Expecting twins in 2020?

Is anyone else expecting twins (or more!) in 2020? I just found out I am. They’ll be our first. Technically due in April, although reality means probably March. Would love to share with other mums in the same situation as I’m now reading a whole new set of baby books and articles!

I know of people locally who have been there for triage care @twinmum, though if it was something like laser ablation I believe it would be Birmingham from here (which is a bit further). It doesn't sound like many hospitals offer that. I'm glad you had a positive experience with Kings, I've heard they are one of the best.

twinmum2017 · 25/10/2019 20:42

Well hopefully
You'll never have to find out, but you've got a great hospital in Birmingham if you do.

QueenOfThePumpkins · 25/10/2019 20:51

Yes fingers crossed! Overall I feel very lucky to have had such good care so far, I will try not to focus on today's appointment too much. Thank you for the reassurance as well Twinmum.

Also sorry for hi-jacking the thread a bit Blush How is everyone else getting on??

AuroraMonroe · 26/10/2019 12:24

Expecting non-identical twin girls in Feb, but planning for a January birth. I'm 23 weeks and not huge yet but it's happening slowly!

8 weeks left of work and I'm already so fed up of teaching, aching and exhausted.

I've been offered a C-sec due to previous medical issues but we're still going to attend an ante-natal course just in case it doesn't go as planned. Anyone else? I think it's more for the father to be (we're not together) I think he wants to feel prepared and more involved which is lovely really Smile

Is anyone else going down the co-parenting route and have any advice? First pregnancy for both of us and wasn't planned. Twins were a big surprise but we're both excited to meet them! xx

SleepingStandingUp · 26/10/2019 15:33

@doodlejump1980 oops sorry! I did think Wow. Last measurement I was 54 but I started off at size 18 and I have child bearing hips 😂😂

Squiff70 · 28/10/2019 14:27

How is everyone doing?

I have my anomaly scan tomorrow. Anxious doesn't come close but I've felt both babies wriggling away this last few days (I'm 19+1 today) so that's reassuring.

I'm hoping, if both babies are fine, that the consultant will be able to confirm his suspicion that we're having a girl and a boy.

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 28/10/2019 17:40

Hey all, just discovered this thread - I'm 27 weeks with boy/girl twins (second pregnancy, I have a little boy already). Official due date 23 Jan but all being well I'll be booked in for a section 1st week of Jan. What a way to start 2020! 😂

I'm definitely starting to slow down now. Feeling heavy, a bit breathless, can only manage small meals and even then I get heartburn. Oh, and my baby girl is transverse with her butt wedged up in my rib cage! But still, I feel so lucky to have twins and to have been able to carry them this far.

@SleepingStandingUp 👋

@Squiff70 Hope your scan went well today.

QueenOfThePumpkins · 30/10/2019 10:04

Hope your scan went ok @Squiff70. It is so nerve wracking in the run up to them isn't it.

Is anyone else on low dose aspirin? I read that it can reduce the risk of pre eclampsia and should be taken by women at increased risk (such as multiple pregnancy and first time pregnancy). I asked my midwife and she said yes, I should have been prescribed it Sad
I should be getting a prescription this week, but apparently the benefits are limited if you start it after 16 weeks. Definitely something for those of you at earlier stages to ask about.

QueenOfThePumpkins · 30/10/2019 10:13

Sorry should have added, it depends on the combination of risk factors rather than only expecting multiples. Here is the info I read:
www.guysandstthomas.nhs.uk/resources/patient-information/maternity/low-dose-aspirin-in-pregnancy-to-prevent-pre-eclampsia.pdf

SleepingStandingUp · 30/10/2019 10:18

Yeah I did, I get a high score for risk of pre eclampsia - fat, old, twins, family history despite having no issues in Pregnancy 1
So aspirin from start and klexane injections from 28 weeks

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 30/10/2019 16:30

@QueenOfThePumpkins I'd never heard of taking low-dose aspirin! However, looking at the list I've only got two moderate risk factors for it so I guess maybe my doctor thought there was no need 🤷🏻‍♀️

MrsEG · 30/10/2019 17:20

@QueenOfThePumpkins Yes, I’ve been on 150mg aspirin from 8 weeks but not just because of twins, also recurrent miscarriage was a factor for me. It’s led to some fun blood draws at hospital - I forget my blood is thinner and it spurts all over the place 🙈

QueenOfThePumpkins · 30/10/2019 18:47

@lifesnotaspectatorsport it might be worth asking at your next appointment anyway - I've only got two moderate factors as well, but midwife seemed quite surprised that I wasn't already on it Hmm

Thank you for the warning about the bloods @MrsEG, hope it has the same effect on me... they can never usually get anything out of my veins!

