Beanster - PMSL about the ex thing. Luckily my exes have strange names hubby wouldnt even come out with.

Mother of Z - love Nael and Daniyal. itried to get hubby to go with Daniyal but he wouldnt have it, said it was too English. Shame about being picked on I loved correcting people and being asked how to pronounce my name - can you tell I was a little self absorbed during my school days.

Mrswizz - Willie? I see your predictament. What about registering the baby as William and then people will shorten to whatever they feel comfy with, hubby will prob be the only person using Willie tho.

Kerioke... I am a second timer and finding this pregnancy such a problem. Aches pains and stress.

Lizzer - I like your names... esp Rose as it is so timeless.

RANT ALERT

I had my midwife appointment yesterday and this was my first appointment with my OWN midwife as was booked by someone else.

SHE WAS AWFUL!!!!

She completely ignore DH and DS, I mean completely. She asked me if the other midwife discussed my birth options and I asked what she meant and she said "did she discuss the birth options" it is like i heard you the first time but didnt understand the question. So i said that i was having the baby at the hospital and then she satrts running off names of wards Lilac, Green or whatever and i was like errr birthing centre and she said "right, Lilac, nearer the time go and have a tour" - thats it.

Then she told me to get up on the bed and starting trying to find the heartbeat, didnt say anything just started rummaging around... I knwo i have had a baby before so i know what she is doing but still. Then she says right you heard it and I heard it.

She told me to empty my wee jar a reuse it next time.

I asked about the round ligament pains and as soon as i started my sentance she said yes it is normal and cut me off. I asked about carpal tunnel syndrome as i do seem to have it quite bad in my right wrist, bad enough for me to ask about it even though I have read about it and she said well if it gets really bad you can be referred to a physio - err well would i need to mention it if it wasnt bad.

To top it all off the worse part for me other than ignoring DH, was that she filled in a form and assumed ethnic origin and this really ticked me off as I always tick other and specify because altho my skin is clearly white my ethnicity is mixed. I always get asked people never just fill it in for me. Got really annoyed about this, especially as my name is not english and she couldnt even pronounce it.

Ahhhhh - if you got this far well done.

By the way everyones names are cool and I think all the babies will suit their names.

how bloody awful- have you thought of complaining!

suey2 · 26/07/2007 08:07

oh- i was worried about not putting on enough weight. I have put on 6lb in 2 weeks, so my secretary was right! Now 21 weeks and 9lb heavier. May have to start forgoing my lunchtime crisps and teatime chocolate

buzzybee · 26/07/2007 08:07

Mixedmama that sounds awful!!! Surely you have the right to ask for a different midwife? Imagine what she will be like on the day of the birth? Sorry, I guess you've thought of that already...

I don't know how you do it getting into work so early either. I'm often still snoring at 8am. Luckily my work are pretty flexible about me ariving around 9am... (I make up the hours later).

Has sad email today from friend in US who just had second failed IVF treatment. I feel so lucky in many ways, even tho this was an accident for me I'm so excited about it now.

buzzybee · 26/07/2007 08:08

Think 1 stone is about right at 20 weeks if that's any comfort. Also to rapidly put on weight about now - but should tail off a bit...

suey2 · 26/07/2007 08:11

thanks buzzybee i think i will make my own muffins rather than go to starbucks every morning as i ahve been for the last 2 weeks, though. (funny how that has coincided with the weight gain!)

buzzybee · 26/07/2007 08:14

Yes I know what you mean - had a bit of a binge week last week - chocolate brownies and other similar goodies and gained about 4lb! Bit of a wake-up call...

suey2 · 26/07/2007 08:17

oh god- i had dominos pizza last night! am knackered as doing extra hours at work to prepare for my locum who is covering my holiday. Feet and ankles v swollen yesterday

MotherofZ · 26/07/2007 08:20

been realy bad too and starting having twixbars for the past week.....
Problem with me is that sometimes the stress or work and knowing that it is ok to have a few more extra calories, I eat for the sake of it and not because I am hungry....

suey2 · 26/07/2007 08:24

me too! I definitely eat to fuel to mid afternoon slump. seeing 16 patients a day at present (not today- have day off) so am physically f*ed by the end of the day.

mixedmama · 26/07/2007 08:27

I am addicted to fruit salad and fruit generally at the moment, mainly because i am still being sick so fruit is the only thing that quite settles me and also TMI if I am sick i can still eat more fruit.

