Expecting twins in 2020?

Passionfruit20 · 16/10/2019 07:37

Is anyone else expecting twins (or more!) in 2020? I just found out I am. They’ll be our first. Technically due in April, although reality means probably March. Would love to share with other mums in the same situation as I’m now reading a whole new set of baby books and articles!

How are you @nopenotplaying?

nopenotplaying · 03/11/2019 22:19

Sorry for the delay ladies and thanks for your replies. It's been a whirlwind few days! I'm having my pre-op tomorrow afternoon then they plan to deliver on Tuesday. Got to be there at 8am. The last Doppler scan I had was better but still no growth on T2. I'm struggling to feel her movements so I've been on daily ctg. that said she when she's on the ctg she's a right wiggler! I think it must be a positional thing.

I'll update you sometime after Tuesday!!!

Squiff70 · 03/11/2019 23:02

Oh bless you @nopenotplaying. Best of luck for tomorrow and Tuesday. Look after yourself Flowers

Passionfruit20 · 04/11/2019 18:59

@nopenotplaying good luck!!!! All the positive vibes for a successful delivery!!!!

Good luck today @nopenotplaying - I'll be thinking of you

SleepingStandingUp · 05/11/2019 09:23

Good luck and best wishes nopenotplaying and babies xx

Squiff70 · 05/11/2019 11:59

Thinking of you @nopenotplaying!

MrsEG · 05/11/2019 13:15

Very very best of luck @nopenotplaying - thinking of you today!

Could I ask those further along and who have twins a question on movements? I am 24 weeks and I’ve felt them moving every day now since 19 weeks. But I’ve no idea how to differentiate between the two - is that bad? Should it be obvious which twin is moving? I just feel random movements all over my bump.

Also, would anyone recommend any particular twin feeding pillow?

QueenOfThePumpkins · 05/11/2019 18:13

Hope all has been going well today @nopenotplaying, have been thinking of you Flowers

I'm interested in your movements question too @MrsEG - I'm only 22 weeks but have been thinking exactly the same as you.

Squiff70 · 05/11/2019 19:37

@MrsEG and @QueenOfThePumpkins, if you look on your reports from your anomaly scans, it may give the exact location of each twin right at the bottom of the report. Mine does so I know roughly who is where!

twinmum2017 · 05/11/2019 19:56

@MrsEG - I honestly couldn't tell. Not until much further along. Unless the kicks were right over the left or right in which case it was fairly obvious as I had them laying down either side.

MrsEG · 05/11/2019 20:13

Thanks @twinmum2017 - my consultant said similar to be honest! I’m nearing 25 weeks now so the movements are very strong, I see them moving about all the time but it’s just so random and all over the place that I haven’t a clue who is who. The only thing I could really say is that it tends to be at roughly the same times at of day.
I have a growth scan tomorrow so will see how they are currently lying and see if I can figure it all out!

SleepingStandingUp · 06/11/2019 14:32

Been to docs with breathlessness, expecting to be fobbed off with "you're pregnant". Instead she's given antibiotics and inhaler (cold moving to chest and v mild asthma) and told me if it gets worse to call 999!!! Well that was reassuring 🙄🙄😂

QueenOfThePumpkins · 07/11/2019 05:54

Oh no @SleepingStandingUp, I hope you feel better soon (and don't have to call 999!). It's good that they're being thorough, definitely better than being fobbed off.

How was your scan @MrsEG?

MrsEG · 07/11/2019 06:45

@SleepingStandingUp Hope you’re feeling better!

@QueenOfThePumpkins It went really well! Both looking good and measuring 1lb 10oz and 1lb 9oz each at 24+4! I asked the consultant about movements and she very much mirrored what @twinmum2017 - that until you’re much further along, the babies are swapping and changing positions all the time (Twin 1 was head down at my 20 week scan and breech yesterday so he’s done a total flip!) - she said the main thing really is just making sure you feel movements each day, and not to worry about who’s who. It’s one of the reasons twin pregnancies have so much extra monitoring too apparently, to keep a close eye on it! I feel much more reassured now (especially as one of them booted the probe during the scan!)

SleepingStandingUp · 07/11/2019 08:32

Brilliant news MrsEG, and thanks ladies. Woke up and coughed up gunk so hoping bit is just a bad chest under the circs. Got scan today and feeling a bit swollen all over, but nothing too major. Just 31 week bloat haha

QueenOfThePumpkins · 07/11/2019 11:44

Hope all goes well for you today @Sleepingstandingup. It must be horrible for you whatever it is!

I'm glad your scan went well @MrsEG, it sounds like they're growing wonderfully!

