I couldn't see a new thread so started one, hope that's OK.

Massive congratulations @swiftfox. So exciting to have our first baby!

Anyone else STILL PREGNANT?! I'm wondering whether I'll still be waiting into July Grin 41weeks today, mw appointment at 9.30, I might accept a sweep to see what's going down there.

Congratulations to all who have had their babies and are onto the next set of worries!

Heyha · 29/06/2019 07:33

DD1 finally arrived on Weds night. Still stuck in postnatal ward (a special kind of torture listening to three other babies as well as trying to get the hang of your own!) Hopefully home today. Currently battling the need for constant feeding and cuddling but just doing it for now, hoping to try to figure things out better once we're in our own home. Episiotomy is hard to manage when you're trapped on a ward too #ouch

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 29/06/2019 07:53

Congrats @heyha and OUCH re episiotomy

So who is still pregnant then? DD is six weeks on Monday and this past week has been a giant leap in my feeling less overwhelmed, blue and stressed. Those first weeks are hard. Hard, hard, hard.

WeeBean · 29/06/2019 09:51

So much to catch up on! Congratulations to all those with new babies! Hope you're all doing ok and any sleeping/feeding/after pain issues settle down!

Rory is 11 days old and is a wee dream. He gets cranky when he has wind but apart from that nothing seems to bother him. He had a bit of jaundice which thankfully didn't need treatment and he's got drops for gunky eyes. He's up to 7lbs 7 so 5oz off his birth weight. The midwives are all really happy with him but I'm still terrified of something going wrong or happening to him, maybe that's just a part of being a mum. I have no doubt it's the hormones but I'd honestly have 2/3 more if I knew they would be like him, it's just the horrific pregnancy and the thought of HG and GD again for 9 months that puts me off! I've been put on blood pressure tablets, it was 190/94 on our first full day home so the community midwife sent me straight up to EOU, 3 hours apart from my boy on his first full day at home was horrible, thankfully seems to be settling down with the tablets.

@Heyha 'Spritz for bits' was great for my episiotomy. 15 days on and it's pretty much healed.

We've had tongue tie ruled out so still a bit of a mystery why she isn't gaining more/faster. Supply is good and I'm pumping to build it, she latches and feeds well enough

Please excuse me jumping in - my DD’s baby was born this month, & I’ve been randomly dipping in & out following everybody’s experiences.

I wondered if you could get a second opinion on the tongue tie. I’ve heard of several mothers in the last couple of years whose babies struggled to feed satisfactorily, & were told they definitely didn’t have tongue tie, but then eventually somebody else had a look, they decided they actually did, it was dealt with, & breastfeeding magically became a doddle Smile

It seems as if it’s assumed by the professionals to be rarer than it really is - or maybe it can be harder to spot than they realise?

Kimbishop86 · 29/06/2019 22:27

@GiantKitten I was told my DS wasn't tongue tied at the hospital after he was born ( he wasn't feeding so some MWs checked, but advised he wasn't and he was just tired) however I went to a breast feeding specialist this week who advised (and showed me) that in fact he has got a TT. He actually has gained weight very well and I didn't notice any issues with his feeding, but apparently he doesn't latch well and the windyness and dribbling his milk and gulping are all other signs. I guess second opinions are definitely useful!

2countries1bump · 01/07/2019 05:18

@GiantKitten Thanks! We saw the tongue tie specialist as our first midwife didn't think she had it but wanted a second opinion. The specialist midwife was fairly certain tongue tie wasn't an issue. Hmm
Guess we'll have to see how she does at next weight check.

socktastic · 01/07/2019 14:38

What magic tips can people share for getting baby to burp? I pop him on my shoulder and rub and pat his back for ages at a time. I sit him up, prop his head up at the chin and rub and I've had him face down on my legs - which he did not enjoy one bit! Don't like the 4am grunting/farting baby as a result!

allfurcoatnoknickers · 01/07/2019 16:41

@socktastic I can't get mine to burp either! There must be a knack to it, but I don't have it Sad

fee1234 · 01/07/2019 18:14

@socktastic I struggled with it too, a new one I've been trying that seems to work is sitting him on my lap, hand under chin, and rotating his body like a joystick in a circular motion.

KoalasAteMyHomework · 02/07/2019 06:37

Sounds like you are already doing the positions I use. Not all babies need burping though, but if they're struggling with trapped wind then you can use Infacol or Dentinox colic drops from birth. DS2 burps really well and easily but still having troubling with wind so I've had to use it.
Also Google the Tiger in the Tree hold as that's great for babies with colic.
Otherwise I think you just persevere I'm afraid! I think I read somewhere that if they don't burp after ten minutes of winding then there's no point keep trying - which I wish I'd known with DS1 because I used to walk around trying to burp him for at least an hour. However, I can't remember where I read that so may be worth double checking it's true!

Hope this message makes some sense. Very sleep deprived here as I'm sure everyone else is.

Napssavelives · 07/07/2019 20:43

How we all doing? I’ve had a bout of mastitis which isn’t cool and baby now a bit grizzly which I think is antibiotics related. Nipples still not 100%, feeding usindf nipple shields and he’s gaining loads of weight, was 7lb 9 at birth and 8lb 11oz on day 10. Just can’t seem to get the latch right without them and I’m scared of making them really bad again. Will head back up to BF group next week and see what they say.

KoalasAteMyHomework · 08/07/2019 05:51

Hey naps.
Still very sleep deprived here and have a very windy and therefore restless little guy but he's doing well otherwise.
Definitely go back to the BF group for help. If he's gaining weight and feeding well then don't stress about using the shields for now. There are ways where you can actually use nipple shields long term - my friend mentioned it to me before I stopped breastfeeding. But hopefully you get more confident with the latch and get it sorted. Mastitis is horrible so I hope it clears up quickly for you. Sounds like you are doing a super job Flowers

2countries1bump · 09/07/2019 14:56

@Napssavelives we are still predominantly on the nipple shields at week 3. Been to groups to work on latch and weight gain slow- we are persisting!

2countries1bump · 12/07/2019 21:23

Anyone interested in a post-natal thread or has everyone moved to Facebook?

Napssavelives · 13/07/2019 06:47

I would as don’t use Facebook

Bizawit · 13/07/2019 07:09

I would like one!

KoalasAteMyHomework · 13/07/2019 07:20

I was just thinking we should start a thread in the post natal area now, so yes!