So sorry to hear about your recurrent miscarriages too Flowers

SleepingStandingUp · 30/10/2019 23:43

Anyone having the injections from 28 weeks to replace the aspirin? I'm a week in and losing the will to live, they hurt so much 😭

QueenOfThePumpkins · 31/10/2019 06:46

Sorry to hear that, @SleepingStandingUp :(
I've not heard of those before but sounds horrible! Have you tried one of those numbing creams? You should be able to get them from a pharmacy. Perhaps that would take the edge off a bit?

MrsEG · 31/10/2019 06:57

@QueenOfThePumpkins Thank you lovely x

@SleepingStandingUp Is it Clexane? I had those for the first 12 weeks - after a while you do adapt and get used to them I promise. If I was finding it sore I would hold an ice cube on my belly for a minute first and then inject in to there so I didn’t feel it as much :)

SleepingStandingUp · 31/10/2019 08:23

Yes Clexane, the ice cube is a good idea, thanks. Doesn't help that I'm doing it myself with colossus boobs in the way 😂

30 weeks today so only 7 weeks to go!

nopenotplaying · 31/10/2019 21:41

I've posted on the multiples board but there's been no response after a few hours so not sure how visible it is.

I'm 34 weeks on Saturday. Had a growth scan yesterday as 2 weeks ago T2s growth has dropped off the scale. Yesterday they told me she has only put on 4oz in two weeks and dropped even further down in a curve. Her cord pressure is also off the scale high.

Been to the day unit today for steroids (ouch!) then back for steroid 2 tomorrow, Doppler scan and to see consultant again. They said they may deliver.

I'm in pieces, anxiety is through the roof. They are telling me to watch movement but honestly it's so hard to know who is who.

Has anyone got any experience of this? Do you think they really will deliver within the next few days??

Squiff70 · 31/10/2019 21:59

Hi!

Our scan went great, thanks for asking. One healthy looking boy and one healthy looking girl. We're scared but excited.

@nopenotplaying try not to get yourself too wokred up although I understand how frighting this all must be for you. My friend had twins born at 34 weeks - they were around 5lbs each but perfect - they needed help breathing for less than a day and are now bouncy 5 month olds. I'm sure you and your babies will be okay. Sorry I can't advise on the rest of your post but I didn't want to read and not reply Flowers

nopenotplaying · 01/11/2019 01:53

Thank you @Squiff70 xxxx

QueenOfThePumpkins · 01/11/2019 07:06

Sorry to hear you're having such a stressful time @nopenotplaying Flowers

I don't have much helpful to add, but wanted you to know about a friend of a friend who had her twins at 29 weeks! I can't remember why, as I don't know her personally. But they started school in September and are apparently doing just as well as other four year olds.

Although they'd of course be premature, at 34 weeks I'm sure you and your little ones will be absolutely fine if they have to deliver.

Wishing you the very best of luck, and please keep us updated.

twinmum2017 · 01/11/2019 07:17

@nopenotplaying

This exact thing happened with my twins.

They were planned for a c sec at 34 weeks following ttts but then our NICU was full and so they were going to delay only to find absent flow and no growth in twin 2 so delivered anyway.

Both my girls were tiny at 3lb5 and 3lb9 but they only needed to grow and learn to suck. Twin 2 needed CPAP for 1 day, but was breathing fine after that. They were tube fed only for a week or so until they were old enough to have a suck reflex and then we started to breast/bottle feed. NICU will support you in whichever you decide to do.

We had 20 days in there and both came home together with no on going issues.

I hope this has helped. No one wants a baby in NICU but the staff there really are amazing. Xx

Ps. Yes yes yes to the ouchey steroid injections!

SleepingStandingUp · 01/11/2019 10:06

@nopenotplaying sorry you've got all this going on. Another one to echo that if you do land in NICU, thry are amazing. Do you have estimated weights?
