 2020?

Passionfruit20 · 16/10/2019 07:37

Is anyone else expecting twins (or more!) in 2020? I just found out I am. They’ll be our first. Technically due in April, although reality means probably March. Would love to share with other mums in the same situation as I’m now reading a whole new set of baby books and articles!

I think I was out of normal clothes at about 8 weeks but started to show about 12 weeks

QueenOfThePumpkins · 16/10/2019 22:29

Well I'm 19 weeks now and still barely showing Blush
The consultant seems pretty happy with everything and they seem to be the right size, so I guess it might be the way I'm carrying them. I do feel very round and have been in maternity trousers for the last 10 days or so, but people I only see from time to time are still shocked when I tell them the news and say "but you don't look pregnant at all!" (as recently as today...)

Thank you for the advice @twinmum, I agree it would be great if you could stick around :)
TTTS has been on my mind a lot... do you mind me asking a bit more about your experience of it - did you have to have the laser surgery? I hope your little ones are doing well now.

So sorry to hear about your previous losses @Jemstar and @Squiff Flowers

31+4 with boy/girl twins. I was originally told they were mcda as they have one placenta two sacs. Then at 20 weeks they discovered the opposite sexes! I have a fused placenta so it appears to be one.

Scanned today and est weights are 4lb 3 and 3lb 8. Twin 2 has dropped off the 10th percentile so they are doing extra scans now

twinmum2017 · 17/10/2019 07:10

@QueenOfThePumpkins I don't mind at all.

Around 21 weeks people started commenting on how much my bump had grown and I started to get the most awful back pain, plus pain under my ribs. I went to my local triage on the Sunday when I was 22+2 because the pain was so bad and they just sent me away with heartburn medication.
Luckily I had a planned scan the next morning and they said they thought it was ttts - the fluid levels weren't even and there was a 25% size difference.
We were referred to Kings college and got a call that afternoon to go up the next day.

I had the laser surgery and had 2 litres of fluid drained, and 200ml put back in to my doners sac. I had a terrifying week where they thought I'd go in to labour but then things settled and I carried them until my planned section at 34 weeks.

They were tiny at 3.5lb and 3.9lb but amazingly healthy and just needed to grow and learn to suck. 20 days in NICU and we were home.

Sorry that was a bit of an essay!

twinmum2017 · 17/10/2019 07:13

Oh also - I was tiny too (except during the ttts), no one could believe there were two in there!

KittenMittens1 · 17/10/2019 09:12

Here are my twinnies, due May 4th. (Star Wars Day)

i'm 11+3 today. got my 12 week scan on my birthday next week Smile

all this going on and should get the keys for our new home if it completed all on the same day as the scan! bit mad!

@Jemstar33 I’m 13 weeks and I have a definite ‘pudge’ in the morning (just looks like I’ve eaten too much ice cream) but by evening I have a belly as I seem to bloat every day 😂 so not a proper bump, but definitely not fitting in my my normal waistbands!

Thanks for sharing @twinmum2017 I’m trying not to google too much, so it’s nice to hear from someone who came through it successfully :)

@QueenOfThePumpkins early on its more fluid retention etc anyway as babies are tiny, first pregnancies take longer to show, people carry different so it varies tons. I had quite a lot of the "you don't look big enough for twins" to start with and now get people saying I can't have long left until I clarify there's two and thry look relieved I'm not about to go into labour on them. Someone will always find something to comment on!

Jemstar33 · 17/10/2019 15:00

I’ve scared myself so much today...for some reason this morning I decided to take a FRER test that I had leftover. Mainly because I’m constantly worried about MC since I lost my first pregnancy and I’ve not had many symptoms, I’m just worried about everything because I want this so bad. Anyway, the FRER was only slightly positive! I don’t know what this means. I’ve had no cramping or blood and I wish I’d never done it now, I’ve just made my anxiety about 10 times worse.
Have moved my scan to this Saturday. 😭 help I think I’m going mad.

Jemstar33 · 17/10/2019 15:02

Forgot to say I’m 7+4 today

Robs20 · 17/10/2019 15:30

Hi @jemstar, have you had a scan already? Assume yes as you know its twins! Don’t panic, I am exactly the same and have no symptoms either. I’m having a scan on Monday as I’m convinced something bad has happened. Please let us know how you get on on Sat.

Jemstar33 · 17/10/2019 16:02

@robs20 hey thanks for the reply and good to know I’m not on my own. Yes I had a scan at 6+2 and all was fine, two heartbeats both measured the same. Will definitely let you know and please keep me up to date with yours too.

I read about something called the hook effect which says once the hgc levels get to a certain point the hpt gets lighter but maybe I’m clinging to straws.

SleepingStandingUp · 17/10/2019 16:14

Only the scan can answer but hoenstly I think it's perfectly normal it starts to drop offx

QueenOfThePumpkins · 17/10/2019 17:47

Wow @twinmum2017, that must have been so scary. How lucky that you had the scan in time to catch it. I'm so glad they are healthy :)
Thank you for sharing.

@Jemstar33 I've heard that the tests get more faint after a while too, please try not to worry. It's very positive that you've seen the heartbeats!

Jemstar33 · 17/10/2019 18:04

@SleepingStandingUp @queenofthepumpkins thank you both. I will try my best to relax until the scan now xx

Robs20 · 19/10/2019 21:03

@Jemstar33 how did you get on today?
I have been having bad cramps and a funny tummy all day. Convinced something bad is going on in there...

Jemstar33 · 19/10/2019 22:06

Hey @robs20 thanks for checking in. All was fine! Babies are 1.5cm long and hearts are beating away! Really think we work ourselves up by expecting the worst. I hope you’re feeling better soon. I found taking to the babies made me calm down (a bit) x

DartmoorFCR · 20/10/2019 18:58

After IVF treatment my partner and I had a viability scan this week, it revealed 2 blobs with heartbeats! Knew it was a possibility of course but totally shocked all the same. 8+4 today. Now have to wait until 13+5 for scan as we are going away! Hate the waiting, just want to get to the point where we can relax with it a bit more.
Best wishes to all.

SleepingStandingUp · 21/10/2019 17:36

Awww congrats @dartmoorFCR xx

Robs20 · 21/10/2019 18:53

@Jemstar33 so glad all was ok! Just had mine and despite my worries both little beans are still in there!
@DartmoorFCR congratulations! Did you have 2 embryos transferred?

Jemstar33 · 21/10/2019 19:11

Congratulations @DartmoorFCR mine are clomid twins so knew the possibilities but still a lovely shock!

@robs20 that is fab news. It’s so emotional isn’t it! How far are you now?

Robs20 · 21/10/2019 19:19

@jemstar 10+2! I was so convinced it was bad news that I refused to let poor DH come to the scan. Going to keep my fingers crossed until the next one but for now I am happy!
The sonographer told me to phone the Nhs scan dept and say I need a double appt. did you do this?

Cauliflowerpower · 21/10/2019 19:20

Hiya! My twin girls are 4 so just dropping in to give massive congratulations! Its awesome...

You should Google and get along to your local twins club! I found ours brilliant and we've made some great friends. No one knows what its like apart from other twin parents... also drop in before you have them if you can. Pick their brains AND make friends!!!

I LOVED my out n about. Just thinking of selling it now. My friends had a mix of the city mini double and the mountain buggy duet.

We got the Ford C Max with sliding doors. Again I love it. Masses of space and wasnt too pricey 2nd hand.

If you need any advice just yell!

reluctantlondoner · 21/10/2019 19:30

How did some of you find out you're having twins so early?
