Hey all... over here!!

peanutbutter · 06/08/2007 16:37

Ralph! OMG yuck. I'd completely forgotten about good old Judy Blume

When I was about 11 I read a copy of Lace by Shirley Conran. God what an eye opener that was.

Caz10 · 06/08/2007 16:46

PMSL at Ralph!!

I used to love all of her books, also Sweet Valley High as someone else mentioned. But my absolute fave was the Anne of Green Gables series...Gilbert Blythe...swoon! (although he was such a let down in the TV movie).

Nowdays I read everything I can get my hands on, and selfishly am worried about not having time to read when LO arrives! .

What did the HP readers think of the very last book? I haven't read it yet but have enjoyed the others, I didn't think I would and was pleasantly surprised.

Just popping out to meet my friend who is 35 wks pg - will report back any horror stories of the 3rd trimester hee hee!

claraq · 06/08/2007 16:49

Another book fan here - am currently reading The House at Riverton which has started out brilliantly. Got an excellent review from Richard and Judy Just finished Harry Potter which I could not put down. It is my birthday today (39 - ) and I treated myself with an afternoon of watching the new HP film at the cinema while DD was at childminders.

Skidaddle - think I will just continue slowly with the potty training and see what happens. Perhaps in Sept/Oct time I will have another real crack at it if I can find a week when we don't have much on. Otherwise I am worried I will have to try and potty train when I have a tiny little baby to cope with as well.

claraq · 06/08/2007 16:50

Caz10 - just saw your message which x'd with mine - I thought the last HP was excellent, easily the best of all. Tied up all loose ends and explained everything although I had to concentrate! It also would have helped if I had skimmed the previous book first as I could not remember who half the characters were. Maybe that is down to pregnancy brain though?

mixedmama · 06/08/2007 16:52

happy birthday claraq - dh bday today too. he is being very negative - i text him to say hows bday boy qand he said "old and weak, old and weak" sucj a drama queen.

suey2 · 06/08/2007 16:55

skidaddle- wasn't holden caulfield a deeply disturbed little boy? Would you really want to name your ds after him?

claraq · 06/08/2007 16:56

OOOh I wonder if your DH is as strong minded and opiniated as me?
And how does he feel being born on the anniversary of the day a nuclear bomb was dropped on Hiroshima!! It's also Geri Ginger Spice's birthday!!! (For what it's worth)....
Are you celebrating? We're going out for a meal later as a friend has kindly offered to babysit.

cazzybabs · 06/08/2007 17:04

I have just finished HP - not as good as the others but still enjoyable and tied up lots of lose ends.

OHHHH and I have found drinlable non-alcoholic beer (well it has 0.5% which I think makes all the difference). It is from Waitrose.

skidaddle · 06/08/2007 17:06

mixedmama - your dh sounds just like my dad - "I am an old man, an old, weak man" - at least he really is quite old though!!

happy birthday claraq - enjoy your meal out, what kind of food are you having?

suey2 - no, I don't think he was deeply disturbed, I think he just had a very unusual and lovely way of looking at the world - do you remember how upset he was about where the ducks would go in winter when the lake froze over? I love that. He was a bit unhappy though I'll give you..

thelady · 06/08/2007 18:47

(puts barmaid's pinny on)

AF beer which gets good reactions from our punters:
Holsten Pils Acohol Free (silver label) which is completely indistinguishable from the real stuff

I'm told that Furstenburg AF is also good, but haven't tried it.

Do not try Kaliber - it's minging!

Lizzer · 06/08/2007 18:58

PMSL at Ralph, my mum banned it but I read it anyway I'm sure the rude bit started at page 64 but I might not have that good a memory! Oh and I remember 'Lace' too peanutbutter.

Mad4girls - just seen your post, so its a boy yes?! how exciting for you, you'll have to change your mn name though

Happy birhday claraq, have a nice meal out

On the low alc front I'm loving tesco's own low alc (0.5) cider! It tastes just like those cider flavoured lollies you could get years ago...

Hi all

Had my 20wk scan tonight and all is well with the baby. I was so tempted to find out the sex but DH was adamant he didn't want to so I respected that.

