Expecting twins in 2020?

Passionfruit20 · 16/10/2019 07:37

Is anyone else expecting twins (or more!) in 2020? I just found out I am. They’ll be our first. Technically due in April, although reality means probably March. Would love to share with other mums in the same situation as I’m now reading a whole new set of baby books and articles!

@Robs20 yes we had the option of transferring 2 as neither were great quality/good enough to freeze. It was a case of use it or lose it. Who’d have thought it?!

Jemstar33 · 21/10/2019 20:28

@Robs20 wow I bet you got some good views of the babies then! I can’t wait for my 10 week one. Did you get any pics? Aw, he can be there for the next one and he’ll see more! Yes, I phoned today but they said to wait until my midwife appointment and they will bring it forward/change to a longer one. That’s not till 6th Nov. Feels ages away still!

@Cauliflowerpower thanks for the advise! Sure we’ll all have lots of questions 😆

Jemstar33 · 21/10/2019 20:29

@reluctantlondoner I had a scan at 6 weeks as I MC my first pregnancy and needed peace of mind

Cauliflowerpower · 21/10/2019 21:18

@reluctantlondoner most (not all) people having twins these days are a result of fertility treatment. These generally include early scans at about 6 weeks.

Passionfruit20 · 21/10/2019 21:27

Thanks @Cauliflowerpower ! I have already signed up to TAMBA and my local twins club, definitely want some experience twin mums on hand for advice! :D

@reluctantlondoner even though I am an IVF’er, they missed it on my early scan, so I still didn’t find out until 12 weeks despite having a scan at 8 weeks. Was somewhat of a major shock since the first sonographer had told us it was definitely just one! 😂 plus I had only one embryo put in, so we didn’t think it was really much of a possibility. Turns out we were just extra lucky!

@reluctantlondoner I had an early scan as I was bleeding. My first daughter died at the start of the year so I am super nervous about everything so having lots of early scans!
Spontaneous twins here....people keep asking which side of the family they are on and we have no family history!

SleepingStandingUp · 21/10/2019 23:20

@Passionfruit20 ours were laso missed at a (private cos I'm neurotic) 7 week scan so neay passed out when she said twins at 12 weeks then was hysterical with panic when she said identical

@Robs20 same here. I took Clomid but twins are identical so not Clomid twins, and no family history

reluctantlondoner · 22/10/2019 06:41

Thanks for the replies that makes sense and I'm so sorry to those of you who have experienced losses or had a difficult journey. Wishing you the best of luck with your pregnancies xx

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 22/10/2019 07:14

Hi, just popped on to wish you all luck! My B G twins are 20 mos now. They are so much fun. Their latest trick is showing each other their tummies at random intervals 😍😍

Good luck to you all and super good luck to squiff I remember your earlier threads and everything crossed for you this time!

Wishing56 · 22/10/2019 10:02

@robs20 yes you will need a double appointment for yout NHS scan. I asked my MW to request it in my scan referral notes but she didnt so when I got there the sonographer had no idea it was twins. They did a short scan but I had to come back a week later for a double appt for all the measurements.

SweetHummingbird · 22/10/2019 14:59

Could I please join too? Expecting DCDA boys in march but really end of Feb Smile

QueenOfThePumpkins · 23/10/2019 06:23

What is everyone's experience of movements, if you've had any yet? Over the last week or so I've had lots of wriggly, swishy feelings across the middle of my tummy and on the left side, but barely anything on the right. I've got my next scan tomorrow but it's worrying me a bit. I have got an anterior placenta, so do wonder if it's on the right side and stopping me feeling much there.

Welcome and congratulations to the newbies Grin

And a big hug to those who have had difficult times on this journey Flowers

Wishing56 · 23/10/2019 09:07

@queenofpumpkins i first felt twin 2 who is on my left hand side and took over a week to feel anything from twin 1 (right hand side).
My Twin 1 is the lower twin so she had been kicking my anterior placenta. I had a routine scan and Twin 1 was laying breach so tucked right behind placenta so all made sense.

