CAZ10 - The first night we bought our DD home and put her to sleep in the cot she just wouldn't settle down in it and cried everytime we tried. Eventually put her to sleep in the bed with us. When m/w came around the next day she told us it was a no-no for baby to sleep in the bed with us, and told us to try swaddling DD and put her in the cot. Tried that and she was much better.
(took me ages to get right the swaddling thing though!)

mixedmama · 27/07/2007 10:53

Good morning everyone,

Thanks for all your thoughts regarding the midwife. I just worry though that if I complain and get it changed what if she happens to be on shift to deliver my baby... could be awkward. I think I am going to see her in Sept and if she is no better will def think about changing.

Skidaddle - Good luck with the scan today, I am sure everything will be fine and look forward to hearing any news you bring back.

Caz10 - in case I forgot good luck on Monday. Re: the moses basket, I have a small flat and personally I thought the moses basket was great for moving around the house and alot lighter than a pram. We got ours from Babysrus for about £20, in the sale as they can be expensive so I would check them out. We will be using it this time as well. Some people think they are a waste of time but from my point of view it was one of the most important pieces of equipment we bought.

Hope everyone is well and got exciting plans for the weekend.

Hi everyone,

Just back from my scan, all is fine and baby is a ....

BOY!!!

The sonographer was lovely and made us go away and think about if we really wanted to know (I wasn't sure) and also so she could get a better pic. Makes such a difference when the mw/sonographer is nice.

Thanks everyone for your kind words and good luck to Lizzer and Caz10 for today and Friday

Feel all shaky and teary now - but in a good way. Mixedmama - any more boys names along the lines of those you already suggested greatly appreciated!

skidaddle · 27/07/2007 11:37

Good luck Lizzer and Caz10 for today and MONDAY (sorry Caz)

mixedmama · 27/07/2007 11:46

Oh, Lizzer good luck too.

Skidaddle - I will keep my eyes and ears peeled. Great news. Cant remember if you were hoping for a boy, but i am sure you are over the moon regardless.

So jealous that my scan is not until 7 September - ahhh. Sorry I know I say it everytime someone has a scan but so happy for you all.

MotherofZ · 27/07/2007 11:46

oohh thats lovely skidadle
can't wait to have my scan, 2 weeks to go still!!
can't remember if i have asked but do u need a full bladder for 20 week scan?

skidaddle · 27/07/2007 11:57

thanks mixedmama and motherofz

motherofZ - no you don't need a full bladder - you can see so clearly compared to the 12 week scan - it's so amazing - could see his little ears and everything

mixedmama - that is a long time to wait, you poor thing - were you not going to ask if you could change it because you'll be more than 20 weeks by then? I suppose the upside is that you'll have an even better view

We didn't mind if it was a girl or a boy, but now that we've found out, and as we already have a dd, I think it makes us realise that we did really want a boy (although would probably be saying the same if it was a girl!)

I am so ridiculously happy

mixedmama · 27/07/2007 12:04

DH said did I think we are having a boy and i do think it but only because we have DS and I think I am building up a boy incase it isnt a girl. I would actually be quite pleased with a little boy though. I done an on line old wives tale thing yesterday and it said 100% girl.

mixedmama · 27/07/2007 12:07

Skidaddle i am just lazy and cant be bothered to chase around trying to get hold of people to change the appointment. I have taken the whole week off when i have my scan as there are all kinds of other appointments going on... and it is the friday so will be a nice end to the week.

Ambi · 27/07/2007 12:46

Thats great news skidaddle.

Went for my 4th scan yesterday, felt a bit emotional afterwards thinking that would be the last time I see her until she's born. Very active now, like a mini Jackie Chan inside!! I can't wait to buy proper baby things, instead of the odd babygro/ babywipes! I love the plain white waffle Moses Basket on John Lewis website, only £30 which is pretty good for JL, some can be upto £70 in m/care etc.(Might have to sneak off to the Trafford Centre next weekend whilst hubby is away watching footy!)

Hope everyone is bearing up, sounds like some of ya are finding it tough, it really is only a couple of months away.

Has anyone booked their Mat Leave yet? How early have you booked it? I got over-excited and booked it a couple of weeks away. My last working day is 2nd Nov, so only 3 months of work left - will fly by though (whatever happenend to May & June, and July to come to think of it?)

Anyone else finding it hard to remember what day it is? Dizzy pg brain, how the hell you ladies cope with kids already, my brain is mush without caring for others.

Nbg · 27/07/2007 12:49

Great news Skidaddle

Enjoy your scans Lizzer and Caz!

Ambi, am going to check that moses basket out. It sounds great.

mixedmama · 27/07/2007 12:50

Since I am temping I guess i can just stop working whenever I want. The current booking is until October and will probably get some bits and pieces to take me through to Xmas and probably just stop then, assuming of course I am still feeling healthy etc.

(prob won't be pretty & white covered in babysick etc.) But the thought is there!!

Beanstermummy · 27/07/2007 13:47

Hi peeps. I'm all in pickle about the flavour of Button babe - as we have one DD it would be financially and practically easier for another and aslo I can imagine having anohter little Dd - but then part of me would like a little boy - no idea really.

