Also this temp is thinking of applying for the now available perm position.

Hmmmm. Well apart from 'borrowing' £50 is she generally nice? Could she have been totally skint and embarrassed about it and so on being caught out tried to make a joke out of it? I mean, you'd have to be pretty daft not to realise that what she's done is a real no no. Is she respectful in other ways? Will she make a good colleague?

Also would she really be considered for a permanent role if she's only passing through?

Be funny if she read this!

mixedmama · 08/08/2007 13:32

Dont say that Neuro!!

[mixedmama looks around suspiciously]

Well both her and I are temps and i have been spoken to about going perm but obviously we came to the mutual agreement that it wasnt feesible due to being pregnant etc.

She is pulled up alot as she is very brash and often quite rude on the phones and our manager actually physically leaves her desk and comes over to talk to her about it.

She winds most people up in some way most days.

There is potential that she will get the job as they wont have to retrain anyone.

The problem is after all that happened one of the ladies said to her that she knew she was late because she stayed at her boyf the other night and turned up an hour late without calling or anything then bragged to the receptionist that she had lied and it got back. She was really worried about manager finding out about this, but not the money thing.

suey2 · 08/08/2007 13:37

report her. You don't want to work with someone like that, and there is a process whereby she will get her say. It is theft, a friend of mone was sacked for illadvisedly putting an iou in the petty cash one friday night. What this girl has done is far worse, and worse, she seems to have no remorse. Don't feel like you are snitching, it could be your wallet next if she is that lacking in scruples

Neuro · 08/08/2007 13:40

Oh God. She sounds awful. If that's her on her best behaviour, which as a temp one should be, then erm, get rid of her! I can't believe she would be taken on. But then some things about office life don't surprise me. YOU just need to be careful as if you reported it, it might be interpreted as you being annoyed or nose out of joint for not being considered as you're preggers. Altho that IS discrimination Mixedmama! Anyway...

arggh i dunno.

I'm going out for a bit to buy chocolate and look at hair magazines. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Neuro · 08/08/2007 13:41

Yeah Suey2 is right, and doesn't waffle like me!

mixedmama · 08/08/2007 13:49

Well, since i am temping too the other ladies dont expect me to be the one to do it anyway.

OP posts:
MotherofZ · 08/08/2007 13:56

taking money without permission is wrong!

MotherofZ · 08/08/2007 13:59

defo report her!

suey2 · 08/08/2007 14:03

if you are worried, try and do it without the other workers seeing. Noone needs to know it is you, particularly if you fear a backlash. I don't know why the woman whose money it was doesn't complain, though!

claraq · 08/08/2007 14:13

The woman whose money it is should decide whether to report her or not. If it were me I would ask for money back immediately and if she could not get it (she could always borrow from a friend surely?) then I would report her for theft as that is what it is.

Hopefully then she won't get the perm job!

I did a lot of temping in my time, in NZ and in London, and one rule of temping was always to be as nice and well behaved as possible or you might not get any more jobs.

Neuro · 08/08/2007 14:22

Exactly.

She could borrow it off her boyfriend. She sound like a witch.

mixedmama · 08/08/2007 14:49

The woman whose money it is has resigned and since she is on sabbatical does not actually have to be here. Everyone else is now sayin they dont want to work with someone like that.

OP posts:
Neuro · 08/08/2007 15:52

what about typing up an anonymous note and leaving it on manager's desk?!!

mixedmama · 08/08/2007 15:54

Yeah, but kind of feel that it should be one of the perm staff that actually does the reporting. would be happy to corroborate should it be necessary.

OP posts:
suey2 · 08/08/2007 15:58

yes you are a temp after all! And you won't be having to work with her when you go on mat leave. I see your point. It depends how irritating you personally find her and how closely you have to work with her.

mixedmama · 08/08/2007 16:00

we work on switchboard so all in each others pockets.... drives me a little round the bend sometimes, but as you said i just look at it as a temp measure so i guess it is not a big deal for me. If i was perm i wouldnt want to work with her.

OP posts:
Housemum · 08/08/2007 16:08

Mixedmama - definitely report what's happened, she might get taken on full time and think it's OK to "borrow" anything she can as no-one said anything last time. How obvious would it be if you told your boss? Can you get to talk to them without everyone seeing? If you are in an open office you could always ask for a quiet chat about maternity questions, then when you go into a side office tell boss what it's really about. The best way would be a quiet word, along the lines of "I'm not trying to cause trouble but was concerned and thought you ought to be aware - tell him/her what happened, and that temp says they will pay the other lady on Friday - then boss is aware, they can decide whether to take action now or to see if temp actually pays up.

becklespeckle · 08/08/2007 18:04

I would tell your manager or one of the permanent staff should. I also think the manager should be aware that none of the perm staff really want to work with her as that may also affect whether they offer her a permanent position or not.
Scan went well today and there were no problems seen (phew!). Radiographer had a look to see which flavour we were having but baby had its little legs crossed! She said that although she couldn't be certain because of legs being crossed it looks like it a girl! DH is very very pleased and I am quite shocked as I thought it would be a boy - obviously there is still a chance of that but baby looks nice and healthy so I am well chuffed too!

mixedmama · 08/08/2007 18:05

Congrats Bespeckle.

I think the perm staff are just trying to decide how to go about it.

peanutbutter · 08/08/2007 19:28

congratulations Beckle!

Skidaddle I liked your advice re: visitors lavishing attention on ds when they first arrive - very good thought.

Neuro - you've sold me. I'll put it on my Amazon wishlist now so i don't forget it.

Mixedmama - that girl sounds like a nightmare to work with, esp if you're in each others' pockets like you describe. I'm sure the perm staff will come up with a good way to address it. Taking money without permission is obviously plainly wrong and if she could do that unapologetically, then what on earth else will she get up to...?

cazzybabs · 08/08/2007 21:45

Mixedmama - what a nutter! Sounds very strange to me.

I am still soo tired. Today I cycled into town, dd2 and I went to the park, cycled home again and needed a sleep by 4 for an hour. Erghhh - thank god for summer holidays, but how will I cope when I go back to work and can't have my sleep in the afternoon! I keep thinking I will start to do some excersie again, but I end up sooo tired in the afternoons - very annoying.

And I must start my pelvic floor excersies. I manage about 20 a day - but aren't you supposed to do about a billion a day? It is definalty not what it used to be, esp. when I sneeze!

sarahjane22 · 09/08/2007 07:59

hello peeps, how are we all??

MotherofZ · 09/08/2007 08:11

hi sarahjane - I see you're an early bird like me!

Cazzybabe - i thought you shouldn't cycle when you are preggers??

Beckle - congratulations on the scan

Hello everyone else - can't believe I am chirpy today even though DD has a temp and kept me up half the night. Tiredness will prob kick in later.
