OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
kiteflying · 01/08/2007 10:38

We will need to keep changing this title as we now have TWO arrivals.

On second thoughts we will probably have filled it by the end of the week

myweegirl · 01/08/2007 10:43

congratulations washy - sounds like it was a good experience - he looks gorgeous and so content.

jem - hannah is gorgeous too!

like the new thread and the name.

well it's the 1st of august but can't hear any loud pops yet! i'd be happy to queue jump if anyone will let me ?

myweegirl · 01/08/2007 11:05

oh dear - i've killed the thread, either that or you're all off 'popping' without me

itchyncsratchy · 01/08/2007 11:14

good morning everyone,

well I'm out of sorts today.. couldn't sleep at all till after 2, woke up very early by the wierdest of kicks directly down at the cervix or somewhere close. so I'm feeling slightly zombied and not up to much

ach this bump, all stretched and aching! I want to swap it for a gorgeous baby too, though maybe not today.

to be honest, I've been panicking about the c-section. I've been very relaxed and blithe about having a c-section. I like to feel planned and too many friends recently had long complicated labours ending in c-sections. so I was feeling confident that having it planned in advance must be better. but now after hearing of washy and jem's easy/ quick births it got me thinking and I'm quite worried about the recovery from c-section. Obviously much prefer to be home quick and enjoying the baby instead of hobbling around recovering from surgery.

itchyncsratchy · 01/08/2007 11:18

don't worry weegirl, I'm sure I'll kill it now.
I'm not exactly a ray of sunshine today!
waking up tired, achey and anxious on a rainy day, thank goodness only 2 more days before dp arrives

kiteflying · 01/08/2007 11:20

Itchy you poor thing. Why don't you try what Annie (?) suggested and make a C-section birth plan to try and feel less mizz about it.

myweegirl · 01/08/2007 11:28

itchy - i feel tired, sore and fed-up too today - but i don't have (hopefully) to think about a c-section. this time last pregnancy my DD was 2 weeks old, so getting to 39 weeks is new teritory (?sp) for me. am i right in thinking that it's the new royal you are going to? do you know what their policy is on CS, how long you'll be in etc? you could make a CS birth plan and talk it through with DP (once he's here) so that he knows exactly what you want to happen and can remind the medical staff?

myweegirl · 01/08/2007 11:29

x posts - great minds think alike kiteflying!

conkertree · 01/08/2007 11:39

Hi everyone - am away from home this week and have only just managed to find a computer with internet access - so annoying just as the real action starts.

Congrats to jem and washer - both great labour stories to not scare the rest of us.

My update - went to see midwife on Tuesday (got booked for an induction on 11th August if it goes that far) but head is 4/5 engaged and she did an internal - about 1cm dilated, so could happen anytime, but could also still be a bit of a wait. It's so frustrating cause I'm getting lots of tightenings - some painful some not, but it doesnt seem to progress to anything else (as yet). Am slightly nervous that I wont really know I'm in labour as my mum had no contractions at all with her first two, but that must be pretty unusual.

Hope everyone else is doing well, and managing to think about something else from time to time (I know I'm finding that hard). Oh and the midwifes best advice was lots of sex - and if its not tmi - apparently the best way for your body to absorb the hormone from your man is if it goes through the stomach! Not sure I am up for that at this stage though.

Hope to get back on the internet before long, and if anything happens before, I'm sure my text buddy can update you (thanks in advance Hersetta).

But no too much queue jumping please - dont want to be too far down the list to pop now that due date has arrived.

kiteflying · 01/08/2007 11:55

Sex...what was that again? Oh, yes. I remember now.

Bad hips and mild SPD equals no sex. Boo hiss to hips.
Unless anyone has any tips they are not embarrassed to share?

stretchmarks · 01/08/2007 12:11

Must admit I think I've tried everything but the sex. Just hoping DH doesn't read your post Conkertree I know he'd be far too keen to try that constantly for the next few days !!

It feels at the moment as if Junior is trying to kick his way out have felt his feet in some very uncomfortable places - just come out if there is no room left in there !!

myweegirl · 01/08/2007 12:17

it's just taken me 10 minutes to work out how the hormone could get into your stomach my brain has turned to mush.

growingbagpuss · 01/08/2007 12:22

Hmmmm.. so that raises the whole spit or swallow question... - and are we really that desparate to go into labour?

I think this is yet another cruel twist of nature - that yet more pleasure for a man can lead to possibly the most painful thing you will ever do.... . I think I would rather wait it out, and leave him sex less....

Once you get to 39 weeks (plus 2 days now) it kind of feels less awful. I have a sweep booked, and today just the same old period type pains.. nothing very special - so I know it is going to happen sometime within the next 2 weeks.....

itchyncsratchy · 01/08/2007 12:28

thanks annie and kite, I've been giving some thought to a birth plan I can see it will help to feel more in control. I'm having trouble persuading dp I need him to be present during section. He said he'd prefer to wait outside! I can understand he doesn't want to feel helpless watching an op but I don't want to be alone. I just took it for granted he'd be with me but he seems quite shocked! I'm booked in ERI for friday August 17th and should be able to leave Sunday evening or Monday morning depending on time of op.

I've been reading up on some of the threads about c-sections and it all seems to be about big knickers and painkillers and a long recovery. but i've made note of some advice about asking for immediate skin to skin and for baby to be weighed in same room etc. I'm feeling pretty deflated and tearful about it all today but I know I'm just tired.

oh no, while writing things get worse. sainsburys have just rejected my credit card, which I'm sure has some life left in it, so no delivery and I'll have to go by taxi n back to tesco or waitrose.

