Hey all... over here!!

peanutbutter · 15/08/2007 11:36

I'm also going to try some plain ones but with grated lemon rind in, then a mix of sugar and lemon juice drizzled on top before going in the oven. I'll let you know the results.

MotherofZ · 15/08/2007 11:37

OOOHHH that sounds so yummy
crap at baking so going out to get a muffin from Greggs in a bit...

mixedmama · 15/08/2007 11:42

You are completely obsessed with Greggs. Pull yourself together woman.

Mrswizz · 15/08/2007 12:07

Of course now we're all being blamed for eating junk food making us all have fat kids. No Greggs ladies, no muffins or we're terrible mothers. Grrr!

mixedmama · 15/08/2007 12:12

I think it is because everything is so genetically modified. I mean these days 12 years olds look like 16 year olds and that scares me.

dundeemarmalade · 15/08/2007 12:36

thanks for the recipe peanutbutter! glad your ds okay- hope he gets really better soon.
if it's got apple and nuts in does it count as health food? hope so.
RANT ALERT Dunno if genetic modification is so much to blame as a general lack of activity- i nearly always walk or cycle into town from our modern estate (about 3/4 of a mile) and i hardly EVER see anybody else walking in and out, yet the roads are always busy. one of our neighbours drives her kids to school, which is literally 750 yards from the end of our road. kids get kicked off the grassland behind our houses for playing football, and shouted at for cycling on the pavements when the roads are busy- hardly surprising if the population is getting lardier and lardier. RANT OVER

my brain can only cope with working in the mornings (the advantage of being working part-time and from home- disadvantage is haven't earned more than 6k pa for past five years) so i'll get baking this afternoon.

is anybody thinking of trying natal hypnotherapy out? surprise surprise no courses in our area (and they're WELL expensive anyway) but i got the 'pregnancy relaxation' cd in the post today- plan to try it out this afternoon. Blurb that came with it seems to promise all sorts of wonders- reduced labour time, reduced pain perception, fewer interventions etc. but i wonder if that's just because the people who pay for courses would feel a bit daft if they'd shelled out 300 quid for nothing. we shall see...

mixedmama · 15/08/2007 12:48

Goo dluck with that Dundee let us know if it has anything effect.

The things with the kids is not just that alot of them are obese, which clearly has alot to do with laziness and activity levels, but they actually look older, much taller, facial hair very early on, breasts etc. then there are things that they get up to .... make up etc (not bad i know but it makes me cringe when i see 12 yr olds with make up).

MotherofZ · 15/08/2007 12:55

lol at mixedmama - yes I defo deserve a loyalty card from Greggs with the amount of business I put their way. Actually during the day at work I eat loads of fruits so Greggs is my lunchtime treat.

MotherofZ · 15/08/2007 12:57

I think society is making our children grow up faster, which is sad, as they are loosing out on childhood.

Neuro · 15/08/2007 13:04

I have a colleague with a 13 yr old daughter who is not only beautiful, but positively adult in her body - height, breasts, womanliness, make up, appearance etc. Her mother allows her to go to Under 18 discos, in such miniscule amounts of clothing it really concerns me. This girl doesn't understand sexuality yet, let alone her own, and i feel it's quite naive of the mum to let her go to these things, but...she's not my kid and you can't go round telling people how to run their own families. I just feel sorry for the girl and think is she heading for teenage pregnancy and being trapped into the life her mother has already had, thus history repeating itself. There is such a massive difference between a 13 yr old and a nearly 18 yr old, it's quite scary thinking they are allowed to mix together.

Sorry, another Neuro rant!

MotherofZ · 15/08/2007 13:09

I think it is postive that we are aware of all these things and hopefully can give our children a good upbringing and future, as a result.

mixedmama · 15/08/2007 13:19

competely agree.

the worrying thing for me is that these kids are so intimidating (not all but a heavy proportion). I just wonder what goes through peoples minds when i see 7 yr old with mobiles.

I remember when i used to go to weddings and i always wanted my hairdresser to let me have a french pleat but she always said it was too old (she was our neighbour) and I always had a french plait and in hindsight and also when i go to weddingsnow and see littlle girls with grown up hair i just think how right she was.

I feel so happy that DD1 is into jeans and jumpers - she looks like a 14 year old should look - fashionable without flaunting her body. She does her make up (heavy on the eyeliner, emo-style!) and looks really good but she still looks her age. Having seen some of her friends, I feel very grateful. Not sure how DD2 will turn out, though, she's already pestering me for make up at 4!! (In the school hols I let her have some pale pink peel-off nail polish, and she wears clear lip balm to pretend it's lipstick but that's it!!)

mixedmama · 15/08/2007 13:31

That all sounds very sensible Housemum.

Out of interest do yyou let your 14 yr old have boyf.... I was never allowed boyf (not that that stopped me) but some of my 14 yr old friends at the time were allowed to have boyf stay over and stuff - not say it is wrong or anything, but just so different in contrast to what i was allowed to do.

MotherofZ · 15/08/2007 13:42

Was never allowed a BF too, but didn't stop me from seeing and marry my wonderful hubby!

Lizzer · 15/08/2007 13:46

Hey Peanut, sorry I didn't see your post about your awful evening, hope ds is on the mend soon.... Thanks for muffin recipe, have day off so will give them a try once I've gutted the entire house and pulled some weeds out of the garden!

claraq · 15/08/2007 14:12

Thanks for the muffin recipe peanutbutter - might give it a go this afternoon or tomorrow morning. Need something to calm me down as I ordered a toy kitchen from Woolworths for my DD's birthday which is in mid September and not only has it not turned up, but they have no trace of the order. Will check with credit card company to see if payment went through; however special offer now disappeared so back to square one (I think Toys R Us have similar special offer so bye bye Woolies, for EVER).

By the way talking about children looking older than their age, EastEnders is a bit scary - that little girl twin (Lucy?) used to be about 4; now suddenly she's running around with the chip shop boy pretending to be 18.....

dundeemarmalade · 15/08/2007 15:01

peanut- muffins are fab. am trying hard not to eat them all before dh gets home. thank you!

mixedmama · 15/08/2007 15:22

claraq - she is 13 and look at the stuff she is getting up to.

OP posts:
MotherofZ · 15/08/2007 15:35

oh my god - though she was older!
so who attacked Patrick then?

mixedmama · 15/08/2007 15:51

The one she works with in the chippy who is 18 but looks 5

OP posts:
Beanstermummy · 15/08/2007 16:56

is it my PG brian or didn't Patrick have a heart attack - but obviously was sort of concious enough to see Sean? Or did we actually get to know?

mixedmama · 15/08/2007 17:02

oh was it sean??? shows how much attention i am paying.

OP posts:
Neuro · 15/08/2007 17:02

hang on - are you saying the boy in the chippy attacked Patrick? I missed an episode so not sure. I know he's got a gun in his car.

mixedmama · 15/08/2007 17:12

Well that was what I thought, but honestly soemtimes ther eis so much going on in enders... i think it was actually sean... completely confused.
