Hey all... over here!!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
skidaddle · 09/08/2007 15:16

hi all,

congrats beckle and poppy on your scans. Beckle - they said exactly the same with my dd - they weren't sure but they thought it was a girl - and so she was. I think it is often hard to miss a boy depending on position. I quite liked sort of knowing but not really knowing - still a surprise on the day but gets your mind wondering about your daughter-to-be

claraq - I am also convinced I'm having twins even though I'm clearly not as two scans will verify. I am humongous compared to last time and also worry about how much bigger he's going to get. It probably just your muscles giving way more easily second time round though - maybe there will be less increase in size in the last couple of months

cazzybabs - saw your post on the cycling thread and am inspired! Though I'd have to stop at about 6 months but am now determined to keep going until birth! Although there are a LOT of hills where I live...

Have a great holiday suey2

cazzybabs · 09/08/2007 15:21

Ahh - I only have a railway bridge and a small hill to get up.

mixedmama · 09/08/2007 15:23

how about exercise bike... no chance of falling off. I have an onsite gym where i live so gonna have a go on the bike... i dont really exercise so just going to be gentle as i know you are not supposed to start something new when pregnant.

talking about issues with skin, my skin gets dry and flaky very quickly and find that I have to mositurise my face every 2-3 hrs especiallt the 'T-Zone area'

mixedmama · 09/08/2007 15:38

Do you know my pregnancy brain is such that I actually forget to cream my face in the morning and lots of other random stuff. Weird.

OP posts:
skidaddle · 09/08/2007 15:47

My preghead made me forget that I had a mw appointment this pm, cyled 4 miles into work, remembered, cycled 4 miles back - and got there in time! Then four miles back to work again. And another four miles home at 6pm - too much bloody exercise for someone who is 5 months gone

mixedmama · 09/08/2007 15:50

PMSL skidaddle. i couldnt do that in non-preg state.

OP posts:
skidaddle · 09/08/2007 16:09

Have yopu got those cross trainer machines in your gym mixedmama - think they are pretty good when you're pg as you don't bounce up and down and they aren't bad for your joints (I think) - mind you I suppose you could say the same of an exercise bike (preghead again, I love blaming the fact that I'm a dozy cow on being pregnant )

Caz10 · 09/08/2007 16:20

suey2 - that was more or less the route for our honeymoon - it was amazing!!! I'm so jealous of you, desparate to go back. I used to work in Mass. during the summers when I was a student and still really miss it. It's a great area for getting a bit of everything - city/beach/country all in one trip! You will LOVE it!

think I am depressed now...

mixedmama · 09/08/2007 16:22

I always feel like i will fall off the cross trainer. the bikes have a back rest so it is kinda lazy exercise... but as i said wasnt very active before so dont want to over exert myself.

OP posts:
skidaddle · 09/08/2007 16:34

ooh yes bikes with backreats are great - you can read a book while you do it (although might forget to keep moving feet...)

Caz10 -did you go to Amherst in Mass at any point? I am supposed to be going there at some point to do some research and hear it is really nice?

skidaddle · 09/08/2007 16:34

back rests, not backreats

suey2 · 09/08/2007 16:34

thanks caz10! Even more excited now.

Ambi · 09/08/2007 17:41

Feel really bad for the itches/rashes/swollenness here, I've not really had any symptoms(YET) - dreading awful 40hour labour to make up for it. Don't even feel preggers really now, though the expanding bump begs to differ, my bump's really silly though, it's bigger at the top! Blaming the baby pushing organs upwards and outwards (not the food I'm eating). Although am starting to get worried that I'll never lose any baby weight.

Loucee · 09/08/2007 18:53

Suey2 your holiday sounds amazing, hope you have a fantastic time.
Afraid I'm not your due date buddy, I'm officially due on 17th!! Never know though, I might be early - hee hee here's hoping!

Ambi I was like that first time round, had to keep reminding myself I was pregnant! Enjoy it!

Can anyone tell me how to cook soft fishfingers? I don't cook them usually but have a real craving for white bread sandwich with fishfingers (have to be nice and soft) with cucumber and salad cream. I cooked them a few months ago and the coating was all hard.

