rally hopefully the business will carry you through! I need to do some Big Thinking And Writing today. It's not going well...

DustyDoorframes · 06/02/2019 12:46

I meant munchy! Urgh. Not a good brain day...

MyBreadIsEggy · 06/02/2019 12:55

Definitely working!!
I just ate an absolutely banging pizza-too roll Grin first non-beige food I’ve eaten in weeks and it’s showing no signs of reappearing Grin

Is anyone else teasing themselves looking at baby clothes and nurseries? I know I really shouldn't yet but I can't help myself! There are some awesome bright, unisex stuff on M&S at the minute. I really can't decide whether to find out- DP & DD really want to, but I'm on the fence, as I like really bright colours, and it feels like everyone goes for pink or blue as soon as you know.

TwittleBee · 06/02/2019 14:57

oh yup KnobJockey we have just started painting the nursery after the good scan yesterday! And totally obsessed with baby clothes! I shall be heading to an NCT Nearly new Sale next month after the dating scan i think.

TwittleBee · 06/02/2019 15:00

oh and as for finding out, we shall be booking an early private scan to find out at 16 weeks KnobJockey ! We asked for a variety of clothes from our close family for DS when we found he was a boy as we said we would be wanting to save it all for the next child too, we got some gorgeous unisex stuff . If you ask if your family/friends could maybe get a range of sizes too then you'll find they will probably pick up a nice variety of coloured clothing anyway as the "baby blue" fades out after a few months old in clothing I've found.

We are debating about finding out the sex! We have a girl and a boy already, so would be nice to have a surprise.
But the thing is, I’ve kept all DS’s clothes from 3-6 months upwards, so would only need newborn clothes, and all furniture/slings/car seat etc is all neutral colours. I haven’t kept anything “girly” of dd’s - we got rid when we found out DS was a boy, and we really weren’t expecting to have another baby Blush So I guess it would be sensible to find out the sex so I can do some shopping!

KnobJockey · 06/02/2019 15:19

Nursery painting already, wow! What colours are you going for?

The NCT sale is a good shout, I'll see if there's anything local like that. And like you say, big stuff is generally neutral anyway. It's just the clothes/ bedroom. I'm very much of the 'rainbow' mindset anyway, and dressing a little one in dungarees with a bright cardi, but I can see DP wanting to dress a little lad in a football kit. although he may want to do that with a girl too I suppose!

stroan · 06/02/2019 15:30

Poor second baby will be getting the same nursery decor as DD (Grey, yellow and stars!). I might pop a few new prints on the wall and put her personalised stuff into her new bedroom.

Clothes wise- all our newborn stuff is gender neutral, erring on boys stuff anyway so should be fine. Which doesn't really help with my desire to shop! I feel a bit sad that I won't get to pram shop this time.

TwittleBee · 06/02/2019 15:36

Well we moved house last year and place was in a right tip so everything needed re-doing. We did start the nursery during last pregnancy but then the MMC stopped us and, for me, I just couldn't re-use the nursery colours and theme that was meant for the baby we lost (too many mixed emotions around it all) so felt really sort of positive to get out, choose the paint and start painting.

Attached is a collage of what the room looks like so far (a mess).... We are undecided about whether to paint all 4 walls of the box room that sort of soft minty colour or just 1/2/3 of the walls.

Nursery staying the same here as well. It has one wall of multi coloured stars and the rest is a nice heather colour. Not 100% unisex but we have decorated a new room for DD so can’t be arsed to do another. Will change the nursery once they are old enough to pick for themselves.

We have lots of gender neutral in the first size but less so in the bigger ones. I always bought gender neutral vests and sleepsuits if I was paying! Will be finding out so I can rid ourselves of stuff it’s a boy and take in lots from friends and SIL.
Will find out on nipty at 11/40 but think will keep it in an envelope until 20/40. I don’t like to get too attached until further along. (Perils of being a medic)

MyBreadIsEggy · 06/02/2019 15:40

I live in military housing, so this baby will be getting the exact same shade of shitty magnolia as the rest of the house Hmm You can bet your bottom dollar, the second I decide to be brave and decorate my DH will come skipping home with a posting order and I’ll have to paint the fucker back to magnolia anyway Angry

Megan2018 · 06/02/2019 15:51

No way - not even looking at anything until past 20 weeks - but probably will leave nursery alone for ages anyway.
Our house is brand new, we moved in 5 months ago so still need it to settle before decorating. it is all shiny new though so no pressure to do much.
It will remain DH's studio until baby at least 6 months anyway so no rush - we have 2 Superking master bedrooms with bags of room.

abi2790 · 06/02/2019 16:25

11 weeks on Friday and the sickness has started to die down but the tiredness is ramping up!