MotherofZ · 07/08/2007 08:23

Happy Birthday Claraq.
HP ending - I thought it was a bit rubbish. Would have been nice to mention what the main characters were doing (i.e jobs etc), but I have read an interview on the web somewhere were JK Rowling gives an interview tying up all the loose ends.

the-leaky-cauldron.org/2007/7/30/j-k-rowling-web-chat-transcript

buzzybee · 07/08/2007 08:29

Ohh Claraq - Anne of GG! I read those books so often my mum had to ban them! But did you ever read Anne's House of Dreams? - after she was married and deadly boring, such a let down...

Got another appointment in the post for a follow up scan on 26 Sept when will be 27 weeks. Can't say I'm looking forward to it that much.

suey2 · 07/08/2007 08:47

hey motherofZ don't you think the last chapter was only written so that there would be no pressure for another book? whether written by her or someone else? I really enjoyed it overall, but thought the last chapter was superfluous.

Bit of a shock this morning. I don't know if anyone else has a mythical weight they don't like to exceed, but mine is 12st and i hit it today! I know it is completely insane and that i have to exceed it, but it feels very weird doing so. Maybe it is a first timer thing. Peanut much more wriggly now and even DH is now convinced he can feel the kicks

insywinsyspider · 07/08/2007 09:20

20 wk scan yesterday and all is good - better than ds actually because the kidneys were fine too so no more scans needed, no evidence of more bleeding and my placenta is well out of the way so still planning for the home birth

added myself to the list but resisted finding out flavour, dh and I had a good peer at the screen though, reckon maybe a boy but that could have been a foot or the umbilical cord has anyone looked back at the chinese gender predictor to see if it worked for them in predicting the sex?? we're going to have a lot of fun guessing for the next 19-21 weeks!

right off to read the rest of these messages, its like book club here, I'm reading HP book 6 again as I can't remember it and since I haven't got round to book 7 yet I thought I'd prolong the pleasure of reading something easy on my brain

mixedmama · 07/08/2007 09:39

Morning ladies,

Claraq - am pretty sure that DH doesnt know who shares his bday but will be sharing the Hiroshima fact. We didnt really do anything as he was working till 8. I bought him the first part of Prison Break Series two so he has been watching them back to back. As for being opinionated / strong minded we are both quite like that - it is my birthday next week so both Leos so you can imagine what it can be like in our house.

Buzzy - fingers crossed for your scan, sure it will be fine.

Suey2 - since i hadnt yet managed to lose DS1 weight am not really putting pressure on myself at the minute and just hoping to really committing to losing after this baby.

Question for you all. Yesterday I had the most uncomfortable pains all day from just below my thighs all the way to my shoulders. It felt like my whole body was being stretched, really quite painful, could not get comfortable in any position, was sick constatly and so strongly that I actually fell over in the toilet (not severely as I was already bent over the loo) pumping head and felt like i was going to faint. Has anyone else had this... the pains were just so weird like nothing i have ever felt.

Thanks for all your happy birthday messages. Had a lovely evening yesterday - we just went to a local pub which they have refurbished really nicely (and don't you love the fact you can sit in pubs now without the smell of smoke?). I had cod and chips so nothing very exotic and was too full for a pud - I guess there is less room in there now! But then we went to another pub for another drink and it was so civilised just sitting there chatting just like real people

Mixedmama - yes I can imagine what your house would be like with two Leos. Luckily for me DH and DD both Virgos so they are a calming influence (and DH likes housework...) I am afraid I can't help with those pains you describe - could it be something to do with a trapped nerve (sorry that is a hopeless stab in the dark really...).

Inseywinsey - good news on your scan. It's always reassuring to get a good result.

I have seen a few comments on here about kidneys. I am no expert but my friend across the road's son (born coincidentally on same day as my DD) has a problem with his kidney, I think it means one of them doesn't work and he has had to take antibiotics from birth. HOWEVER he is a very happy, lively, healthy little boy and it doesn't seem to be interfering in his development at all. HTH.

Speaking of star signs what is the go with Dec babies does anyone know? My Mum is Capricorn and my Dad is Sag - and given I don't speak to my Dad anymore I guess I'd rather have the Capri (after 23 Dec I think so am in with a chance!) but probably shouldn't stereotype based on a sample of one...any Sagis out there? What are the classic characteristics? I'm a Scorpio.

mixedmama · 07/08/2007 11:07

My mums a sagi and my dad is cap both lovely. my bro is a scorpio and lets just say has his moments.... altho love him to bits.
