@sazzlerazzle have you received your letter yet? I haven’t received mine or even a text reminder which id normally get 10 days before an nhs appointment... 🤔

facevalue · 15/10/2019 12:10

@woollycat my scan is also 1 nov. surely you are seeing the midwife before then and you can ask her for all tests you want x she can send you leaflets

facevalue · 15/10/2019 12:12

@woollycat i just copied this from the leaflet they sent me with my appointment letter by email.

Screening for Down’s, Edwards’, and Patau’s syndromes
This leaflet provides some more information about the combined screening test offered during your dating scan. This information should be read together with the NHS screening programmes booklet ‘Screening tests for you and your baby’.
What will happen if I decide to have the test?
When you arrive at the Fetal Medicine Unit for your first trimester scan, also called the nuchal scan, you will be offered the Down's, Edwards’ and Patau’s syndrome screening test. If you wish to have it, a blood test will be taken prior to the scan in the antenatal clinic room. The receptionist will be able to guide you there.
Your bloods will be analysed while your scan is taking place and the sonographer will ask you to wait in the fetal medicine reception until the blood results are ready. This process takes up to two hours, but you should go home knowing your screening test results.
In order to improve the quality of the ultrasound images your bladder should be full. If your baby is not in an optimal position for the sonographer to complete the examination, you may be asked to walk a little to encourage your baby to change position.
Are there any risks from this test to me or my baby?
The scan and the blood test are safe and will not harm you or your baby.
How are the chances of Down’s, Edwards’ and Patau’s syndromes
calculated?
The risk of Down’s, Edwards’ and Patau’s syndromes is based upon a combination of:
• your age (and some other factors such as your ethnicity, whether you smoke or not, and
whether you are diabetic)
• the measurement of nuchal translucency (NT), a small amount of fluid at the back of your
baby’s neck
• the size of your baby
• the level of two hormones, PAPP-A and free B-hCG, in your blood.
We use the national ‘cut-off risk’ of one in 150 to identify babies that are considered to have a higher chance for Down’s, Edwards’ and Patau’s syndrome. If the screening test shows that the chance of your baby having Down's, Edwards' or Patau's syndromes is higher than one in 150 – that is, anywhere between one in two and one in 150 – this is called a higher-chance result. A higher-chance result does not mean your baby definitely has Down's, Edwards' or Patau's syndromes. If the screening test shows that the chance of having a baby with Down's, Edwards' and Patau's syndromes is lower than one in 150, this is a lower-chance result.

@Helensss no me neither! I’m just taking her word for it on the phone that it’s booked, even my midwife hasn’t been in touch so I’m not sure she even knows!

Sunshine8888 · 15/10/2019 13:11

Hi @woollycat Yes it might be too early. The baby has to be measuring more than 45mm which is around 11+1. At my ‘12’ week scan I was only measuring 39mm so they couldn’t do the screening and I have to go back for another scan. I didn’t mind as it’s another opportunity to see baby but up to you. You can have the private blood tests (harmony, Iona etc) from 10 weeks though x

Helensss · 15/10/2019 13:47

@sazzlerazzle yeah I think I’ll phone up to check tomorrow if there’s no letter tonight, where are you based? (Don’t have to answer that if you don’t want to 😂)

sazzlerazzle · 15/10/2019 14:05

@Helensss I’m in Manchester :) I will be mithering my midwife again in a couple of days if I don’t receive the letter!

Sunshine8888 · 15/10/2019 14:14

I’ve just had my second 12 week scan date confirmed for Tuesday eve 😊 should be 12+2 then so hopefully will be able to get the measurements this time!

Helensss · 15/10/2019 14:15

@sazzlerazzle ah I wondered if you were the same area and having the same problem!

@sunshine8888 eeek not long to wait 😊

Sunshine8888 · 15/10/2019 14:18

Any scan buddies for 22nd Oct??

facevalue · 15/10/2019 14:31

@sazzlerazzle ahhhh i love manchester. i got my midwife letter now and my appointment is tomorrow! but they send it all by email already ? checked your emails/ junk etc

sazzlerazzle · 15/10/2019 14:52

@facevalue Oh email would be so much better!! The lady I spoke to said there was a letter sent out last week so I’m definitely expecting something via the old school postal service but I do wonder why they don’t email things like this, would save so much time and money! You must be exited about tomorrow :)

facevalue · 15/10/2019 14:54

@sazzlerazer give this in the feedback form when you attend your appointment. i usually get a text asking for feedback .
most hospitals and GPs now use electronic records and emails. telephone consultations.

i don't see why not email.

CharlieB93 · 15/10/2019 15:01

Has anyone got their prescription exemption cert yet? Was told last week I should receive in the post

kstann · 15/10/2019 15:34

They NHS aren't aloud to send emails out due data protection and it not being secure.

I had my booking in with local midwife at 7 weeks (I'm now 11) but as I'm having baby in different county (by choice) I got a letter for a second booking in appt. which is at 9.30 Monday morning, but then I got my scan date in the post for 9am Monday and the letter says the appt can be up to a hour! I called to query it and she said it should be fine but I'm concerned if it runs over I'll miss the booking in which I need to have bloods as not had that yet. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Does anyone know when the screening bloods should be done or does it just depend.

Do you get results on the day? Xx

kstann · 15/10/2019 15:34

@CharlieB93 yeh I got it in the post- it came pretty quick x

NiffleTime · 15/10/2019 17:50

@CharlieB93 Not had my certificate yet, sent it off early last week!

facevalue · 15/10/2019 17:53

@kstann not sure where you live. i got my appointment letter by email first and then arrived by post. you supply your email so i gave permission.

not sure why u say not allowed when it's already happening?

May2311 · 15/10/2019 18:43

@Sunshine8888 I’m the day after 23rd😊 9.05am in the morning which is a relief as means I don’t have to wait around counting the minutes all day!! Just wish it was here now. Xxxx

kstann · 15/10/2019 19:15

@facevalue I obviously wasn't aware it was already happening. I had surgery earlier in the year and ended up having an appt last min, my company needed proof so I asked if they'd email it to me and that's just what I was told 🤷🏼‍♀️ x

Moonstone12 · 15/10/2019 19:18

@Sunshine8888 I'm a scan buddy! Mine is 10:50 next Tuesday 😀 super excited and super nervous!

CharlieB93 · 15/10/2019 19:19

@NiffleTime ah I think they’ve forgot about me! I’ve not even received a form to fill in

kstann · 15/10/2019 19:22

@CharlieB93 my doctors surgery gave me mine xx

sazzlerazzle · 15/10/2019 19:28

I don’t have an exemption form either! Crazy how different your experience is depending on where you live. I’m not even sure if I just get sent one or if I have to apply.

@Helensss came home from work and my letter is here!

Shelbustotherescue · 15/10/2019 19:30

@Sunshine8888 @Moonstone12 my 12 week is on Tuesday too - 9.15am !