As for co-sleeping. We didn't intend to but with DD she refused to ever settle anywhere but with us (during the day and night) and so ended up in with us until about 12 weeks - then straight into cot. Even my HV commented on what a determined little blighter she was when once trying to get her to settle with me after I'd fed her. I was worried a bit about rolling over etc but it just never happened - you seem to have this sort of unconscious insight into exaclty where they are - although she always seemed to shuffle over to her Dad (V much a Daddy's girl still). There is some evidence that co-sleeping allows the babies to develop better breathing and heat control as they sort of learn from their parents while asleep. Also for us she quickly missed out the 2 or 3am feed - would be a bit unsettled but then fast asleep again - it meant that after 6 weeks or so we were getting from 11pm to 7 am solid sleep - can't be bad really. For us (and importantly her) it worked but have no preconception so what we'll do with this one. And we must remember that there are far more babies co-sleeping around the world than not.

Mixedmama - re. ethnicity etc - I was appalled the other day when we had a survey from the local council about the nursery and they asked for the following ethnic origins for the child.

Scottish
irish
Welsh
English
Indian
Bangladeshi
Other European
Chinese

Begs the question a) What about BRITISH????, b) what about American (South and north not just USA) and I'm sure a few others. As my mum is Welsh, Dad English and married to a scot - was NOT V impressed - and did write on the form to that end! Hope you gave the MW some grief about assuming. Really pi**es me off - what actaully does it matter anyway??????

Anyway - rant of the day over - going to have lunch of some form of unhealthy sarnie I think!

As a parting note - have any of you with DC's already tried to look for crucial items (ie the adaptors which fit the car seat onto your previous pushchair unit) only to find youy have only 1 of them or lost completely!!! We're currenlty missing a LHS Mutsy Traveller car seat adaptor for the Urban rider unit and also the head support for a maxi cosi cabrio car seat!! Oh yes, and the batteries leaked from the fisher price kick about bouncy chair thing to! Will keep updating as and when I discover more lost/knackered/broken items!!

mixedmama · 27/07/2007 13:56

Beanster... completely missing the all important OTHER box. I didnt actually say anything to the midwife, just changed the form when I left. When i have mentioned it before people always say well that is white, but i just think that i should be the decision maker as to what box i get lumped into as well as I considered WHITE to be race as opposed to ethnicity.

Wow we have reached nearly 120 messages already.

Wanted to give a big HUG to thelady was just reading your thread on Pregnancy.

Housemum · 27/07/2007 14:07

Beanstermummy - have you tried the customer services departments of any of the companies? Some are useless (eg Graco for a broken bit on a baby swing) others are OK (Fisher price were good when a wheel came off a pushalong toy - sent me replacement for nothing and some spare plastic balls to go in it).

IWannaBeLikeYou · 27/07/2007 14:18

Nothing special to say, just Hello! and to add myself to the list.

Due 18 Dec and have 1 DS 3 yrs and 4 mths.

I'll have my 20 weeks scan next week and can't wait to find out what we're having, but that's just because I don't have any "preference" ...

Lots of people keep saying "I hope you get a girl this time...", so in a way I would like another boy, just to "disappoint' them ...

All the best!

thelady · 27/07/2007 15:20

mixedmama: thanks for the hug! It really helps to have mumsnet when I feel I can't talk to DH about the same stuff yet again....

Lizzer · 27/07/2007 15:21

Hi all, I'm back from scan and had a hellish time They scanned for ages and said that there was an enlarged kidney and a blocked tube. Everyone was lovely but the upshot is I have to go to9 Newcastle (the other side of the coast and a 3 hr drive) hospital for a 3d scan to investigate further. They got me an appt on tues with possible further apts after that...

I feel so horrible about it and couldn't stop crying, dd was there and didn't know what was going on with me all upset. I feel better now as I've just typed 'renal dilation' into mn and found a few other cases, all of which were fine, but I might start a thread of my own as they were all a long time ago. The worst case scenario is an operation for the baby after it is born, the best case is it goes down on its own. Soryy for rambling, it was meant to be a lovely day when we found out the sex (which we couldn't cos baby had legs crossed!) and it turned into a nightmare, I couldn't go back to work after it I was too upset...

Sorry for ruining the mood of this thread everybody and hello to iwannabelikeyou.

Skidaddle that's great news! The sonographer did say at one point she thought she'd seen 'something' (ie boys bits) but seeing as I am going to be having at least 2 more scans we should know soon...

thelady · 27/07/2007 15:25

Lizzer: poor you! Have a big hug from me.

I'm just over an hour north of Newcastle on the A68, so if you need a distraction on the day let me know and we can try and meet up.

suey2 · 27/07/2007 15:48

poor you, lizzer

Anyone beginning to feel like a blimp? I mean, having to get up sideways when lying on the sofa, finding it difficult to sit and tie your shoelaces etc.

MotherofZ · 27/07/2007 15:52

lizzer big hug for you

MotherofZ · 27/07/2007 15:56

suey2 - agree with you on the getting up off sofa/bed - bit wierd.

I know you're not supposed to sleep on your back - but anyone else finding it hard to get out that habit?

Even if I fall asleep on my side- usually always wake up on my back and find it really hard to get up as there is a horrible pain in my lower back.

Beanstermummy · 27/07/2007 15:58

Lizzer - Hugs xxxx

I'm sure everything will work out just fine for you and your LO