I've just had my 22 week scan and it generally went well, though I have to go back in a week because something wasn't perfect with the umbilical artery doppler... the consultant takes 5 traces for each twin, and just one of them showed high resistance and the odd glimpse of no EDF in twin 1 (all a bit over my head really!)
She said that this can point to growth restriction issues because it's to do with flow from the placenta to the baby. But they've both continued to grow well, especially the one with the odd reading strangely enough. They are more or less exactly the same estimated weight now. The consultant didn't seem at all worried and thinks it's because of the stage of placenta development and also because my twins are extra wriggly, which can make the readings difficult!

Luckily I've been put under a different consultant now, and I was very reassured by her. She's a fetal medicine specialist and will be doing all my scans from now on. Obviously I'm a bit worried, but trying to focus on how sure she seemed that the Doppler blip is nothing to worry about... Must. Not. Start. Googling!

twinmum2017 · 07/11/2019 13:57

@QueenOfThePumpkins I googled for you and it seems your consultant is absolutely following the guidelines (if not slightly ott as you barely meet the criteria!) for this scenario by bringing you in 1 week later which is brilliant. Great that you now have someone you feel you can trust.

Good luck to everyone else having scans or appointments and get well soon @SleepingStandingUp !

SleepingStandingUp · 07/11/2019 16:21

Thanks ladies.

31 weeks today and fatties are 4lb and 4lb 6!!

Also got my date booked in for planned C Sec - Friday 13th Dec!!

Jaxx14 · 07/11/2019 16:38

Hi everyone...newbie poster here. Found out mid October we were expecting (after trying for a year and miscarriage in Feb) so we were thrilled.
Booked a reassurance early scan which we went to today to find out there’s two in there! I’m shocked but over the moon! :)
Seems a lot of you are much further along but any tips for the early days would be amazing. I’m still super anxious that things could go wrong but saw two little hearts beating and all measuring ok for 6w5d so fingers crossed all remains well.
Best wishes to you all! So excited to be able to post in this group!! :)

SleepingStandingUp · 07/11/2019 17:00

Congrats Jaxx. Do you know if they're identical or not? When is your booking in scan with midwife?
My advice would be sleep whilst you can 😂😂 I'm 31 weeks and struggle to sleep due to discomfort, weeing and general size.
Have sex whilst you still feel able to haul your body about into the right position 😂😂😂
Get some good basic maternity clothes Inc leggings, tights and pants.

Jaxx14 · 07/11/2019 18:39

@sleepingstandingup - Haha...great advice! Especially about the sex! My husband wants to wrap me in cotton wool so will take some persuading for that! Booking in appt is 27/11 and scan is 16/12 which feels AGES away!!
Also the way my belly has popped already I’m not sure I’ll be able to keep it a secret until then!
There were two separate sacs and sonographer said they are dichorionic diamniotic twins...all I know about them is they aren’t identical?? Right?! Think I’m going to have to swiftly become an expert! Eek!

MrsEG · 07/11/2019 19:45

@SleepingStandingUp hope your scan went well today! I am personally one of those who believes Friday 13th is a very lucky day :)

@QueenOfThePumpkins Thanks! Glad you’re feeling much more reassured. Stay away from Google!! That search engine isn’t a pregnant woman’s friend!!

@Jaxx14 Congratulations! Enjoy these first few weeks :) I was in maternity leggings at 10 weeks so try and grab a pair! And as mentioned just really enjoy it; I’ve had PGP from 22 weeks and am super uncomfortable now and miss those early days haha! You’ll be very well looked after at the hospital with twins :)

QueenOfThePumpkins · 07/11/2019 20:45

Thanks so much @twinmum2017, that's very kind and makes me feel a bit better Smile

Wow not much more than a month to go @SleepingStandingUp, that's so exciting! Glad they are getting nice and chunky Grin

Congratulations @Jaxx14, it's a wonderful shock isn't it Grin
I still sometimes wake up and think "oh my gosh there are two!"... and I've known for a good 12 weeks now haha. Yes dichorionic diamniotic are not usually identical, though I believe they can be sometimes? Whereas monochorionic twins are always identical. It's good that you've found out before your booking in appointment, as your midwife should be able to give you more info etc nice and early. And will be able to book you a double appointment for the 12 week scan!

Passionfruit20 · 07/11/2019 21:24

Can any of the experienced twin mums tell me what their birth was like? I met my new midwife today (16 weeks) and she didn’t really tell me much, just to wait and talk to the consultant when we finally meet her. I originally wanted a natural home birth, so going from that to an intense hospital birth is really freaking me out :(