Now i am 22+2 i feel them both daily although if they kick down the middle i sometimes dont know who is who until the other one pipes up.

SleepingStandingUp · 23/10/2019 10:09

I jVe an anterior placenta and babies both like the right side so I get lots of kicks at the top and when I lie in bed I get flutters in the left but that's largely been it. Twin1 is now breech so I'm getting more at the bottom. Also cos they're bigger even the kicks to the placenta are starting to be felt (28+6 now)

MrsEG · 23/10/2019 10:26

@ QueenOfThePumpkins I could have written the same message! I have one posterior and one anterior placenta - I feel much much more on the left than I do on the right. Very cold water or a spicy curry tends to really up twin 1 on the right but I feel twin 2 wriggling about all the time!

doodlejump1980 · 23/10/2019 10:30

Hi! Another twin mum here. My dcda boys are 4 and a half now. Feel free to fire off any twin questions! Good luck Everyone and make sure you get a physio referral for bump support belts.

Passionfruit20 · 23/10/2019 14:24

Oooh, how early did you all start feeling movements? I’m only 14 weeks tomorrow, so way too early, but I wasn’t sure if you feel earlier with twins compared to singleton?

OP posts:
Passionfruit20 · 23/10/2019 14:25

Oh and welcome @SweetHummingbird ! I’m April technically but March realistically. @doodlejump1980 experienced tips and insight welcome!!

OP posts:
MrsEG · 23/10/2019 14:44

@Passionfruit20 No earlier than a singleton for me - started feeling light tickles at about 19 weeks and now at 22+3 it’s wriggling/light poking, have even seen my belly move a few times!

@doodlejump1980 Hello! I’m expecting DCDA boys :) Re: physio how do you get referred is it via the midwife or a GP? I’m noticing pain in my thighs and back at the moment.

Wishing56 · 23/10/2019 14:54

@Passionfruit20 i felt Twin 2 kick for the first time at 18+1 and then Twin 1 at 19+3. Had flutters before then. At first couldnt really feel from the outside but now I can see my belly move and everything. Some of their kicks can be a real boot! It is an amazing feeling!

Squiff70 · 23/10/2019 18:12

Hi everyone, how are you all doing?

I felt twin 2 (I think) moving about last night for the first time at 18+2, then again this morning. Having lost twins at 19 weeks and never really felt their movements I find these tiny kicks very reassuring :)

boodles101 · 23/10/2019 18:57

Congratulations everyone. I have 9 week old boy/girl twins and am loving it so far. I have a 2yo son aswell and found the layer stages of twin pregnancy alot harder, probably from around 28weeks. Definitely get all the rest that you can, don't over do things!

QueenOfThePumpkins · 23/10/2019 19:01

Thanks ladies, it seems pretty usual for movements to feel a bit one-sided then :)

@Passionfruit, I started getting little sensations around 18 weeks but wasn't sure whether it was the babies or just a rumbly tummy! It became more and more regular and strong though and now I'm feeling definite little "bops" as I call them, almost like something flicking me from the inside! I'm 20 weeks exactly. It is definitely reassuring to feel them :)

How has everyone found the care so far? Especially those of you with MCDA babies. I've been generally satisfied with my fortnightly scans, they all seemed very thorough. The consultant I was placed under has been on long term sick though, and I won't meet her until Friday as she's only just got back. So far I've had my three scans with three different consultants. I'm not sure whether the regular consultant will do my scans from now on or whether it will still be different people. No major concerns, but it would seem better if there was a bit more continuity. I will ask about it on Friday but it would be good to know what experiences are like in other areas.

QueenOfThePumpkins · 23/10/2019 19:04

Congratulations on your little ones @boodles101! How many weeks were you when they arrived, if you don't mind me asking? And how is your 2 year old getting on with them? :)
