hello everyone
congrats to all that have had scans, good luck to those that have had slightly upsetting ones, and good luck also to those still to have them. That includes me. 10 days to go.
It is my first baby and I AM SO EXCITED IT'S MAD. I keep waking up and just lying there saying I AM PREGNANT and i still can't qutie believe it.
I've put my 12 weeks scan on my profile, but it seems a bit out of date though now!
I think i have experienced 1 kick and was half asleep, but since then only tickling throughout the day - expecially half an hour after i've had my 1 daily real coffee.
Well I am blooming in terms of hair and skin etc, which is lovely, but unfort am also experiencing a hormone overload and have felt a bit down last few days for no reason at all. Probably just worrying about stuff next year, whether to rent my flat out, stay with family for 6 months and get to save a fair bit of £. Family are nice and chilled out so woudn't be a big deal.
Think i've also picked up a tummy bug and have had some bad tummy aches. Quite nice knowing now the difference that it's my intestines and not womb.
I definitely look pregnant now. Saw a bunch of friends at weekend and they said i look slimmer but with all the fat sticking out the front! Think it means bloating gone down.
I feel really exhausted this last week, so maybe lots of growing is going on? Am usually veggie but been craving and eating quite a bit of meat. Who knows?
Oh and headaches too. Anyone getting a few of them? THEY ARE DOING MY HEAD IN. Thank god the sun has come out otherwise think i'd be going a bit psycho...
can't wait to find out what flavour i'm having...tick tock
Is anyone bored of being pregnant yet? I am. I'm not bothered about getting attention, just want the baby to come SOON.

MIMICAKEY - my mum said the man HAS to be there to witness the woman's serious hardwork, but that the man should remain up the woman's head end!

mixedmama · 31/07/2007 17:02

I get headaches with pregnancy as well Neuro, but i do suffer with migraines and with DS I actually had to stay in hospital overnight as i had a really bad one where i lost the ability to write and speak, something to do with hormones and already suffering.

this time i get regular tension headaches and have had three migraines, one which went on for two days!! hopefully they will get better as pregnancy progresses i think it is to do with nausea ad being sick aswell.

I suppose maybe they are just saying it was a lot worse than they imagined and trying to prepare him - yes mixedmama, in that great macho style!

Neuro, you are brilliant! I want mine now too.

mixedmama · 31/07/2007 17:03

Neuro - my DH would never stay at the head end, he wants to see it all happen - he did with DS and still talks about how amazing it was to this day.

suey2 · 31/07/2007 17:05

hey mimicakey, DH and i have discussed this. He dreads it, but feels it is the least he can do to be there, but that he is going nowhere near the business end!
I would rather he was pacing up and down outside than being worried about him as i am in the throes of labour! So we will probably start out with him in the room, but I will send him out if he starts getting too tetchy.
I have this silly idea that since my mum had such easy labours, i will too: particularly as i am tall with child bearing hips !

mimicakey · 31/07/2007 17:08

I don't know how it will work out on the day but at the mo I think I want to just speak to him and have him deal with all the other people. I'm sure he'll stay at the head end! But that's fine; I'll be up at that end too!!

Neuro · 31/07/2007 17:11

gosh Mixedmama that migraine sounds awful. I used to get them, but they stopped in my mid 20's.
I'm glad you just said that Suey2 as my baby's father was asking recently what's going to happen, and i said well my best friend will be with me til the real action starts and then i said i suppose you could come in for the real labour part. But truth is, i dont' think i want anyone in there. they'll just annoy me and i'll want to get on with it.
If i had my way i'd go off to a nice forest and do it in a bush or something with no one around!!!!
Just call me wolfgirl.
I swear a headache has just started because i wrote about them. They always appear in the afternoon.

Neuro · 31/07/2007 17:14

OH. Just realised that they feel quite migraine-y AND they make me feel sick. hmmmmmmm strokes chin

mixedmama · 31/07/2007 17:22

Lol..

Neuro I would just say yes he can come but let him know that on the day you may just change your mind, you may even want him or your BF their till the end... makes sure everyone knows you may not stick to anything you say and go with the flow.

he may be useful for getting glasses of water and being a general dogsbody.