I have bought one thing.. a cloth nappy as I had to get rid of a lot of my stash.

Baby will be going in with dd and ds will be moving up to the attic room (ds & dd are currently sharing with bunk beds). Dd is massively obsessed with unicorns so I've promised her a unicorn theme as she's been stuck with lorries and buses that has been in there since ds was a baby. We are in the process of buying this house (have been renting it for 6 years) so don't have the option of moving anywhere bigger!

Those with 2 or more, have you deciding re cars? I'm hoping to avoid buying a new car. I like my ford focus 😣

Easterbuns1 · 06/02/2019 16:27

Were in a 3 bed so new baby will have to share and won't get a nursery. Not sure how it's going to go down specially if it's a boy as it will be such a big age gap but it's only choice! I probably won't pick up much until gender scan but tbh won't go overboard, the older two got so much stuff and I'm more sensible now I know the baby could just go in a drawer and be fine!

Karigan195 · 06/02/2019 16:29

We’re in the middle of pulling the house apart anyway so we’re just adding it to the list. Fortunately my DP is handy too :)

Easterbuns1 · 06/02/2019 16:31

@abi2790 I used cloth with my older two, had them both in cloth together for some time as there's only 17 months between them. Thought about it this time but not sure it's as doable this time when o already seem to have masses of washing!

I'm in denial about my car. DP at work all week and older two away every second weekend so the times all 5 of us will be in the car together are probably minimal, ds can go in front when it's just me and the dc. Might see how we go! Dp keeps joking about twins as he knows I'm not a people cattier person!

Hsunshine · 06/02/2019 16:32

@abi2790 this is my first but I am getting a new car in the next few months. A pram will not fit in my boot.

Does anyone have a ‘little car’ that a good pram fits in?

abi2790 · 06/02/2019 16:34

@hsunshine my focus has been perfect with my pram. Lots of boot space.

TwittleBee · 06/02/2019 16:39

I had a Nissan Micra and actually I did fit my silver cross Pioneer in it (just!) But have since moved to owning a Maxi Cosi Elea pram which folds so perfect for the a small boot Hsunshine and is suitable from newborn too.

abi2790 · 06/02/2019 16:42

@easterbuns1 I have categorically said no people carriers 😂. If we need a bigger one we'll just get an suv or something. Just something that's more likely to fit 3 seats in the back.

MyBreadIsEggy · 06/02/2019 16:46

abi we need a new car that can fit 3 car seats across the back too - we’ve been looking at a Hyundai ix35, which is a bit similar to a Kia Sportage

DustyDoorframes · 06/02/2019 16:53

@abi2790 and @Easterbuns1 hah, well I'm getting round all that by living in central-ish London- so our car is a bus anyway, and we are so over the moon at moving from a 2 bed flat to the heady heights 3 bed maisonette recently that it has it hadn't occurred to either me or DP that we might want more room! DS and DD share anyway, and this little bean will probably be in with us for at least 18 months, based on past form...

We used cloth on the last two but the nappies are in shreds so not sure how I feel about getting a whole new set for The Last Baby.

(PS there is a third timers and more thread in antenatal clubs)

TwittleBee · 06/02/2019 16:56

I was always interested in the cloth aspect, especially more now it has dawned on me how ecologically damaging the nappies must be for landfill etc? But I am so over whelmed at the prospect of how you would deal with a dirty nappy (I know that is so pathetic!) - like what do you do with them? I know my friend bought all the stuff for her DS but it doest seem like she has actually used them... (haven't dared ask why as she was really pro cloth prior birth of DS!)