I should never have gotten out of bed today.

itchyncsratchy · 01/08/2007 12:33

sorry it took me a long time to write my post of woe and the conversation's gotten more jolly!

ds was 2weeks plus overdue and I went into labour immdeiately after sex! so try to fit it in early in the day as for us was 1,30am and we wanted to sleep!

conker, gill and bagpuss it sounds as though you're all ripe n ready to go!

and kite congrats on your lovely scan

GillL · 01/08/2007 12:44

Hi Annie - the pains are like normal period pains but on and off a couple of times a day. I've got everything crossed hoping that I'm not going into labour. I really don't want to miss my sister's wedding.

Might try the extra sex a week or so before I'm due. I'm sure dh won't mind. He knows he won't get any for a while after the baby is born so he'll take whatever he can get.

Having a nice child free day so far. Finished the washing up and done 3 loads of washing. Got to do another one as well as I managed to splatter my nice bright white skirt with bolognese sauce and I hate handwashing. Still got to clean the bouncer frame and buggy and pack for the weekend. Might leave that til later. Hopefully dd will sleep on the way home and stay asleep for a while.

tokentotty · 01/08/2007 13:18

Sorry, completely random, bizarre post here which has nothing to do with anything anyone's chatting about but if I don't do it now I'll forget for another few days....

someone had coldsores and was worried about using zovirax. Two things - a) I vehemently believe that aciclovir (the active ingredient) is fine during pregnancy as a friend of mine took the tablets, bloody amazing things they are but prescription only, whilst at the end of her pregnancy as she was getting terrible coldsores and she checked it out and was told it was absolutely fine. If in doubt then call your local pharmacy and just ask them to check in their book. b) if you STILL don't want to do that then try the Compeed patches - they really, really are good.

Phew. Been meaning to post that for ages !!!

Have just ordered a tripp trapp chair on line. One less item on our wish list

bananabump · 01/08/2007 13:37

Lol TT, that was me with the coldsore! I did use zovirax and it's going now, so I'm really pleased because I so want to be able to give baby a kiss on the head when he's here and not worry about being infectious. Thanks for posting that though, it has put my mind at ease.

Feeling so tired today. I have a midwives appointment at 4.30pm but I just want to sleep. In fact I feel like cancelling it, since it's only a routine check. Can I do that or is it important? I'll have to walk there and I suspect it isn't far but I just haven't felt so good the past couple of days, I could really do with a rest day.

I might call and say I have a migraine. My blood pressure and urine etc have been consistant and clear throughout up to last wednesday, and my feet aren't more swollen than usual/nothing to report other than being hot and very tired.

I think I overdid it yesterday: I went crazy with the cleaning, then took a hot bath when I could have done with a cold shower, then blowdried my hair in a mad rush so I got thoroughly overheated, then rushed sweating to asda, raced back to meet friends, sorted them all out with pizza, cake and drinks... then to top it all off, somehow ended up having sex til 1am. Not really sure how that one happened since I swore myself off it, but it seemed like a good idea at the time.

No twinges afterwards though probably a good thing since I'm so knackered.

As for the prostaglandins being absorbed better through the stomach lining, all I can say is thank god I have a coldsore or I'd never get a moments peace!

Mrsshuvel · 01/08/2007 14:07

no no no i'm here and no news! First day pc working for weeks!

Congratulations Jem and Washy - beautiful babies and i love the names.

Went to the Scissor Sisters concert on sat night and shimmied around with a feather boa a bit too much i think, caused a lot of attention. Had serious pains and back ache in the car on the way home. Really did think i had brought on labour but got home and went to bed and the pains stopped. Little one didn't stop dancing all night though and kept me awake. Serves me right i s'pose.

tokentotty · 01/08/2007 14:21

Oh Banana, I think I'd have to go if I were you to be honest. Imagine, she might tell you that the head's engaged or something positive like that which might help you feel better?
Welcome back MrsS !

myweegirl · 01/08/2007 14:31

banana - i'd go if i were you. just to be on the safe side. and as a positive you'll get to hear the LO's heartbeat (can't remember if uou know what it is, if not then if it sounds like a train it's a boy or a horse and it's a girl)

i've just discovered that neice (who is 20 in couple of weeks) has posted photo's on bebo of my DD - i'm a bit furious with her . which is maybe a bit unreasonable of me but if i wanted photo's of her in the public domain i'd do it myself. she's currently at work so have texted her asking that she removes them asap.

kiteflying · 01/08/2007 16:32

Where is everyone? Are they having babies?

GillL · 01/08/2007 16:59

Not me kite. Just had to go and pick up dd from mum's. She's fast asleep now Wish I could have a nap but dh will be home soon and I really should start dinner. Had a mad cleaning day - 4 loads of washing, washing up, cleaned the bathroom, cleaned the kitchen floor. I'm worn out. This nesting is a tiring business.

kiteflying · 01/08/2007 17:03

GillL, don't forget you need your rest as much as a clean house.
I am starting to feel that coming back to work for these two weeks was a good idea after all, as last week I was up at 6am cleaning the kitchen and other frenzied "baby prep" moments. Yours sounds more of a serious case.
Here I can do little more than internet shop and look busy.
