Hey all... over here!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Housemum · 15/08/2007 17:22

Ok - I'll ignore the 'stenders stuff cos I only watch Corrie! (Now, if you want to goss about Sean & Violet, Steve & Michelle etc...) Used to watch Eastenders but gave up after they resurrected Den!

Mixedmama - the boy question hasn't surfaced yet! I certainly would not be happy with boys staying over, even in separate rooms - I would have to sleep on the floor outside one room to be sure there was no "sleepwalking" going on! She did go to the cinema at Easter with a boy, but they never really carried on from there - she still talks to him but I don't think she's really interested. Luckily she is level-headed around boys as she goes to Scouts so is able to talk to them as friends rather than getting all silly and giggly like some of her mates. It's a really strange mix - Scout uniform, with heaps of eyeliner and straightened hair!

Neuro · 15/08/2007 17:31

I"m not so sure. I think Sean has been arrested and is now overacting in prison.

Patrick has got very dark blue eyes, and so has Bryan on Big Brother. It is the coolest colour. Like midnight blue.

Blah blah. Bored.

Neuro · 15/08/2007 17:32

I didn't know girls could be Scouts!

mixedmama · 15/08/2007 17:34

Yeah, i think if we have a little girl she will have a hard time with DH as he is very similar to my dad.

thelady · 15/08/2007 18:15

DH (chef) says that cakes are the one part of cooking where accuracy is everything - you can be a bit slapdash anywhere else, but not with a cake.

Best option is a recipe that weighs EVERYTHING. Next best is weights plus volumes for 'wet' ingredients only. Worst case is 'cups' recipes unless you know that your cup is the same size as the one it was written for.

UK cups are different to US cups which are different (again) to Australian cups! I have a wonderful scone recipe, but it only works with one particular cup, and what I'll do when it breaks....

mixedmama · 15/08/2007 18:48

That is funny about the cups.

Neuro - aren't Big Brother Bryan's blue eyes actually contact lenses (sorry to burst that bubble!) (although of course I could be wrong).

I am afraid my muffins were a disaster. My own fault as I put them in little paper cases and they sort of splodged out rather than rose. I am not much of a baker. But if you don't try...(and DD seemed to like them anyway).

I don't think Sean did attack Patrick as that would be too obvious (although agree he is over-acting in prison). Unless tis a double twist or something. I had assumed 12-year-old chippy was also responsible simply because he has a gun and needs another story-line other than trying to shag 3 year old twin.

peanutbutter · 15/08/2007 21:07

claraq - what an annoyance about Woolworths, and now the muffins too! Hope you get sorted at Toys R Us.

I'm sorry, I should have said that they go into paper cases then into fairy cake tins. I did exactly the same thing when I first started trying out fairy cakes and muffins and mine splodged out everywhere too. Try again another day if you've got a fairy cake tin and more paper cases left.

If you like the proper high and proud muffin look then fill the cases right up to the top

I made my hazlenut chocolate topped ones for my friend and her little boy. They arrived. She is on Atkins and he'd brought his own selection of sweets to eat (. So the muffins stayed in their tin...

Skidaddle - I'm going to buy that baby name book I think as I keep thinking I've decided on a name and then think of a reason why it won't work - my most recent was that my "sperm donor" is German so decided that Eva might be a bit insensitive! Still like Eleanor/Elena tho. Anyway will come back to you again on name of book and author as have forgotten exactly myself!

Also, if anyone wants a great low fat blueberry muffin recipe...??

Macdoodle - I had my engagement ring made into a pendant. Didn't cost very much (about GBP200) and its beutiful with the huge diamond!

Bouncingturtle · 16/08/2007 06:40

Hello everyone.
I'm okay, counting the days to my scan. HAve had problems with my rught hip, keep getting painful stitches right above it, plus it is very stiff and sore getting out of bed, or getting up if I've been sat down along time, and I'm now walking like an arthritic 80yo! Used to be a fast walker but not any more.
Keep getting pains in my tum, like a dull muscle ache, gets it is babba making more room for his/her self - certinaly been kicking me lots lol. Anyone else like this or am I merely pathetic? Keep thinking if this is what I'm like at 21 weeks, what am I going to be like at 40 weeks!!!

Imawurzel · 16/08/2007 07:15

Had my scan yesterday. All went well, baby growing good.
We asked if she could see what it was and she said she thinks a girl cos she could see no boy bits buts not going to rule out a boy.
So I suppose we're none the wiser now.

I keep getting a stitch type ache in my left side. Odd. Normally only have that if i've just eaten and rushed off somewhere.

MotherofZ · 16/08/2007 08:12

Imawurzel - I've been getting exactly the same as well on the left hand side since quite early on the pregnancy. It comes and goes. Spoke to M/W about it - she mentioned it could be a pulled muscle under pressure from the stretching.

buzzybee · 16/08/2007 09:47

OK so Blueberry Muffins made healthy!

1.25 cups self-raising flour
1.5 cups unprocessed bran flakes
0.25 tsp salt
0.5 tsp cinnamon
0.5 cup sugar
1 cup blueberries, fresh or frozen
2 small mashed bananas
0.75 cup low fat milk
0.25 tsp baking soda
1 egg
2 Tb margarine
1 tsp vanilla essence

Preheat oven to 190 degrees Celsius. Lightly oil muffin tins. Place sifted flour, bran, salt, cinnamon, sugar, blueberries and mashed bananas into a bowl. In separate bowl or jug mix together milk, soda, egg, vanilla and melted marg. Add to other ingredients and mix until just combined. Spoon into muffin tins and bake for 18-20 mins until skewer inserted comes out clean. Makes 12.

yummy!

Mrswizz · 16/08/2007 10:23

Imawurzel and Bouncingturtle, I have these aches and pains too. Yesterday I'm sure he was growing, I felt so stretched I thought I was going to burst.

buzzybee · 16/08/2007 10:25

Oh and "Knocked Up" is a movie on new release here in NZ. May not have opened yet in the UK? Its got Catherine Heigl - the girl who plays Issy from Grey's Anatomy.

JARM · 16/08/2007 10:26

oooh girls, anyone who is expecting a girl and wants a virtually brand new pink winter coat from mothercare aged 3-6 months let me know!

We bought it for rebecca, she wore it 2 or 3 times, but because she had red hair the pink didnt look too good!

i have washed it, it is truly stunning, in perfect condition, so will send FFP to any of you lot x

mixedmama · 16/08/2007 10:29

Morning ladies,

Awen - seems like our theory about OJ and girls is wrong as i see you are expecting a little boy - congrats.

Imawurzel - congrats on you scan.

Bouncing - I am the same with aches and pains. I put it down to not being vbery active and frnakly a lazy cow before falling pregnant.

Re: pains on left side, i had these for ages and would wake up in the middle of night and have to be on a all fours until they went, mentioned to my midwife and also mentioned I had looked up round ligament paains - she just said yes yes, that happens. seem to have subsided now though and only get them very infrequently.