Off to the physio tomorrow about bad back and stomach muscles - will report any good exercises they recommend.

just adding myself..!

skidaddle I have never been to Amherst itself but have been to a couple of towns quite close by, including Northampton which was lovely if you get the chance. And the area is so nice that I can't imagine Amherst will be anything other than gorgeous! It is a college town which always means there are fab bars/shops/eating places.

suey2 if you like lobster you must also try a crab sandwich while you are in Maine - YUM! With mayo and lemon juice - goodness knows what the pregnancy police would make of it.

Had MW yesterday but nothing really to report, just that everything going ok, and it is always nice to hear the heartbeat!

suey2 · 10/08/2007 09:28

crab sandwich- yum!! Don't know if my PG fascist DH will allow the mayo but I am allowed the crab in his eyes. Bring it on!

mixedmama · 10/08/2007 10:40

Did anyone see Britains Youngest Brides last night??

Going to do my pregnancy police bit... but one of the girls was 8 months pregnant with twins and had a glass of champagne more than once and a fag in hand!!! Dont get me wrong it was her wedding day a glass of bubbly isnt the end of the world, but pllleeeeaaaseee.

OP posts:
MotherofZ · 10/08/2007 11:29

I saw that programme and was wondering exactly the same thing. Maybe that's the only alcohol she's had during her pregnancy??

What did you think of that woman wearing the enourmous (sorry if I've spelt it wrong) wedding dress? It made me laugh when she couldn't get in the car. What about the girl who had an arranged marriage? She seemed happy - but I couldn't help thinking there might have been an element of parental pressure.

mixedmama · 10/08/2007 11:38

The large dress one was funny as everything was just soooo tacky... did you see the stars and stuff on the front of the dress and everyone had their breasts out even the little girls....

The arranged marriage one was quite strange. I actually think parents playing some sort of role is a good idea if the child is willing. But, she was 10 when they got engaged!! That isnt choice. And, if I was the man i would have run a mile when they showed me a 10 year old, he was 20 at the time. It was interesting the way the mother justified arranged marriage as allowing her daughter to lawfully be like her friends who had boyfriends... I think she was a bit clueless, as having a boyfriend at 16 and a husband from back home are two very different things. at that age i feel that must have been some parental pressure....

OP posts:
Beanstermummy · 10/08/2007 11:54

had a laugh at the huge dress myself too. Does anyone else find that even crap TV surfing has changed since PG - used to love watching Foody shows but now can't be bothered - just randomly flic until DH gets so hacked off he steals the remote back!! But - thursday night Sky plus will have done it's bit and so House and Greys Anatomy tonight for me

Ambi - as for bump higher up - exactly the same last time (DD) and this one - all my podgy stuff (well fat to be honest!) seems to be being pushed up and out with harder bump lower down - all V amusing, but DH did inform me yesterday that I was looking less huge than last time - sort of compliment I think . Aim is not to top out at more than with DD - put on over 4 1/2 st and didn't lose nearly 2 of them so reckon it's a good one to aim for - then roll on hungry little button for BF (although DD fed like a little beast for 5 months and it didn't seem to help the weight loss - or was that the jaffa cakes?????)

Nbg · 10/08/2007 11:58

Hi all

Just had MW here for my 24 week appt. All ok, heartbeat nice and strong and measuring at 23cm so all good.

We were discussing what was needed for the home birth.
Got to find some waterproof sheets from somewhere, old towels and some kind of padding for the floor incase I decide I want to be down there

Neuro · 10/08/2007 12:02

HELLO EVERYONE!

I had my 20 week scan today, and was lovely to see v lively healthy bubba. BUT v v annoying, the unit's policy, and this is since my last 12 wk scan, is to not tell you the sex. So i feel a tad disappointed AND the sonographer was a bit bloody prim. She said i'll let you know when we get to the femur and then you can have a good look. So i tried but with all the moving about and us saying is that a leg or something else? To which sonograher just kept staring at the screen saying nothing. I WISH hospitals across the country would have one policy only. Most annoying. Anyway, the fact he or she is happy has overridden all that. How amazing to see the 4 chambers of the heart pumping away. It was kicking me quite a bit which the sonographer pointed out but i can hardly feel it, so i guess my tummy muscles are great. shame can't say the same for the backs of my thighs!!!
Ooh and i got my hair done yesterday and have been getting wolf whistles. Amazing.
Rah!
EAting a bit fat sandwich and not working today. Hurray!
Hope rest of you are well and happy and SUey2 enjoy your hols, it sounds brilliant. I am most envious...