OP posts:
Neuro · 31/07/2007 17:31

good idea, he can be my dogsbody. Might ask him to go on a massage course at local college!
Yes, dogsbody. Excellent.

mixedmama · 31/07/2007 17:37

I love the glee in your posts in relation to your babys father. Fantastic.

I really PMSL when i see those diagrams in the books with the woman in labour, squatting, with their arms around their partner- DH is such a weed he would collapse!

Housemum · 31/07/2007 20:13

hmmm - just imagining DH holding up 12 stone plus of screaming, pushing madwoman. Not a pretty sight...

ozzymoomoo · 31/07/2007 21:13

Hi Poppy, I am 18+2 wks with my 2nd and I haven't felt anything either. Sometimes I look pregnant but most the time I just look plain old fat so am desperate for something to happen!!! Haven't got next scan for another 2 weeks so feeling very run down at mo!!! Don't think I'm 'blooming' yet as skin looks crap and hair feels dry although everyone saying I look well... Think they're just being polite....

buzzybee · 01/08/2007 07:37

Had scan today and the good news is that its a girl!

However they spotted 2 soft markers for Down Syndrome (dilated kidney - renal pelvis diltatation to be precise) and slightly less pronounced nasal bone. So am back to having to decide whether or not to have the amnio - except they want to know by tomorrow since its illegal to terminate after 20 weeks and I'm 19+5 already!!

Neither are very strong predictors of Downs Syndrome but they are associated, and the Ob was really pushing me to have the amnio given the 1:21 nuchal fold result.

My instinct is not to since I really can't imagine terminating at this point and they didn't find any really bad abnormalities like heart defects...

buzzybee · 01/08/2007 07:47

Just scrolled back and realised this is the same problem picked up on your scan Lizzer - hope the Newcastle scan went well.

suey2 · 01/08/2007 08:31

poor you buzzybee! What a horrible decision- just when you thought you were out of the woods, too

peanutbutter · 01/08/2007 09:04

buzzybee I will be thinking of you.

skidaddle · 01/08/2007 10:16

buzzybee - congrats on having a girl and also about kidney etc. What an awful decision for you to have to make. If you are pretty sure you wouldn't terminate then maybe don't have it? Chances still are that she will be fine but it must be so worrying all the same.

Congrats to peanut and fifi - all boys together

Thinking of you buzzy and lizzer - let us know how you get on xx

Neuro · 01/08/2007 10:36

Yes Buzzy good luck with your thoughts etc. Gosh you just never know do you?

Suey2 what does PMSL mean? i'm taking it as Pee My Self!

BecklePhoenixBird · 01/08/2007 10:48

Morning all!
Mimicakey, my DH said that being at the birth was the most amazing (and grossest!) thing he'd ever seen. He is a very squeamish type but he watched everything the first time. With DS2 he stayed more to the head end (with the odd peep down to see baby's head) and did not look at the placenta and said it was a great experience. There is no doubt in his mind he will be there for no 3 too. Tell your DH to ignore his mates!
Buzzybee, congrats on your girl but at the decision you now have to make. It is great that they didn't pick up any heart defects or other major abnormalities! As for the amnio, if you are sure you would keep your little girl whether she had downs or not then I personally would not have it done. Obviously with your nuchal and the soft markers there is a chance (although also a bigger chance she will not have downs) but that means you have time to find out loads of info and prepare for the possibility of an extra special baby.

suey2 · 01/08/2007 10:53

neuro- is piss myself laughing! Got it from the acronym list

buzzybee · 01/08/2007 11:07

Thanks suey, peanutbutter, skidaddle, neuro, beckle I guess I'm going to sleep on it over night but I'm pretty sure I won't be having the amnio.

The renal dilation is found in about 3% of babies at 20 weeks and 25% of DS babies so there is a correlation.

I can't help but see her as a beautiful little person now and that's it really.

Its funny but I took DD to see my grandma's grave last weekend. It was a beautiful day and my DD was so lovely about it. We were walking back to the car reading the names on the graves and I read out the name Elanor and my DD said "I want to call the baby Elanor" so maybe she will be baby Nell.

BecklePhoenixBird · 01/08/2007 11:12

What a lovely post Buzzybee, she is a very lucky little thing to have you as her Mum. Elanor is a beautiful name too, one of the only girls names that DH and I have agreed on so far!
