Cazzy I have no idea what you'd say. You could look on a bereavement website. I have a college chum who had twins, and then one night when they were about 5 months old she went in to tuck in/have a look and the little boy was dead. Doctors still dont' know why. Terribly sad.

Mixedmama aww poor you. It's not that far away honest . It seems like only a month or so i was sitting at home telling my flatmate that i was 6 weeks pregnant, and now it's nearly 20. How many weeks are you now?

peanutbutter · 06/08/2007 14:38

London's on my mental wishlist. Just in the middle of Barbara Kingsolver's Animal Vegetable Miracle.

I'm a bit sad when it comes to books - can't bear to be parted with ones i've even only half-enjoyed, and end up reading the same ones over and over. Also a bit to admit that i look on my favourites as friends.

I do have real human friends though.

Honestly.

skidaddle · 06/08/2007 14:43

cazzybabs, just saw your friend's post as well - she sounds so strong, made me literally cry in the middle of my office

thanks also for the potty training advice, like the no pants idea, and they do say cloth nappied babies train sooner - can feel the wetness i suppose. but on the other hand are used to the wetness so won;t mind it... when you say you trained yours late - what sort of age were they?

mixedmama, poor you - at least you will have exciting news when the rest of us are in that awful nothing-else-to-look-forward-to-until-the-birth stage!

re work - I am applying for a part-time research job after ds is born (how funny to be calling him ds!) - will definitely not go back full-time but don't know if I have the immense reserves of patience required to be a full-time mum..

congrats on scan dundee - our baby had huge ears too! I'm sure it is the sign of great things (think good hearing, not Prince Charles...)

mixedmama · 06/08/2007 14:44

Peanut completely identify with that. I am soooo sad when it comes to books.

I am just the same with books Peanutbutter, DH can't understand why I keep them or re-read them!

mixedmama · 06/08/2007 15:02

or buy more...

Neuro · 06/08/2007 15:06

Peanut I TOTALLY agree with you. I have 2 heaving bookshevles sat next to each other and all along the top of each is a massive row of about 30 books i have yet to read. Last year, very bizarrely, I developed a sort of book buying OCD. I'd rush home with a new book in a new bag and have a good look (and um, a sniff of the new pages ahem) and place it in the row of where i think i might read it. Have had to stop myself.

Oooh have you read the Rabbit series by John Updike? I think J D is def in my top 5 authors.

Can we have a Mumsnet Antenatal Clubs Book Club?!!!!

Neuro · 06/08/2007 15:07

And you have to keep them!! Is your husband mad?!!

mixedmama · 06/08/2007 15:11

you guys sound so intellectual with your books, I like nothing better than a chick flick....something not to complicated to read at night after a long day!

mixedmama · 06/08/2007 15:17

i do have my fair share of Jenny colgan that have me in hysterics and my faves from the old days but dont have any anymore and cannot justify buying is a good old Mills and Boon soemtimes. Such an easy uncomplicated read. Love it.

skidaddle · 06/08/2007 15:21

motherofZ!!

Must admit I love a good read and would love to call my baby after a character in a book I loved but they all have rubbish names!! Loved Holden(Catcher in the Rye) but hate the name, also LOVED Heathcliff from Wuthering heights but can you imagine calling your son heathcliff (no offence to any heathcliffs but I doubt there are any). My friend is called Lizzie after Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice because her mum was reading it when preg, makes a bit of an ordinary name so cool (again no offence to any Lizzies!!)

becklespeckle · 06/08/2007 15:26

I love a good read too and will read just about anything. Really like Jane Austen, her books are fab, also Harry Potter books and quite a big fan of fantasy books, like chick-lit and trashy stuff too - as I said, I will read just about anything!

Neuro · 06/08/2007 15:39

oooh yeah i'm a right intellectual. ha ha. actually i do like a 'good' book, but i also love Jackie Collins (best sex education ever, but then real teenage sex life a TOTAL let down !). Going to read Jordan's book next week when i've finished this properly written one.

X

MotherofZ · 06/08/2007 15:42

finished harry potter last week too and reading chick flick by Chris Manby. Gosh yes, I remember the Mills and Boons phase I went through, as well as Jackie Collins! lol .

Oooh what did you guys read when you were teenagers? Does anyone remember Sweet Valley High, Sweet Dreams and Point Horror? The Judy Bloom book 'Forever' was doing the rounds when I was at School. We were all shocked by the contents!

mixedmama · 06/08/2007 15:44

Oh My God, Judy Blume... yep Forever was our guide.

OP posts:
skidaddle · 06/08/2007 15:46

oh my God I remember that book Forever - didn't he call his willy some ridiculous name? We all had the page numbers of the 'rude bits' memorised and used to pass it round Chemistry class, oh the good old days...

MotherofZ · 06/08/2007 15:51

I think it was Raplh , can't believe I remembered that. Actaully we used to pass it around our Maths classes...looking back those days make me laugh.

mixedmama · 06/08/2007 15:52

i cant actually remember any details i just remember it being passed around all the girls tho for sure.

OP posts:
becklespeckle · 06/08/2007 15:53