Re: the midwife. i thought i will give her the benefit of the doubt as this is the first time i have met her. plus hopefully if i stay low risk as i did with DS then hopefully will not have to see her too much. i was told it is unlikely that your own midwife will deliver your baby, altho with DS my midwife did so you never know.

MotherofZ - I have far too much time on my hands so have just been looking at Indian names that could work as British names.

Boys

Arun - Aaron
Hari - Harry
Neel - Neil

Girls

Jaya - no real alternative just pretty
Anita
Dara - although I think this may be an Irish boys name
Maya
Tara

Not much to chose from really is there.

MotherofZ · 26/07/2007 08:33

They are all lovely names....
You know when I pregnant with DD - I was considering Maya and the immediate family all turned around and said, oh you can't call baby that it's not a muslim name - even though it was in the 'Muslim names' book! Same with Laila - really really had my heart set on that name and family interferred and said 'oh you can't pick that name - it doesn't have a significant meaning'
THIS TIME - not going to tell anyone (except Mumsnetters!)and just announce after birth.

MotherofZ · 26/07/2007 08:36

sorry was talking on the phone and typing, meant
'...just announced the name after birth'..

mixedmama · 26/07/2007 08:37

Sorry MotherofZ - i think i meant skidaddle.. as she said she was half Inidan...of course you need Muslim names. Brain is in upside down today...

DH family try to say thinkgs about Muslim names, but from my experience most Bangladeshi names seem to be either made up or Indian so not Muslim anyway.

Good plan not to tell anyone else until you have the baby. We got told even after we had DS and had named him that we should change it - told those people where to go, the cheek.

OP posts:
mixedmama · 26/07/2007 08:38

Laila is such a Muslim name though... ridiculous that that would be binned. And, it is so pretty. What did you settle on?

OP posts:
mixedmama · 26/07/2007 08:38

Just realised I am no longer anonymous on here as I have published my DS name and the potential names of future children. Whoops.

OP posts:
MotherofZ · 26/07/2007 08:41

Prob Hannah for girl, and one of the three mentioned below (somewhere!) for a boy.

mixedmama · 26/07/2007 08:44

Hannah is very pretty. That doesnt strike me a particularly Islamic tho, weird isnt it whereas Laila and Maya shout Muslim name to me. Altho I can imagine it flowing really nicely of the tongue no matter who is saying it.

OP posts:
MotherofZ · 26/07/2007 08:48

I read it in one of the books -although my pregnancy brain has forgotton the meaning.

dundeemarmalade · 26/07/2007 11:00

so far all dh has said in response to suggestions for boys' names (is it me or are girls' names easier to think of?) is 'veto'. hmmm.

Housemum · 26/07/2007 11:01

I wouldn't reveal your names to anyone in RL - everyone I know who has done this has found lots of "well-meaning" advice, generally criticising their choice! If you just tell people when the baby is born, they'll just go "aaahhh".

(Only exception was that a friend and I that were due at the same time had a totally-in-confidence discussion as she had her heart set on her name and didn't want me to "pinch" it! Though it would have been highly unlikely as it was almost the same as my surname and would have sounded ridiculous!!)

MotherofZ - I bought some grey pinstripe trousers in Mothercare, look good with dusky pink or black wrap tops from there.

dundeemarmalade · 26/07/2007 11:08

our choice of boys' name problem is made tricker by fact that his surname is as typically jewish as mine is typically english and my favourite names are all quite old-fashioned and old testament-ish i.e. ezra, elijah, solomon, abrahams etc. given that dh is ethnically rather than religiously or culturally jewish and that i'm (in name and background) typically english i feel a bit uncomfortable about landing our child with an uber-jewish name. dunno why really just feel a bit wierd about it - don't like people making assumptions about him/us cos of his name, i guess and don't want people to make assumptions about sproglet either. maybe i'm too sensitive about it though.

mimicakey · 26/07/2007 11:32

Suey2, did you find out the authors of that book on exercise for pg and childbirth? Sorry if you've alredy posted it but there have been about a million posts since I was last on!

suey2 · 26/07/2007 11:57

yes, sorry forgot. it is by eileen brayshaw and available from the blackwell scientific website. Quite comprehensive re exercises, but nothing on perineal massage or any of that stuff. Lots on pelvic floor and posture etc.
